Just missed happy hour so off the regular menu we go. All of the normal choices. Wife went with the carnitas plate!! The carnitas were great, good flavor, perfect sear. Beans and rice good as well. I had the grilled fish tacos with pinto beans and guacamole. The fish was grilled and came out almost like a burria taco - flavor was awesome though not a traditional fish taco. Pinto beans were great and guacamole had a very good flavor as well. Chips were awesome, salsa though thin has a good flavor. Margaritas and Ranch Waters were good as well. Sat at a high top in the bar area, about five gaming machines and a couple extra seats at bar. Had a good crowd for a Monday night. We'll definitely be back, even without a gift card. read more

The food was not great. Not a lot of authentic options. No agua de jamaica. I got the chilaquiles without rice and it was just cheesy and greasy. The waiters only filled our water once and never checked on us. I hope I don't come back to eat here. We got sat in a corner so I didn't get to enjoy the ambiance besides staring at a plant and wall. I really liked their chile relleno, they use a different chile than what I'm familiar with, I like that it does not have a lot of seeds that is encountered by other restaurants. 11/23 Today came for some lunch . Unfortunately today was an off day. Today the chips a little stale and didn't know this but they charge an extra $3 for their habanero salsa. Seems a bit much. I had the 1/2 order of nachos w/al pastor. It was ok. Some of the chips were burnt and the meat was ok not a lot and seemed to be lacking flavor today. Very disappointing! We have been here before and it was ok. Decided to give another try. I wanted something off kids menu as I wasn't that hungry and with chips and all it would have been the right amount, but Helen our waitress would let me order what I really wanted. So I opted for a #9 (taco with rice and beans. Asked what the charge for fish in taco would be and she said 1.50. I said ok. There was a nice amount of fish in taco but she'll want super crispy (half crispy half soggy. ) definitely have had way better fish tacos before from other places. When we got the bill, the up charge was actually three dollars. Normally, that is not a big deal to me, but I think it was like her attitude and lack of friendliness as a waitress. Wow! The food was very good and somewhat unique. Their salsa is smooth but tasty. Reminds me of what I love about Taco Bell, but better because it's not fast food. The sauce on the shrimp was delicious. Not sure what kind of chiles they use, with all the seeds, but so tasty. The chicarones were fresh salty and delicious. This place is always busy pretty much saying people come here again and again for the delicious, authentic Mexican food. The combination plate is a great way to try three different main dishes accompanied by beans and rice. I had the chile relleno, which was a large chile covered with a fluffy egg and cheese batter, prepared perfectly. Also, I had the chicken enchilada which was plentiful, tasty and fresh. The chile Colorado was served in its own bowl alongside the huge main plate. That tells you how much food was included in the combo plate!! The service was professional, proficient and friendly. The drinks were quite impressive with our table having margaritas of different natures, beers and wines. The ambiance is family friendly, comfortable and colorful. My favorite spot to get margaritas in Northern NV! From the food, staff, and drinks everything is great at this location. I've come to this spot year after year and I always leave very happy and extremely full. The staff is very welcoming from the moment you walk in the door. They always keep this place very clean and they make sure they have cumbia or some great Mexican music playing to set the vibe. I usually order the chimichanga or in this picture I just got their street tacos with steak. Absolutely delicious. Funny enough this restaurant has some of the best french fries in Reno IMO. I had lunch here today with my friend. Los Compradres is located in the SouthCreek shopping center. My friend and I were immediately seated in a comfy booth. We were served chips and a blended salsa that wasn't too spicy but just had a little kick. I ordered from the lunch menu. I chose a shredded beef enchilada with rice and beans. I was served a generous portion of food for the price. The beef in the enchilada was tender and juicy with just the right amount of enchilada sauce. The rice and beans complemented the enchilada. This is the first time we've been back to Los Compadres after a pretty bad meal, so we were eager to see if the food improved. Having dinner with friends on a Friday night, the place was predictably hopping but we were still seated pretty quickly. Our waitress was nice and polite and took care of us in spite of the quickly filling restaurant. The chips at Los Compadres are legit. Crispy and flavorful, it was disappointing that the accompanying salsa were so bland and completely lacking of flavor. I ordered the Menudo, surprised they served it on a weekday. The waitress asked if I wanted the "Pata" and I said sure. What a huge mistake. While the Menudo was actually quite good, but there was little actual Tripe and Hominy. What I had was a pile of Pata bones and not much else. What a waste of a potentially good dish. My dish was served with corn tortillas, which would typically be warmed in a steamer, leaving them warm, soft and hot. Not sure what happened to these but they were dry, hard and basically inedible. My wife ordered the Carne Asada. Her dish looked amazing but upon closer inspection, it was clearly under the heating lamps too long as the beans were a solid chunk of something and the rice was dry and formed into blocks of inedible decorations. Her steak was over cooked and her serving was 1/3 fat. If I thought the corn tortillas were bad, that was nothing compared to my wife's flour tortillas. They were dry and heat formed into a rolled block of concrete. These WERE completely inedible. If it were not for our friends, that recommended Los Compadres, we would have sent the food back, but instead we enjoyed our company and warmed up some left overs we had at the house. Do not come here if you aren't a white person honestly. I would give this place NO STARS if possible. I've lived in Reno for almost six years now, and many times in those six years have my family and I come to this restaurant to give it a second chance, and every single time they some how top the last time in awful food and service. I noticed quickly that every other person who comes to this restaurant and recommends it is a white person. My family is Mexican, makes sense for us to go to a MEXICAN restaurant? Every time we come here we get stares from the other diners because we are the only people of color in the restaurant who aren't serving them. It's awkward. Not only that? Every time we come here the service is horrible. Not by the standard of the staff is always rude, but we get ignored the whole time. This specific evening we've gone, ten minutes for anyone to even bring us waters and silverware. (They didn't even say anything, just dropped it off.) Another ten minutes until someone finally greets us and asks for drinks. Another 40 for our food to come out. They only checked on us once right when the food got there and that's it. We sat for 20 minutes after we finished eating and even then, we had to ask for the check. Throughout the whole service we didn't get any drink refills or any check ins besides the one time. Mind you, the entire time, many servers were walking right past us checking in SEVERAL times on the people around us, who surprise were all white people. Staring at us the entire time like we didn't even belong. Poor service. Terrible environment. Not very welcoming. It's as if we were a chore to take care of. And yes, we were very polite to the staff regardless. It's not like we were behaving poorly or being rude giving dirty looks. All smiles. And still tipped. read more

We ordered a skinny margarita and a regular margarita. For lunch we enjoyed the chicken enchiladas and chicken taquitos appetizer which was served with guacamole and sour cream. We have door dashed this restaurant in the past, but decided to go in this time. It was a good experience. We were seated right away. The place was busy and continued to pick up while we were there. They had lots of indoor seating plus an outdoor patio area too. The bar area was nice with high tops and bar seating. Their chips and salsa were super tasty. They provide a mild and hot salsa (in black ramekin). The food was all very good and did not disappoint. We were also hungry so I forgot to take pics of our main dishes, but we will be back. We tried the chicharrones which were delicious...they were hit and still crackling when they came out. Our server was pretty busy so didn't pay much attention to our table and almost seemed bothered with us. By the end of our meal another staff grabbed our check because our server was chatting away with some friends in the bar area which is fine, but she kept doing that throughout our meal and didn't check much on us. It was a very classic Mexican version of an NYC red sauce joint. We were out and about and the fiance wanted some chilaquiles and saw the sign and demanded we stop. So we did. The hostess wasn't sure they had chilaquiles, but they did, thank goodness. The chilaquiles were light on sauce and the chips were a little bland. The margarita came out quick and was fine. What could improve? Let's start with everything! The wait person must have had a fight with their partner. They were rude and inattentive and did not check back to see if anything was needed. The food was of poor quality, the lettuce was dried out, the rice was so dry that it made a crunching sound, the fajita steak was tough and full of grizzle, and the pork in the enchiladas was dry as well! Last night we were invited to watch the band outside and have dinner. I hadn't been to this location before, since we usually go to the one in Sparks. I personally believe the best Cadillac Margarita is here!!! My order got mixed up so the waiter was so kind and said how about I get you another Cadillac Margarita and of course I said " YES, Please". I really loved the Reno location and the people were fantastic. The only thing is I asked for separate check's several times, but that was not an option which is too bad since our life's are computer generated and it would have been a nice touch for extra customer service. Ordered to go on a Saturday and was very busy when I went to pick up. It smelled really good so I had high hopes. When I dug into my food, I was SO disappointed. The rice wasn't Spanish rice, it was rice cooked in chicken broth. My taco salad was meat (I got ground beef) lettuce, cheese, guacamole, sour cream and beans. I thought I was gonna get rice in it, but I guess not. This "salad" needs some vegetables, really odd for this to be how they do a taco salad. My partner got the wet burrito with shredded beef and the beef was nicely seasoned, but other than that wasn't great. Lastly and worst of all, the chips tasted burnt. So did my taco shell on my salad. Took me a minute to realize this is due to the restaurant using dirty oil. Yuck. I have no idea why so many people like this place, I am honestly angry at the quality of food that I was given for $35. Never again. read more

I'm 74 yrs old and my wife is ... beautiful. We occasionally come to Reno (it's an hour's drive). I don't like Mexican normally, but this place is special in our hearts. We love Los Compadres! The food is way above average. And the service is unbelievable! And where did you find Marco? He is so UNBELIEVEABLE. He is so attentive and we always ask for his section. I debated a four but decided I was so happy with my meal and service it would be a five. The entire staff was fantastic and moved really fast, but not pushy. I'm a fan of Los compadres! Not only is their food/drink good, their service is great and they are not far from my house! The queso fundido with chorizo is a must. A little bit of it goes a long way and it's packed with flavor. The jalapeños can be pretty spicy but also add so much flavor. I got the street taco trio and did a carne asada, carnitas and al pastor. All of them were really delicious and flavorful. My favorite was probably the Al pastor. I ordered an extra spicy margarita and omg it was SO good! They added a perfect amount of spice in it and didnt shy away with the tequila either. Great margaritas, for three people it was recommended to get a pitcher for $4 more then singles and it was the perfect amount about 1 1/2 each. Lunch specials are during the week only but we ordered off the ala carte menu and were all able to get what we wanted. They included two salsas with the complimentary chips, one a little spicy, they were blended not chunky. I thought a little too salty but with margaritas to wash down that didn't stop me from eating it lol! The Tacos were filling and very good, I didn't miss beans and rice at all.
