I took my mom and brother to get crabs here and was very satisfied. First of all, we had a really good price on crabs, only $40 a dozen. They were a mix of smalls, mediums, and larger, and I was happy that I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg to enjoy crabs so in my opinion it's a great price. The service was excellent. The ladies who waited on us were very attentive. I like the outdoor seating and how you have the pavilion to eat under. This place wasn't fancy, a laid back hidden gem in Frederick. We went on a rainy day, and there were still a few people there. I would imagine on a nice day it would be packed. Plenty of seating and the tables are spread out enough. I should have taken a photo of the crabs, but I was so excited I started eating right away! If you are looking for crabs and are on a tight budget, I recommend Buckeystown Pub for the quality and fair pricing.

We were invited to watch our friends band, Special Delivery at the Buckeystown Pub on Saturday Aug 14, 2021. Hundreds were already there by 4 PM when the band began. Parking was difficult, but we discovered a second overflow parking area. There were no signs to direct folks there, you just have to know from experience. Luckily we had lawn chairs in the car since there was no where left to sit to watch the band. It was very crowded with a lot of people having fun! The one bartender at the Tiki bar serviced hundreds by herself, it was superhuman! We ordered a bucket of beer that puts 6 beers in a metal bucket filled with ice at a great price, wonderful! Ordering food was super difficult however. We walked to the indoor bar where there were three bartenders. That area was busy too but not nearly to the degree of the outside in the band area. However, there was a distinct difference of the indoor bartenders demeanor. They all seemed to be angry and the blonde woman was straight up rude to customers. We waited at the bar for someone to take our order for 20 minutes, finally the blond woman looked at us and we asked for crabcakes to which she replied "we don't have any" and she left without letting us make another food choice. When she returned she walked right by and ignored us while taking a new customers order. We waited 10 more minutes and no one would take our order. It seemed that local repeat customers were priority not sure. We had to leave to go get food somewhere else.. This place could be a goldmine if they had 5 people like the woman at Tiki bar. This business could really use its own Bar Rescue episode with Jon Taffer.

If you're looking for a place that is loud, with well intentioned but unskilled teenage servers serving hit or miss food at top dollar- this is exactly the place for you. If you want an environment that cares more about selling large quantities of alcohol to already intoxicated people, you've also found the place. The prime rib couldn't have been worse if they tried. It tasted like it had been bathed in liquid smoke and salt water. The meat was over cooked for the medium I ordered and it had the consistency of a cheap sirloin that can only be achieved when you don't take the time to cook it correctly. The au jus was too salty and Smokey to use- literally like a 50/50 mix liquid smoke and saltwater. The baked potato was ok on the inside but the skin and about 1/2" of the outer portions were tough as shoe leather. I don't know how that's even possible. Drink refills were few and far between. The servers are all great kids from the local high school who try hard, but the only reason they got a tip was because they are local kids that my kids know- not because the service was great. Let's talk about the noise for a minute. That place has tables crammed into every inch of that musky smelling old home. When you add in drink servers who are motivated by money and enabled by a lack of leadership- you get a bunch of loud drunks. Throw in live music and you're guaranteed to have a place so loud you can't hear anyone at your table trying to talk. The banana pudding used to be our favorite so we ordered two to go, we ended up throwing one away and the other was left half eaten. It tastes like store bought pudding with cheap whipped topping- nothing else. We have a three strikes rule and this was strike #3, definitely not coming back here. If you want quality food for the masses, Andy's down the street has great pizza for a fraction of the price of this place. Daughter Thai across the street is about the same price point as 1836, but offers consistent quality in their food with an atmosphere perfect for a family dinner. If you're looking for overpriced bar food and a place that doesn't care how many drinks you've had- I think this is the perfect place for you and your fraternity brothers. The buffalo cauliflower appetizer is good and their schnitzel platter is great, just avoid the steaks, prime rib, drinks that need refills, anything with fries and you're fine. This is our third attempt in three years and we are done. Which is sad because there aren't many options in town. Deep breath in...Unless you count the time when they closed for the night unexpectedly and we ordered them via their website because they forgot to turn off their system so they charged us and it took an hour before their system realized nothing was happening and we had to wait almost a week for them to refund the money but the owner emailed it was coming and didn't apologize or explain why they left their orders on when they closed because he really didn't seem to care about it....inhales deeply to catch breath...then this was trip #4. Either way, this place is scratched off the list unless we are looking for a bar with loose moral standards and not food.

It filled up fast, and there was a lively bar crowd, and also an engagement party celebration upstairs. All of the servers were so friendly, and happy to share their favorite dishes and beers, etc. We started with the wings, which were great, and then we had the house salad with salmon and the burger and fries. OK, I did not order the burger and fries, but my boyfriend did, and I ate half the fries on his plate, they were that good! Great, friendly, with generous pours for wine, and just a really friendly, great place with perfect food for a winter day. I wish I could find a place like this in Washington, DC.

The server was great very attentive and patient as we ask lots of questions about the menu. They have a new burger item every week so we all tried that it was a Smashburger with crab on top pretty good and very big. They had an option to upgrade the truffle fries which we did and the fries were great. Would definitely come back if I was ever in town again to try something new.
