The slushie is amazing and a must try. Not tart or too sweet. It's like a marg but cider. There are alcoholic and nonalcoholic options. They also sell the best cider donuts - so insanely moist - but they always run out so get that first!! SPACE: the lots by the apple picking is small. Stopped by after a friend raved about this place. First, we stopped at the country store down the road and I didn't realize this cidery was so tucked away further into the woods. The drive is mostly gravel so be cautious if you're worried about denting your ride. They have a large space with picnic tables under some shaded areas so you can have sun poke through depending on the time of day. There were an inordinate amount of gnats flying around and that definitely hampered the vibe. Ordering is at the front close to parking on a hill/grassy area. Staff were taking orders through the windows and were pretty quick to get things out. The prices weren't worth what we received, in my opinion. Some of the ciders were okay but nothing was as good as many of the options on the market these days. Either tasted watered down or had some odd after tastes. The flight came out to $18 and change with tax and definitely was not what I would expect with 4 smallish pours. I will say the pretzel was larger than I thought but part of ours was overbaked and inedible because it was so hard/tough. The cider donuts were pretty good. I saw a cheese and cracker box next to us and that seems like a legit deal - would recommend that! The N/A cider slushy was good, too. I won't add this to my list of must sees next time I'm in the area but happy to have tried it out. Came here on Friday at 7 PM for their two hour trivia and to sample some local cider. We ordered a flight of several of their featured ciders, and I really liked that they gave a background on all of the ciders. They were on the dry side but some skewed more sweet, and personally I enjoyed them all. Later I got a non alcoholic slushie with prickly pear syrup and that was the best drink I had, especially if you like sweet. The whole place was quite lively, over 25 teams came for trivia, tables were well spaced out, and plenty of space for children to run around. This review only covers the orchard as I went there for apple picking. I went on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by the ample parking. There were a large amount of apple varieties to choose from. There were also options for purchase some of their cider and donuts while at the orchard. There was a food truck on site as well. Due to the timing of my visit, there was also a sunflower field with free sunflowers that customers could pick and take home with them. That was a nice added bonus and showed great customer service. Came on a Saturday afternoon at around 3pm. There are two parts to the venue, one being a gathering place for food and cider. It's family friendly and there are plenty of tables available. They sell apple cider donuts, and plenty of ciders. The second part is the apple picking, which is just a 3 minute drive away. The trees are all in one area and it's a rather small field. We mostly stuck to one variety of apples. It would be great if there was more apple varieties available, although it's understandable given it's later in the season. read more

I only like semi-sweet ciders. I am glad that here, they serve at least one on their menu as they mostly sell dry ciders. On my recent visit, the semi-sweet they had was called Sweet McIntosh. I ordered a small (I think), as the cup was tiny, but the cider itself was tasty. Wished I had ordered a bigger size. Chilled at one of the tables with a friend and listened to some live music. We recently visited Doc Waters, and had a wonderful time! Never having been there before, we wanted to try all of the cider so we got two flights that allowed us to try all eight ciders on tap. They all were good and we had several favorites, including the bourbon barrel and the double hop. Their original was awesome, too. This is an all outdoor cidery. They have many picnic tables, but you can bring your own chairs. They do have food to order, however, we didn't try any on this trip. They had live music in a little band shell, which was wonderful. You can reserve a fire pit, but that would be better for a big group. It was just the two of us this time. We got a visit from the Director of operations and got to talk to him a bit about the business. He did say that they would be open in winter at times with igloos and heaters. We went to both the orchard and the cidery this past weekend. It was beautiful weather and people were out in droves. The people at the orchard were not super helpful and I'm pretty sure the kid that took my money was falling asleep, but we had fun looking for apples that were still ON the trees! The cidery was busy and we could only find tables in the full sun. It was interesting that literally every place to either get a drink or to get food was nearly out of everything. You'd think they'd plan better for a gorgeous fall day in October! I liked the ciders I tried for the most part- not a huge fan of the ones that were not carbonated- kinda tasted like fermented apple juice (I know I know, it is). But I really liked the double hops and the sour cherry! The vibe was good, the music was fun, and it was a great afternoon even if we were extremely limited on what we could order! I'm curious about the "reserved only" firepits. When i had gone to the website, it would only let me reserve the tastings, so not quite sure how to make that happen. I've been wanting to visit Doc Waters Cidery for what feels like years - finally had an opportunity while I was up in Germantown over the weekend. The outdoor space is really awesome - there is a large field with firepit spaces, a semi-covered awning with picnic tables, a small concert stage, and plenty of open picnic tables. There was also a food truck on site that was serving BBQ inspired dishes. Parking is plentiful - no need to be concerned there. The ciders were served from two large bar carts (imagine a large trailer on wheels). They offer 6-8 ciders which is a really nice variety as well as some non alcoholic options which is always a plus to see. I went with a sampling of 4 ciders for $18 bucks - they were all really delicious. Not too sweet and not too tart. On the way out, I bought a growler of my favorite cider for $35 which was great to drink amongst my group of friends. Refills of the growler are only $20 which is a great deal if I'm able to return. The vibes were absolutely perfect for a fall evening - there was a 3 piece band playing some great classic tunes, lots of laughter in the air from all of the guests scattered through the field, and plenty of good cider to enjoy. I do wish there was an indoor option for seating - especially for hot, rainy, or chilly days. 100% outdoor seating limits the time of year that I would want to visit. It's a long drive from where I live, but was worth the trek. I hope to return again! read more

Going into Doc Waters for the first time, I was immediately taken in by the beautiful location, the rustic farm feel, and the large, open spaces. They have two trailers, one which serves alcohol and one that serves everything else -- non alcoholic drinks, snacks, and the like. A third, more hidden, apparently serves burgers and stuff. The staff in the first one were having a lively discussion about the local high school (somewhat confused, they seemed to BE HS students -- serving alcohol?). Even with the adult supervision in the back, they couldn't be bothered to greet us, or help us, until I interrupted to order. The staff at the second trailer wasn't much more helpful, and equally disinterested. I got a flight of four, which were really unevenly poured. The hard ciders themselves went above and beyond the term "dry." They've eliminated any bit of sweetness or anything else that could give it flavour. I have had more delicious glasses of water. The final drink on the flight was a cider with orange guava passionfruit syrup. You know those sequels where they try to squeeze in 872 badguys and it just doesn't work? I had that in a cup -- and it tasted like syrup or koolaid, covering a fizzy, blah coder. The non alcoholic cider -- basically juice -- was sharp and acidic, slightly bitter. These ciders are disappointing. I tried the cider flight but I wasn't a fan of any of the ciders. They were overly dry and flavorless. For D, i chose the passion fruit orange guava flavored cider so I expected it to have more flavor than the others but it was undrinkable. I only took a sip of each before dumping them out. I also tried the charcuterie combo which is just boars head smoked Gouda and salami, so nothing unusual. To attempt to wash down the alcoholic ciders, I tried the non-alcoholic cider. It was bitter and sour, not worth it. Unfortunately also got poured out. It's a shame the ciders were subpar because the location is beautiful with fire pits, games, and food trucks. read more

What a wonderful place! I came here with a small group in sept 2020 for my birthday. I love all their ciders, and I'm also a sucker for frozen drinks, so I really enjoyed the frozen ciders too! There is a lot of open space and tables available. the field is very large. There are picnic tables out in the open field but also tables under some shade. They also have bonfires if you can snag that spot! At night it's gorgeous with all the lighting they have up, so you don't have to worry about going home at sundown. I would highly recommend this place to anyone! Even if you typically do not drink ciders, I do still think it is worth visiting and trying it out! We started our adventure here before going to the orchard. It wasn't too difficult to find parking, and a brief walk down to the entrance where you check in with staff as we had to make a reservation. While the views were very pretty, it was still underwhelming as an atmosphere. I would have anticipated more locations to purchase drinks and food, more yard games and better decor. I see the place is having a lot of potential, but perhaps it's needing business to grow a little bit more before implementing those changes. I'm absolutely in love with the concept of being able to reserve a fire pit for an evening, and that's exactly what a group of friends and I did one early fall evening. We brought a few chairs, dragged a picnic table over from the outdoor seating area (I recommend bringing chairs and not counting on this being an option), and settled in for an evening. I enjoyed the cider slushies in both POG and raspberry, though I will admit that they weren't exactly what I was anticipating. Rather than making raspberry cider and turning that into a slush, it looked like they had a standard cider slush and then added flavor syrups to get the requested slush. The ciders are not super sweet, so I appreciated the added sugar from the slush flavor syrup, but others really liked the plain cider. You can buy s'mores supplies or bring your own (which is what we did). They had a food truck there selling falafel and gyros, which was a nice offering since they have very limited food options on their menu. Bathroom options are also limited--they offer a row of clean and well stocked portapotties, with hand sanitizer both inside and out. Forgetting bug spray was a mistake! The grass was mowed but its basically a field and there were a lot of insects flying around and biting. Bad on us. We'll do better next time. While they officially closed at 9pm, no one was in a rush to kick us out. We realized what time it was by about 9:20 and saw ourselves out while staff continued to close down the counter and put the bonfires out. read more

What a hidden gem! It's really often the beaten path! I mean... I have never been down that road in Germantown, and I don't think I would ever have a reason to go down it again outside of Doc Water Cidery. So it's a pretty large outdoor space. And there's MANY plastic picnic tables in that space. They use handy little wood blocks that have a green side for "clean table" and a red side for "dirty table". So, you instantly tell which tables you can sit at, and the staff can tell which tables they need to clean. There are also little fire pits out in that large green area. Those are good not only for warmth, and to sit around. But Doc Waters also sells hot dogs and marshmallows on long wooden sticks too to roast, so the fires are multi-purpose. Onto the cider. I tried a blood orange cider slushie and it was absolutely freakin' delicious. It's their cider base with a few squirts of blood orange syrup; much like the kinds they use at Starbucks. It was so good... man I wish I had one right now. Overall, it's a really cute and unique place. There is a property on the side of Doc Waters that has a fenced it little farm growing veg and beautiful flowers including sunflowers. It's a really pretty border and surround for the space. We spent a lovely Spring evening here trying some tasty cider. I have to say the grapefruit was my favorite. They are doing their best during the pandemic. First, you have to make a reservation. Once you get there, all the tables have a wooden block with red on one side, and green on the other. Green means the table has been cleaned. Although it was up to the previous customer to turn the block when they leave. Everyone wore a mask and social distanced when going to the counter to make their drink orders. Staff was friendly and helpful. We were there on a Saturday evening and according to the website, there should have been three food trucks. When we arrived at 7:00 pm, there were only two. The first truck was Wingz N Things and they were completely sold out of wings. They only had tater tots and fries left. The other truck was a burger truck with a 40 minute wait and they were running out of lettuce. The other two advertised trucks, District Falafel and Spreads by Susu, were not there. Perhaps they came earlier. So my advice would be to go earlier if you want a meal with your cider. I saw a few firepits going which would have been nice on a colder day. This past Saturday, the temp reached 90 degrees so I'm glad I got the table. There was plenty of room to social distance and it was so nice to see so many people relax outside. I do wish there was a separate smoking section or no smoking at all. I think with Covid around, it was not a great idea to allow smoking. The smoke definitely travels in the area and spreads easily to other people. The cidery was a surprise to me. I had no idea it was in MoCo. Also, plenty of parking. My wife and I and a few friends went to Doc Waters last fall and loved it. The cider was great, the ambiance was beautiful, and we loved the idea of renting a fire pit there. So much so that when my wife's birthday rolled around this year, she wanted to host her birthday gathering there. Everyone I spoke to on the phone was lovely, and we were super excited. We booked a Sunday firepit session from 1-4 and everyone agreed to make the trek out. This time, we were disappointed. Cons: -Reservation for our firepit was from 1-4. My wife and I hit some traffic, but our friends arrived a few minutes after 1 and checked in. The woman at the check-in station assured them that someone would be around soon to start the fire (they provide equipment and you are not allowed to start it yourself. When we arrived around 1:20, the fire had still not been started, which was fine, and I was assured it would be started soon. Our fire was not started until ~2:20, over an hour into the reservation we paid for. -About 45 minutes after me and my wife and the rest of our party arrived, I went to inquire about the fire as we were a bit chilly. I had noticed the man starting the fire was tending to other lit fires whereas ours hadn't been lit, so I just wanted to see if they had forgotten. Another man was supervising the guy starting the fires, so I went up and politely asked about our fire. The guy snapped at me before I could even get a word out and was really rude, saying they were working on it and he'd get to it when he got to it. Even a simple "Sorry we're running behind, it will be awhile" would have been fine, but the guy was super condescending and abrupt for absolutely no reason. -No one came back to tend to our fire despite them saying several times that they would. -The ciders just...weren't good. I say this having loved them last year. Everyone in the party got different ciders, we all have different tastes, and we all didn't care for any of them. They lacked flavor, some were weirdly bitter or overly sweet, and they just weren't drinkable. The hot cider was fine, though it didn't taste like much, and my friend who got a full-size pour of the pumpkin liked it, but all of us who got a small pour as part of the tasting flight didn't care for it. I tasted hers, and it was completely different from the tasting flight pour, which seems like a pretty big consistency issue to me. -We spent the majority of our time waiting in line for ciders or food. I fully expected to wait on a beautiful fall day, but the wait times exceeded all expectations, and we all left feeling like we had wasted a lot of our time. It wasn't busy enough to justify the amount of time waiting. Things were disorganized and slow, and even the simplest online ordering system could have helped. -This last con isn't entirely the fault of Doc Waters directly, but my friends who hadn't eaten waited in line at their booked outside food truck, a place called DMV Sliders, for 1.5 hours for a few sliders and some fries. That's not an exaggeration. The line was super long, moved at a snail's pace, and the food they received at the end was ice cold. Pros: -Really nice ambiance, and we love the ability to book a fire pit for the day. -The guy who actually started the fire was nice and clearly just overworked. They need about 10X the staff to help the staff members who are trying to help. -You can bring your own outside food, and some of us did. If we return, we will certainly all be bringing our own food and not relying on the trucks. I am willing to believe the ciders could be good again. Perhaps this year was a bad harvest. I really didn't know what to expect when I arrived at Doc Waters Cidery on Saturday. I'd signed up for the Cidermaker's Tasting & Tour a few weeks ago for a fun outing with my girlfriend only to have a rainy day with the tasting and tour cancelled. Luckily, I was provided options then, either to cancel and have my money refunded or to have my tasting and tour rescheduled (I obviously rescheduled). The Doc Waters Cidery website states that leashed dogs are welcome; with the bucolic surroundings, it isn't shocking that patrons had their dogs with them but a great number of patrons had their dogs unleashed and roaming around free which I didn't really care for. While I have nothing against children, there were far more than I expected given the fact we were at a cidery. Though there was a food truck on site (one we were looking forward to sampling), there was a thirty-minute wait upon our arrival so we did not have the time. The trailer serving alcoholic beverages was out of the cider slushies that me and my girlfriend had been craving for weeks. I didn't check out the other trailer, serving snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, so I can't speak to its pros or cons. Of course, as I mentioned, we were there for the Cidermaker's Tasting & Tour and that essentially negated all of the issues I had elsewhere. My girlfriend and I along with another couple sampled five ciders, the Wildcat Woods Reserve Still Cider, the Hopped Carbonated Cider, the Oak Aged Still Cider, the Orchard Blend Carbonated Cider, and the Goldrush Cider (I think). All were just wonderful, especially the still ciders (which had wine-like qualities). The cidermaker walked the four of us through the process he goes through to create the different ciders, showcasing an immense level of knowledge and passion throughout. The tour of the building where the cider is aged was wonderful, especially when the cidermaker opened the door to where apples are stored, the scent of apple overwhelming our senses in only the best ways. I was looking forward to buying a bottle of the Hopped Carbonated Cider but, alas, the trailer with alcohol was out. But I know that I'll enjoy the Orchard Blend Carbonated Cider I purchased instead. I'm hoping to try the Pink Lady Cider on a future visit. read more

What a blast!If you ever in that side of town is a must you will not be disappointed.. went here in November to do apple picking. I got my ticket before arriving to orchard is about $17.00 per person. Upon arrival you get a bag according to your reservation, you get to enter the orchard tree area without supervision. We were able to take tons of pictures and enjoy walking around the orchard. You can pick the apples you wanted and enjoy every moment. 100's of apples to choose from. Like what many reviewers have said, this place is a hidden gem! It takes a bit to drive out here, but there's plenty of space for social distancing and whatever you'd like to do! They have picnic tables spread throughout the lawn, and some are covered, but most are not. I did see a family bring their own pop-up canopy tent which seemed like a great investment for these times. The cidery is just under the barn/warehouse, and there's a few things on the menu. I opted for the cider flight because I love trying everything. I liked the Orchard Blend Bubbles the best, but honestly I love cider so everything was enjoyable. The employees all wore masks, and they had plexiglass between them and customers. In addition, they had these blocks on the tables to mark whether or not the table was clean or dirty. They are very responsive to questions - I messaged them on Facebook Messenger to ask a few questions and they answered everything quickly. To recap, they do serve their own food (cheese & crackers, salami & crackers, chips, and hot dogs and s'mores kits for DIY roasting) but you are also welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. They love well-behaved dogs on leashes, and currently are allowing groups up to 6. read more

We stopped by Doc Waters cidery on accident actually. We were heading to an orchard and ended up here and decided to check it out! The property is actually pretty big. There's tons of tables, covered and uncovered, with many fire pits scattered around. There were a huge amount of people dispersed through the field hanging out. Seemed like it was going to be a good time! We got the cider flight. They give you 3 and you get to choose the fourth speciality flavor. We chose blackberry. They give you nice large tastes of all the flavors. I wasn't a huge fan, but I did really like the blackberry cider. It was packed with blackberry flavor and aroma. I loved that. Overall, this was a very cute place to hang out. There's a food truck, and you can get hot dogs and marshmallows to roast over the fire pits. read more

So... a couple of caveats about this review. First, this was during Phase 2 of post-pandemic reopening. Second, we only stopped by the cidery, not the orchard, as we were somewhat limited on time... and we didn't even know this joint was there! (We were in the neighborhood for an unrelated event). This was a great find, though! I would have loved to learn more about their ciders, maybe do a tasting, but things weren't back to 100% 'normal' mode just yet. Still, they had a LOT of people (well-distanced) in the great big field there, hanging out and having a good time with their families/friends. The staff constantly wore masks, answered all our questions, and were very helpful and friendly. I had the tasting flight (who said you can't still do a tasting? just... much larger sample sizes!). Each one was about 6 oz (probably 8 oz!) of their Still, Sparkling, Hopped, and flavored Still (I went with grapefruit). Oh, and I tried a cider slushy with strawberry flavoring. EVERYTHING was great! The still and sparkling are both quite dry, which makes for a much more mature and versatile cider. The hopped one had a more complex flavor, excellent for craft beer fans. The flavors are just syrups, but they add a nice slightly sweet surprise to the already tasty ciders. And the slushy... such fun! This was a wonderful find, and we were so happy we stopped on by. Cider tasted like cough syrup! I was looking forward to visiting this cidery because of location, but I was very disappointed with the flavor of the ciders. When I was ordering, I expressed that I prefer sweet tones, so the lady suggested a contribution between Doc Waters Cider with Butler's Orchard. It must have been old or not good because it was very bitter and stale. I ended up throwing away my drinks. I will not recommend. read more

This place is definitely off the beaten path! The last 5 minutes of our drive there was on a one-way tight road. Their outdoor space was pretty large with multiple picnic tables set up, and a few fire pits spread out. I appreciated that they had blocks on their tables (red for dirty, green for clean) so customers could tell where they could sit. They didn't have the biggest selection of ciders, but what they had was great! Their food selection consisted of cheese/crackers, salami/crackers, hotdogs, s'mores, and pretzels. I was really excited to go here. Unfortunately their website said they were open until 8pm and the signs on site said 5pm. We drove out of our way to get there and didn't arrive until 4:30. We rushed and got a flight (pink lady was the best, but all were super sweet). We tried to buy a bottle but they had closed the shed early. Wish they would have still sold bottles to go after last call. read more
