Skipping ahead to July 2023 in scrapbook series is Asian Cafe. I went to Spinners Arcade, which was walking distance to here. This was an unlimited arcade, which I went to 3 times in March 2023, July 2023, & January 2024. They didn't have food here, but you could bring food from area businesses. Each of those times I ate something different for dinner. I went again with that same games Meetup group in March 2026 on their moved location on Golden Mile, west side of Frederick. A large group of us walked the short distance up to Asian Cafe. We kind of overwhelmed them, but they were cordial and tried to get the orders in a timely manner. This is more of a small to go place, which was fine as we took back to the arcade. Food was solid. LOVE this place. Used to live in the area and now back for a visit. Just as good as before. They have so many vegan meat options. Get the Vegan duck! It's to die for the sauce is so good. Beef and broccoli is also really good. They're very fast ordering over the phone. There's not really much room to eat inside. It's more a takeout place. read more

Order here frequently for years, lady/owner who runs the counter is nice and I've never had to wait long for my order,. Typical things that are good, to me anyway, are crispy beef, fried wontons, cashew chicken, generals chicken and sesame shrimp. Fair prices, etc. read more

This little place produces some very food food with fresh ingredients. My husband loves their fried rice. I've had several noodle dishes (lo meón, soba) and all have been good and the vegetables tasted very fresh and not over cooked. This is a small restaurant with a few tables mainly for carry out. Total hole in the wall/hidden gem. I called in an order at 7:30 on a Thursday, and it was ready in about 10 minutes. We ordered the hot and sour soup, kung pao shrimp, and beef + broccoli. Everything was hot and delicious. The vegetables were especially fresh! Also they gave a generous amount of large, juicy shrimp. Normally places skimp on the shrimp, but not here. So normally I would have given them 4 stars because my go to for Chinese food is kind of based off an establishments Beef and Broccoli and while theirs wasn't the greatest the rest of their food was delicious. I also got the orange chicken, egg rolls, and crispy beef. The orange chicken was flavorful and crispy. The beef was also crispy and had great flavors and while the egg rolls weren't anything special they were still very delicious. I'm ordering again tonight. Convenient little Chinese place along east street! They've been quick on the orders and haven't messed them up. Staffs fast and friendly. The food is good. I took a couple photos of what I got this round! I think the crispy beef maybe is a little too sweet/runny, and needs more crispy-ness to it. It was OK! Simply Asia in Thurmont makes it better in my opinion! Would love it if they could make it like Simply Asia in Thurmont (HINT HINT). :-) The Broccoli and Chicken was pretty good, and I love that the Broccoli taste FRESH. Likely you would dismiss this place based on the looks of the building, and there is no space or tables to eat there, however the food was the best Chinese food we have ordered since moving to Maryland over a year ago. Any time my fiancé and I decide on chinese for dinner, Asian Cafe is our top pick. He orders their General Tso chicken and loves it! The outside breading remains crisp and not drowned in the sauce. I'm also a big lover of their chicken pad thai; it's actually my favorite thing to order there. It's got a great balance of those traditional thai flavors. I've had their hot and sour soup as well as their crab ragoons and both are impressive to me. Their dipping sauce for the ragoons lended a fruity sweetness. It's family owned, and they're very nice people. The owner practically remembers our order and always makes it a point to ask us if we'd like our thai tea. Just very nice that she remembers! All in all, great people and great food for a good price. They are carry out and delivery only but we always make the trip for good food. read more

I have always said, you can tell a Chinese restaurant that makes a superior Jiaozi will have amazing food. The dumplings were amazing. I tried the General Tso Chicken and it was great. Moved to Maryland a couple years ago and had a heck of a time finding a good Asian restaurant. Passed this place one day and gave it a try. BEST Asian around Frederick. My go-to's are General Tso (crispy white meat), Pad Thai (nicely flavored sauce) and chicken fried rice (large pieces of chicken throughout). Always consistent quality and quantity. Buyer beware! I tried this place for the first time the night before a major trip...BIG MISTAKE. I ordered the vegetable lo mein, wonton soup, egg rolls, and Szechuan chicken. The quality and taste of the food was average at best, but even more unfortunately, I woke up in the early morning hours with severe stomach illness. Needless to say I will not be returning to the Asian Cafe, nor do I recommend it to others. There are much better Asian restaurants to visit in Frederick. To put this review in perspective, mine and many of my friends favorite Chinese places is far east in Bethesda, and I tend to only eat beef Szechuan, so I'm not great for A better rounded review. The second best place for beef Szechuan is one that I've had in the area is in Clarksburg called the Red bowl. I tried several places around the Frederick area and it just wasn't very good at all. I recently tried modern Asian on the golden mile, and they use plum sauce, and the taste was pretty good, although I didn't appreciate the thick slabs of meat and vegetables although I will say they're very generous portions. I'll be going back there. As for Asian Café this was my first time there. Their beef Szechuan is the shredded beef that I prefer, and the vegetables are thinner and better cooked. So it's a close tie only because this place uses brown sauce instead of plum sauce or if they use plum sauce they use very little of it. And as one of the reviewer mentioned they are a little light on their meat. That being said, I'm likely to go here when I need Chinese, and I'm betting that you might find a good selection for yourself here. I'm considering picking up some plum sauce and just mix it in there and it might just give it enough taste i prefer, in which case it'll easily beat out modern Asian for my taste. Perhaps they'll consider as other people mentioned - adding a little more meat to their meals would make it more satisfying as well. Lastly I'll mention if you ever go to Far East be prepared to almost pay 50% as much as any of the places I've mentioned here as their beef Szechuan is over 20 bucks at Far East. The red bowl, modern Asia, and Asian Café this place is somewhere between 13 and $15. Modern Asian as far as the amount they give you probably is the best value. read more

Best in Frederick! Real Brown Fried Rice not that yellow junk and it was real good! General Tso is excellent crispy, good sauce but could have been a bit more spicier. Beef Lo Mein was also excellent and so was the Crab Rangoon. This will be my place unless someone convinces me there is better that I haven't tried. read more

After the fire damaged China Garden, we tried many Chinese restaurants in the area and were pleasantly surprised to find the Asian Cafe! It is small, never crowded that we have witnessed, but service and quality of food has been terrific! I saw the good reviews, so I got some takeout tonight. I had Kung Pao chicken, she had Mu Shu chicken. Sometimes, in a lot of Chinese restaurants, these dishes can be goopy, overly sauced, and just not very well done. Here, our dishes were well prepared - very colorful and delicious. The restaurant is bright and clean, and the staff friendly. Definitely hitting the spot on a weeknight when we didn't feel like cooking. We'll definitely be back. read more
