I have had a lot of Thai in PA, this place might be better than all of the places up this way. The edamame has great flavor and was priced well. It came with a ton! I got the Panang Curry with chicken. It came with Jasmine Rice and I ordered a side of the drunken noodles (just the noodles) to add into the curry sauce. This curry sauce was absolutely incredible. I could eat this for every meal. The noodles were made to perfection. 10/10 recommend. The place we lit well, smaller seating for the building. I would definitely recommend a reservation. I went with a group of 5, they took great care of our table! The staff and waitress were top notch, I don't think there was a moment I didn't have my cup filled with water! read more

Sumittra Thai Cuisine - Panang Curry - Thai Near Me - Frederick, Maryland

Sumittra is hands down the best Thai restaurant in Frederick. I usually do carry-out, but this time I treated my mom to dinner while we were downtown. I ordered the lychee martini. My mom had the seasonal pumpkin curry with shrimp and I went with my usual drunken noodles with shrimp. The food never disappoints, it came out hot every bite was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. Truly one of my favorite spots in the area! read more

Well, I'm in town again so I have to come here. Ordered exactly the same dish, hence no new photos. Staff is still adorable and friendly. I love the small, cozy feel of this place. Don't worry, I'll be back again... and again. read more

Delic! So flavorful. The tofu Panang curry is a fav. I always get the tofu pad Thai. They are very good about knowing what is Vegan and how to modify if needed. Just remove the egg for pad Thai. read more

We were very happy with our meal. The service, food, and ambience were all lovely. What we got: Tom Kha - 4* the menu said it was spicy but I disagree. It was a decent version of Tom Kha. Not the best I've ever had (I have a very high bar here) but definitely up there! Yellow Curry - 4* spicier than I expected but I really enjoyed it. Crispy Pork Fried Rice - 5* this one was fantastic! The fried rice on it's own was good but the crispy pork was by far the highlight of the meal and really made the whole thing phenomenal. read more

Just passing thru town and came across this wonderful Thai spot in downtown Frederick. I'm traveling and miss a home cooked meal. Nothing but goodness to report, I had a great Thai Iced Tea as well as an order of Pad Thai with fresh shrimp. I loved the service and the cozy restaurant. read more

We definitely like Sumittra, having visited twice now. We came here yesterday afternoon after a trip to nearby Emporium Antiques. 4.49 stars, oh-so-close to five stars. Service both times has been warm, friendly and responsive. Mid-afternoon on a Sunday, the restaurant was not crowded. Along with an $8 glass of red wine, JP enjoyed the Woon Sen. He ordered this dish because he likes the stir-fried cellophane noodles, onions, mushroom, celery, carrot and egg in the dish. I ordered the Pad Thai, my go-to Thai dish. Pad Thai's signature flavor comes from tamarind sauce. Today I picked pork as my meat. Sumittra is very generous with the quantity of pork they add to the dish. It was delicious, except perhaps a bit on the sweet side (though acknowledging that sweetness is a major component of Thai cuisine). read more

I feel that everyone needs to go here. The whole world will try this and love it. Thank you for every thing and will be back. Great service and I loved the lighting. Best spicy and boba in town. Goodnight everyone it's so good! (drunken beef) Cheers read more

Well let me say that the food was pretty good and the waitress did a fantastic job. The soup was very spicy and did not like the flavor and I sent it back for the lemongrass soup The owner was a bit rude when we were making a reservation and acted it was a big deal. When we arrived no one was there. Very insistent that we had to do it on one ticket. Like everything in Frederick a bit over priced. read more

Came for pickup to feed 5 adults and 2 kids that nibble - came out to about $88 dollars or so Good sized portions. I feel like in the restaurant the portions are even bigger, from what I saw on the plates. But I feel content No images of the food but we got green curry, drunken noodle with squad, vegetable mix and vegetable puffs (these were very very good, only 2 to an order) Staff was very nice and it was busy on Sunday evening. Decor is fun and great to look at. Real good use of their space read more

I guess I didn't read the website well enough because it is essentially just a Takeaway place, which is OK. I have to say, that of all the places that I've eaten Pad Thai, at best, it was average. They gave you a lot of food! read more

I've dined at Sumittra Thai Cuisine several times and always enjoyed the food and the ambiance. My husband and I visited on New Year's Eve. When we called to make our reservation, we were instructed to arrive on time because they could only hold our table for 10 minutes. That was fair since it was a busy night. We arrived early and were seated quickly. Our waitress greeted us with water and a huge smile on her face. She really went out of her way to make us feel special. Our food was incredibly delicious! The Peking Duck Rolls were out of this world, and the Thai Fried Rice is a favorite. My husband ordered a Thai iced tea, which was sweet and creamy. Even though the restaurant had a steady stream of customers, it didn't seem overly crowded or loud. The dining area is small and could quickly become cramped, but that was not the case. After requesting takeout boxes for our food, our waitress came to the table and personally boxed up our food. She was delightful. Overall, I enjoyed my meal at Sumittra and can't wait to return. read more

BEST SERVICE EVER!!!! I've never been to a restaurant where they work so well together taking care of the tables equally. It made everything so much easier, removing plates right away, getting the check, no need to wait for one designated server to finally make their way to your table. The food - DELICIOUS!!! The coconut soup - get it. It's amazing! The tofu was delicious in the curry dish. I wish this place was in New York! What an adorable little place with clean bathrooms. read more

I've tried about five different local Thai places near me and this one lands in the middle - based on what I ordered. I will come back and try other dishes. Dish 1: Volcano Shrimp - it's fried to perfection and the sauce is sticky- spicey delish. However, it's too much fried to eat as your main course. I think this would be great if the mixed sautéed shrimp in the same sauce and gave like 3 of the fried for the crunch. Or..order it as an app to share at the table. Dish 3: A Pad Thai dish- but it was called something else and had shrimp and chicken. The chicken was overcooked and not enjoyable. The noodles were very similar to a drunken noodle dish. read more

Solid five star dining experience in downtown Frederick, MD! If you are in to Thai cuisine, then look no more. Delicious, classic Thai is here. Stopped in with my daughter and husband on a whim. I am so glad we did. We had the Larb Gai and fried spring rolls to start, along with the dumplings. My only complaint is that it all disappeared so quickly! For dinner my husband had the drunken noodles and absolutely devoured them! I managed to wrangle one bite and wow. They were perfect. My daughter and I each had the Thai Fried Rice. I usually order fairly hot but, tonight i decided on a mild, so that i could actually taste the food. Honestly, it just doesn't get any better!! The portion was huge, so I was able to take about 1/2 home. I don't know how it's possible, but It tasted even better the next day! The waitstaff were all very pleasant and attentive. We never had to ask for anything. We loved the intimate lighting and table spacing. It was nice to be able to hear each other during dinner. In a nutshell, if you are near this restaurant, and looking for a great experience, walk on in! The food is fabulous read more

Service is super friendly and the food is delicious with very reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.

Delicious food. I got the salmon and veggies in a curry sauce. Would definitely go back.

Everything was fresh and absolutely delicious. Service was efficient and pleasant. Atmosphere was well appointed.

Great food, hole in the wall place. Loved the overall service. Their Tom kha soup was very yummy. Green curry was spicy and tasty.

Great food and service. So flavorful and the portions are large even for the lunch menu. We ordered the crispy chicken rolls, pork fried rice and the drunken noodles. I didn't care for the crispy chicken rolls but I heard the spring rolls are fantastic. The drunken noodles were so good and perfectly spicy! Maybe a little too hot for some by if you like spicy , I recommend! Sangria was good and the Thai beer was perfect! read more

I was there last Saturday with a party of 9 for lunch. Food was great and the place was packed but a nice friendly ambiance. Only issue was communication with the waitress. As a result of her not repeating the order back or checking if everyone got their food, we had two people without entrees for a long time. I enjoyed takeout from here for the first time recently! The ordering processes online was seamless and so was pick up. I got the yellow curry and Tom Kha Soup. The curry was a light flavor, but it's still very good. And the soup was delicious, being coconut milk based it had a nice balance of flavors. Everything was very mild and its spice level but that's what I like and I'm sure you could ask for added heat! Having recently come back from Thailand, I was satisfied to find Sumittra! I will definitely have to come back and eat-in next time. read more

Been here several times, as well as the one in Charles Town (WV). Unlike Chinese, where most dishes are 'Americanized,' a great Thai restaurant like Sumittra features lots of authentic chow. The Pad Thai is the real thing, and the best dish is the Panang Curry shrimp. Nice and spicy. And if it isn't 'hot' enough, they'll bring a small tray with Thai chili oil and ground, powdered Thai chili. Service always great, and they'll bring samples to try if possible. Comfortable and fairly quiet; a good place for a romantic dinner. Full liquor bar. Great cocktails. And best of all; real, authentic Thai dishes. Can't get better than that. OH! Make sure you try the Thai iced tea. One sip and you're hooked. One glass just isn't enough. read more

Some of the best Thai food I've ever had! The spicy calamari was unique because they included grilled veggies (peppers, onions, etc.) which added to the texture and flavor. I had my usual Pad See Ew and the sauce was perfect! read more

Great food!! Also great decor and energetic atmosphere! Fantastic Thai Iced Tea. So is the Pad Thai, Red Curry, Drunken noodles and gyoza. They apparently don't offer the spice tray anymore and just serve it in plastic containers, but they don't charge extra if you want more. The service has declined a bit since a few years ago, but still good. read more

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. The fake 4 1/2 reviews for this place brought me here, but it isn't good. Those reviewers are frauds, this place is bad food personified. Big fan of Pad Thai and this was the worst in memory. It was way too sweet. The frozen chicken was over cooked and tough like tree bark. The noodles were likewise overcooked. The overall taste was like peanut butter with sugar. Tina tried to charge for condiments like red pepper flakes and fish sauce, not cool Tina. Kittiwat Thai is better for local Thai cuisine. read more

Such delicious Thai food! They accommodated our large group of 12. The service was fast and friendly, and our food came out quickly. My husband ordered the beef pad Thai and I ordered the seasonal Pumpkin Curry with vegetables. It was so delicious. The pumpkins flavor with the subtle coconut and heat was a beautiful combination. We sampled many other dishes at our table. The panang curry was some of the best I've ever had. The steak salad was full of acidity and flavor. My husband loved his pad Thai, it was definitely on the sweet side. The location was convenient to the downtown public parking. The street was lined with fun shops to look in. It's such a great area, quaint and fun to visit. The restaurant was so beautiful inside. If highly recommend this for fantastic Thai cuisine. read more

Worst experience ever in a restaurant. Hostess is extremely rude. She refused to take my reservation saying they don't do reservations. When I said many tables are empty and more than the people on the waitlist the hostess said she had other reservations because those people called in advance. CONTRADICTING.... I finally placed an order for takeout while waiting for our table. When I went to pick and pay for my takeout the restaurant was empty and I asked if I can now dine in and enjoy my food instead of driving 30-40 min home and eating it cold. The hostess asked HOW many people are eating and when I said 1, she said I am not sure I will have to ask my manager. At this time there were more than four tables with customers busy eating. After coming on yelp I realized that I am not the only one who had a bad customer experience. WILL NEVER dine in again. Food was too oil and average. I had ordered drunken noodle. read more
