We ordered: steak fajitas, chicken mole plate, and a cup of albondigas (meat balls) soup. The chips and salsa came complimentary and both were very good. We were starving after being on the road for several hours and they hit the spot! The albondigas soup was very homey and comforting. My picky child loved it, Especially the broth, packed with flavor and great for the cold day! The chicken mole was good too though a little on the sweet side. I mixed the salsa and it gave just the right amount of heat and additional savory flavors. The fajitas were good too. It seems They marinated the meat because it was packed with good flavors, not just salt and pepper only. We were happy with our meal and the bill.came to $57 before tip. Very reasonable for 3 people. Salsa had big chunks and a watery kick; chips were thick and homemade, though I'm a cantina-style chip girl myself. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros--a unique take but tasty. The rice & beans were some of the best I've had. Also got a taste of the Albondigas soup--hearty, flavorful, perfect comfort food. My kids had the Taco Salad and Burrito Panzón. I didn't try them, but no complaints and clean plates! No horchata or jamaica (super sad face), but the flan was light & smooth to make up for it. Service was quick and super attentive. My first and only visit so far, but I hope to return the next time I'm in Reno. From the moment we walked in, everyone made us feel like an extended family member. The service was fast--ridiculously fast--as in, we got our meals within 5 to 10 minutes. The restaurant is clean and efficient. The salsa was a cross of salsa and pico de gallo with a bit of a kick. The enchiladas were good but could use a bit more filling. My husbands crispy taco was soggy. The service was good and they we quick to bring more salsa. The ambiance was nice. There were mostly festive booths and a smattering of tables. I recently had surgery and was hospitalized for awhile, so my niece wanted to order food for my mom, to help out. My niece lives in San Jose, but was going to do DoorDash. I told her my mom hadn't had Mexican food for awhile and really liked refried beans and rice. So she ordered those sides, as well as some combo entrees. Ordered a burrito to be ready 4:25-4:30. At 4:12 I got the text that my burrito was ready. I'm 10 minutes away so my burrito wasn't hot when I picked it up. The steak inside was full of gristle. Despite being a tad pricier than other restaurants in the city, this restaurant out in the middle of nowhere is always packed with patrons and serving warm hugs on a plate. I grew up in New Mexico and am picky about my carnitas and enchiladas food. This place is legit. Few Mexican places cook good seafood - most overcook shrimp, fish, etc. Maria's is just right. The shrimp in cream sauce - I'm writing home about it! The first few times I was here, I wondered if there was a senior home across the street. lol. Every table was older. Well, Nonna took us here and ran into 2 other grandmas who also told their friends and family. Proof that word of mouth works! We have come back quite a few times. Perfectly crispy on the outside with flavorful, tender beef inside; every bite was packed with authentic taste and just the right amount of seasoning. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and everything came out hot and fresh. The staff was very friendly and made me feel right at home. We came here for dinner and had a good experience. The food we order came out quick and hot. The crispy taco plate was good. With that said. I've had better crispy tacos and other establishment. The taco wasn't that flavorful. However the Flautas and the Tacos Mexicanos were done nicely. The service was great. Everyone was pleasant and friendly. The server checked on us frequently. My husband and I wanted to try a new to us Mexican restaurant and since we've driven by this one a number of times we thought we'd give them a go. I ordered the nachos. Unfortunately I wasn't impressed. The cheese was too thick it was hard to eat... and the nachos lacked flavor. The margarita also seemed watered down and again lacked flavor. My husband liked his Mexican pizza though and the restaurant was clean and the staff friendly. The food came out pretty quickly also. Im on the hunt for some delicious nachos! I pulled off the freeway to avoid sitting in backed-up traffic. I was hungry, hadn't eaten all day. The restaurant looked to be a new building. Typical Mexican restaurant decor, paintings, sombreros and Modelo mirror. Walls are painted pretty bright. Chips and a very thin salsa was delivered to my table. I ordered a margarita on the rocks which arrived before I returned from washing my hands. Quick! Ordered molé enchiladas with shredded beef. Arrived quickly on a very hot plate Sparse amounts of refried beans and rice. The meal was excellent. Or I was just hungry. No garnish on the plate. Liberal amount of sauce. Decent price, $25+. We gave this place two chances and were equally disappointed both times. We tried the taco plate, taquitos, menudo, enchilada and chile relleno. Literally none of it was good. The chicken they use tastes like they forgot to season it. The taquitos are cut in half, which is.. unusual. The menudo was 'meh'. The beans are so flavorless and blended into the rice so well that my husband didn't notice them on his plate and asked me why I thought they didnt include them with his meal. After he had finished his meal. The salsa was pretty bland and tasted just like raw tomato. They also overuse the cheese and it's the kind with the visible oil that forms on the top. The service was strange. The first lady we dealt with was pretty friendly, the actual waitress was not, and didn't even want to attempt to make small talk, and the gentleman we dealt with a couple of times was overly shy. If you have any familiarity with Mexico, you could guess the area each of them were from just by their behavior towards us. Not necessarily a bad thing, but having to deal with so many personalities during one meal was unexpected. We don't plan to be back and wouldn't recommend it to others either. read more

I remember seeing this spot prior and I love giving a local restaurant a chance. The menu was clear, no substitutions. I ordered combo 10 and received the wrong order. It came out less than 2 minutes after it ordered. What ever, I'll just eat it. R minutes later a different waitress brought my real order. Half way thru the wrong order. No,worries but I then ordered a side of what I really wanted in the first place. It was good and so was the rest of my food. Average Mexican stuff. When I received my bill, there was a charge for a soda which I never ordered or received. Waitresses were so confused I just paid it and reduced my tip accordingly. The food is good, not over the top great but nothing to complain about. We ordered a margarita and it was made immediately and brought back to the table. We had driven by Maria's so many times that we finally decided to stop by for lunch to check it out. My theory on Mexican restaurants is to try their Mole Enchiladas. I was pleasantly surprised to see them on the menu here so I decided to try them with the chicken. They were delicious. My dining partner had the Tacos Mexicana and he reported that they were delicious as well. All in all a decent Mexican Restaurant! A little bit off the beaten path and with them closing at seven PM it makes it a little tight for a casual dinner. Just wow - Maria's is fantastic! This gem is located on the way from Reno to Verdi. Kind of on its own, the parking lot tends to be packed on a weekend night and the rooms filled with patrons enjoying margaritas and fantastic food. We came here with a big group and Maria was wonderful! Quite frankly if I ever need to host a large event again - I know where I'm going. Maria was easy to work with on pricing, menus, drink tickets, and more! They have a big back room and can convert multiple tables into long family style options. We recently moved to Reno from California and decided to give Maria's a try. We ordered takeout. The food was ready pretty quickly and I received a text when it was ready (no waiting around). When I went inside to pick up the food, I immediately noticed that the entire restaurant smelled amazing. 3 servers greeted me warmly. Very friendly. While I was waiting for them to bring my food out, one of the servers thanked me genuinely for coming in. We were blown away by how fabulous the food was. We both got chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. The tortillas were a little toasted and it sounds strange to say, but even the rice was amazing. It was the best Mexican I'd had in a long time. I ordered deep fried ice cream, since you rarely see that on menus these days. It was delicious. I wish I had taken photos of our food. You gotta try this place. It is right off of the freeway and just down the street from our neighborhood. So yummy! read more

My wife and I got carry out from here a couple days ago. We got a Mexican pizza, a carne asada quesadilla, Albondigas and a taco salad. Everything was delicious. Mexican pizza was humongous and I got 4 meals out of it! It was about $80 which at first I thought was a little pricey but we ate the food for a few days. This is a new restaurant for me and I am absolutely glad that I decided to try it. It is located outside of town on the way to Verdi. We were greeted immediately upon entering. It's a newer restaurant, very basic in decor but clean and bright and appropriately decorated. Chips and salsa were being delivered to our table as we were being seated. Menus were provided and we were offered a drink and we ordered margaritas. The menu is moderately priced and we had no idea what anything would be like so we decided on the chicken taquitos and a chicken chimichanga. Our drinks were delivered and they were good for a margarita. They actually tasted like the Costco Margaritas LOL but what's wrong with that? Our food was delivered with less than 15 minutes it was hot. The plate was steaming. Our entrees were served with a side of beans and rice. The rice was great. Fluffy and flavorful. The beans were very good. The chicken in our entrees is absolutely mouth watering. I can't describe how good and tender and juicy it was. we were both very, very surprised. The taquitos and chimichanga were packed with chicken. We could not finish our plates. We would have enjoyed trying some dessert but were just too full this evening.
