After paying for a full tune up the adjustment to the front hydraulic brake was poorly done. I did mention it to one of the techs and he remarked it was adjusted properly. The rear hydraulic brake was fine. I could actually feel the front pads and calipers rubbing together when the brake lever was not depressed. Took to another shop where the tech stripped the screws to bleed the fluid, so it had to be replaced at a cost of $98. Those brakes failed. All the problem started with this shop and they would not address my concerns. Downgrading my review. read more

Such a horrible shop. Stay far away. I purchased a 6k dollar bike third party(not from this shop). However, The seller chose this bike as the packer and shipper of the bike. It started off well, I spoke to a gentleman named Brian on 8/9 minutes after the shop opened for business. He assured me that they would ship and pack the bike and take care of me. He stated the bike would go out that day safe and quick. After hearing this I agreed to use this shop, the seller of the bike took off from work and went down to the shop within an hour of me speaking to Brian. Here is where it went sideways. I paid the seller after speaking with Brian and hearing my bike would ship out. 2 hours later Brian calls me and says the bike will now go out 8/10 or 8/11. I already paid so I had no way of backing out. Well....my 6k dollar bike went out the evening of 8/12 and didn't actually ship until 8/13. I got 0 apology and when I called I was actually snapped at talked to very rude. Here is where it's turns into a nightmare. I paid $80 to have this bike professionally shipped and sent on 8/9. It took 4 days and it finally went out. So this was the first red flag. I was told it would go out same day at first; then it goes out 4 days later. When I received the bike I was in complete shock. The bike was put in a bike box with the front wheel zip tied to the frame and the handle bars taken off. 0 packaging materials in the box. 0 care for the bike. Literally a 10 minute package job for $80 on a 6k dollar bike. I have shipped 5 6k+ Bikes and never seen anything like this. The front wheel was zip tied to the frame!!!!!! A carbon fiber 6k dollar bike. The front rotor completely destroyed the rear triangle to the point the carbon strands were damaged. Now I am stuck opening a PayPal claim to get my money back and send the bike back to the owner. I have to pay $150 and hope PayPal takes care of this. I questioned leaving a review, but I left this review because I received a phone call today...I was expecting an apology and for them to own the issue and offer to pay to ship the bike back, however, all they said is they need the serial number off the bike to help the seller. This review applies to all locations! Best mechanics; thoughtful and knowledgeable employees and fantastic service! As a woman cyclist, I have never felt so welcomed and understood. There is no gender bias here! How refreshing. These bike shops take you seriously an you can tell these guys love; live and breath bikes. I have never felt ripped off or taken advantage of. They genuinely want to help and get you riding. Lastly, they sell some of the most legit bike brands at great price points: Specialized; Rocky Mountain...I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

I was called today about a bike that I have been waiting for since December. I was told that the bike was being put together and it would be ready in an hour. I told them I would be there shortly. I arrived about 45 minutes to an hour later to find that they were already selling the bike to someone else. Mind you that I drove to a different location that was about 25 miles away to see this bike. It was very disappointing the way this was handled and I think it was very poor judgement by the sales associate. Why did they call me in the 1st place? Why make me waste my time? Looks like a very nice bike shop but I will not be returning in the future. Bought some fresh new tires and a few other upgrades for my bike and was satisfied with the service. The people who work here are knowledgable and super friendly. So here's the deal. I decide to buy a new mountain bike as I've put a lot of hard mileage on my 11 year old Specialized Epic. I do my research and settle upon a few bikes. While canvassing local bike shops I stumble upon Patapsco Bike & Sport in Mt. Airy, MD. There I ride some great bikes without any pressure from the shop staff. Nothing more annoying than unsolicited sales pitches. Eventually, at Tim's recommendation I demo a Pivot and it's love at first ride! I drop the cash and pick my dream bike up a few weeks later. Then disaster strikes! On my third ride, a group ride with friends, we get about 50 yards into the trail and as I shift gears on a relatively flat section - KABAM! The rear wheel locks up and sends me into the grass for a soft landing, luckily. We all look around. No rocks, no twigs, nothing. The rear derailleur exploded, tore up a few spokes, knocked the wheel out of true and scratched the carbon that holds the rear dropout. I become red with fury! I feel duped! I reached out of my comfort zone, ie. budget, for my dream bike and on it's third ride in less than three weeks it fails me. How could a bike that I hadn't dropped, dinged or anything and generally been treating as gingerly as a newborn have exploded in such a blaze of disappointment? I carry the bike back up to Patapsco Bike and Sport and it seems like everyone in the shop is looking on in disbelief and skepticism. They make no promises except to do their best to make it right - and they do! A few days later I get a call from Tim at the shop to keep me in the loop and he tells me that between Pivot and Patapsco B&S they are going to make things whole. I picked the bike up yesterday with a new rear triangle, rear derailleur and spokes and fly over to the trail and find nirvana again! Thank you Tim, Keith and everyone at Patapsco Bike & Sport! If you are passionate about biking and your bikes, you'd be crazy if you didn't take a trip to Mt. Airy before buying or servicing your bike! The crew is GREAT! read more

I was in the market for a FS 29er and wanted to demo several bikes, one of which was the Pivot 429 Trail. Candidly, I was reluctant to consider Patapsco Bicycles given their proximity to where I live. However, after speaking with Donald on several occasions--it became apparent he was both extremely knowledgeable and a true professional in the business. This was even more evident when it came time to demo the bike. Donald allowed me to ride the owner's personal bike--and not around the parking lot like many bike shops expect. Instead, his manager Eric was nice enough to meet me at the Black Hills West trailhead on his day off. Eric literally dialed the bike in to my specifications in the parking lot--and we then rode the entire trail together. After test riding bikes from Santa Cruz, Intense, and Trek--it took one ride on the Pivot to decide this was the bike for me. The exceptional level of service provided by Patapsco Bicycles made purchasing the bike through them a no brainer. Great local bike shop! Very personable and the service is well above average. I come to Patapsco Bikes with my mountain bike set up questions and what I can do to improve my ride experience. The staff always gives me helpful feed back and will often spend the time to help me adjust my mountain bike on the spot. They work to make sure I get a good deal on any items I purchase and I never feel like I'm being pressured into making a purchase that I don't need. In fact its quite the opposite. They will do what ever they can to make sure I walk out not spending more than I need. The other day I walked in and I suggested I swap out my tires for new ones; however, they encouraged me to give the tires I had another chance before I put down the money. They could have easily made the extra cash, but that's not the kind of people they are. I highly recommend this bike shop for riders of all skill levels. *Side note: If you are looking to get into the Maryland bike scene (mountain or road), this shop seems to be well connected with all of the local rides and events going on in the area. read more

These guys are the best! Don't know any names. They all are amazing!! I had repairs done on my Ellsworth bike I bought used, I'm not much of a biker, but knew right away this place was like home. They know everything about bikes! No snobbery here! And when I paid the bill it was cheap and thoroughly assembled. They tolerated all my stupid questions when I dropped it off, and were glad to see me when I came to pick it up! If I buy anything for a bike, this is the only place I'll get it! Several shops in Rockville told me I need to upgrade to more modern bike and asked that I not attempt to repair. These guys told me what to fix, what doesn't matter, and.....ordered the parts for me. I tried to pay more for the incredible service! They refused! This is the only shop for me!!! Ever! Go to Patapsaco cycle! See what I mean! Children! Old folks! Serious biker or novice!
