We stopped at the Upper Deck on our way back from watching the Military Bowl in Annapolis. The place is what we were looking forward. Faster service at a sit down place where we could watch some of the other bowl games. There are plenty of TVs and we watched the pop tart bowl, Pinstripe bowl, and the Fenway Bowl. The service was really good. We had two servers (who also tended the bar) and checked on us regularly. My son had old bay, boneless wings. He really enjoyed them. I had the Chesapeake Flatbread. This place is a quintessential local sports bar. The bar service was excellent and I have to give them a huge shoutout for recognizing military veterans, one free beer for active and vets...thank you! Being a burger junkie, I ordered the morning burger. Of course this is a common combination of a fried egg and bacon on top of a burger. One of my favorite things about this burger is the egg yolk that breaks onto the burger at the first bite. However that wasn't the case for this burger. The egg was cooked over hard...disappointing. The burger was a decent size (8 oz) but it tasted like a store bought frozen patty. I hate giving any negative reviews on local establishments but I have to be honest and hope owners/management learn from constructive feedback. Based on the burger alone I would of give this place 2 stars however based on service, military recognition and being locally owned, I gave them 3 stars and am definitely going to return and try another menu item. read more

We popped in here for the first time on a Friday night at 730. Family of 4. Place was busy with old school bar vibes. Lots of TVs and high top tables. Service was excellent and food came super fast. Everything was good. We will definitely go back! read more

I haven't been here in awhile. I kinda thought it had changed since I'd been here. Well it has. But I don't think not having pool tables anymore is going to be a problem for them. Still great wings. These are the best wings I've ever had for the price. I ordered Old Bay dry and they were a good size, cooked well and seasonal just right. This is a sports bar that has enough variety on the TV to keep you engaged. It has an outside deck and enough inside space to seat large parties. The staff are friendly and attentive and today appeared well planned out in preparation for a large crowd. Only issue is not a large craft beer selection or crowd but I found what I like. read more

I really wanted a burger and a beer. I remembered the upper deck and we went there. The server was great, just friendly and made us feel welcomed. My wife got a cosmo and said it was very good. I had the small beer and it must have been 16 ounces! The food came fast but was very well prepared. The burger was excellent, not greasy. The fries were cooked perfectly. Very crisp, not greasy. Just took my family there, and after waiting over an hour, we had nothing on our table besides water. Eventually told us they lost our ticket and would put a rush on it. 30 minutes later, still nothing and no update. I finally went and searched for the lone server and asked again if we could get an update on our order. About five minutes later our server is rushing towards us with one plate, and we got excited... but he walked right by us to give it to somebody who came in 20 minutes after us. They should have offered something like free chips or an app to tide hungry kids over until the food was ready. We are nice and very reasonable people, and we were very let down. We eventually walked out. Our waiter apologized and said he did not know what to say, that the kitchen was just backed up. read more

This local beer and wings place is a treasure for wing lovers everywhere. Pre COVID I would frequent it on Mondays for burger night with my son. He would get a burger, I'd get wings everyone wins. On rare occasions I would order takeout on Tuesday when they had a bogo deal on a pound of wings. They have lots of flavors and will mix. They even have a gochujang wing sauce which is excellent. I did take away a star though because this place is mainly a bar and not a restaurant. And as such can attract a bar crowd which is not great for people with small children. Hence why I would only eat in on Mondays a traditionally slow bar night. Thursday through Sunday this place is (maybe changed for COVID) packed solid with wall to wall drinkers which is not my scene. If you want a good neighborhood bar though this place is for you. read more

A few friends and I decided to return here after hearing new management has taken over the the service/food has improved. When we arrived I did notice a few changes to the look of the place; small but effective changes. I think there are more TVs now, which is a must for a sports bar. They have cleared out more space for tables as well. I think the biggest improvement is the freshly remodeled bathrooms. I know people don't usually take this part of a restaurant experience into account, but the bathrooms were very nicely done. Freshly painted barn-style stalls and granite counter tops with modern faucet fixtures. All very clean! On to the meal. We split a pitcher of yeungling beer and ordered some mini corn dogs to share. For the price of the dogs, I'd say 8 of them was reasonable. I did almost double the order after trying them though. They were a good finger food to share. My friends both got bacon cheeseburgers with a side of fries and I tried the Philly cheese steak. They both agreed the burger was tasty. Maybe slightly overdone but the seasoning and toppings were altogether a good burger. The cheese steak was very filling and had a lot of flavor. All of the ingredients tasted and looked fresh. The meat was a tad dry but overall the sandwich was still well made. The wait staff were very polite and helpful as well, and prompt with their service. I'd say this is a good start for a restaurant trying to turn things around. The prices are very reasonable and they have a substantial amount of menu options. Not to mention their daily specials and happy hour. It's nothing fancy food-wise, just standard American bar food, but it hits the spot. I will be sure to come more often and add this to my list of local Mount Airy places to dine out! read more

If you want to be nickle and dimed to death, this is your place. Tasteless cold bar food and small portions in a dark dive of a bar. I asked for some tabasco sauce and the waitress told me they didn't have any, but could bring me a small plastic tub of wing hot sauce. I accepted and was shocked to see a .99 charge on my bill for a thimble of hot sauce. We were offered regular fries, curly fries or onion rings with our sandwiches. We chose onion rings, and were surprised again to see a $1.49 upcharge when we were told our sandwich came with our choice of those sides. Another upcharge for a tablespoon of dressing for the completely dry sandwich bun. Really? I'm surprised they don't charge extra for ketchup, plasticware and a napkin. What a rip off. Unless you want to feel deceived and taken advantage of, go somewhere else. read more

5 stars for what it is, an inexpensive local establishment. My wife and stopped in while driving through town. What an unexpected pleasure. The food was very tasty, good portions, and reasonably priced. We arrived after the lunch rush and found service to be instantaneous and friendly. I had a cheesesteak and my wife had wings. We were both very pleased with our lunch. And particularly pleased with our onion ring appetizer. They were large, crunchy, and cooked to perfection. If I lived in town, I would be a regular. I wish there was an option for 3.5 stars. I want the Upper Deck to get to 5 so badly as I live right down the street and it would exponentially increase my quality of life. The Good: Good value. The food is good for the price. Everyone should be able to find something they like among the appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, etc. I've not had a bad meal yet. The beer selection is decent and they have around 8 taps or so. In a perfect world, they'd have more specialty beer and a better wine selection but it is better than average and the prices are excellent! The location is perfect if you are passing through Mt. Airy and I find the interior welcoming. There are plenty of TVs for catching your favorite game. There are several high-top bar tables that can seat 6+ people. Pool tables, dart lanes....a nice spot to spend a rainy afternoon. I think anyone can feel comfortable here - families, couples, friends, whatever. The Not-So-Good (but so easily fixed)!!!! The service. As a former waitress and bartender, nothing is worse to me than being ignored. Especially if you are friendly and consistently tip well above 20%. We've had bartenders (not all) who have spent our entire visit entertaining one corner of the bar while my glass is empty or my husband is waiting to pay the check. It is one thing when someone is slammed and doing the best they can. It's another when someone has plenty of free time and they make you feel as though you are interrupting them if you ask for something. This is a small town for grief's sake. Outstanding. I've lived in Mt Airy for years and feel disappointed I had never been before last weekend. To highlight my newfound admiration for this place, I went for the first time last Saturday, again on Sunday, and again this weekend. Their specials are terrific (e.g. $5 awesome apps, $2 rails, etc.) Their food and drinks are truly great. Their hand breaded chicken (including the chicken fingers, boneless wings, fried chicken sandwich, and I'm sure everything else) is phenomenal. The house made sauces are delicious. I've been too many restaurants/bars that have fallen short of expectations. The Upper Deck exceeded all my expectations. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. read more

Excellent little dive. My husband and I stopped in during the Mt Airy chocolate crawl, not expecting much, and we're pleasantly surprised.
