We tried this place out for dinner the other night. It was pretty good. We ordered a fajita combo and El Favorito De Don Murrieta Special. Both came with tortillas and were delicious. The El Favorito special was huge and tasty. We took home leftovers. The staff were very friendly and food came out quickly considering it seemed fairly busy. Customers coming in and out, which was great to see. The booth we were in was a little dark but the shades seemed drawn due to the sun coming in. So they were probably preventing it from getting hot. There's a bar area when you walk in with TVs and the host stand is on the right. I'd go back because there are a few dishes I'd like to try. read more

Great service with kind staff. The combo fajitas were good with fresh veggies. The meat was a tad bit over cooked but the flavors were good. We were seated quickly and our table was serviced often. First time in. Late afternoon/early evening. Very nice inside. Just myself. Got seated right away. Asked for Margareta on the rocks. Took a while, & I could hear the blender . Sure enough came blended, but blending sat on top of a cloudy liquid . Ok, I'll take it. Didn't bode well for my order...took a sip-horrible! I do t know what that drink was, but the worst flavor! Not any kinda of tequila I've ever tasted. Ordered the Baja fish tacos & sent the drink back & got a draft Pacifico. Much better . Fish tacos came with black whole beans, & light fluffy rice. What a great place! Super friendly staff and great food. They start you off with chips and a couple salsa's, both were really good. The Cooked shrimp ceviche is super fresh and had wonderful flavor. You can't go wrong with the chicken enchiladas, very moist chicken and not too much sauce. Some places drown their enchiladas in sauce since the chicken is dry, but not this place, they do it right! My husband loved the Fajitas and he got a combination of steak and chicken. This is a great family owned and operated place and everyone is friendly. My first trip to this place, not too bad since it was close for my friends to drive to. I have weakness for chile relleno whenever I go to a Mexican restaurant. I came on a recent Sunday afternoon with my parents for a sit down lunch. I hadn't been here in a couple years but had good experiences in the past. We were seated quickly at a table next to the bar right where the staff enters or exits the kitchen. It was not particularly busy. We were given menus, water, chips and salsa right away, then didn't get checked on for about 10 minutes (even though in direct view of all staff leaving the kitchen). We placed our orders and then proceeded to wait for 40-45 minutes before our food arrived. Water, chips and salsa were refilled during that time. My Dad and i each ordered the carnitas lunch plate. The pork was roasted without seasonings and came out dry and bland. It was mediocre at best. My Mom ordered shrimp fajitas and she said they were good. We have visited other establishments in town that have delivered a better experience and much better food. I was very disappointed with the service, but most of all by the food. I doubt I'll return again unless I start to see some better reviews. read more

I have had better food at Murrieta's. I ordered the pozole for lunch in a place that was at about 25% capacity. After approx 15 min our orders arrived. The pozole look mouthwatering delectable and I was hungry. The pozole was served with the usual condiments, shredded cabbage, cilantro, onions, dried chiles, and a tostada. I went through the usual ritual and added the condiments. After my first spoonful, the disappointment set in: lukewarm pozole. Not for me! Kitchen staff failed. Not only was my bowl of pozole lukewarm, the broth was tasteless, flat as in little or no spices. This place is ok. We like Casa Grande better but Murrieta's is closer to home. I do really like their albondigas soup, its one of the better ones around. We also really like the queso fundito that they have for an appetizer but it could be a meal. My husband and I like to sit at the bar and play the machines a little. What I don't like is that they don't have a players club so no rewards or points or anything for playing. You do get one drink per 20 put in so if you win more than 40 bucks cash it out and put another 20 in if you want your drinks comped. I got a 4 of a kind winning 100 bucks played it down to 0 and the guy still charged me for 2 drinks. Lesson learned. Its a good local place to support read more

Retirement Home Mexican Food. The wife and I each got a different combination so between us we had the tamal, enchiladas, tacos and chili relano. All were incredibly bland. The wife said, "The salsa was the first clue.". It had no flavor at all. That was the tone for the meal. The rice was just this side of plain white rice. The refried beans had no personality. The pork tamal was doughy and the pork felt processed. Everything was just bland. Institutional even. Like hospital Mexican food. Our waitress was juggling 3 sections plus the outdoor seating. I've had the pleasure of dining here on a few occasions with friends. The drinks are fantastic although I feel like some of the prices can be a bit high at times. My food is always pretty usual Mexican fanfare and I haven't been disappointed by anything but nothing has stuck out to me as a favorite yet. The margarita, not at all, I asked for a better tequila than the house one, which was gold Jose Cuervo & the bartender said I wouldn't taste the difference so she didn't do it for me. I definitely tasted the difference, & it was chunky from the ice & not good. I sat at the bar top so I expected better service, but the bartender was a lot more attentive to the male customers, who were regulars from what I noticed. Murrietas isn't bad but it's not good. Today was my husband's birthday and he requested murrietas for lunch, so what the birthday boy wants, the birthday boy gets. My husband loves this place but even he said no more after today. We ordered a half order of bean dip but the green sauce tasted off. Then for lunch we had a 2 cheese enchilada plate and a combo plate of cheese enchilada and pork tamale. The beans here are the star of the show. The rice is the driest ever I'm not sure how they do that. My husband's cheese enchiladas had super hard tortillas, and my pork tamale was just not edible at all. Our server was nice enough and got our order correct, but never came by to check on us until he brought the check. They have a large menu with a good variety of options including one of the widest selections of meat options for a fine Mexican resturaunt in the area. The Chili popper is a great appetizer and we love the pazole too. I had the steak fajitas which could use a little more seasoning and my wifes chicken taco was pretty dry and over cooked but overall a good dining experience. Great place for a large group or just a couple. Had 6 in our party and got a big table on the upper level. They didn't skimp on the chips and salsa and we had 3 baskets and 3 hot salsas and 3 pico de Gallo which was fresh and tasty . Our servers were attentive and our water glasses were kept full. I ordered Mole chicken enchiladas, rice and black beans and I practically licked my plate clean! Everyone enjoyed their food too and it all came out together except one dish which came in a few minutes but all were hot and presented nicely with guacamole, sour cream and a pickled Jalapeño.
