The staff was so friendly on a late night before a holiday weekend, and that was the first thing we noticed! We had four different servers and hosts check in on us and make sure we had drinks and chips right away. Even when one of the waitresses needed to come back and confirm the four types of margaritas we needed, we respected them trying to get it right the first time instead of guessing and giving us the wrong items. The margs themselves were tall pours and strong yet still refreshing and sweet. The pomegranate and strawberry were especially good. The food was also bomb. The house made tomato salsa was so tasty, the perfect blend of mild heat and acidity. Their new beef birria quesadilla was full of juicy, well-marinated meat and stuffed with plenty of melty cheese. Throw in the consomé, green salsa, and lime juice and I found a new favorite dish here in Reno. The ambience is your good old fashioned homey Mexican cafe with njce low lighting and colorful adornments hanging around the walls. We were hungry for some good Mexican we decided to go to Murrieta's today. Haven't been here in a long time. But always a big fan. Chips, salsa and pico were brought to us. The chips are warm, fresh and crunchy. Love the pico. Salsa is smoky and balanced. Not too spicy but flavorful. My husband got the biggest margarita so good and strong !!! We split a Molcajet which is a combo of steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, cactus, onion in this delicious sauce served with rice and beans. I love the whole pinto beans. Rice is fluffy and flavorful. The Molcajete. Omg sooooo good. My husband never had it before and he loved it. The service is great and love the vibes of old school Mexican restaurants. There are also a patio. I had my first chile relleno here and several spots around town do not compare to this one! Everyone is always very friendly, fast, and knowledgeable about their restaurant and food! Looks can be deceiving. We had a late dinner with friends, wanting "Simple Mexican" we thought Murrieta's would be a good option. Once the food arrived, everthing look actually quite good. The dishes were served hot and the cheese nicely melted over the beans. Sweet. However, once we dug in the experience was something quite different. I had Cheese Enchiladas. Your most basic of Enchiladas. The cheese inside the enchiladas was barely melted, so basically i was eating cold cheese wrapped in a tortilla. Once I pulled the cheese away from the refried beans, I found the beans to be quite runny. My wife had the Carne Asada. While I didn't try her dish, she said that it was basically inedible, lacking any sense of flavor and a gummy/rubbery texture. Based on the amount we took home, it further substantiates her experience. Our waitress was nice enough. Pleasant and seemed quite helpful. What was odd was that she was hardly available. We had to wait a long time for her to come back, just so we could ask for some straws. We were there near closing, so the place was empty. I'm always happy when I go to murrieta's and today was no exception! We went after the lunch hour and I had a buy one get one 1/2 price to use so we stopped in and were greeted warmly and seated right away. Water arrived quickly and chips and 2 salsas.... We chatted a bit and then the friendly server took our order, added our discount and asked if we wanted anything besides water to drink. I had the fish tacos and my sister had the fajitas combination. Too much food for 1 sitting so I will have some lovely food for tomorrow. The large shrimp cocktail is my favorite thing on the menu! Today's was excellent! Shrimp was perfectly cooked and cold! Lots of avocados and it was just as spicy as I love, came with crackers, Salsa and pico de gallo came with chips. What I really appreciated was my basket of chips was not so huge that I wasted most of them. I come here for the shrimp cocktail and the Pacifico on draft, a real rarity! I never have to wait long for a table, the service is always fast, restaurant is clean, and the environment is comfortable. If/when it's brought to their attention, there very defensive and rude/aggressive. it's nice that the owner, and other staff try to make up for it but they shouldn't have to. I had been going mainly for the bar, but on multiple occasions the bartender and made it painfully obvious that decent customer service is reserved for her friends, like the other employees brought chips & salsa and water - because they were hanging out at the other side of the bar, they also don't follow their own drink comp rules. Friday night, at 8:45 p.m. I attempted to have dinner. Door locked and closed even tho7they advertised closed at 10 p.m.. I did notice staff partying and drinking through the windows. So my advice is if it is 7p.m. you should avoid this restaurant. Employees rather drink than keep open. read more

I really like Murrieta's, the service has always been pleasant and the food hot, fresh and enjoyable. I enjoy the variety of salsas that they have and their seafood enchiladas and enchiladas de Cameron, are particularly tasty. Definitely recommend them for lunch or dinner if you're in the area. read more

We met up with some friends at Murrieta's for lunch the other day for my sister's pre-birthday celebration. When we arrived at the restaurant, they had just opened for lunch service, so they had customers but not overly busy. Our 4-person party was seated at a table near the entrance. The staff was also able to accommodate the infant and a late arrival in our party. Aside from the complimentary chips and salsa 3 people ordered the birria plate for our main entrees while the other two went for their new $10 bowls. There was a minimal amount of wait but the food arrived hot and/or fresh; everyone enjoyed their entrees. After lunch, my friend also decided to imbibe in something sweet; she chose a flan for dessert. All the food tasted great and even though this place is a little out of the way, we come here for the birria because we thoroughly enjoy it so much. If I have one critique during this visit, it would be on the service. Maybe the gentleman was new and we were unfamiliar but he was cold and indifferent, he was still very polite and accommodating but just very abrupt and no none sense; maybe it was just his nature. Imagine you walk into this restaurant, after driving a good ways to get there, it's over an hour before the stated closing time. You walk in and you sense trouble immediately. The hostess has the biggest frown on her face. She wanted to go home. She informed you immediately that you can order as long as you do it in the next 2 minutes. Yeap. She gave us exactly 2 minutes. I said can I get 5? And she looked even more disappointed and said no. So if you go here good luck on getting a smiling face, finding the restaurant open during their posted hours, or seeing clean carpet. If the owners see this and care at all, CHANGE YOUR POSTED HOURS FOR WHAT YOUR EMPLOYEES TELL YOU THEY WANT TO WORK. Because the last thing they want to see within 2 hours of closing is a paying customer. I hope they close. read more

This is on of my friends' favorite places to eat, and I can see why. It's a pleasant spot, easy to find, lots of parking, and great fate on offer. I wound up going with The Jeffe combo plate (one each of a tamale, enchilada, and chili relleno, along with beans and rice). This gargantuan plate really hit the spot, and had plenty of leftovers. So I think the value you get here is quite good, as they certainly don't skimp on portions. Prices for entrees are maybe in the $18-22 range for most things. Pretty extensive menu, too, and I want to try some of their specialties when next I'm swinging by. Service is outstanding. The staff are very friendly, and orders get served up surprisingly fast. Plus, the bar staff are on point, even on busy evenings. And speaking of the bar... Their assorted house margaritas are really delicious! So yeah, all in all this is a good neighborhood, family spot. We always have an excellent experience at Murrieta's. We love the staff, the piping hot and fresh food, great margarita choices, and overall feel of the restaurant. It is always clean and well organized. There's so much space and the outside patio is great too! I feel like I almost always order the same thing which is a Carne Asada Pambazo and ground beef Gordita. But it's phenomenal every time and the dipping sauce for the Pambazo and Gordita is an absolute must! The food, and friendly and quick staff never disappoint. First time eating here and we got some food for takeout and this is our new favorite restaurant! We got the burrito and enchiladas (#3 and #12) and they had so much meat and melted cheese so delicious, the spicy shrimp which were cooked perfectly and so flavorful, and the fried ice cream was fantastic! I appreciated that they included chips and salsa and guacamole for free because restaurants will usually not include that in a take out order. Best Mexican food I've had in a long time! We come here every so often and find the food and service is good! We came here tonight because I received a text offer for 1/2 off meal with purchase of a meal. There were 3 adults and 2 kids. We were seated quickly and drink orders taken. He returned promptly to take our orders. I ordered the Chimichanga with shredded beef... this thing is huge!! Another ordered the Taco Salad with ground beef.... Another big portion! 4rd person ordered Tortas Ahogadas (I think!). The kids ordered cheese quesadillas. Everything came out quickly and was still hot from the kitchen. Everyone was very complimentary about the food taste and temperature. In the end, we forgot to use the text coupon!! 10/16/2023- Regular go to place is closed on Monday's.. Driving down the main Street, decided to stop in. I thought we had visited before, but could not find my review. Busy at dinner, but was able to be seated right away. Seemed to be a local hangout as the staff was definitely more friendly ..to their regulars.. Lightening was very dark inside and place is rather large. Big menu- lots of choices.. Ordered the combo of a street taco and chicken enchilada- Also got a side dish of a chicken enchilada suiza.. Chips and salsa were also served- decent chunky salsa and another spicy salsa- hot sauce type. I liked the street taco - meat was diced and not fatty.. Rice and beans definitely needed some spices- very bland- Enchilada suiza was decent but lacking seasoning. Prices were standard. read more

We decided to do a shot and our tremendously friendly waiter Jesus recommended the Don Julio Reposado. While it made my eyes water, it was also ultra smooth. We bought another 16oz red salsa to go because I ordered it once for delivery thinking it wouldn't really be that big (it was), and my husband used it on everything. Hubby got the #1 two taco plate. Murriettas is a long time favorite for me. I used to walk to their Longley and McCarran location from my house when I was a kid. I can say that the food quality in the last 20 years of my life that I can remember, has not changed. They give large hearty portions. And they've always been open to my order. My go to his a plate of cheese nachos with red enchilada sauce on the side they provide you toppings on the side. And they do not skip on the cheese using both queso and shredded cheese. This is my ultimate comfort meal in Reno. It takes about 15 minutes when I call in the order. They've also got a big spacious bar with big TVs. Dinner date with the husband turned out quite well. Decided on Murrieta's about 5pm on a Friday evening and were seated immediately. We'd been here before but it's been about a year. The customer service was great; we were waited on by a woman named Nettie. She was very friendly, happily offered conversation and helped us with our menu selection. We went with chorizo fries, flour tortilla taquitos and a combination plate. The fries lacked salt but we were able to fix that right up. The taquitos and combination plate were delicious. All choices were a good serving size and had some left over to take home. With regards to the cocktails, the pepino margarita with the 21 seeds tequila was by far the best choice of the evening. It has a raw but great taste. The strawberry margarita lacked alcohol but the house margarita was pretty good. The restaurant had a comfortable casual ambiance with light music playing in the background. Parking was easy, restaurant was about half full and staff was very tendful. Came here with my fiance for dinner. The inside was pretty busy but we were sitting right away. Underneath the table we sat at was dirty. Underneath was chips and lots of trash. The table was cleaned though. They brought us chips, salsa and pico. The pico tasted pretty fresh, could've tasted more fresh in my opinion. The tomatoes were a little mushy. I had the Birria special and my fiance had the chimichanga. He liked his chimichanga but didn't care much for the rice. I liked the tacos but there wasn't any cheese in it. The meat in it though was tender and the rice and beans I personally did like. The portions were huge that we had leftovers. It is a little pricey but I would eat here again! read more
