It has been a while since I've been to Rockwell Brewery, but from what I remember, I had a really good time. The environment was very chill, and getting a flight gave me the chance to try a few things I normally wouldn't have ordered. The people were friendly, and the overall vibe felt calm and easygoing. I went during the day, so I can't speak to what it's like in the evening. Parking was also surprisingly easy to find, at least at that hour. I'd say give them a shot. read more

I'm a fan of Rockwell brewery! They have a good selection of beers. My faves are mostly the IPAs - big juicy, drop it like it's hop, and el kabong. They have a small food menu but what they do serve up is delicious. The pepperoni pizza and pretzel braids are solid. One suggestion is having a pepperoni pretzel on the menu! read more

Went here to grab a flight of beer since it was across the road from the place we were getting dinner. There were musicians outside when we arrived, but because of the heat we decided to sit inside. We ended up getting a flight of four beers with the Under Pressure-Vienna Lager, Vincent '52 Schwarzbier, Rapture American Blonde Ale, and Fruit in a Pint-Blueberry Lemonade Sour. The lager and schwarzbier were spot on for me flavor wise. Neither was very hoppy and both had robust flavor notes in their respective categories. The Blueberry Lemonade Sour was quite surprising in that you definitely did get the blueberry and lemonade flavors, but it really wasn't for me. The American blonde ale was a pretty standard drinkable beer which was good for a hot summer day. Overall, pretty good beer and I'd be interested in trying more of their varieties after these all seemed to hit the mark. read more

One nice thing to set Rockwell apart is that they have some beer cocktails on offer (shandies, etc) for those that may not love beer (e.g., my wife). Visited Frederick, MD this weekend for a quick getaway with some friends and Rockwell was a 2 minute walk from our Airbnb. After dropping our bags off, two of us walked over to the brewery and quickly found a table inside. The scannable barcode on a piece of paper on the table did not bring up a list of Rockwell beers so we were a bit confused about how ordering worked and flagged down a Rockwell employee who was walking by for more clear details. He pointed out the beer list on the wall and told us to put in our orders at the register. Cool. I quickly saw a mixed drink I wanted, that had a sour beer featured. I walked to the register and told the young lady there I wanted the specific drink. "We can't do that because we don't have sour." I was fairly rudely and bluntly told. No apologies or suggestions for similar drink possibilities were forthcoming. I stepped back to peruse the beer list again while my friend ordered. She also did not get friendly service. Not cool. I decided to order a flight since I couldn't get what I wanted. I picked 4, and told the girl my selection, and she took my card to start a tab. Another employee handed me the flight board with my beers. I carried them over to my table and started in on them. I'd say I really liked 2 of them and the other 2 were thumbs down. My friend and I split another beer from a can, can't recall the name of that particular beer but it was pretty good. Tabbing out was fairly easy, despite a crowd having accumulated around happy hour time. Overall, Rockwell is really appealing looking inside, modern-y, yet sometime seemingly rustic. The outside had a ton of tables and chairs, plus a bunch of heaters. Tons of free parking. Beer was 50/50, service...idk. Avoid the young woman who works there, that's all I got. read more

Great brewery with outdoor seating + heat lamps, lots of beer options, & friendly staff. We took our pup here after a nice hike and were pleasantly surprised! The location is sort of squat in the middle of a parking lot - while not necessarily scenic, it was quiet and there was plenty of space for social distancing. It was a nice day today but they had heat lamps set up outside so you can definitely go back when it's cold. We ordered from the BBQ food truck, it was actually only ok, wouldn't get that again, but it was nice that there was food. Lots of beer options - IPAs, sours, stouts etc. I got a beer flight - the Kokomo sour tasted like Nerds candy! My favorite was the BIG Juicy IPA, I got some of that to go as well. Staff was very friendly, and there was a nice set up for dogs - w/ water and bowls. Overall, great experience, I'd recommend it and we will be back! read more

Went here for the first time last weekend as our second stop (after a winery--wild Sunday, right!?) I firstly want to highlight the great job they're doing amid Covid-19. Outdoor seating is available. They have laminated cards on every table. Green font with a statement about how the table is sanitized. A side with red font you flip to when you are leaving to show other patrons the table still has to be sanitized before you can use it. Additionally they have the spray bottle hand sanitizer created by McClintock's Distillery. So rest assured, this is a "safe" option for the contentious. They have an awesome selection of beers, even a hard seltzer option, and some "beer cocktails." I got one of those (can't remember the name) but it was essentially a shandy and I really enjoyed it. Roast House had their food truck there and we dove into the "crabby tots." We shared among three people. As always, Roast House never disappoints. Finally, there's games available for play so your group has an activity while hanging out. We played some cards and Dirty Words-Party Addition. Definitely visit Rockwell's, the lot is huge and slightly out of downtown (If you don't mind looking at Family Meal and shedding a tear.) read more

Big picture: I'm quite tickled that Frederick is becoming a hub for craft beer! Rockwell is another good one. The beers I have tried: Bad Leroy - Barrel aged imperial brown Ale. AWESOME brew! Probably my favorite here. At first I thought that it's too bad they don't allow jug takeaway of this one. Then I realized that one glass would be enough. A must try! Rye Stone Cowboy American rye pale ale. Made with citrus and rye. YES, a very light a drinkable beer Revolution ESB - average yes Bitchin' Camaro milk stout. All caps YES! Lord Kitchener English Ale. nope The menu offered some Good Korean wings that are delivered 50 feet across the parking lot from Family meal. We stopped in on a Monday afternoon. Apparently they were hosting a 'party' of some sorts. But the 'party' group was everywhere and loud. While we had to order our 'beers' from the bar, the pourer came out to take the other groups order, repeatedly. We only stopped because we were lead to believe there was food. Bagged (not fresh) popcorn, bagged (not fresh) pretzels, again not food. The beer was average, nothing that I would search out again. Rockwell is a great brewery nestled inside of an industrial looking building in Frederick, MD. I happned to visit on a rainy night, but I did see a beautiful outdoor area that I'm sure is tons of fun when its not storming outside. I was greeted (literally right at the door) by a friendly member of staff and from the minute I entered until I left, everyone there was attentive. Theres lots of long tables and a decent size bar for seating. There's a shelf with games such as Jenga and Uno available. Their beer is priced pretty average at $6-7 per pint. My favorite that I tried was their hemp IPA, I highly recommend! I had a great time here and cannot wait to visit again. read more

Stopped in coming back from Deep Creek. Great ambience with outdoor seating, gas fireplace in corner and both picnic tables and comfy chairs. Service was very personable, friendly and knowledgeable. We had a 4 pack tasting from current menu. Blueberry wheat was more sour than expected. Both stouts were winners and the red stood out for its depth and complexity of flavors. There are games available as well as tasty food. Sloppy Joe sandwich is exactly the way you picture it tasting from memory. Solid comfort food. Right sized portions. Double stack burger is 2 McD's sized patties making it workable for regular appetites (looking at you, ladies!). Fries are separate. Generous portion of lightly Old Bay seasoned steak fries served HOT, HOT, HOT!! 3 sauces: spicy aioli, Boardwalk (old bay/mayo) and thick ranch. All were complementary to the fries and fought over. Had an enjoyable experience at this brewery while trying nearly every beer in flight size (don't judge me) and really was digging a good amount of them especially the Irish Red and Milk Stout. We went during the winter, but I'd like to return during the warmer months to enjoy the outdoor area, which is just a blacktop gated in, but still has a nice set up. Bartenders are very nice and accommodating which is always a plus. Games are also available to past the time as you consume your adult beverages. Solid brewery! I was in town visiting my in-laws so naturally I went to the bar...I kid, I kid. Actually went with my brother-in-law and we both opted for different flights. I really like their process for ordering the flight. They have pads of paper with 4 circles, you put the number of the beer from the menu you want. Easy and efficient, I love it. I enjoyed the beers I had, the first one I had was #1 it was bourbon based and when I say bourbon based, I thought it was a shot. It was a little potent for a beer. I don't think I could have drank a pint of this stuff. I love bourbon but it was too much for me. I enjoyed the ESB the most. Like all beer, your mileage will vary depending on what you enjoy. I was a bit bummed they were out of the 2 I really wanted to try, the milk stout and Irish ale. Whomp. You can order some small snacks from a restaurant in the same parking lot and they bring it to you (we didn't do that), they also have chips and what not for sale. The space is cool and inviting, they have a couple TVs for games as well as a bar and communal style tables. It's next to a cigar store too, so even better. Give it a shot! read more

Went here on a busy Saturday evening- the beer was amazing, especially their apricot sour and toffee porter. I really liked the space as well- such a cool vibe. My only qualms were the wait at the counter to be served (I waited for upwards of 20 minutes) and the staff beer knowledge. They had a 19 year-old behind the counter and I asked him to describe their ESB, but his response was that he didn't know since he was underage. A suggestion is to give the workers tasting notes on the beers being served. Overall, I'd definitely go back and am glad to have discovered another great DTF brewery. read more

The bar is a good size and it is pretty easy to find a spot to squeeze in and order a drink. By far one of my favorite breweries... and I'm not even a beer person! The ginger beer is perfect for me because it does not taste like beer. It's super light and crisp. Love the games you can play while there with friends. The food is also amazing. Make sure you get the fried chicken. But you can also bring in food of your own. Finally, a microbrewery that offers something besides IPAs! I love trying a new brew recipe, but I can't stand it when a board is nothing but IPAs. Rockwell has a nice variety of beers, something for every palate. Being able to order food from the Family Meal across the parking lot is a nice bonus too. It was pretty crowded for a Friday night, but not uncomfortable. And when a group of guys got louder than everyone and everything else in the tasting room, management was really awesome about addressing it without it turning into a big deal. Everyone was grateful.
