This was my second visit to Bentztown (my friend's first), and it did not disappoint. We went specifically for drinks and dessert, and everything was excellent. I tried a peach margarita for the first time -- it was huge and delicious. I did ask for sugar on the rim and received salt instead, but it wasn't a big deal. Still a great drink. My friend ordered a smoked old fashioned and really enjoyed it -- he even mentioned it was better than the ones he had earlier that evening elsewhere. Presentation-wise, it definitely looked impressive too. For dessert, we were initially hoping for the hummingbird cake, but they're revamping the menu and replacing it with a chocolate lava cake. And honestly? No complaints. The lava cake was super rich and absolutely delicious -- so rich I had to order a glass of milk, which I was happy they had available. My friend had the mud pie sundae and crushed it. I had a bite and it was just as good as it looked -- decadent and flavorful. Our server, Dan, was attentive and accommodating from the moment we walked in. We initially sat at a higher table with lower chairs, and since I'm pretty petite, he offered to move us to a better seating option at the bar with higher chairs that matched the tables. When you walk in you see a few tables but then you go up a few steps to the right and they have a few more tables and some couches. Our sever was super sweet and was even able to spilt up our bills for us. We had a party of 15. The food was good. Nothing worth bragging out but it was good. The restaurant is decorated in warm, rich tones, with tables placed close together in the cozy space. The waitstaff is incredibly friendly, accommodating and willing to answer any questions patrons may have. There's something different about that food that was really interesting. Many dishes had a sweet tinge to them that I enjoyed. The french fries have a sweet and salty flavor, and the greens have an outstanding balance of savory, sweet and heat. I ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail, a strawberry mint sipper, and I absolutely LOVED it! I visited randomly to see an old friend who lives in Frederick for lunch and it was pretty empty. This is a huge restaurant in downtown Frederick. The interior looks really new and modern. The waitress was really kind and it was a cold day so she gave us a warm glass of water with lemon in it to start. Honestly, the entire restaurant is pretty average at like a 3.5 but because the burger was so spectacular I'm giving it four stars. The menu is pretty southern, but everything reads really sweet and we got an order of hush puppies and they were definitely not. They were too big and no corn and it was drizzled in this weird maple syrup. The manager was kind and took it off her bill, but then told us to read the menu, but upon looking at the menu, there's nothing that would suggest that it's not a traditional hush puppy. The drinks here are pretty well priced and honestly worth coming just to get the burger. If you see a lot, that does not belong to them there is Paid Street parking, and I found out a couple blocks up the road free street parking. read more

We arrived on Saturday evening with a table reservation near stage. Love music was great, sense was great, and food was yummy. I order the hot chicken sandwich, it was good , a little extra crispy. I've had Nashville hot chicken before and assumed it was drenched in flavor but instead had hot sauce drizzled on it so that was different for me. Was really eager to see the newly opened and renovated Benztown (was formally a different restaurant). The service and layout is so ideal for the area, they also have a very large stage for musicians to perform. The deviled eggs were out of this world! Would highly recommend getting them. I came here to support a friends of a friends or a friends band that was playing in a Saturday night. Parking is a bit indirect, but not that bad. One option is the west parking garage but that costs money to park. The walk is about 6-7 mins, but you do get a glimpse of the canal. It was packed on a Saturday night, which is a good sign. The bar area was packed! It was a bit hard to get drinks and/or water: they were working hard and there were 5-6 behind the bar. The drinks were okay. I didn't think too much about it. It was just something nice to have in hand while I was watching the band play. The live music has their own section which is sectioned off from the restaurant portion which is nice. Usually restaurants just have a corner available for bands by moving a table. Here, it's a whole stage set up just for bands. For diners, if you're close to this area, the music may be too loud. The live music was loud and it can be hard to hear any conversation without shouting. So it's a give or take. If you want both live music and food, the experience of one portion has to give. If you're here just for the live music, it's basically a mini concert at floor level. If you're here for the food during a live event, you're eating at a place with the volume set at max. At all other times, I can see this place being a cool place to hang and drink and talk. It has the vibe of a regular bar - wood, browns, and soft lighting. read more

Came here for an after work happy hour with some coworkers and we had a great time! We parked at the nearby garage and walked - it wasn't a bad walk. The place is super well decorated with different types of seating from standard tables with chairs to high tops to bar seating to comfortable couches and chairs for a more relaxed vibe. The smoked Parmesan fries were very good but the garlic aioli is very garlicky so be aware! The bartender was super cool and friendly with our group. We felt welcomed for sure! Visited Bentztown today for their one-year anniversary. This was only my second time here--the first being last summer--and while the vibe is still top-tier, some things haven't changed much. The location and atmosphere are where Bentztown truly shines--it's the kind of place that feels like it should be thriving. That said, the experience still feels a little rough around the edges. Service was friendly (shoutout to the amazing servers), but a bit disorganized. We saw multiple instances of food being delivered to the wrong tables, which left staff wandering around trying to find the right guests. It didn't ruin the night, but it was noticeable. The food just isn't good and I really wanted it to be. The hush puppies are like the glazed doughnuts. Not a traditional hush puppy. The smoked wings had absolutely no seasoning even though they are advertised as marinated. The smash burger was flavorless was the fries were sprinkled with sugar! The best item was the key lime pie. I had the wonderful pleasure and experience of dining at this wonderful hidden gem in Frederick today. My bestie told me about this cute new spot, and she wanted me to check it out. Of course, I had to go! It is such a great place to meet up for drinks with friends! I can easily see it becoming a local fave or the go to spot for good eats and drinks! It reminded me of the old "6 House" at the Broadway T Station stop in Boston that used be on the corner just a few steps away from Gillette. The food was amazing! We ordered the hushpuppies for apps. Delish! I had the Nashy Hot Chicken Sandwich with the homemade chips! My buddy had the Smoked BBQ Brisket without the bun! For our drinks we had the "The Violet Empress" and Bourbon Cocktail that was out of this world! Our waitress, "Emily" and the General Manager, "Phinny" (I apologize if that's not correct) and Events Manager "Jerry" were awesome, as well. Food review Benztown offers great Southern hospitality and food. We couldn't be happier to find this place while wandering around Historic Frederick. Food wise: Benztown's fried green tomatoes have a perfect balance of crispiness on the outside which comes from the light batter and tenderness on the inside from the tomatoes. The tomatoes themselves are slightly firm and tangy, not mushy, with the tartness complementing the crunchy exterior. Topped with pickled vegetable relish and a ranch sauce, these fried green tomatoes are perfect for a starter dish which goes real well with a lager. The Southern 5-egg omelette with smoked beef brisket, smoked mozzarella cheese, bell peppers, and onions is rich, smoky, and savory. The omelette is soft and fluffy which acts as a mild base that lets the other ingredients shine. The smoked beef brisket brings a deep, robust smokiness with slightly chewy bites of meat. The smoked mozzarella adds creaminess and enhances the smoky profile. Bell peppers and onions add sweetness to the whole dish. This omelette definitely creates a hearty, indulgent dish with layers of smokiness, sweetness, and savory richness. The only thing that could make this dish better would be make the barbecue sauce more tangy and less sweet. The 2 tender biscuits have a buttery flavor that complements the creamy and well-seasoned gravy which had a richness from the mushrooms. The vibes were vibing at Bentztown! First off, the ambience is such a cute vibe! There's plenty of bar seating and regular seating. It was actually roomier than I had anticipated it would be. I also like the garage door next to the entrance that can be opened when the weather is nice, which adds even more to the space. There is even a stage area for live bands. We came on a Saturday and there actually was a band playing! It added a nice touch, but definitely made it a little hard for conversation. Luckily they don't start until 9pm. My husband and I sampled a few cocktails and draft beers which they have a nice selection of both. I thoroughly enjoyed my drinks (Georgia on my Mind and Hibiscus Blossom). SO good. I'd say the Hibiscus Blossom was my favorite. My husband tried their Smoked Old Fashioned, which he loved so much he ordered 2! I tried a sip and thought it was definitely one of the better ones I've tried. For dinner we got the Smoked Ribeye entree (cooked medium) and the BBQ Brisket entree. They were both delicious, tender, and perfectly cooked. I will say that the mac and cheese that came with the BBQ Brisket was just O-K. The salad that comes with the Smoked Ribeye was a little bitter and I wasn't a fan of the dressing, but overall enjoyed the meal. Our kids got tenders/fries and the open faced BBQ Brisket sandwich/fries. They both really enjoyed their meals as well! The service was great, even for it being a busy night. So I was super excited to try Bentztown however it was a let down. The location and ambiance makes you feel like you've left Frederick. My boyfriend argued DC while I argued Charleston. lol. I had really been looking forward to trying their twist on a Nashville hot chicken sandwich with the expectation of a good kick. It didn't quite do that for me/didn't have the "Nashville Hot" flavor. The spice wasn't quite there and while the Texas toast was tasty, it was almost too much fat content for an already fried item with an aioli on it. The house made relish was yummy however, I can say with confidence that it gave me food poisoning from the result when I returned home. My boyfriend ordered the sticky chickie biscuit fried however, was not a fan of the sticky sauce being drizzled all over the biscuit and couldn't quite enjoy the biscuit and actually took half of it off. I think the drizzle being directly on the chicken would serve the same purpose. We ordered sides of ranch for our fries. The waitress explained it was delicious. The ranch is house made and garlic and dill forward, and really made up for some of the less redeemable parts of our meal. Our favorite item was the hush puppies! I couldn't have the sauce bc I'm allergic to honey however, the hush puppies are super big and very good! We got the sauce and the butter on the side. My one criticism would be the flavor in the butter wasn't quite strong enough to add any flavor dimension while I couldn't have the honey. I asked if any good alternatives sauces in house would be a good substitute for my allergy but none came to mind unfortunately. Overall, we won't be back for food. But we would love to come back for cocktails and definitely come back for the awesome service. Our waitress was so sweet, bubbly, and was great about checking on us. The bar is huge and takes up two sides of the restaurant. We had a reservation however it seemed like we wouldn't have had to wait. I have been to Bentztown as a restaurant goer and as a performing musician so this is going to be a split review. I went for dinner and drinks several times and each time the staff was very kind and accommodating. The service was fast and the food was fantastic! Pricing was fair for what I ordered. As a musician, load in for equipment was not bad (only 3 lil stairs). The staff was very accommodating for the bands requests. The sound in there is impressive for being a corner stage, but plenty of room for audience and dancing! Green room could definitely use some work, it's definitely just a spare storage space that the staff was actively using throughout the night and it was VERY hot in there. Besides the greenroom (or lack there of) I have no complaints, this place rocks! read more

My husband and I have been here a few times and we are enjoying this restaurant. The food is unique, southern comfort food with plenty of flavor and spice. They have a really nice whiskey selection and fun cocktails to try at brunch. The service has been great each time, and I really love it when they have the doors wide open for a nice breeze. The last time we went, they had live music and it was great! We like this place and recommend you give it a try. We arrived for dinner and was not crowded for a Wednesday night. My BF and cousin got a cup of chili, they said it was ok but a small cup. Our cocktails were really good. Tried the fried green tomatoes. I was not impressed the batter hardly there and were brought out on the cold side, definitely sitting for a while in the kitchen. My cousin did a side Caesar salad which she said was drenched in dressing and too many rinds from the romaine lettuce. I got the brisket sandwich, it was good but again lukewarm.
