We visited Idiom as part of our brewery hopping in Frederick. It's a large space with ample seating and cool murals. You can order food and pick it up inside. The bartenders were very friendly. My bf ordered a sour for himself and their pumpkin porter for me. The bartender let him taste another sour they had on tap that he enjoyed and ordered for his second round. We also ordered pretzel dogs which were tasty and went well with our beers. Overall, we enjoyed the beers and the ambience and definitely want to try out their pizza next time we visit! read more

I tried Idiom for the first time this weekend, and unfortunately I won't be coming back. I tried three beers and only one was up to par. The festbier was good, the peach cream ale was okay but the fruit flavor seemed artificial, and unfortunately I hated the pumpkin stout: it smelled burnt and tasted very odd. I also ordered a pizza from their kitchen. It was extremely greasy, and I had to blot off the oil with napkins. Lastly, there flies indoors buzzing around my pizza and landing on my head. We spent a night in Frederick to go bar hopping and stopped in at Idiom, as they have sour beers. I did not expect their sours to be so good. I am a sucker for sours that contain lactose. We had different sours and shared amongst ourselves, as we wanted to try them all. We also had bruschetta ($8), as dinner was still several hours away. It was good, not great. They have a system where you order at a kiosk, receive a text, and then go to pick it up. What a great little brewery!! We really enjoyed all the beers we tried here and even took some home. The double hazy was super flavorful and we also enjoyed the milk stout and elderflower ESB. I was visiting Fredrick for Thanksgiving 2024 and Idiom Brewery was suggested by one of my friend. The service was great! The guy that poured my beer talked to me about all the beers on tap and gave great advice (I wish I could remember his name). The beer I decided on was a TIPA which was good. The place was a kid friendly place and the brewery allowed outside food. The ambiance had an industrial look to it. Overall, this is a cool place and I'm pretty sure I'll come back. read more

Our absolute favorite brewery! We love the tap selection that is always changing! Idiom just never fails to surprise me with their creativity. Honestly surprised it's taken me this long to write a review. We recently came in on a Monday to have a drink and saw they had, yet again, a new drink we hadn't tried yet: Crunch Time. A take on the crunch berries cereal. Absolute genius! SO DELICIOUS! Tastes like a sour and cereal at the same time, which was so weird and good. Highly recommend if you're into sours or smoothie sours although I don't believe it was a smoothie sour, just a sour? This is the drink that prompted this review, but they have many delicious brews you must try. Extension selection where anyone can find something they would enjoy. The ambience in here is very casual, bartenders are friendly enough, and there is plenty of space inside and outside along the creek, although it does get busy. It can be hard to find seating during peak hours. Oh! They also have food now with their new Expressions opening. We tried the pizza which was surprisingly very good. We got the It's Always Sunny. Perfectly soft, hand tossed crust with lots of flavor. One thing I will say is I wish they had games available to play (jenga, uno, what do you meme, chess, etc.), but we still enjoy it whenever we stop in. read more

This brewery is right in the town of Frederick and has lots of inside seating, two bar spaces, and outdoor seating, right by the river! The staff is super friendly and the vibe is very chill. There are no servers, it's a walk up and order type situation, which led to pretty long lines, but went very quickly! When I went on a Sunday it was pretty packed, but it was probably due to the live band that was playing! There are also dogs permitted inside of this establishment! This is not about the food or beer but a wake up call for the managers and owners. You order your drinks from the bar...cool. You order your food from the app which is ok. But when I go to pay it asks for a tip (standard 20%). They show 15% and other. I hit the 20% and ready to get my food? Nope. They send you a text and you have to get your own food. Then they ask you the clear the darn table once your done! I used to wait tables and busted my rump to get 20%. Old ladies maybe 10%. But I did it with a smile. Management, remove the tip option. It's basically a 20% tax. Treat your customers with respect and give them good customer Service. Hire some wait staff, runners, and host. It's time to stop this nonsense. read more

I usually don't leave reviews i'm not a person that does that unless the food is extraordinary or really bad. When my pizza arrived I immediately knew something was off cus there was mold that i mistaken for sausage bits. The pizza tastes really bad and i was on the phone with wife who was like what's wrong. i said it tasted like spoiled cheese. Boy was i right :/ . I left the pizza out for not even 2-3 hours until it started growing huge chunks of mold on the remaining half. I literally ate half a moldy pizza only because the bread was so good lol. i'll give them points for that. but truly im beyond disappointed. This is my new favorite brewery in the greater DC area for beer. While places like Red Bear have great events, vibes, and games, this place has unrivaled flavors that can't be beat! I first fell for this brewery when I had a can of the beer, Emotional Rollercoaster (the can art is even better than you think btw). I love experimental beers, sours, and bold flavors. This place delivers in all of these areas. I also highly recommend their fruity pebbles flavored beer, Crunch Time, and their pumpkin beers. As an added bonus, the staff here were so nice! Idiom Brewing is located in a cool industrial building right on the creek in Frederick. This visit we tried a variety of drinks, beer and even a frozen drink. All were very good with a great selection and food truck options for eats. It's s fun place to visit for a drink. I've been there several times and each time I have noticed there are a lot of small children running around, once on a Friday night the entire back room was full of kids kind of having a party with coloring books and activities. Love this breawery. It has some size to it so their is plenty of room. They have a good selection of beers. I gravitate toward a Kolsch or Heff. In fact I had one of each on my last visit. My son who is a Bud lite guy said he didnt like craft beer. I had him try the Kolsch and he loved it. He could not beleive how clean the taste was. We had luch at the Food Truck out back and besides it took awhile to prepare the food, good things are worth waiting for. I had the BLT and not only was it huge, it was the best BLT I had in a long time. Staff was courtious and quick. You have to go to the bar for all your drinks and open a TAB. I was visiting Frederick from Baltimore this weekend, mostly to brewery hop, and out of the 6 breweries I went to, Idiom is top 2. First, the place is pretty big, a nice sprawl with multiple entrances on different levels around the building. There was lots of seating, in quite a variety. Regular tables, bar height tables. Despite the place being fairly busy, my group was able to quickly find seating. The decor didn't really stand out to me, but that was fine. I wasn't distracted by my surroundings so I could focus on my beer. Due to Covid, you had to be seated at a table or one of the bars to actually get any beer, which was fine, because as I said, seating was abundant. Also due to Covid, they weren't serving flights, which was unfortunate as flights are low risk, BUT helpful Idiom staff and their beer menu on TVs scattered throughout the space helped me make informed decisions about the beers I wanted. I ended up getting 6oz pours of all the sours available and my most favorite was the Sticky Situation. I should have had more! It was delicious, basically cotton candy flavored with a sour finish. Sooo good! Next trip to Frederick, I'll definitely be stopping by Idiom! read more

Great beer, great patio area, friendly staff, pet friendly. My boyfriend and I stopped here with our pup after hiking and visiting another brewery in the area. The outdoor area is very nice, it's on a creek and is pretty spacious. One thing to keep in mind is that it's a contained outdoor area (you can't bring camping chairs or anything) so you may have to wait for a table, but there were a few available when we went. The beer was pretty good, several options including several IPAs and a few sours/stouts. The offer to go cans and crowlers. There was a band inside and they were open for indoor seating. They also had a food menu with burgers though we didn't get these. I am not totally sure if they had designated parking but we parked on the street with no issues. Staff was very friendly and helped me pick between some of the IPAs plus they were very interested in our dog lol, nice people. Overall, this was a great brewery and I would return! read more

Frederick has some pretty awesome breweries and Idiom is definitely one of them! The menu has a variety of brew styles and you can craft your own flight of 4. They have a TON of indoor seating, as well as outdoor seating when the weather is nice. The day we visited they had a food truck parked out front and some snacks inside for purchase (jerky, chips, etc.). The ladies working here were super sweet! This seasonal veggie burger is made with pumpkin purée, rolled oats, and smashed chickpeas with tzatsiki sauce & red onions. It's Maryland so I had to get their Old Bay Fries @oldbay_seasoning Review: The fries were tasty and delicious. The burger was unique, moist and phenomenally mouthwatering savory goodness. Idiom Brewery had a large wide selection of brewed beverages. It offered a fun, carefree festive atmosphere. Sometimes, to find fun new food one has to be brave and daring. I enjoyed a 6oz "burst your bubble hard Seltzer." The drink was tasty and on the sweet side -- which makes sense as it made with strawberry, açaí and coconut. We were able to grab a table by the canal on a perfect sunny day. The ambiance makes for a perfect lazy afternoon. It is very kid and dog friendly. They have an extensive beer list, something for all tastes. My company enjoyed their scotch ale, I tried an IPA, a coffee stout, and Mexican jalapeño lager. All were delicious. We wore ours as we ordered and then found a table (many!!) outside along the river walk to enjoy our IPAs. While I love IPAs, my husband would prefer a red or pale ale, of which they had none in their list of about 20 options. They had more fruity options and lighter style beverages, but not much in the other categories. Food trucks were around, as none of the breweries have food of their own.
