My partner and I stopped here on a whim when looking for somewhere nice for dinner. We were a little hesitant at first since the place was completely dead, but we were proven very wrong when we got our food. For appetizers, we ordered the dried dumplings ($7.50 for 6 pieces) and the sweet pork buns ($5 for 2). They were both delightful. The dumplings were pleasantly chewy, with the best crunch on the bottom. They were huge and seasoned very well. The buns were soft and pillowy, with a nice amount of meat in them. They could have been seasoned a little more, but some hot mustard really made them amazing. For our meals, we decided to order the dinner combo ($12.50). It comes with an egg roll, plain fried rice, and your entree of choice. I got orange chicken and they got Hunan chicken. Both meals were absolutely amazing, with fantastic portions. It was seasoned perfectly, and the orange chicken was crispy to the point of having an audible crunch. There were even real orange peels in the sauce! We both had leftovers to bring home and were completely full. The meal ended with fortune cookies, and a complimentary strawberry mousse. It was light, and perfectly sweet to end the meal. The service at the restaurant itself was lovely. No one was constantly over our shoulder, but our drinks stayed full and the food came out hot and quickly. The restaurant was quiet, and comfortable. I am generally very picky about Chinese food especially because my family owned an authentic Chinese restaurant. We were pleasantly surprised& continue to enjoy eating here. The food is consistent, there's a good mix of American style and Chinese style dishes. The food is tasty but not overly sauced or salted. The prices are excellent. The restaurant itself is clean and spacious. The service is great- they are so kind. One thing to be aware of is that the chow mein does not have noodles in it. While tasty, it's mainly sautéed vegetables in a white sauce. There are no noodles. Our kids were thrilled to get the piggy dessert buns and they even treat you to a whipped strawberry cup and fortune cookie. We will continue to come here! read more

My bill was almost $90.00 for takeout, a large order. No condiments, soy sauce, duck sauce were included in my order. Vegetable spring rolls, greasy, too much cabbage. Finally a Chinese restaurant in the area that doesn't suck! *happy dance* They also offer a good vegetarian selection too so I can actually eat from the same restaurant as the long suffering wife. Veggie Lo-mean was wonderful full of flavor and is already on my list to have again. Veggie fried rice was actually good enough to be used as left overs. And I rarely keep leftovers. Spring rolls delicious both hot and cold. And crispy noodles... *chefs kiss* The wife however having the Kong POW Chicken would wish for less peanuts and more chicken. I have been a fan of Peking Gourmet for over 20 years. It, along with Modern Asia have been my go to Chinese restaurants. In fact I often go to both when I am picking up Chinese food because Modern Asia doesn't make Mu Shu and Peking Gourmet (PG) does. I also like PG's egg rolls and Mongolan Beef better. We mostly like all the rest of our dishes better from Modern Asia. Last night I ordered from both, as usual. When I got to PG, I saw that the dining area was reopened and it looked great. But Irene wasn't there. I asked if the restaurant was still owned by Irene and the nice woman there told me they had new management, new owners. I wondered if the food would be as good. Unfortunately, I am sorry to report that the food was very disappointing. The egg rolls were obviously fried in oil that was too low of a temperature, or the egg rills were frozen and lowered the oil temperature, because the egg rolls were soggy with oil and undercooked, blah. The Mu Shu was disappointing because none of the traditional ingredients such as egg, black cloud mushrooms, ginger, and green onions were used. The sauce was totally not correct for Mu Shu either. The dish tasted like something bland with a hint of pork and onions. The hoisin sauce provided was watered down to the point of being runny. The Mongolian beef looked good, but the seasoning was totally off. Well, I should say nonexistent. Like an American dish of sliced beef and onion in a bland gravy. I have plenty of Chinese condiments in my pantry so I doctored it up to something that tasted okay. All in all, I will not have to go to two restaurants to make my Chinese pick-ups. Peking Gourmet, sadly, is off my list. read more

I have to say this place is pretty consistant. From the "15 min" window for pick up to the great taste. The ladies at the counter are friendly and the food tastes good. Peking Gourmet is the most authentic Chinese food around the area. The only complaint I have is they have added filler items like broccoli in some of their dishes that normally do not have broccoli like Sesame chicken and General Tso's chicken so they can use less chicken. Since so many folks mentioned the General Tso's chicken, I went back on Sunday and ordered it. Wow. It was spicy and delicious. Gooey and tangy with mysterious flavors and aromas. These days it seems like the popular way to fix this dish is with lots of sugar. The Peking Gourmet version is a little less sweet. read more

Tried this on a whim one night for carryout originally and loved it, had a few of the Chef's Specialties that I hadn't seen offered anywhere else before such as "Double Seasoned Lamb" which was amazing and full of flavor. But my dining in experience is what set the bar for me. They start you off immediately with hot tea and ice water, and the wrap things up at the end of your meal with hot steamed towels and cookies. After a few days of watching my diet I figure i give myself a little treat, and what could be better than chinese food. From the lunch menu I order the sesame chicken that comes with your typical fried rice and choice of wonton or egg roll. The rice was terrible, no flavor what so ever. No green onions, not one single piece of pork, no scramble eggs, nothing. Only plain old boring sauté white rice and soy sauce. The chicken pieces were a hot mess!!. Pieces were cut to big, batter was not made with cornstarch, so it immediately became soggy and chewy when they sauté in that funky brown sauce. It actually tasted like one of my many attempts at making general tso's chicken. The wonton broth wasn't as bad as the rest of the meal. The only reason I give it two stars is the service. TL;DR: Bad staff. Obnoxious owner. Don't waste your time. My experience today was awful. We called in an order over $50 and they told us it would be 45 minutes for delivery. 40 minutes later they called us back because they'd written the credit card number down wrong and it wouldn't go through. 45 minutes after that our food still hadn't been delivered. When we called back we were told that our order had been moved to the back of the line and had not been made yet. First we were told the manager couldn't waste his time on us and then the owner informed us that we could wait at least 45 more minutes or cancel the order and practically dared us to write a bad review. The chicken fried rice was just ok and the "fried rice" that came with the other dishes was not good at all. The orange chicken sauce was really good but the chicken was fatty. When my family first moved to the area we regularly ate at a different Chinese restaurant...until we discovered the unbelievably delicious food, wonderful atmosphere, and friendly service at Peking Gourmet...now i can honestly say Peking Gourmet is hands down the best chinese food restaurant in the frederick area. For Chinese food i personally would never do anywhere else. Peking Gourmet has a wide selection of delicious dishes all generously portioned and served fresh and piping hot. I am a vegetarian while other members of my family are avid carnivores, Peking Gourmet has a dish to delight everyone. One of the great things about Peking Gourmet's food is that it is fresh and flavorful and never overly greasy or oily like a lot of Chinese restaurants. The food from Peking Gourmet is more flavorful and healthier (no MSG :D) then most chinese restaurants. I cannot say enough about how delicious the food is. PLUS PEking Gourmet is the only restaurant i know of that will deliver to my home (which is in adamstown) which just shows what excellent service the owners and employees always provide. I feel like this is too long and no-one will want to read it all, so i will just end by saying Peking Gourmet has the best General Tso's and Kung Pao sauces I've ever had..better then places in New York city's Chinatown, there takeout is always speedy and fresh...and anyone who hasn't been to Peking Gourmet who lives in the frederick area is missing out! This is seriously a hidden gem of a restaurant within a strip mall. First, the food is delicious. I started with 2 egg rolls & they were very big & yummy...and for $2.95 how can you beat that?!?! Then I had the General Tso's chicken & fried rice. A nice spice & zing to it. Really done to perfection - I've only had better in Chinatown in San Francisco. What impressed me just as much as the food was the service. You could tell it was family owned...just very kind & genuine people. Always checked if I had enough drink, rice, and soy sauce. They wrapped up what I couldn't eat for me. And when they brought me the check, in addition to the token fortune cookie, they also brought me a delicious almond cookie & a HOT TOWEL. Best Chinese restaurant in Frederick! I love that they serve water and hot tea right when you get to youe table. The service was quick abd friendly. We had spring rolls which where perfectly crispy. Our meal was chicken with broccoli and white rice and combination lo mein. The chicken was deliciously seasoned wi th crisp broccoli. The lo mein had huge pieces of beef chicken and lots of shrimp. Lots of places will skimp you on the meat. They also served a big bowl of white steamed rice. At the end of the meal we had almond cookies and steamed towels with the check. Went to order delivery today and was told they will no longer deliver to our home because of the return.
