My husband and I were on a road trip with our dog and stopped here for the Crab Dip & a beer. I got the Grapefruit Goddess and he got the Double XPA Weekend. Both beers were very good and refreshing in the heat. We also got the crab dip bowl that they make using their own pizza dough.. maaaan it was so freaking good that we ate the whole thing in record timing. We literally scraped the plate clean and licked the spoon before finishing our beers. It was super cheesy and the top/crust had theeeee perfect char. They didn't skimp out on the crab either. I'll definitely be thinking about that dip with fondness for a long time. The people there were very friendly and I just love the name (acronym for Random Acts of Kindness). Plenty of seating on their outside patio, which is dog friendly. Too bad we aren't locals! I'd be a regular here for sure. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after hosting my husband's 50th birthday celebration at RAK Brewing in Frederick, I feel compelled to share our experience. We brought a group of approximately 50 guests and spent the entire afternoon and evening there, from 2 p.m. until closing. Given the size of our group, I estimate we spent well over $2,000 on food and drinks. The brewery was relatively quiet when we arrived, and our party filled much of the venue. Unfortunately, we encountered several issues that made what should have been a special celebration feel unwelcome. When we arrived, children were allowed up to a belt divider separating one area of the brewery. Shortly after our group arrived, the divider was removed and we were told that the children--even well-behaved kids around 12 and 13 years old--had to move to a completely different area. This split our group apart despite there being plenty of available space. A couple of hours later, we were told that we could not use our own insulated tumblers to keep our purchased beers cold. This included the birthday guest himself. What made this especially frustrating was that we observed other patrons using tumblers without being asked to stop. The final disappointment came during the birthday celebration. We brought a cake and a sparkler candle. The manager, who I believe was Derrick Erwee, informed us that it was a fire hazard and could not be used. While I understand safety concerns, no alternative was offered, meaning my husband didn't even get the chance to blow out a birthday candle on his 50th birthday. I then asked if our group, including the children, could come together briefly for a photo and to sing Happy Birthday for just a minute or two. The request was denied. This was particularly disappointing given that a storm was happening outside and our group made up a large portion of the customers in the brewery at the time. I spoke directly with the manager to explain how these decisions were affecting our celebration, but he showed little interest in finding a reasonable accommodation or demonstrating basic customer service. I want to be clear that the bartenders were friendly and professional throughout the event. They were not the issue. However, the overall management experience left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed. After investing significant time, money, and effort into planning such an important milestone celebration, I sincerely wish I had chosen another venue. Based on our experience, I would not recommend RAK Brewing for family gatherings, large group events, milestone celebrations, or anyone expecting a customer-focused experience. I am never coming back, nor my 50 guests. read more

A really great spot, especially if coming with kids. Not gonna lie, I was a little confused by the place when we arrived. We had tired kids and somehow missed the sign that suggested we needed to check in with the front desk. With that said, our server was so incredibly friendly. We ended up ordering initially off the app. Our table didn't have a QR code, but I ended up taking a menu from a nearby table and ordered a few dishes. The food I got was all tasty, including the meatballs, chicken tikka masala pizza, cheeseburger, and macaroni and cheese. The beer is what brings people here, but the wine wasn't terrible. My partner is not a beer person but did enjoy the red wine that I ordered for him. As far as entertaining the kids, they offered a lot of good inside game options including corn hole, connect four, a gigantic jenga (that the kids totally loved), and a sliding puck game. They also have bocce ball leagues during the week. This is a really fun spot. The kids loved it, and it was a nice way to break up our trip back to DC. It isn't in the cute, historic part of Frederick, but it's an easy destination with plenty of parking! read more

Amazing and creative beer and food next to the Frederick MARC Station when we decided to stay a night in Frederick after my job interview in the area. They have various areas and games you can play. Since it was Monday night it was limited to one area that was still spacious and popular. We loved all the beer and soda cocktail we tried as well as the hot dog pastry and pickled pizza we ate. Our favorite of the beers was the apple butter one we took home a four pack of. It is a ways out from us in Silver Spring. However would love to go back and for them to either put a taproom closer to us and/or ideally but unrealistically run regular MARC service out here as my wife and I do not drive. read more

RAK is an incredible space, but there's some things you should know in advance. If you come here on a rainy weekend, you can expect a crowd, including children. They have two large spaces that are connected by a small hallway/ bathrooms. The lounge area is laid-back and adult-friendly. In contrast, the other space is essentially a sports bar + game room meets Chuck E. Cheese? Or maybe that was just the rainy Sunday afternoon that I visited. The offer bar games, including three dart lanes. There's a waiver to sign, and you can do it online, though I'll mention that no one asked for confirmation that we completed the waiver. Beer selection is good and the bartenders were helpful, if not a little overwhelmed. However, the lounge was basically empty, which was awesome for two kid-less adults looking for some beer and food. Speaking of food: Pizza Hotdog. Can you dig it? Very interesting concept, obviously a huge hit for the locals. I understand the lounge is not always open, so I might be hesitant to sit in the other loud/ crowded space during peak times. It's a really nice space for a private event. Beers are good. Family friendly. It's not everyone's cup of tea (or pint of beer?), but I like what they're doing. read more

When you wanna take your boss or your bougie friends out for beer, this is where you go. The bar areas feels very art deco chic when you sit there, but fits in the space overall. I like that they've carved out a niche space for yard games like bocce, connect four, darts, and cornhole, which makes it ideal for dates or introducing new friends to your crew or corporate retreats. The space is bright and inviting. As for beers, I would highly recommend the Taste the Biscuit. It is very unique and has a sweetness at the end that makes it feel like dessert but not too much so like other beers that try to be sweet. A plus is that it is made with local honey! I also think that the RAK Lite would be a great 6 pack to bring to a party - your friends will appreciate it! We didn't get to try the food, but DOP pizza is local vendor in the spot. Stopped by RAK Brewing Co. in Frederick and it was a great experience. Their drinks are really good and the atmosphere makes it an easy place to spend a few hours. What stood out to me personally is how understanding and respectful they are toward Deaf people, which makes sense since it's located near Maryland School for the Deaf. That meant a lot to me. The space is huge and very open, easily fitting around 200 people, which isn't something you find at many breweries. There are also plenty of activities like darts, cornhole, and a gaming area, so even people who don't drink can still have fun. It's also kid friendly, which makes it great for groups and families. We actually held our camp staff party here and everything went really well. Definitely a fun and welcoming spot in Frederick. read more

They also have the Rak Yard that is turfed for games, Cornhole, connect 4, shuffleboard and more. Lots of staff. You can order off QR or in person. I'd read up on RAK because it was dog friendly and had a good looking menu, so we came here with 2 dogs and had a lovely time outside! The staff were very friendly, helpful and attentive. The beer list had some good options but the pizza from dop was the winner. You have to try the pickle pizza - it was delicious!! Pepperoni was traditional but still tasty. I did like the wings but personal preference I would get a side of ranch instead of honey mustard to go with the old bay. I will definitely be back! My wife and I had a miserable time at RAK Brewing yesterday. The cold, aloof bartender barely acknowledged us despite it not being crowded. He seemed much more interested in using his cell phone. We had a flight of mostly unimpressive beers. Lowlights included the murky Mexican chocolate imperial stout with a harsh raw cinnamon burn and a flat Czech lager. One of the only breweries in my cross country travels that don't offer half pours or flights. I find this to be a safety issue when it's not offered as it feels like a money grab. Brewery was not busy so I don't buy that excuse. Traveled from out of state to visit but won't be back for this reason. Road-tripping out to Frederick, we picked RAK as a pitstop hangout because the IPA descriptions sounded unique and exciting and they totally lived up to the hype! Crisp, flavorful, and packed with character, exactly what we were hoping for. Prices were pretty average, and while the glassware was a little unconventional (stemless snifters, maybe?), the beer was good enough that we didn't mind one bit. We had hoped to check out "The Yard" for the kids. We signed the waivers and were told to check in, but no one ever showed up to actually get us in. The bartender was polite but firm that we couldn't just wander over, so we made our way to the outdoor patio instead. It turned out to be a great little spot (quiet, tucked off a back road and perfect for relaxing with a pint) If we didn't have more road ahead, we definitely would've grabbed some beer to go. Im always looking for different breweries to try in Frederick. Last time we came out there RAK was having a private event, so we decided to come check it out on a Saturday afternoon. They had just recently opened their extension, but we didn't notice until after we sat and ordered food. Ill definitely go back to check the other side out. I tried a few beers and the seltzer and just was not a fan. The pizza we ordered included ham, jalapeños and drizzled honey. It wasn't what I expected, but we ate it. There were a lot of kids present that day, which made it pretty loud and chaotic in three lounge area. But I can see how this is a good option for families and parents with young kids. Overall, the service was good, they had lots of beer options, but I just couldn't find one that I liked. I definitely plan to return and check out the yard side. One of the newer breweries in Frederick but their beer game is absolutely on point. Each time I go there I get to try something different they have a large selection of great IPAs and fantastic sours (I'm really picky about my sours). The service is always great form their staff and always friendly. The inside is a bit different and kind of reminds me of a 70s lounge in a hotel lobby. They have recently added a huge area that they've been working on for a while as well as adding the pizza on the inside (which is also very good). This first thing you notice about this place is the clean decor. At first I thought I entered a hotel lobby. But the lighting, ambiance, clean lines really lends to a trendy and relaxed atmosphere. The beer is a hit or miss though. Some were overly sweet and some were really good. I recommend getting a flight first to test it out. If no one told me the name of the place I would assume it was a wine and cocktail type of place rather than a brewery. The outside isn't much and the vicinity isn't safe looking, but the inside shines. It's more of a place to take someone on a date and have a nice chat over some beer. The seating is spaced out and you can have a great chat with someone without being interrupted by people around you. I can see myself coming back for the atmosphere. read more

My husband and I booked RAK for our rehearsal dinner and it was one of the best choices we made during the entire planning process. They have a wide variety of drinks on their menu (beer, wine, cocktails, etc.) and the pizza from dōp is some of the best I've ever had (plus they have dessert pizza!). The location is also great if you or your guests are staying in Frederick. It is right next to Frederick's Carroll Creek Park and has plenty of parking for guests who drive. The best part was how friendly and sweet the staff were. If you are looking for a great space to host a party, rehearsal dinner, wedding, etc., we could not recommend RAK highly enough. read more

My husband and I love coming here! The atmosphere gives classy beer drinker which I love. This is a place I would bring someone visiting from out of town. They have a decent selection on tap, with a few selections that are always rotating. I think they have a little something for everyone. Although they do not offer a large selection, what they do offer is very tasty. The service here is always great. Even after you seat yourself, the bartenders still come around and check on you to make sure you don't want or need anything else. There is one particular person, Jaime, who's left a great impression on us. Every time we've been in (about 4-5 times now), he's always very friendly, attentive, and has great drink recommendations. Owners Joe Gatewood and Steve McIntyre opened RAK Brewing with a mission statement to serve beer with kindness. They opened the doors to RAK in December of 2023 and have been a downtown staple since. The ambiance they created is state-of-the-art. Completely renovated from top to bottom, including upgrades to the bathrooms and their outdoor space--both appreciated. Do NOT forget to check out their patio. RAK hosts weekly trivia on Wednesdays at 7:00 PM and has live music every Thursday (6:00 PM) and Sunday (2:00 PM). Newish brewery located near Atta Boy. Large selection of beers ranging from 10% sweet milk stouts to sours and seltzer. Nonalcoholic options available. I had a stout heavy flight, while others in the group had a mixture of IPAs and sours. The bar staff were attentive and helpful. The band was a fun romp through 1972. RAK rocks! #1 - great service and guidance in the taproom when I asked about IPAs on my way to a meeting in Frederick. #2 - I had a small error on my bill and they went out of their way to make things right immediately when I called them up. #3 - GREAT IPAs - Kohia's Calling and Riwaka Flake Flame are both delicious.
