Mole Enchiladas: mild spice, more smokey rather than chocolatey
Laura C.

I'm stuck between a 3 and 4 for Murrieta's, let's call it a 3.5. The items I've had are good just not the best Mexican food I've ever had. What I do like is that Murrieta's seems to be consistent. I never have to wait long for a table, the service is always fast, restaurant is clean, and the environment is comfortable. Occasionally a guitarist is walking the restaurant too which is nice if you're looking to enjoy a little traditional ambiance and/or are dining out with kids who would enjoy a little entertainment while they wait.

The best cocktail de camarones in Reno!
Kit O.

The large shrimp cocktail is my favorite thing on the menu! Today's was excellent! Shrimp was perfectly cooked and cold! Lots of avocados and it was just as spicy as I love, came with crackers, Salsa and pico de gallo came with chips. What I really appreciated was my basket of chips was not so huge that I wasted most of them. I come here for the shrimp cocktail and the Pacifico on draft, a real rarity! I will be getting back to my regular routine of coming in once a week!

Piping hot Combo Fajitas

Still love this place. Food and service always spot on. I do wish they would do a deep clean and maybe small makeover of the place. It is starting to look a bit run down. However, we still love to come!

Chimichanga, rice and beans, Yum!!!

The La Changa! Excellent! Generous potions (took home enough for almost 2 meals!) the waitress was so sweet, very attentive and so good at her job! Despite it busy here, she made time to check in on all the tables and made a genuine connection with everyone. The atmosphere is relaxing, quite yet up beat Definitely a favorite place for authentic Mexican cuisine!

We met up with some friends at Murrieta's for lunch the other day for my sister's pre-birthday celebration. When we arrived at the restaurant, they had just opened for lunch service, so they had customers but not overly busy. Our 4-person party was seated at a table near the entrance. The staff was also able to accommodate the infant and a late arrival in our party. Aside from the complimentary chips and salsa 3 people ordered the birria plate for our main entrees while the other two went for their new $10 bowls. There was a minimal amount of wait but the food arrived hot and/or fresh; everyone enjoyed their entrees. After lunch, my friend also decided to imbibe in something sweet; she chose a flan for dessert. All the food tasted great and even though this place is a little out of the way, we come here for the birria because we thoroughly enjoy it so much. If I have one critique during this visit, it would be on the service. Maybe the gentleman was new and we were unfamiliar but he was cold and indifferent, he was still very polite and accommodating but just very abrupt and no none sense; maybe it was just his nature. Other than that, I would say on the whole, we still had a pleasant meal.

Beef chimichanga combo plate - huge

Meh - it was ok. Nothing that made me say wow. The portions are huge though. I had a shredded beef chimichanga combo with rice and beans and a Murrieta Margarita - I'll have leftovers for days.

Beef tacos

We were greeted and seated promptly by a friendly hostess. Food: Excellent! All dishes were hot off the grill and very tasty. We tried a combo plate with cheese enchilada and beef taco, Three crispy beef tacos with dipping consume (it was a new dish, sorry forgot the exact name) Ambiance is dark and cozy. Festive and fun but not too loud. I recommend this if you want good Mexican food.

Carne Asada a plate.

The food is amazing. The service is the best around and I love the atmosphere. I love that they love the Lakers.

Tortas Ahogadas

We come here every so often and find the food and service is good! We came here tonight because I received a text offer for 1/2 off meal with purchase of a meal. There were 3 adults and 2 kids. We were seated quickly and drink orders taken. He returned promptly to take our orders. I ordered the Chimichanga with shredded beef... this thing is huge!! Another ordered the Taco Salad with ground beef.... Another big portion! 4rd person ordered Tortas Ahogadas (I think!). The kids ordered cheese quesadillas. Everything came out quickly and was still hot from the kitchen. Everyone was very complimentary about the food taste and temperature. In the end, we forgot to use the text coupon!! I guess we will have to go back soon!

After a really fun day of day drinking,I found myself looking for something yummy to eat and maybe…read moresober me up a bit-I stumbled upon this little unassuming place located right across the street from Silver Legacy-Los Gallos Taqueria. Upon walking in,I was impressed with the patrons, this was a no frills crowd who looked like they were all in on a secret that this place was going to be a really good foodie spot. This is one of those spots where u walk up and order at the counter and they bring your food out to you.I loved the decor as you can really tell the owners are proud of their Jalisco roots. As an added bonus-I do tend to like taquerias that have pics of the menu items on the walls-always been a good luck charm for me that the place would be pretty good. We ordered a few things-A Super Burrito with Al Pastor($13.50)-it was pretty tasty-way way filling-killed my buzz totally-which I guess was the goal-I'd order it again for sure.We Also got a Shrimp taco($5)My wife is from Jalisco,so kinda picky with her Mexican food but she thought it was pretty tasty-one of the most flavorful tacos she has had in a long time.We also got the 2 enchilada plate with ground beef and chicken($15.50)-This dish came with rice and bean-I really liked the rice quite a bit and beans went well with the chips because of the added cheese on the beans. One thing I didn't love was the fact that you had to pay for chips and salsa-I'm sure I'm just spoiled from all the places that gives those out for free but I guess that's the way it goes-pretty sure it was like $3-no biggie. In closing-if u ever find yourself in Reno and u want something other than the commercial stuff they sell in the casinos-I would highly recommend walking across the street from Silver Legacy and walk into this little hole in the wall hidden gem of a restaurant and enjoy yourself a taste of Jalisco -you won't be disappointed.

Let's be honest. When I'm looking for an out of town Mexican spot, I look for 2 things: A little…read morebit of dinginess and lots of actual Mexicans eating there. Los Gallos covered those two needs perfectly. Located on the main ave across from Circus Circus. Kinda cool pawn shops too but didn't have time to check them out. Walking in, it def has the authentic dinginess that is usually synonymous with authentic tasting food. Lots of handmade signs and pictures of food on the walls. And also lots of pictures from their hometown. It was a Monday afternoon and there were many local Mexican families eating there which is another great sign. Ordering was pretty easy. After doing me best To order in Spanish I realized the lady working there spoke perfect English. Haha. I ordered a shrimp burrito with everything and 3 street tacos all to go. It took a long time for the food to come out. There was a large party order that they were getting ready so I waited a long time. It was so long that I expected them to offer me a free coffee or soda but they didn't. The food finally came and it was a solid 4. The shrimp burrito was tasty and the shrimp was cooked really well. The tacos were good too. I'll def be back next time I'm in Reno.

Given that we are from Jalisco we wanted to try out this location and let me tell you…read more... From the first bite, it's clear this place takes tortas ahogadas seriously. The bread arrives with that perfect crusty exterior and airy interior that holds up beautifully once it's "drowned" in the vibrant, slightly spicy tomato-chile sauce. The pork inside is tender and flavorful, and the balance of acidity, heat, and richness feels fresh rather than heavy. It tastes remarkably close to what you'd find in Jalisco, which makes it feel genuinely authentic rather than a watered-down version for tourists. We also got tacos dorados de papa and those were pretty amazing too. The micheladas and chavelas are just as impressive. They're crisp, well-seasoned, and perfectly chilled, with just the right amount of lime, spice, and salt on the rim. They pair incredibly well with the tortas and make the whole meal feel even more special. On top of the food and drinks, the service really elevates the experience. The staff is attentive, friendly, and clearly proud of what they serve, checking in just enough without hovering. Overall, it's a spot that delivers on flavor, authenticity, and hospitality, making it a standout choice for anyone craving great Mexican comfort food. Will definitely be coming back.

But once I tasted it I realized it may be small in size but it is MIGHTY in flavor. Positively delicious. The sauce might be thin but I ended up using a spoon to slurp up every last bit of sauce after the Rellano was finished. So I was NOT at all disappointed in the Rellano. In fact, because I was still hungry I had room for their homemade Flan. I asked for extra sauce if possible. I was very pleased. There are many varieties of flan. I personally prefer a more textured variety that I refer to as Rustic. I would call this variety a very traditional SMOOTH variety. The flavor is wonderful. It was delicious. And NOW I am full and satisfied. This restaurant is at the end of the shopping center. Parking is great. If you find this review helpful please VOTE!
