I used to come here pretty regularly for some decent tacos. The ladies behind the counter are always so kind to me and my broken Spanish. I got a handful of entrees for the kids and me. La Michoacana could be the place to be for your late night Mexican food. The food here is decently priced. This time, I ordered tacos with buche, cabeza, and lengua. The buche was hands down my favorite--perfectly tender and flavorful. I also had the menudo, which was loaded with tripe and seasoned just right. I sent it back to get reheated because I prefer my menudo piping hot, and the staff had no problem accommodating my request. The horchata I ordered was creamy and refreshing, the perfect balance to the savory dishes. The service was excellent. The lady who took our order was incredibly kind and likable--she really made us feel taken care of, which is always a big plus. I loved this place back when I used to live in the apartments behind it. It was very basic back then. It used to be open 24/7 and I'd come here late at night for a good taco. They have really fixed the place up but the food is just as good! The staff are always friendly even though they can tell I'm just another white girl. So I was headed to Olive Garden ... but I think it was really wanting something else and earlier that day hey buddy, I find asked if I've ever tried La Michoacana. I said no, but let him know that and I have been hearing about this mysterious place for years and I never knew where it was - when he said Olive Garden parking lot in down south Virginia I decided to go and get that and you know certainly I come into the parking lot for a different entrance and there it is so I put Olive Garden to the side and gave this place a chance. I looked on yelp and Google and looked at the reviews and saw the menu which I don't know why but Google had like 10 different pictures of the hour sign and they're all different confused on if it was even gonna be open, but it was I went in and it smelled delicious fresh spicy jalapeño aroma that make your nostrils open up and say hello I just got three Carne Asada tacos to go based on one very simple online recommendation. The cost is way less than Olive Garden and and the time to get my food was faster too. let's not you know pretend that there aren't 100 other types of restaurants like this around the Reno Sparks area. Stopped in and got some asada tacos to go. The place is plain. Just some tables and chairs to sit in. Just the basics. There was no one in line so I was waited on almost immediately. I got some red and green salsa for my tacos as I waited. My taco order was ready in just minutes. Brought the food home. The tacos were individually wrapped in wax paper. The tacos tasted good. The red hot sauce had a very good taste to it. You can chipotle peppers mixed in there. It wasn't too spicy. It had actually the perfect spiciness to it and good flavors. The tacos are small. WoW. We're so disappointed today. Everything has changed. They no longer have Flan. I wouldn't reduce the stars for that. But the Huevos Rancheros are totally different. They are NOT served with ANY sauce at all. Just dry chopped peppers. And I ordered the eggs cooked as LITTLE as possible. And they came with broken yolks cooked totally hard with browned crispy egg whites. I also asked for sauce on everything including the beans. The beans were dry and not seasoned. Just nothing like it used to be. I think we may have a language barrier. She obviously heard me. I repeated it twice. She even went to the cook to explain the cooking. Visiting Reno and just walking through the plaza when this restaurant caught our attention Food/Taste/Flavor: 5/5 - these are the items we ordered: 2 taco buche (intestines), 2 taco cabeza (head), taco asada, and burrito pastor (based on recommendation). It's not as common to see buche and cabeza so we were super excited! The buche was cooked well without being queasy or chewy with a really earthy taste. The cabeza was a bit oily compared to the asada which was expected but still so delicious. The pastor was marinated well with so much flavor that no sauce really was needed on it. There is a salsa bar but no onion, cilantro, or the avocado sauce. Ambience: 5/5 - clean and spacious with social distancing in mind. Discovered birria and now if I see it on the menu, I try to make it out there. So here I am. This soup is orangy looking and lightly salted. Added the cilantro and finely chopped onions that gave it the extra flavor boost. So new to this soup, I was a little dismayed to see a lot of bones and connective tissue in the many chunks of meat that were in it. Kind of like an osso bucco where you pick out the meaty parts. The taste is there and the bones contained a lot of marrow if you like to suck those things out. Different cut of meat than what I was expecting. My dad would enjoy this style of meat. On to the burrito supreme. About $13 for half an arm's length of burrito. Definitely shareable. Not much spice heat. Choice of green and/or red sauce. So this is a stand in line, order and either take-out or dine in this widely spaced seating area. A place to eat and drink a variety of Mexican drinks, beer and sodas. Brewed iced tea, too. Updating my review since it's been a few years! I have a sweet spot for this place because it was my go-to place for after a night of drinking in college. I'm glad to see that this place is still open after so many years (can't believe it's been more than a decade!) They've really cleaned the place up post corona. Less tables, no more racks to put your dirty dishes, and lcd screen menus! Same great service with bilingual staff to take your order. The pastor is a lot better than I remember!! Got the pork tamale and it was SPICY!!! WOW. I couldn't handle the heat. Sadly, it is no longer 24 hours, but still a solid cheap taco establishment!! For a quick spot for Mexican food this is a good place to go! I loved the nachos topped with tomatoes, beans, guacamole, and sour cream the ratio of chips to toppings were perfect. Not to mention the portion size of nachos were HUGE. You also get to choose what meat you want on top, I got the carnitas and they were fire, but I did wish I tried the carne asada. The meat in the taco was nothing but disgusting pieces of weird fat and like 2 stringy chunks of it. It was so gross I would even feed it to my dog. Glad it's cheap because I couldn't even eat it. Great Mexican food. I finally found a place in Reno, NV that has Mexican food that is comparable to the Mexican food in L.A. I had the Bistec combination plate with a breakfast burrito via the eggs over easy... instead of the standard go-to scrambled eggs. The green & red salsa was good along with the pickled jalapeño, onion, & carrot medley! I thanked the Mexican lady cooking in the back and said the food was very good! Here's a funny story. From 2009 to 2014, I came up to Reno to work quite often. When I did I stayed nearby at the Marriot. I also was a regular here. So in 2014 I moved here and have not eaten here until last week. Why? I have no idea. Strange. Now I work nearby. So last week I go in and get some tacos. Carnitas--wow Al Pastor--wow Shredded chicken---good Grilled---good What elevates them is the super fresh corn tortillas I suspect they make. These are great street tacos. Traditional. I'm from Cali and so far this is one of the best spots for Mexican food. Reasonably priced and pretty authentic for RENO. They have plenty of dining space and a small arcade with some old school games I haven't seen in years! I've tried two different dishes so far. The chicken enchiladas, and the combo plate with your choice of meat, rice and beans. The red enchilada sauce could be spicier. Like I said Reno be lacking on good food but this place is is close to authentic. The rice could be better. But for the prices I'd come back. I'm a night owl so I'm glad it's open pretty late. I was actually recommended here by two co-workers for their tacos. So glad that they mentioned it - I now come here when I get a craving for tacos! I love how they're open 24 hrs. When I get off work, I'm able to stop by and get some tacos to take home. My boyfriend has tried all the different meats and prefers the Carnitas. I, myself, tend to stick with the Al Pastor. I've only been here for the tacos, so my review is only for that. They're decent tacos at $1.25 each~ The place isn't that fancy, but there's plenty of seating and some arcade games to play. On display are some of their fruits and desserts near the order area that you can take a look at. The ladies taking our order were also sweet. After receiving your order, there's a bar area where you can take some lime, pickled veggies, or salsa to go. Full disclosure this review is based strictly on a takeout order at night! Overview I'd say small to average sized portions. Affordable prices. Basic flavoring and ingredients. More specifically chips and salsa; chips were nothing special, obviously. I feel like I've bought the exact same chips at Costco. And the salsa- though it did have a nice subtle heat to it, was still lacking flavor. The nachos; really light and fresh-ish tasting thanks to the mix of guacamole and sour cream dressing they put on top, some beef and beans gave it a twist but they left out the CHEESE! No nachos are complete without cheese. And the flautas were soggy, bland, and weren't filled up as much as would've been desired!
