Stopped in for a happy hour margarita, the bartender was amazing but for a high end Mexican restaurant serving Jose Cuervo is not the best.... Way over priced. The chips were nice and crunchy but the "Salsa" which was just a red sauce was bland and they both tasted the same. We come to Los Compadres about two or three times a month, usually around 4pm after work with our two kids, and it's always fantastic. We're seated quickly, the food comes out fast, and everything is fresh and delicious. The margaritas are great.. strong enough to feel it but still super tasty. The wait staff is truly what makes this place special. They recognize us every time we come in, say hi even if they aren't our server, and always make us feel welcome. They have never gotten our order wrong and they always bring extra orange slices for our 10 month old, which absolutely makes his day. I was worried when the 4th Street location closed a while ago, but this one has completely won us over. Friendly, fast, and delicious. Can't recommend it enough! read more

We were leaving Grocery Outlet off of Disc Dr a few days ago and I saw the Los Compadres restaurant in the same little mall and got so excited. They had the same logo on their sign used by one of our most favorite Palo Alto Mexican cuisine restaurants from so many years ago, so we had to go in. We ordered a steak fajita platter to share. Sadly, the quality of the food didn't meet our expectations and the margarita I ordered, while full of alcohol, tasted syrupy and not handmade. Our server, Betty, was absolutely wonderful with her smile and attentiveness, hence, the four stars. Afterwards, I checked to see if the original Palo Alto restaurant and this one were related and they were not. Second time to give this restaurant a try. We sat on the bar side during a Sunday afternoon. We were seated immediately and the staff were very attentive. They have two tvs in the bar area which aired a couple NFL games. We ordered a house margarita which was prepared and delivered quickly. Quite tasty with no complaints. We really enjoyed the chips and salsa. Both the normal and hot were rather good. I orders the fajita chicken burrito with rice and beans. To be fair, I'd give the burrito a 3 out of 5. Presentation was great, but it did lack flavor. Overall good experience and again a shout out to the staff for being so friendly. That alone will bring us back. My husband loved his 2 enchilada combo-said sauce was great and chicken very tender. I really enjoyed the chili Colorado-tender beef in a flavorful red sauce. Came here with a family member to celebrate their birthday during the work week. We were greeted and seated right away. We ordered the Arroz con camarones, it was wonderful, it came out piping hot and a large amount of food. I ordered an horchata which wasn't too bad either, I want to say it was right in the middle of the range between not good and amazing. What I really liked was that when asked about any birthday specials our sweet waiter came with Deep Fried Ice Cream and when the waitress sang happy birthday, it was to "panchita." This Los Compadres has consistently been an amazing place to eat and celebrate! We have been here many times but tonight we were here to celebrate a birthday! First off, the food is consistently amazing! They have changed their menu a little since we were last here, but all the favorites are still there. Tonight, we had, collectively, the carne asada quesadilla, the grilled fish tacos, taco salad, chicken fajitas, enchiladas, tamale and for the kids, cheeseburger with fries and a grilled cheese sandwich. I wish I had taken pictures of the food, but the service was so quick and so excited to eat that we forgot! We had some allergies to contend with. And some, we forgot to mention to our server, but it was taken care of so quickly even though one of them was mine.I still had food before everyone was done eating. That is no small feat! I usually get the carnitas, which are incredible. But because of health restrictions right now, I went with the grilled fish tacos. They normally come with a chili paste, but I couldn't have the chili paste and forgot to ask. They remedied that quickly and even without the paste, it was still incredibly flavorful. There was no food left over to take home because the kids happily helped us clean a few plates as well as my mother, who has stage six dementia. In my opinion, they have the best refried beans in all of Northern Nevada. If you just want a quick, healthy snack. Stop in and grab a little bowl of their beans. Their salsa is incredible and always has been. Each meal starts with ample chips and salsa to keep you snacking, in the few minutes that have to wait for your food. We had three bowls for the table and we were still fighting over salsa and chips. Finally, the atmosphere of the restaurant itself is really incredible. It seems to be a common theme for everyone to be remodeling with bright modern colors as of late. But this building has the same rich, warm atmosphere. It's always had that I really enjoy dining in. They also have a beautiful patio and seating area, which unfortunately was full when we arrived, but the wood interior and inviting atmosphere.It's worth not sitting outside if you can't. Now, for the birthday aspect of it, if you're going to surprise someone for their birthday, this is a great place to do it. You get deep fried ice cream, which is incredible. However, you are allergic to tree nuts be aware that it is an allergen and it is premade, so prepare accordingly. I have many photos of family members and friends wearing the same sombrero, and it never gets old! This review is long overdue and I'm glad that I finally made it. Tried Los compadres for the first time and it was very okay. They have a combo plate of two enchiladas, rice and beans listed as 14.50 under combinations, and then right underneath that, there is an "enchilada" menu. Two enchiladas with beans and rice under that part are $17 which made absolutely no sense to me. Not sure if the size is different? I did end up ordering the enchiladas under the combo portion of the menu "the el jefe". With chicken and green sauce. They were okay, but the chicken seemed dry and bland. My husband ordered "Mexican street tacos" which should be two open face corn tortillas, but they came looking like just regular tacos. He ordered one chicken, and two Al pastor. Again both the chicken and Al pastor were dry with not very much flavor. Food overall would probably be two stars. The best parts of our visit were our service and dessert. Despite being busy, we were quickly greeted by the host and didn't wait long for a table. Our server was Maria C. She was great! Attentive and friendly. Vegan: Hard to speculate as to how vegan things are. If you are concerned I would advice asking about what's in the rice and beans. I ordered the veggie fajitas. At $20 it felt a little steep for a veggie based meal. It's always a but disappointing when the meat and veggie options are equally priced. Of my meal I especially enjoyed the grilled veggies, the rice, and the side of grilled jalapeños I added. In the future I think I will order a couple sides instead of the meal. The flavors were flawless. Ambiance: Great atmosphere inside and outside the restaurant. We sat outside. It was a mild summer afternoon with a gentle breeze. We have been there 4 times and it seems like each time the food OK. I had the shrimp tacos yesterday and they were in tiny corn tortillas. The shrimp was very chewy and I had to double check to see if I was really eating shrimp as it was tasteless and rubbery. The thing that has concerned me during my past two visits were the complimentary basket of tortilla chips and salsa that contained a lot of broken tortilla chips including small pieces. The same thing happened during our last visit when we ordered nachos. It may be petty, and I'm not accusing the restaurant of re-using tortilla chips, but this has never happened at other Mexican restaurants where I've eaten. read more

Vanilla ice cream rolled in corn flakes is NOT fried ice cream! Yuck! Nearly $10 for this. I thought it was a joke. I hate that this one of the few restaurants in my area. To go orders also do not contain enough salsa. They are so cheap with their salsa. It's ridiculous. The food needs it because it's not that great. Love the carnitas here. Good margaritas, ok chips, so so salsa rounds out the basics. The main room can be noisy but there is a quieter alcove in the back.
