Since my appointment in Rockville was fast and efficient that I have plenty of time to check out another spot in Frederick. Service great and fast. Baristas are very friendly! Cool and casual environment. Plenty of parking and a good outdoor spot especially on a nice sunny day like today.
What a hidden little gem! Visited during December and the line is still out the door! Pros -has its own parking lot but be careful, some spaces are reserved -physical space has seating, tables, and a few comfy chairs inside. There is a long bar area and also a smaller bar area near the cashier area for seating. The place is warm and cozy, definitely a place where the baristas will start to know your orders. We noticed an outdoor seating area but couldn't see the space fully to know how big it was. -service was friendly and served with smiles -I didn't see a whole lot of food options. Luckily, we came on a Saturday, when waffles are served. -tons of coffee, tea options. And hot cocoa for the kids. They even put whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. My daughter felt very fancy! -waffles were delicious! Fluffy and filling! Kid approved! Cons -possibly a few more food options. I only saw toast and waffles (only on weekends) We had a great experience and would absolutely return again!
Gravel and grind was a great afternoon stop. I got a matcha do about latte. It was great. The flavors were balanced and the matcha tasted good quality. I also went right before closing in the afternoon and it did not taste like the end of the day leftovers. The menu was fun, the location was as far down the Main Street of downtown Frederick that I would want to go, and there was plenty of parking. Perhaps a good starting point to get your coffee and then enjoy a walk through downtown. The concept was also cool, coffee and bikes. Lots of nifty biking gear and perhaps they even sold bikes? I was there for the coffee products, but it would be cool to explore too if biking is your thing.
We tried this coffee shop on a Sunday and it was really cool. I had a cappuccino and it was excellent. I also had a biscotti and a taste of a little stale, but it was still good. I highly recommend this coffee shop. If you were in Frederick. It has a lot of space and it is right off a bike rental shop.
Stopped by Gravel & Grind and in my opinion it has the best coffee in town. When I'm in Frederick, I'd personally walk two miles just to get a cup from here. The coffee is that good. What also makes this place unique is that they offer gravel bike rentals so customers can ride around and enjoy the scenery of Frederick County. Not many coffee shops combine great coffee with outdoor adventure like that. It's also one of my favorite places to meet people when I'm in town because the atmosphere is so cozy and welcoming. Everyone inside always seems friendly, which makes the whole experience even better. If you're visiting Frederick, this is definitely a must stop.
Glowing reviews for G&G. First thing in the AM and they were Bizzay, like line to the door busy 4 min after opening. I ordered their (seasonal) speciality latte (pineapple under the sea) decaf and pesto, mozzarella, blistered tomato, and arugula toast. A latte that didn't have burnt coffee and a perfectly toasty, crunchy toast with perfectly seasoned everything?! YUM Clean clean decor and vibes. I loved the hanging plants and bikes. Service was excellent: the cashier was so friendly and patient with me as I asked what was best to order from the specialty lattes and from the toasts. The barista and employees that prepared my food were also pretty quick with my order. I am Def coming back!!
This coffee shop knows exactly what they're doing. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the decor is cozy, the merch is great, but even better... the coffee is PHENOMENAL. The beans were roasted well and the milk was frothed perfect. The textures and flavors were superb. I had a JC latte by suggestion of the barista which was a chocolatey latte with a delicate orange flavor. Subtle sweetness and perfect flavor blends. We'll be back!
Upon entering the cafe, there was already a line outside the door. That's how popular this place is + it was a Sunday at noon. This place is clean and I love how there is seating inside and outside. Approximately 4-5 tables inside and 4-5 tables outside, not including a looooong table to look outside the window. Basically, there's enough seating! The modern look of most decor or seats being wood gives me a great summer feeling when coming here. Staff were lovely and quick to take my order. My order came out within 8 minutes. Nutella orange blossom toast 6/10 Would I get this again? Maybe if I'm in a chocolate mood. The toast itself was sour which complimented the sweetness of the Nutella. There is a hint of citrus hence the orange blossom part. I thought overall, it was a great snack. The toast was super crunchy but not burnt or anything. Presentation was gorgeous ! Pineapple under the sea iced latte 4/10 Maybe there is a hint of pineapple? But I really couldn't taste it. I can definitely taste the vanilla in this. Regardless, the drink itself is good but it just wasn't what was advertised in my opinion. I would love to give this place another shot and maybe try something different from the menu.
I visited this spot this morning and had a delicious cappuccino! The barista even put a little bunny on it. So I was really hoppy about finding this place. Until I entered the bathroom. And saw the "under" orientation of the toilet paper, which violates the original patent for toilet paper holders from 1891, where the paper clearly goes over the top. The "over" configuration: * prevents the roll from brushing the wall * makes it easier to grab with one hand * reduces accidental unrolling * and, most importantly, does not make decent people feel like they're living in a lawless society. What you have here is bathroom anarchy. I must admit that tile and brushed metal fixtures actually look really nice, which somehow makes the backward roll even more upsetting. It's like a beautifully plated meal served on the floor. Moreover, the ceiling contains approximately 400 judgmental eyes observing you while you attempt to live your life. The wallpaper on the ceiling (on the ceiling!!!) has a pattern based on the "evil eye" motif (sometimes called nazar), which shows up in Mediterranean and Middle Eastern design. Traditionally it's supposed to ward off bad luck or jealousy. All it does in this case is confirm the establishment has abandoned reason and at least one of the people who work has met a psychedelic mushroom. Still, the vibe everywhere else in this place is amazing and the coffees are very very good!
Gravel and Grind is a local shop offering third wave specialty coffee. They have a rotating menu of special seasonal drinks, some coffee based, some not, but I stick to the classics here and usually order a cortado, which they serve with a wafer of locally made chocolate from Chocosombra. The drinks are always delicious, and my wife is a huge fan of their toasts. Service is friendly and kind, and the drinks come out quickly, which is a good thing because in my experience this place is almost always bustling. They also sell bike accessories and have a bike shop in the back. My wife had a tune-up done here and the price was fair and the work was solid. Just an A+ operation all around.
A very cozy cafe in Frederick! The cafe itself is spacious with plenty of seating and a warm feel to it. The staff is very kind and friendly and I always have a pleasant interaction. I appreciate that all of the syrups are house made and my current favorite is the seasonal gingerbread latte. They also offer various sweet as well as savory toasts (gluten free options included). While I'm not local to it, I look forward to going back the next time I'm in town!
Decided to check out this coffee shop while visiting the Frederick farmers market, and what a charming spot! I got a plain iced latte because I wanted to really taste their espresso, and it did not disappoint. It seemed to be a darker roast, which is my favorite. I love the vibe and seating arrangement in the restaurant, and all of the staff were super nice! Would definitely recommend!
It was grey and chilly outside when we stopped at the Gravel & Grind for a late lunch today. Inside it was warm, cozy and inviting. With a variety of seating options including a couch, regular tables, two "counter" seating areas (one against the window), and chill music playing in the background, this coffeehouse/café has a great vibe. We were hoping to have some gluten-free waffles, but waffles are only available until 1pm (and only on the weekend). That's OK, though, because all their "toast" entrees are available on gluten-free bread, and there are some great choices. We had the Lox, Cream Cheese, Capers and Fresh Dill Toast and the Pesto, Mozzarella, and Blistered Tomatoes Toast. Both tasted fresh and delicious. We also had the daily soup special: curry lentil, with ginger and big chunks of carrot and potato - also delicious. The soup was served with toasted (gluten-free) sourdough bread brushed with olive oil (yum). For drinks, I had the CTC (Double Espresso, Horchata, Cinnamon) which does, indeed, taste like cinnamon toast coffee. It was not too sweet and very yummy! On the way out, I got a hot matcha latte to go (because I can't NOT have a matcha latte). It was more (oat) milk than matcha (it was more white than green and I could barely taste the matcha); I would have to ask for an extra scoop of matcha if I were to order matcha latte here again. (If I had realized before leaving, I would have asked for them to "fix" it, and I'm guessing they would have, given how great the service was.) By the way, the "bike shop" is a room in the back which seemed tiny to me. The website may have more bicycle products than are available in-person.

As a first-time visitor from out of town, this spot earned a place on my list of coffee shops that I'd actually love to visit again! The vibe was busy but comfortable at the same time. The busy-ness was a testament to its popularity, yet it was comfy and relaxed because there was a variety of seating areas where one could enjoy their beverage and/or food. Many were reading, listening to personal headphones, chatting with friends. The atmosphere was lively. I loved that the menu had a variety of items on it... Definitely something for everyone. This is one of the few shops that have a delicious cardomom syrup. I actually ended up ordering a second beverage because the first one was so delicious! read more
Gravel and Grind was a super popular place to be this Sunday morning. The atmosphere was clean & cute with a bicycle aesthetic going on. Lots of indoor, outside street view, and outside back patio seating. When I arrived, the line was actually out the door, but I only waited about 10 minutes to place my order and an additional 10 minutes to receive my coffee and food. The coffee itself was actually amazing. I loved the uniqueness of it all and wish I could have tried everything before returning to VA! read more
Really cool coffee shop that also doubles as a bike shop! Free parking and a large amount of seating inside so you can definitely work from here. I tried the Spumoni latte which is chocolate, pistachio, and cherry! It was tasty, the perfect amount of strong and sweet. The baristas were also really nice. And as far as the bikes go, my friend test rode one of the bikes no problem. I'd definitely return next time I'm in Frederick. read more

The coffee spot downtown where the locals go! It's cozy inside, they have everything from pour- over coffees to Quiet Time tea. But the real show stopper, their "magical" toasts!! Nutella and orange blossom fluff- what sorcery is this!? The service is the type that starts your day off with a smile - shout out to Jarem who is giving that Saturday morning energy! read more

Visiting Federick from D.C. for a wedding, quality coffee was on the agenda and Gravel and Grind delivered. Inside a bike shop just off downtown's main street, they have a full coffee menu, including unique lattes and syrups. My cardamom latte was strong, flavorful, and creamy. My seven-year-old daughter loved the hot chocolate with whipped cream. To eat, my daughter had the Nutella toast and I the labneh toast with honey, pistachio, and candied oranges. It was the perfect amount of food for breakfast. Service was friendly and efficient and the space is beautiful with plenty of seats. There's also Wi-Fi. read more

My partner and I are coffee nerds, so we sometimes venture out of our way to try places, and this was one such trip! Gravel and Grind is a bike shop and cafe combo that has fantastic and comfortable vibes. The drink and food selection were perfectly balanced to cover many bases, and my partner and I left wishing that there was a Gravel and Grind closer to us. I had the hot ube latte and their potato soup. I love love loved their take on potato soup! Looking forward to our return! read more

A very cute coffee shop. Plenty of parking in the attached lot, and it's a quick walk to Frederick's main Street. Good coffee and interesting seasonal drinks. Limited baked goods. When crowded, it can be very loud. On a cold day, I'd hoped for a cost, warm coffee shop and was disappointed that it wasn't very warm inside. read more

Great coffee and breakfast! I stopped in for a quick visit on a solo adventure in Frederick. I ordered a drip coffee and the goat cheese jam toast. Staff was super friendly. I thought the coffee was a tad pricey for the size but it was really good! I also really enjoyed the toast. It was really simple but tasty-- gave me an idea to recreate at home! The cafe was busy on a Saturday morning. I easily found a seat at the bar since I was solo but I could see this place being tricky to find a spot for a group during peak time. I didn't walk over to the bike shop side at all but I think the coffee shop/bike shop combo is really unique! read more

I absolutely loved this place! I got the lox and cream cheese toast (which tasted yogurt based so probably house made) and a pesto arugula. Both were so perfectly seasoned and so satisfying to eat. Later on I came back and ordered the iced Ube latte and while I absolutely loved it, it didn't really have any ube flavor. It was still really good tho! Everyone there was super nice and welcoming as well. read more
This place is a gem even for non cycling enthusiasts! We ordered a cold brew and a Caramel Latte. Both were delicious and fairly priced. You gotta love the coffee designs! There is seating inside, as well as, outside! The next time I visit, I will try the food! The staff is friendly, there is plenty of parking and you are just outside of the "busy" part of Frederick! Great for families! #YelpMDburbs read more

Sweet dreams are made of these waffles! Came on a Sunday morning for the first time. It was a little crowded but found a space to sit and catch up with my cousin after a long week. Even though there were 4 ahead of me, it didn't take much time to get my order in. I loved the mugs they have for dining in patrons. Ordered a vanilla latte with skim, it was so creamy and delicious... did I mention it was cold and rainy outside? So this definitely helped to warm my soul. But the highlight of my visit was the waffle with strawberries, blueberries, and whip cream.... Nice crispy outside and soft inside. Seriously, I don't know how any other breakfast carbs will ever be able to match up. It was the perfect way to start the week! read more

So this seems like a great place with a fun vibe if you are into cycling or even just want to enjoy some coffee but not a lot of room for groups that may wander in. The people were friendly but the menu was limited. I will say that the food we got was delicious. read more

As someone with severe Celiac disease, most coffee shops/bake shops are off limits for eating at-however that's not the case at Gravel and Grind in downtown Frederick. I've been coming to this little (not so little anymore!) nook for several years now (since their old location under the antique bridige off of Carroll) and I've always been well takenc care of. The staff is extremely knowledeable and consistently friendly and accomodating. I find some peace & quiet in their comfortable seating arrangements no matter what mood I'm in or what I'm there for. The food is delectable and their baristas are top notch, providing only the most carefully crafted classics or even their own creations (try the Ube Latte- flavored lightly with house-made Ube syrup, Ube being a vanilla-y, nutty purple potato!) Anyways, done simping for my fave coffee spot ;) See you there! In Photo: Soup of the Day (corn and potato chowder) and the Iced Ube Latte read more
