Walked into a warm welcome, real neighborhood bard feel to the place which is not a bad thing at all. Order the grilled oysters both garlic parm and jalapeno. this tends to be one of the places downtown Frederick that a lot of people frequent. Depending on what you're looking for it's decent bar space and the food is not bad for bar food. 1+ is being able to get a whole chicken wings at a decent price and having flavor options. Bartender was very kind. It was a busy bar and she was able to take care of everyone in a timely manner and seem to be very familiar with different drink options and even offered suggestions. read more

Food was great. I had oysters and the chicken tenders. Homemade mignonette was super delish. A very busy Saturday night so it took a sec for drinks, no problem tho. The drinks were poured nicely and me and my group had a great time. No soap in the men's room, I told a staff member and they seemed they couldn't care less, still no soap an hour later. With this many people packed in, giving everyone access to soap seems pretty important. But still a fun place to visit if you don't mind a packed college-bar vibe on the weekends, and if you love oysters they do them right. read more

Sunday, while on Tony's Birthday Trip, We stoppedin Frederick, MD for lunch. We went down near the canal way to the Shuckn Shak Oyster Bar. I was very excited. I was trying to show him we can have good seafood and not be in Florida. We took a seat midway through the narrow restaurant. Tony ordered PBR in a can and I went with Unsweetened Tea With lemon & lime. I ordered a half dozen Baked Oysters with Jalapeño & Cheese. It said Char-Broiled but it tasted more baked. They were very good! Tony ordered a Steak Burger Medium Rare with Tomato Lettuce & Onion, topped with cheese & a Garlic Sauce with fries & Cole Slaw. I went with the LOW Country Boil with Jumbo Shrimp, Potatoes, Corn on the Cob & Sausage slices in Old Bay Seasoning with side of Cole Slaw. No room for dessert! Highly recommend and will definitely go back if we are ever playing around that area again!!! read more

OK, I just have to say I had the most fabulous experience at the shucking shack oyster bar! The variety of oysters were all delicious, the local oysters ludicrously tasty! The blackened shrimp poutine was divine as well. I really appreciate that I could buy one oyster at a time as opposed to half a dozen as I wanted to try a variety of different oysters, ended up buying a dozen anyway because they're just that incredibly delectable. Our waitress Tiffany was absolutely wonderful, service all around top-notch! Fantastic ambience, I am talking high-quality food here folks... so good in fact, I would be more than happy to scrub the kitchen floor in exchange for a few local oysters and some more of that poutine! read more

Shuckin' Shack isn't typically on my regular rotation, mostly due to its small size, how quickly it gets packed, and the historically underwhelming service. In past visits, the staff has rarely come across as welcoming, and unfortunately, this visit was no different. I stopped in just for drinks this time, and to their credit, the crush menu is pretty extensive. The drinks tasted as expected--nothing groundbreaking, but they get the job done, and the pricing is fair. That said, the staff still seemed less than enthusiastic to be there, which continues to be a recurring theme. There also appears to be a pattern of catering more to their regulars, while new faces feel more like an afterthought. If you're looking for a quick drink and don't mind squeezing into a tight space, it's fine. But if you're expecting warm service or an above-average experience, there are better options nearby. read more

Really nice beer selection, a blackboard with a lot of crush drink options (as befits a proper seafood shack in Maryland), and a really nice menu. To start I ordered nachos for the table (ok, not great) and oysters on the half shell for me. Oysters (or as we say in Bawlmer "ersters") were sourced from Virginia waters. They were sweet with a little briny taste, and were served with three sauces: mignonette, ketchup, and an interesting horseradish/chopped red pepper mix. For dinner SU had an oyster po' boy and I went with the fried oyster plate. Fried oysters and cole slaw were really good but fries were pretty blah - they needed to be saltedwhen hot from the fryer, and some malt vinegar would have been great. A BLT at a seafood restaurant? Yes please. The bacon was in abundance and crispy, the bread was toasted and buttered and layered with a decent amount of mayo, the tomato was fresh as well. The fries were crispy hot and seasoned. The coleslaw was dry though, it def could've used more sauce but it was fine as a side. I visited for Happy hour (M-F 3-7), they don't have any food deals but have pretty good drink deals. Also, they offer a dollar oyster, so I got a dozen. Oysters were big and fresh. I also got Char grilled oysters ($1.5 for HH) it was delicious. They have a decent selection of draft beer. The restaurant is always packed with regulars and quite loud environment, but enjoyable. I haven't tried any food other than oysters but wings smelled so good, so I'm going to visit next time for wings! read more

I came here for brunch and sat outside! While brunch isn't their main business here, we will enjoyed it! My friend got the crab cake Benny and I got huevos rancheros nachos. It was fairly quiet in the restaurant with plenty of places to sit and we chose to sit outside in their side patio. I also tried the mimosa flight! The nachos weren't my favorite because it was a little too greasy for breakfast IMO but the crake cake Benedict was flavorful and a good size portion. I'll have to come back for happy hour or dinner. Went to check this place out for the AFC Championship game after posting a Facebook post in a local community group asking for the best spot to watch the game with audio playing through the speakers and this place was the most mentioned. It's located downtown Frederick so parking may be challenging but there is a parking garage located right off the alley that's a few feet left of the bar/restaurant. The decor was unpretentious and supported all of the local sports teams, multiple renditions of the Maryland flag, and coastal/seafood themed props - as a Maryland I love it! It's a little dive-y but it had a strong sense of community. The bartender took a longer than I appreciated to come get my drink order considering I had already dropped my Wife off and she had already grabbed two seats at the bar and ordered herself a drink from said bartender. However, she finally did take my order she tended to warm up and check-in on us throughout our stay as one would expect. They had a great beer selection and they had some great specials ($1 wings, $1.50 baked oysters, and $5 crushes). We ordered the wings and the seafood sampler (calamari, shrimp, and cold crab dip). The best thing was the crab dip but most of the other starters on the menu did seem fried. I can't speak on the raw oysters (I plan on trying them next time) but I probably wouldn't come here necessarily exclusively for the food. However, it's a great place to have a few drinks and watch the game in a fun atmosphere!! read more

Great little bar and restaurant specializing in oysters and shellfish. We just stopped in for a beer and an appetizer. The bartender was working the bar and all the tables but she was on it. She greeted us when we sat down and she took our order within minutes. We decided on a couple of beers and Shrimp Nachos. The shrimp were grilled perfectly and the nachos were topped with queso and was just the bite to eat we wanted. This place is popular and busy. If it's too full, just come back. Second time in a week. Im obsessed w crushes so the first time was for some drinks. They do orange crushes right! Tonight we went for some crushes and seafood. I really debated on giving this place a five. I will come back again and edit after a few visits. I love the chill atmosphere with friendly staff. How have i not gone here before? Swung by with a friend and went smack middle in the afternoon! We were able to share a table with two gentlemen and just by seeing their dish i knew what i wanted. We did a dozen round of their raw oysters forgot the name but they were slightly salty and huge. So fresh and delicious! Then two orders of those shark bite shrimps i believe their happy hour special the breading was amazing on it but that sauce.... WOW! Then we had a lobster roll each the lobster itself tasted fresh and so flavorful. I won't lie it was kind of small compared to others i've had but it was also a small place for fredrick MD. We ordered two michelada does the first time needless to say i will be back for more food! If you haven't tried it please swing by!
