Thank you for a lovely Sunday afternoon visit! We enjoyed a lovely tasting by the owners. We had emailed in advance letting them know we would be a group of 8 visiting but it wasn't too crowded for drop ins. Ciders were unique - varieties of apples, pears and berries. They have won several awards and have great hospitality.

Willow Oak has an impressive assortment of unique ciders that provide audiences with natural ciders that emphasize the native tastes of the fruits used. The environment is scenic and relaxing. The view is beautiful and highlights the countryside of Frederick county.

Wonderful craft cider. Beautiful interior and lovely Maryland countryside view. Best organic cider varieties without added sulfites!

The view is gorgeous here!

We really appreciated the accommodation with a baby and a big dog, the cider was good though selection was not huge (5), food was cursory but tasty- we enjoyed the panini, ambiance was inviting, service was very pleasant. They offer a nice variety of ciders, wines, and cocktails, so there's something for everyone. We visited on a Wednesday and found the service to be a little slow, although the staff was friendly. We had the chicken Cesar wrap and turkey sandwich, which were both alright but nothing particularly stellar. The cocktails were definitely a highlight! My friend had the strawberry sour cocktail, and I had one made with gin and lemon called Marc c --both were delicious. We also tried several of the ciders, which were a little sweeter than my personal preference, and the wine was just OK. That said, I have to admit we had just come from several wineries, so the wine had some tough competition! Overall, I'd definitely recommend stopping by for the beautiful setting, cocktails, and atmosphere. It's a great place to relax and enjoy a drink with friends

It was an hour and a half drive for us, and I wouldn't make a trip of it. After the orchard, we drove two minutes down the street to the cidery. The space was smaller than I expected, and it's really geared toward groups. There's not much to do besides eat, drink, and listen to the live music. AMBIANCE There are lots of benches, so it's great if you bring friends to play cards, talk, and enjoy each other's company. There's a small play area for toddlers, and it's dog friendly. The live music was just one person instead of a band, and I would've enjoyed a little more energy and entertainment. SERVICE The hard cider section was really cool. They offer testers and flights, which made it easy to figure out what we liked before committing. The staff at the hard cider spot were top notch. FOOD AND DRINKS The seasonal flavors were phenomenal. Prickly pear was our favorite, with raspberry a close second. There were two Mexican food trucks, one making stone oven pizza, which was really cool, and one with tacos and tortas. What we got was good and reasonably priced. The big letdown was the cider donuts. They only sold them in packs of six, and they weren't warmed, so we skipped them. Cider donuts are one of the best parts of going to places like this in the fall, so that really stung. VERDICT Great ciders and good food, but with one person playing music and not much to do, I wouldn't go back. It's pretty far for us, and it wasn't worth the drive. If you live in the area, it could be worth stopping in with a group, but I wouldn't make a trip of it.

The cider pairings were also well executed and just so good. The pours were also very generous. Just loved it. I hope Kristin and Doc Ciders continue to partner and provide these wonderful dinners for years to come. The red barn also provided a perfect backdrop for the event. It's so rustic and just made the overall dinner memorable

But the orchard is very organized w/ rows & rows of different apple varieties - each row labeled. And the trees look like branches coming from the ground, with vines & vines of apples. They provide lacrosse-looking "picking sticks" to help grab apples from the harder-to-reach areas. You can purchase small, medium, and large "pick your own" bags - we did the small for $20, and you can actually pack quite a # of apples in there. Apple varieties from sweet to tart: Joy, Fuji, Shizuka, Pink Lady (yum), Jonagold, Galrina, Enterprise, Wine Crispy, Florina Querina, and Granny Smith. The drive to the orchard was really beautiful - all the leaves were bright yellow. Oh yeah - no restrooms, just port-a-potty's in the parking lot. We didn't have time but we heard Butler's Orchard & Market is in the same area and supposed to be a fun spot to visit.

We got five or six after looking forever. It was an hour and a half drive for us, and it wasn't worth it. We saw this place on TikTok as somewhere to go apple picking, and that's really what we were excited about. We made the hour and a half trip on Sunday, November 1st, their second weekend open. The website said a late winter hurt the crops, so apple picking opened later and only two varieties were available. That made sense to us, but it still shaped the whole day. AMBIANCE It was pretty quiet, maybe 20 people total, and there was ample parking. The walk out to the apples was nice scenery, and the sunflower field was a great photo op. There were a lot of sunflowers, and they were free to pick. There was also a small cider area and a Mexican food truck up front. SERVICE The staff was friendly, but only two people were working, one at the cider area and one at tickets. We bought tickets for two, around $20 to $30, and the woman didn't tell us anything about how to pick apples or how to spot a good one. All she said was that the better apples were toward the fence line and how to walk there. As first time apple pickers, we had no idea what to look for. She also said the sunflowers were free but she didn't have shears, so we had to snap them off with our bare hands. I would've brought my own if I'd known. Out in the orchard there weren't any employees around to help, so it felt completely self service. THE APPLE PICKING This is where it fell flat. A group walking out told us there weren't many apples left and they couldn't believe the orchard was still selling tickets. They were right. There were lots of apples on the ground, and many had big decaying spots. They give you spears to grab apples from the trees, which we didn't know how to use at first, but we figured it out quickly. After looking tirelessly, we got about five or six apples. It wasn't the experience I expected, and honestly, it wasn't fun. FOOD AND DRINKS We got a hard cider and a regular cider, and the regular cider was very good. VERDICT I wouldn't go back. It's pretty far for us, and it wasn't worth the drive for what we got. If you live nearby and want sunflower photos, maybe stop in, but I'd skip the apple picking this late in the season.
