Buyer beware in this shop. These guys are very friendly when it comes to making (overpriced) bike burchases. At first glance the lifetime tune-up sounds like a great deal, however this is their opportunity to nickel and dime you for everything they notice when you bring it in for this "free" service. If the need arises that a new part is necessary, they won't even contact you ahead of time, they will just do the work and expect to be compensated upon surprising you. I can't really comment on what he's had done except to say that I know he's been satisfied with the work there. As for me, I think it's the coolest bike shop I've ever been in and they have a great selection of clothing. Many bike shops have such a limited amount of womens cycling clothing but Bike Doctor has a great selection. There's really a decent selection of whatever you're looking for whether it's accessories, shoes, bars and gels, gloves, etc. The staff is super-friendly and helpful. I've been a customer at bike doctor for a few years. I love the selections they have but for repairs, I will take my business elsewhere. I was told over the phone by one of their associates, the turnaround time for basic maintenance is about a week depending on what it is. When I got there, they changed the time frame to 3 weeks, thanks for the misinformation. I wasn't too happy about that and I just told them to change the ties and the drop bars because they said it was a one day turnaround. After buying two tires from them, I had a flat when the bike was given back to me. They refilled the tire and when I got home it was deflated again. I figured the inner tube had a puncture. I brought it back the wheel next day the associate told me they used the old tube. When the bike the was given to them, the inner tube was fine but now it had a puncture. I was charged again for a new tube and I wasn't too happy about it. Again, something they should of figured this before giving me back my bike. My wife and I each bought a Cannondale Trail series bike from these guys. First off, sales guys gave NO pressure - concerned with fitting, right size and right feel of the bike. Great and comprehensive review of the components, options, variations between models of bikes. Really a great sales experience. We got exactly what we needed, wanted, and spent within our budget. The real deal is the follow up and warranty. I brought my bike in a month later with an issue. At all points the issue was "no problem we will take care of this" type of thing. Ended up being a defect from the factory which was also handled quite well. They gave me a loaner part so I could continue to enjoy the summer riding. These guys really are great. It is how you want to be treated when you walk in a store. They even remembered my name a month later. Just can't say enough about how great all the people are in this shop. read more

I bought a bike off amazon and my father attempted to put together. The company I bought the bike from forgot to provide a manual and what we found online wasnt helpful. We took my bike into the Bike Doctor. The staff here are very personable and nice. They are extremely knowledgeable about bikes and was happy to answer my dad's questions. Turns out the manufacturer sent me a bike with a part that was defective. They were able to provide a new part and install the part at a reasonable price. I've been going to these guys for little things for a little over a year now since I got back into riding. I didn't buy my roadie or my mountain bike here, but they still treat me like one of their own. I'm planning a rather large purchase(for me anyways,$3k range) and I've been really watching each shop I've been to over the last year with my current bikes to get a good fit, bike doctor of Frederick almost lost me, but gained me back 10 fold...here's the story. I do most mechanical work myself on bikes, cars, and motorcycles, but a couple weeks bad I started having trouble with crankset on my GT Zaskar mountain bike, it's just over a year old but I've ridden the wheels off of it. The cranks start creaking while under power, I took them apart, greased everything, put it back together, still creaking. I could have right then saved some money and bought a new set online and been done with it, but I decided to support local and see if it couldn't be fixed by a shop instead of replacing parts, so off to Bike Doctor. They quickly but initially incorrectly diagnosed the issue, replaced the bottom bracket, but was still making noise, this was about a week turn around. I was then told it was actually the cranks, and they would need to be replaced, but that wasn't unexpected, as I said, I've ridden this bike to the moon and back over my time with it. They recommended instead of fighting with the part manufacturer we upgrade and replace it with a better system, which I agreed to, I was consulted and given options all along the way, which was nice. The install was completed in about a week, there was a miscommunication due to an old phone number being listed in their system, but I picked my bike up, here is where the issues in the story are, I got the bike home and threw it on my stand to check everything and noticed that the front derailleur hadn't been touched so I had to adjust it for the new part, this should have been included in the install. I did a 22 mile ride the next day with no issues, I had my first race the following week, luckily I decided to go on a short training ride the day before my race because while on that ride one if the arms on the new crank set fell clear off the spindle. I had to walk the bike out and I headed, pretty heated, right back to bike doctor. I was at bike doctor right as they were opening the day before my race, Brian was there as I walked in, I explained the issue, he jumped on the case immediately and promised to make things right, he immediately offered not only to fix the problem but perform a full pre race tune up on the bike at no charge, he promised the bike back to me in 4 hours or he would set me up with one of their demo bikes for the race at no charge. He didn't stop there right after this exchange I went over looking at new Ergon grips(not cheap) for my bike that I was preparing to purchase, he caught me and the salesman I was working with and insured that they were on the house and would be installed free as well with my tune up. He also made clear to me that he would work with me on my next bike purchase that I explained earlier, so I will certainly be going back. The next morning was my first race, the bike performed FLAWLESSLY, I didn't have a single misshift or hiccup the whole race on a very tough course(quantico) and I placed 4th in my class and I'm hooked, I am already signed up for a bunch more races, road and mountain, including one this Saturday, just 6 days after my first. I will be using bike doctor to keep me and my bikes out on the road and trail going forward. read more

Really a great shop. In fact, Frederick's lucky to have three really good bike shops, Wheel Base and Bicycle Escape are good shops too, but I can only really speak to specifics with Bike Doctor, since I've bought four bikes there- mine, my wife's and the kid's bikes. First, Bike Doctor has a great lineup of bikes. I really like the brands they carry. Specifically, I'm into mountain/trail riding and they carry Salsa, Surly, GT, Cannondale and Trek. After purchasing the bike you get lifetime tuneups, which sure gets you coming back to the shop to eventually buy other stuff, but the free tuneups are actually legit and a great bonus when purchasing your bike. Lots of shops charge around $40 for this same basic service. Finally, and where this shop really shines is the customer service. Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. read more

My wife and I went in Friday night looking for new bicycles for ourselves. We chose Bike Doctor based on rave customer reviews both here and elsewhere on the web. We had been to another bike shop that will remain nameless a year ago when looking for a bike for one of our kids. We left feeling belittled because we didn't want to spend $1000 on a bike that would be outgrown in two years, and we wanted to avoid a similar experience. It has been years since either of us bought a bike and we had a LOT of questions. We were met by a sales associate named Ken. He asked a few questions about what kind of riding we wanted to do and immediately took us to an $850 Trek bike. After resetting expectations and letting him know we hadn't ridden in a long time and were looking to ease into things, he showed us a couple other bikes in the $600-$700 range. When I asked about bikes closer to the $500 range, I was told that it would be tough to find something in that range, yet I found a Cannondale marked $539. When I asked about it I got the "lower quality components" speech and got pushed back towards the more expensive Trek bikes. I know that legit cyclists will think I'm nuts for wanting a "lower end" bike, but we stated up front we're casual riders and most of our riding will be done with our young kids around the neighborhood or on the C&O Canal. Bottom line, I bought the Cannondale, and also found a Trek for my wife for $510, but I had to find them myself. So, after reading that, I'm sure you're wondering why am I giving Bike Doctor four stars. Well, here you go... 1) While I did feel like we were being pushed towards the more expensive Trek bikes, I never felt like Ken was trying to upsell us. More like he was trying to make sure we got bikes that would keep us happy long-term. And he did say to us that he didn't know as much about the Cannondale brand and was very much a fan of Trek. I got the impression that maybe he was a newer associate and I appreciated his honesty. 2) At no time did we feel the least bit pressured to make a decision or make a purchase. When we had questions, Ken was there in a flash, but when we needed time to talk, he gave us our space. Very low pressure experience, which is a huge plus in our book. 3) We asked A LOT of questions, and Ken patiently answered them all. 4) Once we made our decision, Ken let us take the bikes for a test ride in the parking lot. He even offered us helmets for the ride if we wanted them. He sized us, and when we found that the bike my wife chose was actually a little too large for her, he helped us order it in the correct size at no additional cost. (Her bike arrives this week.) 5) Even though they were closing, they took my bike in back and had a mechanic give it a final check before I took it home. 6) They offer free lifetime tuneups! Most other places charge $60 or more for a tuneup. 7) Good selection, good prices, and genuinely nice staff. I've ridden my bike twice since Friday. Short rides, total of maybe 5 miles. Have to say, it's perfect for me and the riding I plan on doing. Couldn't be happier. So, overall, we had a good experience. The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star review was feeling a little pushed towards more bike than we need at this point, and that we had to find the bikes we ended up with on our own. But based on the overall experience, I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a bike! I know we'll keep going back. read more

I moved from the Chicago area to DC recently and I have yet to find a local bike shop with impeccable mechanical service. I wanted to get some hillier rides this past weekend and reached out to this shop. James was extremely helpful and sent me a nice route. I stopped in for a visit and had some nagging shifting issues fixed. They also worked on my brakes and attended to an issue I had not mentioned (which I had mentioned in a different shop but told it was not a problem). I will be back for service, even though it is almost a one hour drive -- it will be worth when it comes to a good tune up. The store is actually big and nicely laid out. Very friendly staff. Not only did I purchase my bike from them based on the feedback I mentioned in my first review, but over the course of the last year, I continue to go back for various "little" things here and there. Sometimes I go in, just to waste my own time while I'm waiting for something else, and they never complain. Another example is their snack foods. I often buy nutrition bars from them to keep with me during rides, or to munch on before a spin class. They always meticulously check expiration dates and if it's within a couple of days of expiration, they have just given it to me. For that, I throw in some more and buy the equal amount anyway, as an appreciative THANK YOU!! Stores that invoke a friendship are truly hard to find, and these guys definitely know what they are doing. KEEP IT UP!! read more

I purchased a Bontrager Saddle after I was told by the salesperson that I had 30 days to return the saddle. No mention was made of any other return policies. I returned the saddle 30 days later expecting a refund of the money. I was told that while Bontrager has a 30 day return policy, that, as listed on the receipt, Bike Doctor had only a 2 week period where they would return the money and that I would be given a store credit. I responded that since I was told by the sales clerk that I would receive a refund, that I should not be expected to read the sales receipt and that I should be given the refund. He would not, instead, he gave me the credit. I will not go back to this store other than to spend the $130 credited to my account. There are two other bike stores in the area that will get my business. read more

This is posted on multiple review websites, sorry for duplication but I just had such a great experience at the Bike Doctor that I felt I had to share. I just got my bike back after a tune up, brake pad replacement, chain and cassette replacement, and front wheel hub ball bearing fix. They did a fantastic job with everything and unlike some shops I've been to in Philadelphia (where I now live) they didn't overcharge me for parts. They were friendly bike enthusiasts. I'm particularly thrilled with the front wheel. The front wheel wobbled horribly and I actually spent about $30 to have a bike shop in Philly check it out and I'm certain they did nothing at all. It still wobbled unevenly on its axle. Bike Doctor fixed it perfectly (smooth rotation now). I'd consider moving back to Frederick for these guys alone. Thank you! read more

I am in the market for a new bike and seeing as I have no real experience on a bike, I really wanted to talk to someone who would be patient with me as I asked a lot of questions. I bought brand new Infinity Boss Three bike from a nearby Costco on April 6, 2018. Called Bike Doctor for a quote. They said they will put it together for $90. Drove there, spoke with one of the sales reps, who took my bike and provided me with the receipt stating that it would be ready for pick up no later than on April 18, 2018 by 6:00pm. I was a bit disappointed by such a long wait period, provided this is a brand new bike which just came off the box. Manual of the bike specifically states that it was already pre-assembled and tuned in the factory before they took it apart and placed in box to ship to the retailed. So, it shouldn't require an extensive labor, time and skill to just put the pedals, wheels and few bolts together. Nevertheless, I agreed to leave the bike with them and before leaving the store spoke with the owner. Owner smiled t me and said they put such a long deadline to make sure they never finish it past it. He assured me that usually it takes less than that, and then stated that he will try to get it done no later than by the end of the next week, which would be by April 15, 2018. I called the bike shop twice, around April 15, 2015 and just yesterday. On both instances M. (a store employee) picked up the phone, spoke with me in condescending tone and advised me that since my ticket had 6:00pm April 18, 2018 deadline then that is when I should expect to be called and texted. I was frustrated, but what could I say? Regardless of what owner told me in a personal conversation, I had a receipt which stated that I agreed to pay $90 and wait through 6:00pm April 18, 2018. I was sure they would call me or text me before 6:00 pm today and patiently waited past six (they close at 7:00pm). However, I decided to call around 6:30pm to find out what happened to my order. Again,the same employee named M. picked up the phone, placed me on hold and told me my bike is nbot ready and wouldn't be ready until tomorrow because they were busy and working on other bikes. Each time I spoke with M. I asked for owner, but he told me the owner was not there. I told him today that I was very patient and waited for 12 days for them to put my bike together, but now I needed an explanation WHY they still didn't touch my bike. He didn't have any explanation but, worst of all, didn't even try to own up to their fault and offer any apologies for never completing the order. Instead, he hang up on me. I called the second time and and hung up again. At this point I was clearly frustrated, I went to the bike shop and asked him why he hung up on me. At that point he walked to the back, said "I will get your bike to you", ordered me to leave the store and brought the bike outside. I did comply with his request to leave a store, it's private property and I am not going to stay there if ordered to leave. But I felt something is wrong about this whole experience. I have read the 5 star yelp reviews and I saw a lot of happy customers walking out there, so I think the real reason why they put my order on the back of the shop and never touched could be my appearance. I do not look local, I have foreign accent and judging how eager they were to serve all the local customers I came to conclusion that they may have mistreated my order solely because they didn't like my racial features and appearance. I left the store to never return there again. If you need a bike shop which cares and doesn't judge customers by appearances stay away from the Bike Doctors. read more

The guys (and gals) and the bike shop are just the best! It is so hard to find good customer service, and these guys really put their heart into making their customers happy. I went in looking for a cheap road bike, and they gave me so much attention, answered all my questions, gave me tons of tips, and invited me on their group bike rides. After enjoying my road bike for a few months, I decided I wanted to do a custom build with them. James was so helpful and was always available to answer my questions through the whole process. He helped me find EVERY pink bike part ever made!!! I love the Bike Doctor because they treat everyone as a valued customer, whether you are coming in to choose an energy bar or buy a top of the line bike. A friend of mine recommended this bike shop to me, and frankly I didn't expect much. After going in I talked to Brian the owner. I was looking to upgrade my current mountain bike to something nicer and had saved up some money for one. He fitted me before he even knew what bike I was buying. It was very thorough, and I had gotten a bike that was too small for me last time, so I started feeling really good about buying my bike here. He didn't have anything in stock for me, so he called his cannondale rep. And got me a scalpel carbon 1 for a very fair price. He asked me if there was anything I wanted them to add to my bike when they built it, and they put my upgraded grips on and my old pedals on for me. Also, since he had measured me so thoroughly he put the correct stem on my bike for my height, the shocks were adjusted perfectly and the seat post was in the perfect hieght when I went in to pick up the bike......seriously it was like magic and the bike was built for me the second I picked it up. Everyone was so very nice truly loved riding you could tell. I just wished they were closer to me. read more
