Good food! Fast service- got the general taps chicken and beef and broccoli both were 6/10. No place to sit best for carry out

The food was horrible. I spent close to $60 for food that was not fresh. The broccoli was soggy, the chichen was soggy, the noodles in the beef lo mein was soggy and the beef was soggy. I also ordered sweet and sour chicken. The sause had no pineapples, cherries or anything that normally comes with the dish. Just plain sauce. Clearly, this was food that was old, and should have been thrown out. My family could not even finish the food it was so disgusting. These people are simply getting money, and not caring at all about serving customes food that should have been thrown away. They are being cheap, and serving bad food to people. This is the second time I've been there and I ordered my dinner to be spicy once again and again they did not do that. Not only that, the grease was overbearing, it's like have your broccoli and beef with our grease here. It was horrible , especially for the price I paid. Will not go there again!!! read more

I've gotten dumplings at a number of Chinese restaurants, and they always seem home made. Big Chef's version looked more like what you would buy frozen at the grocery store. And they were the same price. I will never buy from here again. read more

Great service the food had large portion of fresh vegetables, and the delivery service was excellent.

So there we were, looking for a new Chinese restaurant to order dinner takeout. And there it was... Big Chef. Pretty solid Chinese food. The hot and sour soup had an intense and richer flavor than most I've had recently. Lo mein was pretty good. Everything else was adequate. Overall a decent place to get an Asian food fix. read more

Big Chef and hot wok have a special place in my heart. I grew up on both of these take out spots and I could always rely on them for a decent affordable meal living on 40. The lady in the front is a legend and is always on top of things. Super friendly as well, It was just always hard justifying going back to these restaurants once modern Asia and the hmart opened up , big chef is good but these other places are exceptional and always satisfy my Asian cuisine cravings beyond expectations. Not to mention with inflation and prices going up ... they are relatively close in price now anyways. I genuinely believe that's why hot wok closed down after so many years... increased prices and lack of innovation to compete with competitors. The food was fine for this particular order.... Only issue i did have was I order a 4 wing meal and they split em so basically 8 halves but I only got 7 lol.... I wasn't going to drive all the way back for a half... but it was annoying. read more

This is great take out/delivery Chinese food. We enjoyed the Moo Shu pork, Singapore Mai Fun, and Egg Fu Young. The egg drop and wonton soups are also tasty. The plaza is under construction, so it was hard to find in the corner next to H Mart. The customer space as you walk in is dingy, so don't let that throw you off. read more

I give Big Chef Kitchen top marks for being one of the best dang'ol Chinese Take-Out spots in Frederick for my entire existence. When H-Mart was still an old Giant? Big Chef Kitchen was there. When you could walk downstairs from the lobby next to Il Forno's and see a movie or play arcade games? Big Chef Kitchen was there. It used to be more important how they would give you cold cans of soda with larger orders. I just remember everyone appreciating Big Chef Kitchen... forever. The only thing is they don't do spicy garlic wontons, say whaat? But they do what they do: your rock solid, reliable and lovable staple Chinese takeout of the region since God was young. As for the detractors: you probably deeply desire to have a more traditional dim sum restaurant which tends to skirt the edges of white table cloth/finer dining. Some of the best meals I've ever had, too. If you want to make it more authentic here, ask them to use more chili oil (they have to make it regularly, usually). Maybe get a good spray bottle for some vinegar at the house for dressing your noodles or rice? Ball bearing or bust. With take-away, half the battle is YOURS! and knowledge is power. read more

came in tuesday night with my girlfriend and there was only one guy working when i tried to pay, before anything he pressed no tip (i'd be more than glad to tip). he said 10 minutes and we sat down and talked for a minute and in what felt like 5 mins he told us it was ready and we went to grab it and he completely loaded the chicken over the brim of the container which made me more enticed to leave him a tip. food was amazing couldnt find a thing wrong with it. overall very nice little place i think it's slept on pretty hard. read more

By far the best Chinese takeout I've head living in Frederick so far. Coming from the Pacific Northwest, that is saying something. Their portions are huge, not over cooked, and deliciously satisfying. WAY better food and prices over Modern Asia. This is my new takeout spot. read more

It was ok. Nothing mind blowing. I ordered the Kung Pao tofu which is normally stir fried but this one seemed to be boiled and then mixed. Very watery and not much flavor. Certainly did not meet my expectations. Not what I was seeking. When I order in the Rockville/Gaithersburg area I get it the way I've always enjoyed the dish but up here in Frederick, I have yet to find one. :( read more

My husband and I were craving some fried rice. We frequent HMART often for our groceries and noticed a small Chinese takeout in the same shopping center as the store. I checked out the reviews on here, and I must say that they lived up to the hype. We ordered cautiously, trying only the shrimp fried rice and egg rolls. Both were pretty tasty. The rice had a great color and aroma and was well seasoned. The egg rolls were crispy and not too greasy. The condiments were also available at the counter to pick at your discretion. Picked up to go last night. Not sure what has happened but the food was terrible. Hopefully it was just a fluke, cause we love this place. Prices are great, the orders are always right, and people who work there always nice. Last night the chicken looked and tasted weird the rice was hard. Very out of the way gem! Despite being surrounds by retail everything, this place is tucked way into the corner of the shopping plaza it's in. Well worth the discovery, for the most part, and bonus for me, it's within walking distance of home! It's pretty typical of any Chinese take-out. There are tables, but it doesn't seem to cater much to the sit-down crowd. The service is fast and friendly, and very reasonably priced. The food is delicious, but somehow doesn't taste quite as good as it smells. Don't let that deter you. The food is still delicious! read more

I got a horrible experience with the owner of Big Chef Chinese Kitchen. My first time ordered was superb food. This place set up well protected from the COVID-19. A few days ago, I decided to order this place again and got a horrible experience. I had a copy of the large 11"x17" menu sheet from the first visit. I ordered through phone calls and had very difficult to place the order based on the sheet. I gave up and ordered it through an online website. I selected under lunch menu for #32, Chicken Chow Mein that came with fried rice and wonton soup. I also ordered #1, (2) Roast Pork Egg Rolls, as an extra cost. I paid online and went out to pick up my order then bought it to my home about 15 miles away (30 miles round trip). I got everything except NO WONTON SOUP!!!. This soup is my favorite for so many years as a native New Yorker (NYC). I called and spoke with the owner. He was so nasty, scream, called me a liar, and then hung up at me to bring the food back and refund the money. I tried to ask him to place my name for next time to pick up the soup. I finished with this restaurant because the owner was unprofessional behavior to the customer. I found a better place and better food now. I will NEVER order the Big Chef Chinese Kitchen again. read more

This is my favorite Chinese food place in Frederick (Yes, even more so than China Garden -gasp!-). The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. I usually ask for them to make the dishes extra spicy, which they do and include a small container of extra spice just in case. The shrimp they use are large, not the small frozen kind. I usually get the shrimp with broccoli, extra spicy. I love it and have a hard time straying. My husband however has tried multiple dishes and has been pleased with most of them. Their egg rolls, Wonton soup, crab rangoon, all delish! I will definitely be eating here again, and soon. read more

I absolutely love and adore this place. Their food is always amazing; and they give you a lot of food for what you pay. They always pack the noodle and rice containers super full. They are settled back in a little corner beside of Burlington and H-mart. And have been there to at least 20 years. They are always super friendly and welcoming. We've tried a bunch of other well-rated Chinese food restaurants in the area, but we like this place best. I get fried wontons, boneless BBQ spare ribs, and pork fried rice. It's delicious! The reviews were mixed, but this place is super convenient to home so we gave it a shot. Vast menu, but we stuck to our usual staples for easier comparison. Food was piping hot and looked and smelled delicious. Unfortunately, it didn't taste as good as it smelled. The sauces for the Kung Pao and General Tso's were bland and lacked depth of flavor. The shrimp were those tiny mini shrimp that have very little flavor and we're quite the disappointment. Even the fried wontons and BBQ spare ribs were just sort of meh. This place is consistently my favorite for inexpensive Chinese food in the area. It is a charming little resteraunt tucked away on the corner of a shopping center with about half a dozen tables. Egg rolls drenched in oil; meat dumpling so thick and doughy no one wanted to finish them; with the expected hot and spicy Szehuan dish seeming to be dressed in the same thick and syrupy-sweet red sauce of the General Tsao's chicken. The broccoli in both dishes tasted like it was cooked the day before. YUK. If you're on Route 40 and desperate for Chinese, try the combo lo mein. It wasn't too bad with some nice pieces of chicken and shrimp. Otherwise......run over to McDonald's. (You're welcome). read more
