We went to this awesome down-to-earth brewery on a whim during the week. This end of Market Street in Frederick feels like a neighborhood in a European city in some ways. We were greeted immediately when we walked in and you could tell many of the folks there were regulars - like a modern Cheers vibe. My personal favorite among the beers was the En Fleur and we really liked the Penny Pincher and the Irish Stout they had. I even tried my first breakfast stout there (though I probably will never have beer for breakfast in my wiser years)! It is in the same space as a burger spot, which I think is really smart. OMG; OMB is so freaking good! Frederick has a wealth of local brewers, and Olde Mother is consistently at the top of the heap. The taproom at OMB has a warm, Cheers-like vibe (they don't know my name, but I'm working on it!). Their taps feature a rotating selection of light, sour/fruity, hoppy, dark/malty, and non-alcoholic beers. I'm a fan of their various Kolsches, and their stouts are "interesting" (I enjoyed their Morning Ritual Golden Breakfast Stout this week: looks like a lager, with a maple syrup taste that was really refreshing. Guinness it wasn't!). They also offer cocktails and wines for those poor people that can't appreciate a well-crafted, well-poured brews (pagans!). Pours are generous, prices are reasonable, value is great. They even have a selection of board games so you can while away a cold (or hot) evening by yourself or with friends. But wait: there's more... OMB shares space with Backslash Burgers (which was recently renamed from "50/50 Burgers" for what sounds like trademark reasons. Yelp hasn't caught the name change yet. You'll have to look them up under the old name for my (5 star, baby!) review. TLDR: amazing 50% beef/50% bacon smashburgers cooked to order with your choice of toppings, or you can choose from several very interesting regular offers. (If you like heat, try the "I Can't Feel My Face" burger. I dare you...). Sandwiches can be ordered as single or double patties, and can be made with chicken. Large groups can be accommodated, and there are regular events (bands, Night Markets, even a "Paint Your Pet" night are on this month's schedule) to help bring in thirsty and hungry hordes. Trivia Night is every Thursday, and it can get raucous. OMB shares a parking lot across the street with Gravel & Grind bike and coffee shop. It's not easily handicap accessible, with a few steps separating OMB and BB, and since both are self-service that could be a problem, but it's a great place to make helpful friends, no? We were excited to try this place and the beer was great, but unfortunately our experience was ruined when staff began mopping directly behind us with strong Pine-Sol fumes while we were eating and drinking. The smell was overwhelming, and we ended up throwing away our food and leaving. I'm sharing this because it's an easily fixable training issue--most food and beverage establishments avoid strong chemical cleaning in active dining areas "Mopping with strong chemical cleaners like Pine-Sol in a restaurant while customers are eating nearby is generally considered poor customer service, unprofessional, and potentially a health concern. This was a cool brewery in Frederick. Bar staff were friendly and attentive. They serve food in their back area, but we were just stopping in for beer so didn't try it this time. I tried a peanut butter chocolate porter that was really good and a barleywine that was decent. My bf tried a sour and a fruited wheat and enjoyed them. It was a cool, casual vibe. this brewery is a casual spot to hang out with friends. They have a wide selection of beers and ciders ranging from IPAs to sour beers. They also have board games that you can play while sipping one of their beverages. They have a menu of each draft that they offer with a description of their flavor profile. The bartenders are very nice and helpful. They allowed me to sample a few of their drafts before choosing the one that I like the most. Awesome brewery in downtown Frederick. It's not walkable to any of the other downtown breweries on Carroll creek, but it's a very close car ride. They have an average amount of beer on tap. There's bar seating, tables near the bar and a whole separate connecting room where the brewing is done with big tables and a stage for bands. Large amount of merch and cooler packed full of to go cans. This brewery openly supports LGTQ+ and has merch and a flag out front. If you don't agree with them, who cares, just enjoy the great beer! They have an on site kitchen that has delicious smash burgers. This place is kid friendly but no dogs allowed inside so keep that in mind. This is one of my favorite Frederick breweries. read more

Here is a new addition to my reviews. Is the location and the facilities pet-friendly? Old Mother Brewing got a star because they allow dogs on their patio! We ended up taking the Labs. No, we did not let the Labs have a beer. They are crazy as it is; beer would not be a good idea. 1. Chicken sandwich (provided by 50/50) was good. 2. The Old Bay french fries were awesome! The beer, which was why we went, was also awesome. Parking costs them a star (it is not easy to park there), but they gain one for my new favorite thing: pet-friendly! Oh the beer was amazing. I feel that they've sadly sat upon their laurels and the passion that showed in their beers has faded. Raspberry sour, that didn't taste much of raspberry. Plenty to like here. Good beer. Good service. Nice family pub like vibe. Good location. Free parking. Check out the Dewayo Beast a 10% ABV Imperial Stout. It's brewed with coffee, Mecco chipotles, and roasted pistachios. I didn't really taste the chipotles, but the coffee and the nuttiness of the pistachios came through and were really good. Many imperial stouts have a syrup like consistency, but this more crisp and dry. Was also very impressed with the Blackout Black IPA, which balanced out the strong hops with a good roasted malt. read more

In a beer town like Frederick it's hard for a brewery to stick out. Olde Mother Brewing sticks out in all the good ways. Here's how: 1) Location: Along N. Market Street, they are a large brewery across the street from the 1913 Junior Fire Company. They have two bars on the inside with plenty of seating at limited capacity during the pandemic. The back room is massive with high industrial ceilings. They also have a small outdoor patio along the side. 2) Beer: They have a wide range of beers. My wife loves IPAs and both their options are among the best she's had. As a sour ale fan, I was excited to see two on the menu. Both were excellent, but the Flemish-style, barrel-aged sour was unique. I've never had anything like it! 3) Service: The bartenders were friendly and attentive and efficient. Olde Mother won me over quickly, shooting up the list of all the breweries I visited this past weekend to be in my top 2. After a rave review from a waitress at Thatcher & Rye, I made it a point to go by Olde Mother, and I'm glad I did! Nice space, clean, with spaced tables and bar chairs safely spaced along the bar. My friend and I sat at the bar, and it was awesome, almost like before times. I quickly asked if they serve flights and was happy to find they did! I went with a recommendation from the waitress, the Sour Punch (amaretto this time), as well as the Zen Master, plus I added the Dire Wolf, and the Elegance to round out my set of 4. I liked the sour, was meh about the Zen Master, ok about Dire Wolf, but that Elegance was a happy surprise. Soooo good, and I just tossed it into my flight on a whim! After, I ordered one of the can beers, Snowball Fight. It was DELICIOUS! Hoping I can find it in Baltimore, I need to have that again soon! Came here after a hike with my friend and we were both starving. We first ordered our drinks as the bar was there as soon as we walked in. Took a sip of the cold beer and it was so refreshing and tasty. Then we walked towards the back where they have a separate area for the food. It's called Fifty Fifty. Ordered some sweet potato fries, but should have gone with regular fries as they were much tastier. And also got the Peter Piper burger with some additional jalapeños, caramelized onions, and pickles. Initially thought it was delicious because I was so hungry and would think anything was good, but my friend also said her burger was delicious. I also liked how the burger patties were thin and stacked on top of each other. Only thing I noticed and wish was different was the slightly soggy bun. BUT that won't stop me from ordering their burgers again when I go back. Def one of the breweries I will keep on my list! read more

What a gem! Neighbors to a fire station (I feel safer already) don't let the creepy skull sign scare you away, Old Mother is here to nurture you with bold beers with serious octane! Serving beers on tap as well as cans the menu spectacularly describes the flavors to a t. I got the Peter Keveikman, floral, tropical fruits and beautifully smooth this 7%AbV IPA was wonderful!! I also had the Portal Vision which had a similar but also distinct flavor profile. Every group has a "not a huge beer drinker" friend, but guess what.... Mama provides. Falkor Cider has a pink dragon fruit tinge, bright and down right summer drinking. The space is clean and industrial with an outside space as well for social distance drinking. Finally got to try this place out after driving by it so many times. I read some reviews about rude employees but I did not encounter such a thing. My husband and I had a wonderful Friday date night here. The beer was amazing and decently priced and the burgers from fifty/fifty were amazing. Highly recommend the Frank lager and the impressionist IPA. They had and amazing emo playlist going for my millennial soul and I just enjoyed the whole experience. read more

We held an informal family gathering here. We really appreciated the large space, relaxed atmosphere, and being able to spend as much time as we liked without being rushed out. The attached burger place, 50-50 burger, was delicious. We came in at midday with a large group. They did a great job of keeping up with the sudden unexpected rush. Staff was friendly and polite. Last night my boyfriend and I went to Olde Mother Brewing for a couple of pints and a burger at 50/50 that shares space with them. It was trivia night and it was filled with a variety of interesting people-young and old. We attempted to play trivia while I learned to play darts. Yes, it can be done. Olde Mother has a nice variety of their own beers on tap and take-away cans. And for you wine drinkers and non-alcoholic drinkers, they have you covered too. Friendly bartenders and fun atmosphere. It's a great place to go after work, on the weekends, and in the evening. Great place to meet people or be alone. I've done both but I always end up talking to someone new. Cheers! read more

I love craft beer and this place was a treat. They had a lot of IPA's on tap and a sour. The IPA style had a unique flavor of it's own and definately a flavor profile I really cant describe in words. They were good beers none the less. They brew in house and I always love to support my fellow craft brewers. Just like anyone I like to collect stickers on my travels, they charge a buck a sticker; not a big deal it's only a buck but who charges for a sticker. I get it - it's merchandise. On the flip side they have a filtered water fountain, that was pretty cool. read more

I used to go to this brewery pretty often until the once co owner, now owner (unfortunately) bought out the other owner. from my understanding the 'new' owner proceeded to fire his best brewer because he hung up the American flag in the brewery he worked every day... havent been back since. We are currently in the process of trying all of the Frederick breweries! Last Sunday, this was first on the list! Located near Downtown Frederick, this brewery is in a rather small building. Only holding about six tables and the bar, I could see how it can get tight in there on a busy winter night. On this visit, they had a couple of dogs inside. Good to know if you have allergies! This brewery is a fantastic place to come and grab a drink. Not too far north from the downtown, the beer and atmosphere here are great. One of my favorites is the Killer Combo 2. There is plenty of seating spaced out between the front tasting room, back room, and side patio. The bartenders are super friendly and great to talk to about the brews. They have menus for a food truck around the corner and they host trivia weekly. Parking isn't too difficult; all the main streets are free after 5 anyway.
