We visited Flying Dog on a Saturday afternoon after finding their location nearby while searching Yelp. It is important for visitors to realize this is a taproom and merchandise store and not a brewpub. This is not a negative point, just an informational item. The taproom has indoor seating and communal tables in addition to the bar area. On this visit it was PACKED! All available seating and standing tables were taken. Even though it was crowded we were still able to get prompt service at the bar for beverages. Due to the crowdedness we moved outside (yes it was very cold). On the large outdoor patio, they have picnic tables and high tops. Adirondack chairs are set around three fire rings offering a relaxed place for friends. On this day, the fires did little more than smolder due to the wetness of the wood (but its rained non-stop for months so not surprising). Around the patio were several portable heating stations, which looked nice, but unfortunately put out very little heat. I guess I could say this was my one complaint. Investing in strong heaters outside can extend the patio season and increase space for guest. There is a food truck at FD putting out incredible dishes. We are still talking about the specialty French fries topped with the best crab dip!! Amazing. The beer is solid at FD and they offer quite a variety for everyone and several unique brews also. The Dogtober fest (October fest) was very good, as were several of the IPAs. I will definitely return to FD, in warmer weather, because it offers good beer in a relaxing environment.

Came here for a tour and to try some of the brews in the tap room. The tour did not disappoint! Booking the tour was really easy, did it online a week in advance. I like how organized it was and how they incorporated the drinking into the tour itself. The tour was funny, informative and most of all really fun. The tap room was really busy but the outside area offers a lot of space for guest to eat and lounge. The beers are really great, I liked the tap room exclusives. Really awesome visit for sure!

I absolutely love the tasting room here, the tours, everything. TOUR - You should register for the tour online ahead of time because they "sell out" (in quotes since it's actually free) The tour is educational in a fun way and I didn't mind the candid manor of the guide. Afterwards we did get a free sample before we made our way to the tasting room. TASTING ROOM - It's so super convenient when I come to buy a 6 pack and not really sure what I want to get, so they give you samples to make your decision. But you can also do flights, pints, etc. Plenty of seating and space. There's also a nice outdoor area for when it's nice. I noticed someone complained that you can't bring your kids, which makes me like this place even more. I go to breweries to get away from your little angels. Love this rule.

Awesome brewery and tour! Flying Dog has been on my list of places to visit since moving to Maryland years ago-- after our recent tour, I highly recommend if you're into local, craft beers! The tours are offered on a timed basis and reservations should be made in advance (especially if you're with a larger group). The tour was informative and we were able to sample a few brews along the way. The tasting room looks large, but definitely fills up quickly! Not the most ideal place to enjoy a tasting sampler when crowded; there is a large, dog friendly, outdoor patio with plenty of seating (weather permitting). I was glad we visited over Labor Day Weekend-- they just brought back the Dogtoberfest and The Fear (imperial pumpkin ale). Added Bonus: The Fear is available on nitro in the tap room! Yessssss!

Flying Dog actually really surprised me - in a good way! I thought the place would be much smaller for some reason but it actually has a really nice bar & seating area inside as well as a spacious outside seating area equipped with corn hole boards, other games, and a food truck! I had a flight of the cherry sour, pineapple sour, Oktoberfest, and a pale ale and I fell in love! All of the beers on tap were amazing and their menu is huge- so many to choose from for all different tastes and preferences of beer! It was also nice that the food truck was there because it's hard not to get hungry while drinking (lol). The staff were also very friendly and the music played was really fun. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because someone in my group couldn't drink or eat anything because there were no allergen friendly options. I recommend that they add a few of those to the menu to encourage even more people to go there. Personally, I will DEFINITELY be back!

What a lively fun atmosphere, combine that with quality beers and it's just a good time. Came here on a Saturday afternoon. It was busy but the bartenders gave great service and took the time to explain their products. When you first walk in through their gift shop, it opens up to the bar area. It's roomy with a few couches, and bar stools that line the windows. Great place to come with groups yet the noise level doesn't intensify like some venues. As for food, there is a food truck outside of their property and plenty of outdoor seating. Their tasting carts were easy to carry and you can choose which beers you would like to sample on the paper provided. As for location, it's ideal if you live in the area but for us it's not too convenient. So maybe again if we're doing battlefield tours...

I am a big Flying Dog drinker and I finally got a chance to go out to the brewery. I was a little bummed that they don't offer tours on Saturdays, so BF and I just visited for some drinks. It's in a really random location-- kind of in the middle of a bunch of corporate offices/warehouses, but it's very obvious where it is when you get there. They have a large patio outside with a ton of outdoor seating. It was all filled outside when we got there because it was a beautiful day! When you get inside they check your ID and then you're off to the races. Flights are SO cheap! $7 for a flight of 4 and you can choose whatever. We sat inside but there was a nice big bright window next to us, so it was still awesome. They don't sell food, but they had a restaurant who had set up a tent selling food. I always saw some people bringing in food so it seems like you can bring your own with you. I wish this brewery was closer, because I would love to go more often!! Love Flying Dog beer!

Being a furlough government employee Flying Dog made sure to hook us up with free factory tours. My husband and I made our way up here for a 1pm tour on a Saturday. Same day of the tour flying dog had a festival to honor their local vendors. The tour was very informative of giving the history of flying dog and how their beer is made. I found it interesting that employees were working hard on a Saturday brewing some delicious beer. After the tour we were suppose to get free samples from the taproom. The taproom was closed because of the festival so we were given tokens to get 2 beers. I enjoyed some of the freshest premium tasting beer. They even had a flavor combo of habanero and raging bitch beer. It was good with a nice spicy kick at the end.

I loved visiting this brewery. I see their beers often in the DC area but was surprised the brewery is so close in Frederick (still about a 45 minute drive from the city). Of course great tasting beers, and this location has a great taproom to sit down and try flights, listen to music, etc. They have a food truck outside, otherwise the food options in the immediate area are a bit limited (there is a big strip mall / complex about 3 minutes drive away). Dogs allowed in their patio outside.

I've been drinking Flying Dog beers and Ales for years now - but had never visited the actual brewery. I was in Frederick, MD one day and found out I was about 2 miles from the brewery - so I had to stop in for a visit and tasting! The place was hopping when I arrived on a Friday afternoon! Lots of folks visiting, some taking the tour, and of course tasting! I intentionally selected Ales I've never had before - so I opted to taste the following Ales: - Bloodline Blood Orange Ale (7.0% ABV) - Gourd Standard Pumpkin IPA (6.7% ABV) - Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale (9.0% ABV) - Single Hop Apollo Imperial IPA (10.0% ABV) - Double Dead Rise Crab Ale (8.0% ABV) The first four were either IPAs or related to an IPA hop-wise. All the Ales were delicious! Full of flavor and well-balanced. Not your father's Ale! After the flight of four, I noticed the Double Dead Rise Crab Ale - I've had the regular Dead Rise Crab Ale (actually paired with crabs at a crab feast) and enjoyed it. So I was curious to know what makes this Ale "Double." The staff talked about the additional Old Bay Hot added to the Ale - so I had to try it. The Ale did not come off to me as to hot - but it was damn tasty! The staff was in a jovial mood and spent some time bantering with me during my tasting. My only complaint was that I could not get on their public WiFi network - even though the staff provided the password Great brewery! I will be back! Highly recommended!

Our guide at the Sumo De Mayo Event. Great tour !!

We came here for their Sumo De Mayo Event. This event was super fun! Beer - Very Good! Sour Cherry Ale was very good!! I loved that. Oyster Stout was also very good. Beer Tour - Great tour. They tell you about all the history and how they make their beer. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I really recommend going to this brewery for a standard beer tour!!

We tried to take advantage of this town called Frederick, MD, so as soon as we arrived we started hitting their famous brewery, Flying Dog. We managed to get the last 4 spots for 530pm tour on the Friday night. No spots were available on the weekend. The tour group was pretty small with about a dozen of people. It was fun to learn the story about the brewery and the process of making beer. The tour took about half an hour, and we've got to try their new flavor, Mint Julep, as well. The best part is the beer flight where you can pick any four of their beer for $7. There are dozens of beer selection you can pick from their taps. My favorite ones are Rum Barrel-Aged Imperial Porter, Cold Press Coffee Porter and Aronia Berry. Food was great as well. I think we ordered Duck Rolls or something. I was a little tipsy by that time. Also don't forget to grab some six packs on your way out.

Flying Dog, you've never steered us wrong! I'm so glad my boyfriend and I ventured here for the Beer Geek Tour on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't crowded and we arrived early, so I enjoyed a glass of Kujo before we got started. (If you drink black coffee like I do, this might be the beer for you!) So the tour started with an amazing sip of Family Drama! As we moved throughout the facility, our tour guy/instructor, gave us all the ins and outs of how they craft their amazing beer. We got to try some super rare beers and connect with some other beer lovers from all across Maryland. We'll definitely be back to take some more classes from them! This beer tour was hopefully the first of many!

Hahahaha- feedback box with humor. Glad my friend pointed this sign out to me. Love this place!

Ask the Community - Flying Dog Brewery

Is dinner served here as well, or just drinks?

They have snacks on the menu. There's also a food truck out front.

Going to a concert there for the first time this summer. Any tips or tricks?

The best advice I could give you is to walk in with the mindset that this is more of a Tasting Room than a pub. The servers although very nice, are not always super quick about serving beers. So, have to have a bit of patience sometimes-not always… Read more

We were greeted immediately when we walked in and you could tell many of the folks there were regulars - like a modern Cheers vibe. My personal favorite among the beers was the En Fleur and we really liked the Penny Pincher and the Irish Stout they had. I even tried my first breakfast stout there (though I probably will never have beer for breakfast in my wiser years)! It is in the same space as a burger spot, which I think is really smart. We will definitely be back!

OMG; OMB is so freaking good!…read more Frederick has a wealth of local brewers, and Olde Mother is consistently at the top of the heap. The taproom at OMB has a warm, Cheers-like vibe (they don't know my name, but I'm working on it!). Their taps feature a rotating selection of light, sour/fruity, hoppy, dark/malty, and non-alcoholic beers. I'm a fan of their various Kolsches, and their stouts are "interesting" (I enjoyed their Morning Ritual Golden Breakfast Stout this week: looks like a lager, with a maple syrup taste that was really refreshing. Guinness it wasn't!). They also offer cocktails and wines for those poor people that can't appreciate a well-crafted, well-poured brews (pagans!). Pours are generous, prices are reasonable, value is great. They even have a selection of board games so you can while away a cold (or hot) evening by yourself or with friends. But wait: there's more... OMB shares space with Backslash Burgers (which was recently renamed from "50/50 Burgers" for what sounds like trademark reasons. Yelp hasn't caught the name change yet. You'll have to look them up under the old name for my (5 star, baby!) review. TLDR: amazing 50% beef/50% bacon smashburgers cooked to order with your choice of toppings, or you can choose from several very interesting regular offers. (If you like heat, try the "I Can't Feel My Face" burger. I dare you...). Sandwiches can be ordered as single or double patties, and can be made with chicken. Large groups can be accommodated, and there are regular events (bands, Night Markets, even a "Paint Your Pet" night are on this month's schedule) to help bring in thirsty and hungry hordes. Trivia Night is every Thursday, and it can get raucous. OMB shares a parking lot across the street with Gravel & Grind bike and coffee shop. It's not easily handicap accessible, with a few steps separating OMB and BB, and since both are self-service that could be a problem, but it's a great place to make helpful friends, no? The hours are also a little quirky for a pub (Monday-Saturday 11AM-10PM, Sunday 11AM-7PM). So, if you find your way to Frederick (and you should!), stop in for a great brew and burger. Wanted a flight but the beers I wanted for the flight were from cans so could not be included, opted for the Pilsner, it was ok. The inside was very messy, the board games all messy and the merch rack needed some attention. The patio on a nice weather day is perfect, and there was live music as well. A pizza truck outside and a good crowd of people. However, it was a day that needed more than one overwhelmed beertender. The lines at times were out the door. Went in for a second beer but the kolsch cans were not opening, the line became longer as the beertender tried her best to get a few open with no success. Ended up ordering the same beer as there was no other one on the menu that I prefer. Besides her needing some help, it seemed she was not supposed to be there past a certain time and that was reflected while she processed the line. Eventually she got a can opener and I was able to try the kolsch that turned out to be better than the Pilsner as I expected. Overall it was an ok experience at this place. We brought a group of approximately 50 guests and spent the entire afternoon and evening there, from 2 p.m. until closing. Given the size of our group, I estimate we spent well over $2,000 on food and drinks. The brewery was relatively quiet when we arrived, and our party filled much of the venue. Unfortunately, we encountered several issues that made what should have been a special celebration feel unwelcome. When we arrived, children were allowed up to a belt divider separating one area of the brewery. Shortly after our group arrived, the divider was removed and we were told that the children--even well-behaved kids around 12 and 13 years old--had to move to a completely different area. This split our group apart despite there being plenty of available space. A couple of hours later, we were told that we could not use our own insulated tumblers to keep our purchased beers cold. This included the birthday guest himself. What made this especially frustrating was that we observed other patrons using tumblers without being asked to stop. The final disappointment came during the birthday celebration. We brought a cake and a sparkler candle. The manager, who I believe was Derrick Erwee, informed us that it was a fire hazard and could not be used. While I understand safety concerns, no alternative was offered, meaning my husband didn't even get the chance to blow out a birthday candle on his 50th birthday. I then asked if our group, including the children, could come together briefly for a photo and to sing Happy Birthday for just a minute or two. The request was denied. This was particularly disappointing given that a storm was happening outside and our group made up a large portion of the customers in the brewery at the time. I spoke directly with the manager to explain how these decisions were affecting our celebration, but he showed little interest in finding a reasonable accommodation or demonstrating basic customer service. I want to be clear that the bartenders were friendly and professional throughout the event. They were not the issue. However, the overall management experience left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed. After investing significant time, money, and effort into planning such an important milestone celebration, I sincerely wish I had chosen another venue. Based on our experience, I would not recommend RAK Brewing for family gatherings, large group events, milestone celebrations, or anyone expecting a customer-focused experience. I am never coming back, nor my 50 guests.
