Yesterday was busy, and neither Spousal Unit or I wanted to cook. We decided to order delivery from Modern Asia; good choice! SU ordered Kung Pao Shrimp, her "go-to" and every Asian restaurant, and compares each one to China Garden's version. Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it! read more

We were in a mood for Chinese food tonight and decided on Modern Asia due to the Yelp ratings. Carry out instead of dining in. We ordered 8 items: yum yum shrimp, Asia wings hot, pork & shrimp Singapore noodle, pork fried rice, sweet & sour pork, General Tso's Chicken spicy, and Hunan beef spicy. Food overall is good. However, some of the items we ordered are better eaten at the restaurant. Yum yum shrimp got soggy after the 10 minute drive home. The spicy dishes we ordered were not as spicy as we would like. Maybe we just have a higher tolerance of spiciness. Next time we will dine in and request for more heat for the meals. read more

Wonton soup has nice thin dough for wonton, but the filling is average and the broth is bland. My shrimp dish was ok, but the sweet and sticky sauce was mostly "sweet and sticky" -- yet it was definitely better than average! We also had Sichuan Beef and Kung Pao Chicken -- the beef was "ok", nothing special. The chicken was pretty darn good! Summer rolls were very good, they are a favorite dish of mine. And while everyone else is raising prices - they continue to dish up giant portions at a great price point. We had lunch today for two, under $35! We really liked Modern Asia. We had lunch there recently as a couple, after hearing about it from online acquaintances for months. The things we liked most about Modern Asia were maybe the least "modern" aspects: the friendliness, the decor, and the value for money. They have a *very* long list of lunch options, most in the $10-15 range including soup, appetizer, and fried rice. We got the General Tso's shrimp and the Panang Curry with Chicken, both very good. But the servings were ENORMOUS, not what I expected off the lunch specials menu. I enjoyed my curry very much, over about 2-1/2 meals after I took the uneaten portion home. I got the spring roll appetizer, fresh and fried lightly, and a very good hot & sour soup. My bride enjoyed her egg drop soup and crab rangoons. The place got pretty busy as Friday lunch hour progressed, but we continued to receive attentive and cheerful service. We enjoyed what we perceived as "throwback" ambience, with little fountains, lanterns, and tons of decorative kitsch all around the sizeable dining room. Kids: this is the way Chinese restaurants used to look, before they became strictly carryout businesses with no tables and cases of soda piled in the dining room. Even the rest rooms were modern and spotless. This is all to compliment Modern Asia's style. For the ton of food and fun experience, we paid $23.00 before tip for two people. Not sure how they do it. So we'll be back soon to try more of that long menu. read more

We were shopping in the area and decided to place an order for pick up to take home. This time, we used their online ordering system. The order was accepted and I received a confirmation number. However, I never received an e-mail confirmation. We drove over and was there about 10 minutes later. Still no confirmation number, so I went inside assuming the order never went through. I spoke to the lady at the counter and she said sometimes the orders do not go through. So I ordered everything again and then paid. It was then, that I realized that the online ordering is never going to work. The prices online are significantly lower than their current menu prices. My online order total was $35. Ordering the same items in the restaurant was $47. So the point of this, if you are reading is, the prices you see online are not the current prices and unless/until those prices get updated, I cannot imagine their online orders will work. As for our food, it was very good as always. It is one of the better Chinese take-outs style food we have found and the portions are generous. The service for take-out was about 10 minutes and there is a bench to sit and wait while I waited for our order. Although we did not dine inside, the restaurant was full and lots of people were coming and going on a Saturday evening. read more

This is my FAVORITE Asian restaurant anywhere. The service and food is impeccable. The portions are very generous and made with fresh, wholesome ingredients. The menu is filled with lots of varied choices, including Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai dishes. And to top it all off, the cost of this delicious food is VERY reasonable. Today, for lunch, I ordered Mongolian Beef, accompanied by hot and sour soup, which was perfectly seasoned and balanced, a spring roll, and rice. There's a reason why this place has a line for takeout AND seating on a rainy Wednesday night. Food is good, menu is extensive, staff is knowable, they're good at understanding things like gluten free and other allergies. Portions are great too. I bought from this location a mango fruit smoothie & half way the smoothie I start to notice little plastic trash. So I thought maybe my straw is broken.. nope straw is perfectly fine. I did another sip and almost choke on a plastic wrap the one shown on the picture. This is incredibly a safety hazard. Imagine a child is sipping on this and chokes on this piece of plastic wrap. The portions are HUGE. You will not be hungry when you dine here. It's probably one of the better places in Frederick in terms of Asian food. You really can't go wrong with anything you order there. The relaxing Asian music is great for ambiance. Honestly I'm tired of other places using pop music when I eat so the music was a nice change of pace. I've been multiple times and I will say the chicken and broccoli was not that amazing when I went but when I went again and got general tso's chicken it was amazing. The server was very kind. Our very first visit was today after craving Asian/Chinese food for a few weeks and seeing the many positive comments about this restaurant on Yelp. There are so many things on the menu, which is a very good thing (I like a,large selection), but always makes it difficult to choose the offering that you think will be best. To be conservative, my wife and I decided to share the Triple Delight. I also ordered a Summer roll, just to try, after our waitress informed us shrimp and beef are in the roll. Our meal came with 2 Spring rolls and a bowl of egg drop soup. Everything tasted wonderful. The beef and chicken strips in the Triple Delight were the most tender, tasty, and moist I've ever had. Service was excellent, portion sizes were adequate. Prices were reasonable. A very good experience. Please replace the cloth throw cushions used with booth seating. Not sure how clean they might be. Super polite and patient with me,while it was busy on a Friday night. I had just got off work and my food was right there ready for me right when I came in despite the businesses. This review is based off of my to go experience from a someone who does not live in Frederick MD. My friends that recently bought a house in Fred tell me that they go to this Asian carry out all the time. And what got me is that they said "all the time" . I'm half Chinese and it's hard finding an authentic Asian restaurant that you know is good! I went to visit them one day and decided to order some food to go because they hyped this place up. Just going inside? This place looked instagramable. The aesthetics were gorgeous! I mean, you can actually take someone out here, and it was a cute scene. I ordered the basics. Orange chicken and pad Thai. Orders you can mess up. And they were good! If you go during lunch you can get a small discount too. My friends go here once a week and they said everything is fresh. I definitely agree with that statement. The customer service was great too! The staff were extremely friendly. The BEST Asian Restaurant - HANDS DOWN!! My sister introduced my family to this GEM when we moved to Frederick a year ago. We are regulars now :-). All of the staff is extremely friendly and the owner comes out and speaks to his guests while they are eating! That alone is a PLUS. My husband, daughter and I can't say enough about this place. MY favorites are the Egg Drop Soup, Summer Roll, Shrimp Toast, and the Crispy Honey Shrimp. Oh, and my Pina Colada. We meet my sister and my nephew there at least 4-5x a month. My family and I just returned from vacation and we didn't really feel like cooking, and so my husband recommended we order from this restaurant. I'm so glad that we did. There's several other restaurants that we've ordered from in the past, and the rice smelled awful. Not appetizing AT ALL! To the point, where I'd given up hope of finding a restaurant in Frederick that offered good quality tasting Asian food. In my opinion, this is the best Chinese food restaurant in Frederick. The staff is great. The food is the best around, not just for the flavors but portions are large enough even for the hungrier appetites. It's not just "scraps" of meat in your meal but fresh chuck's of protein that you can see without searching for some. My family and I keep coming back alone and also bring friends any chance we get. Food was excellent!! Service was great. We got soup with our lunch special as well as choice of spring roll or 2 crab Rangoon. They even brought hot towels to wipe our hands before we ate. Not only did we did get the token fortune cookies after our meal but they also brought 2 almond cookies. So let me start by saying we have been going to Modern Asia for 10-12 years (I don't know exactly) off and on. We have had issues where we have to step away and take some time off because of service issues or the food. Last time it was because the orders were never correct, and we were always having issues with getting the food we paid for. When you spend over $100 multiple times a week for a household - YOU EXPECT TO GET WHAT YOU ORDER! You also EXPECT to get it cooked correctly - not burnt or inedible. So, we stopped going for 2 years. We just started coming back since April 2024 - AND WE ARE BACK TO WHERE WE WERE! I call and order and once again my orders are not as I requested. We are missing items and I now ask for specifically "NOT BURNT RIBS" because if I don't its an 80% chance they will be so tough to chew or just black and not able to be eaten. Joe use to run the front desk and it was normal but same issues but always got fixed easily. Now I get Vicky (I think that is her name) whoever it is is new and I know the order will be wrong when I get her. Sammie runs the desk which usually means a better chance at getting what I ordered but only if she checks the order. I can tell she feels I am a bother or irritating asking for my order to be right or complaining when it is wrong (which I dont do that often - but I do specify how I want it because its been wrong so many times over the years). I feel she thinks I am suppose to just accept whatever I get. That wont happen. I get some people may take advantage, but we don't. I don't call unless there is an issue. Vicki use to help when there was an issue but not sure where she is - if she is even there anymore. and usually, Sammy will check but it is not always the case. They don't always get to them to ensure they are not over cooked. Yet tonight - OUR LAST ORDER as I told them! (AS WE WILL NO LONGER BE GOING TO SPEND OUR MONEY AT A RESTARAUNT THAT DOESNT NEED IT. I AM NOW WANTING TO WARNING OTHERS OF THEIR LACK OF CONCERN FOR YOUR PATRANEGE. THEY DONT CARE. THEY DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR MONEY OR THE HARD WORK IN MAKING IT OR OUR INVESTMENT IN THEIR BUSINESS. SO, I will pass the word to those of you who may read this to understand they don't care if your order is right or wrong or if your order is cooked correctly. They don't care if it is burnt. They don't care when I call and tell them. Their cooks say no, but they know it is. I will be happy to bring the food back (JUST ASK FOR IT WHEN YOU ARE TALKING TO ME - THE FIRST TIME. I HAVE ALWAYS BROUGHT IT BACK WHEN YOU ASKED. EVERY TIME!) - I will be bringing them my entire trash bag as they didn't tell me till they called me back after talking to me and telling they would put a credit for the ribs for my next visit. They didn't mention bringing the ribs back then. I would have kept them in the fridge easily. Just ask me to bring them back but I just flipped tossed them into the trash bag. IF they think after all the money, we have spent with you all this time that we are lying then I will ensure you get my ribs back, but I am not digging through my trash... they can. I have been with this place since they use to give away entrees to acquire customers and give away reusable bags - THEY ARE FOOLS if they think I care about complaining about ribs. I hate complaining... I would like to not call - all the nights they don't hear from me is a great night. If they don't look at those of us who are return customers and treat us with some common curtesy, then they should join all the other restaurants who close their doors and have unemployed employees who work for others because they lost the respect for thing that matter most. ---- The customer is not always right but treating a customer like the crappy food they serve for the overpriced amount they will inevitably close their doors. Fix it ... I will return only to return the ribs to show I was not lying but I will not be returning as repeat customer again! (I'll attach pictures when I can.) read more

My daughter had the Kung Pao chicken, which was prepared superbly and I had the Thai Basil Chicken, also wonderful!! Both were spicy and served piping hot! The servers are all really friendly and do their best to make your experience great. Please be kind, some of the servers are still learning and practicing their English, I for one appreciate that they're working on speaking English and hope you cut them some grace. The fact that a majority of Americans only speak English and don't even do that well, we should give them credit for working on building their English skills. The lunch specials are HUGE! Soup, entree, and your choice of egg roll or crab rangoons. This could easily be split between two meals so go hungry! The atmosphere is almost stereotypically Chinese restaurant, lots of red and a water feature. This would be a good location for a date, a casual family meal, or even a banquet party. My husband and I owe a great deal of gratitude to the owner and staff at Modern Asia. The stars aligned in summer 2021 when we were looking for a Chinese resturant in the Frederick area that could host a private party for our rehearsal dinner and it turned out that Modern Asia had just purchased the space next door and was planning on transforming it to a party room! We tried their lunch combo and also had a few of the chef's specialty dishes and worked up a menu with the owner for our rehearsal dinner. The pricing per table was competitive and we were happy with our selections as it included lobster and other auspicious entrees for a traditional Chinese wedding meal. Our rehearsal dinner went off without a hitch. All the dishes were very good and service was great. We had 6 tables total, and having the private space was perfect for us to host our closest friends and family.
