Another phenomenal night and dinner at Macho Tequila's, easily one of Reno's best hidden gems for excellent Mexican food. We were in a bit of a rush and were seated right away with fast and I amazing service. The lobby was decorated for Christmas already. I got a blue demon that was delicious and definitely didn't skimp on the alcohol and I ordered the carne asada flat steak plate. The steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly and it was easy to make some amazing makeshift tacos out of the fresh corn tortillas. The food here is great. It is a little hole in the wall that has good reviews that my husband saw, and we decided to try it. The owner was the one serving us, and he was pleasant. There was a review on the taco salad, so I tried the taco salad and my husband had the fish tacos. The tacos were good, the fish is grilled, not bread and fried, so that is a huge plus. I ordered the mango dressing for my asada taco salad, and it was so delicious. I dipped my chips in it. I will be getting a side of that the next time we eat there. They chips and salsa were good. The one salsa is hot, the heat keeps building, but couldn't stop eating it. Lol. We tried this place after seeing many comments from our neighbors on Nextdoor. The restaurant is very clean and has cute decoration. The menu has a lot of options, it is on the more expensive side from what I see at other Mexican restaurants. It took a bit longer to get the food but overall it was good food. My wife came to pick me up from the Yelp Elite Hana Garden event and got dinner here. Then she got a call and NEVER touched her dinner... So I guess we got lunch for tomorrow, lol. Quality/Quantity - Chicken Burrito - Generous size. Generous amount of chicken (and rice), almost no veggies though, so not perfectly balanced in my opinion. See picture. Also where were the beans and pico de gallo in the burrito? Again, see picture. There was also so little sauce for this huge burrito??? Well neither of us liked the sauce, but we also just came back from Trader Joes and got two different types of salsas. Plus when we were in CA, we brought back 8 avocados. So we made an amazing sauce which took this meal to 5 stars. Atmosphere - Good size local business. Plenty of mall parking, even with a huge Yelp event going on. Indoor seating only, table or bar. Open 6 days a week from 11am to 9pm, closed Tuesdays. Yelp hours differ slightly. Cool decor. Service - 5 stars. My wife met with the owner and he was very welcoming. He had many suggestive sells. Darling Mexican restaurant I Sparks with a full bar. Started off with complimentary chips and salsa-loved that they had both green and red-and a delicious michelada. My husband had the chile relleno and I had the mango shrimp. He loved the relleno but the shrimp was the star of the meal. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and the sauce was so unique and delicious with the perfect hint of sweetness. It came with rice (which I mixed with the sauce) beans, guacamole and tortillas. My husband and I stumbled upon Macho Tequilas after our original plan to hit the Korean wing spot next door fell through--turns out they weren't open during the hours listed, and I was a little salty at first. Stopped here on a Monday afternoon Round 4:30 and surprisingly it was empty. I've been wanting to try their Monday special which is 4 tacos for $5.50. They still have the special but tacos are now chicken tacos and it's $5.72 for 4 which is still a great deal for street tacos! Tacos were really good w their house red or green salsa. Green is pretty spicy but I love it! Wife got tamales which she said were very good as well. The interior is very nice w some photos and decorations along the walls. Nice place to eat at. They also give 4% off if you pay with cash. Although Macho is a bit of a drive from our house we think it is well worth the extra travel time. We were in the area around the corner from Macho Tequila's so as part of my quest to find a Mexican place worth returning to, we decided to check it out. After considering the over all experience I've decided that this restaurant reminds we of an old Clint Eastwood movie, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. First the Good: The chips were thick, not greasy and they were crisp. Two types of salsa were served, a red and green, both with good flavor but I favored the green. the lettuce and tomato garnish on the plates were crisp and fresh. My husband's Flautas were crispy and accompanied with a good amount of guacamole and sour cream. The rice and beans that came with my chimichanga were pretty tasty. The Bad: My carnitas chimi was over fried and hard to cut into. The carnitas filling was dry and overcooked. The host/ waiter while civil was hardly welcoming but attentive enough. Lastly, The Ugly: the glass doors were beyond filthy with a million greasy finger prints. These doors are the first thing a customer sees! The dining area was dimly lit which gave me the further impression that grime was abundant. A dish tub sat abandoned on a table close to ours. I honestly don't know how this restaurant passes a health inspection. All said and done Let's just say my quest for the best continues. I won't be returning here. read more

Five stars, easily. 10/10 overall dining experience. What a gem of a restaurant! I am so glad we stumbled onto one of the only places open on the 4th of July, because we were so happy when we left this place. We ordered a Cadillac margarita (10/10) and a house spicy margarita made with their own tequila (8/10). Then we moved to chips, salsa and guacamole which was simply wonderful. For entrees, we had the shredded beef Flautas (10/10, so flavorful and delicious) and the Danny Boy fajitas (8/10). We were so full and satisfied after, so we didn't even have room for dessert. But we will definitely be coming back again soon. We live in Los Angeles, CA and so are accustomed to some of the best and most authentic Mexican food in the world. Macho Tequila's is one of the best of the best, and could easily go head to head with any authentic Mexican restaurant in Mexico, California and Nevada. We were craving mexican food for dinner with a friend who lives nearby this place. The reviews sounded good and the food described as authentic. We arrived at 7pm on a Wednesday. It was not busy and our host who seated us was friendly. I really liked the "old school" vibe inside. I decided to try the #11 Carnita plate. The carnita meat was flavorful and not greasy. The beans were so good and even though I've never had mexican rice served white in color, it tasted great also. I only wish that my meat was a little less dry. My friend ordered the Chicken Fajita platter and she really enjoyed it. Huge portion of food and the flour tortillas were homemade! Our server was by himself the entire time managing the bar, seating and waiting tables. He had a great personality and asked us a few times how we were doing. Nice guy! The food was great! Husband got the sopes with pastor. The pastor was delicious, his plate had bright fresh veggies. I had the mango shrimp which was sweet mango sauce and shrimp. The refried beans were perfectly seasoned along with the rice. I'm not mad it didn't have any red color to it, which could be from red dye 40 in the tomato bullion that many places use. Rice was flavorful and delicious. Chips and salsa were also a go! The green salsa was spicy and the red salsa had a nice warm heat and almost sweet tomato flavor. First time here. Came here for dinner after looking through yelp. The place was pretty much empty. We were the only customers. The parking lot was a bit dark and empty. It looks a bit sketchy. We ordered two plates to share. We had the plain burrito with carne asada since we opted out of the spicy one. Those were the two choices, plain or spicy. We also got the famous Mack combination with chicken (taco & enchilada). Chip and salsas were complimentary. Burrito: the flavor was decent. The meat was a bit dry. Burrito size was a bit smaller than other places I've been too. Overall, it was okay. The famous Mack combination: it's disappointing. Not worth $15 in my book. Food came out on a big plate filled with rice and beans to make it look full. Both the taco and enchiladas were crazy small. They're like kids size meal. You could literally finish them in two bites especially the enchilada. It was small and thin with barely any meat. You could barely taste the flavor. The taco was small but had more meat than the enchilada. The rice was pretty plain. Overall, this dish is disappointing and would not recommend.
