We really enjoy coming to Buenos Grill and stop by every couple weeks for take out. Our favorites are the burritos and MANGO SALSA!! I can go without the nachos though. Just not my style and could use a runnier cheese but that's a matter of opinion. It is clear they use fresh ingredients and I think that is why some find the flavoring a bit bland but adding a salsa or a little salt may assist. I prefer less flavorful so I can add what I want vs. a fast food flavor (overly seasoned with salt). They also always accommodate my children's food requests without issue. Aside from the food, my husband says the service is always great. Kind people who are working hard all the time. I have never been inside myself. We just ordered dinner, which we do frequently, and I realized I've never come to Yelp to leave a great review yet! I was a little disappointed to see how negative the reviews were and some of the "owner" responses did make me hesitant to continue enjoying the food but I think there may just be a communication difference and so I'm going to overlook that in hopes the owner sees this and understands that negative reviews suck. They hurt your business but your response to them is what people end up seeing because most of us will come back with a good review after a bad visit is corrected. Literally middle of the road Mexican food here, pricey for what it is, my chicken verde burrito was bland no spice more rice and beans then anything else, my wife's fish taco was as she said decent but nothing great shrimp taco was a joke two pieces of shrimp and a huge mound of some kind of bland slaw... Don't think we will head back any time soon to pricy for what you get, to many other places with way better food... After hearing great things about this place, my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. We entered the welcoming restaurant that had star-shaped paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and a big marlin on the wall, something that reminded us of home - Florida. I ordered the baja fish taco, add mango salsa. My boyfriend was a bit more hungry so he ordered the spiced rubed fish burrito and requested mahi instead of salmon. The staff was surprisingly accommodating and granted our requests. Additionally, we order chips and salsa (not knowing that our meals came with plenty of chips and unlimited trips to the fresh salsa bar). The food came and my baja taco was very good; a nice piece of fried cod topped with cabbage slaw and a sprinkling of mangos. It was pretty tasty, although it lacked some flavor. With the added salsas from the bar, it ended up being pretty good. My boyfriends burrito was delivered and upon cutting into it, we both realized there was not even a flake of fish inside. After telling the waitress, she apologized and explained that they typically flake up the fish and mix it into the pile of rice and beans. She took the burrito and minutes later another burrito was delivered with just as much rice and beans, but this time with noticeable pieces of fish. All in all, the meal was decent. My boyfriend and I decided it was best to stick with the tacos and ditch the huge portion of rice and beans that comes with the added $3 for the burrito. I will never patronize this restaurant again. Up until tonight I've eaten there at least once a week for several months. Different story tonight...I always order my fish taco with 2 flour tortillas. However the person who was waiting on the counter was acting like I was creating a problem. So I said that my order is never a problem when I'm there in the afternoon. Haven't been here in along time. Was hoping something got better with the food. Never understood why so many people eat here. My husband and I tried it again. It is sub-par with any other Mexican restaurant in Reno. The tacos were not edible. The menu said grilled chicken. It was straight from the freezer, freezer taste and all. It was not grilled. The food here is great, I got a steak burrito and my fiancé got spicy beef tacos. Our friends got fish tacos and a chicken taco salad. Even our son who is 2 and a half was able to get chicken strips, making this place great for everyone! Everything was very yummy. The food is low in sodium therefore if you like your food to be saltier...grab a salt shaker and quit complaining! Their food is healthy, delicious and not bogged down in salt! I loved it. Was feeling a craving for fish today, wanted fish and chips but tried two locations and was unable to get some! I saw Buenos and thought, "PERFECTO - Fish Specialists!" I got the most popular dish which is first on the menu, "Charbroiled Fish, Mango Salsa" burrito (just under $10 w/o tax), as I was quite hungry! It took a while to get the burrito and I was the only waiting for an order in there, with just one other person already dining. I got the burrito and it has a hole on the bottom, so it was not wrapped well. I immediately starting getting stuff coming out and all over my hands. I pre-tried the Pico (Mild), the Chipotle Salsa (Spicy), and another one that was supposed to be Spicy (the only other spicy one). I liked the Pico the best, the Chipotle was okay, the other one, which the spice turned out to be Black Pepper, and it was not good at all. The burrito was soaked, as the chef didn't drain the beans so this was a super messy burrito and the tortilla was falling apart due to the hole and the super liquid inside. It was very difficult to eat, turning mushier by the second. The fish was nothing special, and this is a fresh fish, called Ono (?). It had no seasoning on the fish. The burrito tasted like charbroiled plain Jane fish with very little flavor, VERY wet black beans and rice, a little sweet from the mango salsa. I added Pico as I could and Chipotle, which helped with the SUPER BLAND flavors. It was a below average experience, so not a place that really is, "A-Okay" but Meh, "I Have Experienced MUCH Better". read more

The atmosphere was nice and the staff was polite, but the food is where it goes downhill. The salsa was old and watered down which gave it a acidic carbonated taste. I got a chicken taco and might as well have eaten cardboard. The chicken had no seasoning and the slaw on top was cheap unflavored store bought. My wife got a chicken quesadilla which was not bad, but how hard is it to cook cheese and chicken in a tortilla. The overall experience wasn't bad, but the food is so bland that it's hard to look past it. We're new to the area, and we will not make this mistake again. I have been meaning to try this place since I read the dog friendly reviews ... but it's been a chilly winter, so we haven't been much interested in outdoor seating. Tonight I just didn't feel like cooking. So on our way back from the walk, I stopped in. Now it's a Friday night, so the place was pretty full. But right away, I was acknowledged, which was nice. The staff was super friendly. They have a frequent diner program, which is pretty cool. The wait for my take out wasn't bad, either. Now, the food. I can't rate it on it's authenticity of mexican food, because that isn't what I ordered. I ordered the coconut crunchy tofu. I must say, it was really good... I had never had this before, so I was pleasantly surprised. Coming from L.A. it would probably be tough to compete with the many places I have experienced as far as authentic and delicious mexican cuisine in the past.. but I will definitely come back here for my tofu dish. I don't eat meat....so I am not the one to look to as far as any of the other dishes. read more

It's a great burrito place - the Del Mar burrito is my favorite. It's a very family friendly place. Ideal when you come back from a kids sport event. The owner and the staff are super friendly, so you're for sure going to have a pleasant experience. The restaurant is in need of an upgrade though. The board where the menu is located looks dated. This was my first experience with Reno Mexican food after coming from Los Angeles with it's proverbial "taco truck on every corner." I was pleasantly surprised. It's a big place with a light, airy feel and some fun local-looking art on the walls. Nice touch. I really liked the neon tropical beach painting by the bathrooms. I got the Chicken Verde burrito with black beans and guacamole. Yes, it would have been better with sour cream and cheese, but that guac was super-good. Meat seemed fresh and was certainly tasty. Excellent hot flour tortilla. The salsas at the salsa bar tasted like they came out of a can but served the spicing up purpose well. Buenos Grill doesn't suck. I would eat here again. I understand Reno's far from Mexico so getting a burrito this good with all that guacamole was a nice surprise. read more

It pains me to do this...I mean, my soul actually aches a little, but today's experience with Buenos was not exactly....bueno. Not looking at the menu (which I now regret doing) I ordered the Mexican salad, expecting the typical taco shell, cheeses, salsa, maybe some black beans and some form of shredded or diced meat. But what I actually GOT looked more like something created by a Mexican who just discovered he was actually Greek. Beets? Shredded beets? Gwah?? Carrots and garbanzo beans? And....it was difficult to tell but....mozzarella cheese? Or maybe like shredded provolone? The only thing even remotely Mexican about this salad was that it came in a taco shell. But hell, if that's all it takes to qualify something as Mexican, we've just opened a HUGE can of worms. (Try our Mexican lasagna, where we serve lasagna....in a taco shell. Or our Mexican pizza, where we serve pizza....in a taco shell. All your favorites served with a Mexican flare....in a taco shell). To be perfectly fair, the salad wasn't exactly bad. It just was NOT what I was expecting and it did not satisfy the particular craving I was experiencing. When you go into a Mexican food place, you're kinda there for a particular set of flavors. I want to like this place, I really do. And generally, their food is okay. But each time I go, I want to chuck a box of kosher salt across the counter and say, "Here! This stuff works! Use it!" First, their food is expensive. A taco is $5.25, and I thought I left those crazy prices in DC. They're big, but c'mon. The Buenos taco has slaw, mango salsa, and fish, but there is so much stuff that the tortilla rips by the time I eat it. Add that to the fact that in the meanwhile I've emptied the salt shaker into both my taco and the guacamole I ordered as a side. We had the fajitas once and those are pretty good--but skip the chicken and order the shrimp, you'll thank me later. The guacamole is actually a pretty good deal for the amount of guac that you get, but again the fajitas are a little pricey for a casual dining place. I like Buenos because I feel like I'm eating healthfully (even if I'm just kidding myself), but I hate that it costs me a mint to do so (and that I have to salt everything in front of me, water excluded). read more

This used to be a decent place in town for fantastic fish tacos, beer and fresh salsa. However, over the years it seems to have forgotten what makes a restaurant great - good, fresh food, good customer service and (hopefully) a passion for the business. Sadly, Beunos Grill is lacking in all three areas. My last two visits have started off on the wrong foot. Upon walking up to the counter to place my order I was greeted with agitation and not a smile or a hello. In fact, it seemed like me placing an order was more of an imposition. Despite the fact that there were a total of seven other patrons in the restaurant, it took more than 15 minutes to get the two Baja tacos I ordered. After a rather lengthy wait for what appeared to be a simple order I was presented with two very dry and flavorless tacos. Fish was overcooked, tacos were wet and fell apart and the over sauced cabbage was bland and tasteless. Rather than drag out a review that berates this establishment, I'd rather just summarize and say that I'm very disappointed that what once was one of my favorite taco eateries has now become a place that I will no longer patronize. The dude that took our order was as impersonal and "meh" as the dirt stain on the sole of my sneaker. #2. $18 for two burritos that had dry steak, and flavorless salsa. Or, flavorless everything. #3. My "burrito" turned into a soft taco half way through consuming because the "cook" doesn't understand the meaning of a burrito. The good? Though I have come to loathe the SF/Bay Area and attempt to get the hell out of town every chance I get one of the things I admittedly like about this otherwise unimpressive region is the plethora of various ethnic restaurants so it's always a pleasant surprise when I come across a great restaurant (in this case, a Mexican restaurant) during my routine sojourns into Free America. Though I only had an appetizer in the form of a shrimp cocktail there (we were due for some pretty physical training after lunch and I didn't wanna puke after gorging myself) it was pretty damned satisfying. My classmates all rated their choice of entrees at either a 3.5 or a four out of five stars so it looks like this place gets an unanimous thumbs up. The establishment (which is located in southwest Reno) is pretty spacious, has an outdoor patio and the staff there is extremely diligent as well as personable. read more

Try it out before you jump to conclusions based on reviews. Buenos Grill takes knowledge of the menu and time trying out multiple options before you realize the value it can bring to your rotation and options in town. People have strong feelings about fish taco varieties and Buenos has three of the most diverse and most argued over options, also available in burrito form. They have your typical grilled white fish, fried, and a spicy Del Mar salmon option. Get to know the salsa bar to add flavor layers to your choices. All the salsas are approachable despite the label mild, medium, and hot. The chipotle option is amazing the chip dipping salsa is mild but a good option, also the verde is a good choice. I do not often use the hottest option so don't ask me about that one. We like the Brie and Mango Quesadilla, the coconut shrimp appetizer or platter, the variety of salad options, and the tortilla soup is amazing. You get the choice of black or pinto beans and rice with most entrees. Note, they do also have chicken and beef items but we focus on the fish the most in our household, because you can get chicken and beef everywhere. They have many vegetarian options and I think the menu is generally one of the healthiest in town. You have to look at the menu option behind the register for some of the more specialized options in addition to the big menu when you walk in. He makes great margaritas! They have plenty of beer options and a fountain with lemonade and tea on the side. They even have horchata if I remember correctly. Funny thing, I believe the owner originated in Portland in the 1990's, so I think I remember meeting him in Portland in college before I transferred here to Reno in the Mid 90s. He moved here soon after that. I may have all the Portland stuff wrong but that's the way I remember it. Don't forget about the Salsa it makes the dish here. He lets the fish speak for itself so you can add the salsa. Buy the way his mango salsa is amazing too! They offer many more topping if you ask. Just ask. For 20+ years regulars have been flocking back to this location because they understand the menu. read more

Overpriced and underwhelming, especially in a town that now has a lot of good options for Mexican-American and true Mexican cuisine. If you like slushee-style margaritas (actually served from a frozen beverage machine ... 8oz for $5) fish tacos with all the flavor and texture of frozen fish sticks, and sauces that bear little resemblance to anything tasty or spicy, this will be your favorite restaurant in no time. Way too much for food way too bad and lacking flavor. With Tacos El Ray just up the road there's no reason to go to buenos. Qdoba up the road is even much better. A pleasant, informal space (with indoor and patio seating) with order-at-the-counter seafood-based Cal-Mexican food. I'm not a fan of the food. I love a good fish taco, but I didn't care for the tacos here. You don't get much fish for the money, and while the sauces sound appetizing (mango, spice rub, etc.) they all seem vaguely reminiscent of mayo or ranch dressing or something. I didn't care for their fish burrito, but to be fair I can't think of any time I thought a fish burrito was a good idea. The coconut-fried shrimp were OK. When I first moved to Reno 4 years ago, Buenos was one of the first Mexican places I visited, as it was close by. Although the prices are steep for what you get, it was decent enough food to satisfy the fact that I missed my Rubio's fish tacos. Subsequent visits, however, failed to satisfy on so many levels. The fish tacos and burritos lacked flavor, and it seemed to be such an imposition on the employees to take and prepare food orders. A simple order yielded a long wait, as well as an unnecessary emptying of my wallet. I still frequent other businesses in the Mayberry plaza, but steer clear of Buenos, as the quality has plummeted since I first discovered it. Much better Mexican food places nearby, like Anna's, Tacos el Rey, Abel's (in Verdi), and Casa Grande. Step it up, drop the prices, or close it down. read more

It's an alright choice for a lunch place. I ordered a baja taco. It came with some chips. They have a variety of salsa at the serve yourself salsa bar. A lot of people comment about the food being bland. I did find the baja fish taco a little on the flat side for taste. I went and found a salt shaker and added some salt to the fish. It really did make all the difference. Fish needs a little salt. Other people commented that the food didn't really seem like Mexican. It's a grill.
