We were very excited to stumble upon this hidden gem for a late dinner the other night. The tequila collection is amazing, with over 600 tequilas and mezcals to choose from. Our server (possibly the manager?) was super knowledgeable about the various tequilas. The food (shrimp, asada taco, beef quesadilla) hit the spot. The Baja shrimp in chorizo butter is a standout dish!!! I'm not a big shrimp fan these days, but they nailed it on this one. Happy to know about this spot and bring more business here. read more

Why have so many tequila options of your bartender doesn't even know which one you chose and picks a completely different one?? Wow, the service at Tequila Catador has really declined in the past year. We came down for trivia night, and despite the place being packed, there was only one bartender who was also the only waiter. We waited approximately 20 minutes just to get some water. When we asked if we could order, he told us to wait. It took another 10 minutes to get menus, even though we already knew what we wanted. We ordered chips and guacamole but only got chips and salsa, the guacamole never arrived. We ordered three drinks but only received two. After an hour and 20 minutes, still extra hungry, we decided to go around the corner to the pizza place, which was also packed but we were promptly greeted and served. We ordered appetizers ceviche and calamari the ceviche was fresh and flavorful with the portion size more than enough for 4 people to share our second appetizer was the calamari was crispy not over cooked and the dipping sauce delicious. Then for our mains we got tacos and the molcajetes all of it was delicious but to top it off they brought out the churros and ice cream. My first visit to this outstanding tequila bar in Midtown. Of course they serve other libations. There is a full selection of delicious sounding food options. We tried the chicken enchiladas which were served with rice and beans, sour cream and guacamole. We also ordered the guacamole and chips. The guacamole was delicious, a bit spicy and served with lots of chips. If you're looking for large portions and cold drinks, this is a place to check out. All the Mexican favorites were available for purchase and any kind of tequila you could ask for and some you've never heard of. A time to be had! I ended up staying in town for my bday and wanted to find a fun spot to bring together a group of friends to celebrate with good food and good drinks and [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tequila Catador was one place that popped in mind due to its fun atmosphere and being in the middle of everything![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I went online and made a large group reservations. I called the morning of the event to confirm and was told it was good to go. Upon arriving we were in the back for the larger group events. Our waiter was the absolute best and it looked like he was manning our large group plus the rest of the restaurant. We were able to try some tequilas and got a lesson on the different types- Anejo, viejo for example. The bottles were left for us to sample and taste. I was able to try a shot of the hibiscus which was floral and tasted great, another friend ordered the coconut flavored tequila which was so yummy. I ordered a Watermelon margarita and it was served in a cool skull! I was excited to drink out of the skull and the drink was amazing. Our party did orders of chips and salsa and chips and guacamole. The chips were pink! Everything was great. We took our time and our waiter was wonderful. I ordered one taco al pastor and one chicken asada. Boy the al pastor with pineapple and charred onion I am still thinking about to this day. My friend and I split the street corn and that was so tasty, with herb mayo and lime and cotija. I remember a birthday song coming on and the waiter doing a dance around the group along with a scoop of ice cream and two churros. Yum!! I thought it was a fun touch to have the bottle of the Clase Azul Reposado Tequila and use the lid as a bell. We were there for at least two hours and were so well taken care of. I don't even know where to start. Tequila Catador has been one of the best bars/restaurants I have been to in a very long time for so many reasons. To start of the place itself is very nice and decorated with Mexican decorations and murals that are very cool. The staff was very attentive as soon as we walked in with Maribel kindly greeting us and sitting us at the bar. Here is where things got real interesting after meeting the bartender and bar manager Ivan. This man is a true mixologist and made some great mezcal cocktails and turned us on to some very delicious tequilas. My wife and I tried a bunch of the cocktails but I will say my favorite was the Jalapeño Passion Fruit Margarita with the Al Pastor Margarita being a close second. Then came the delicious food. We started of with Chips, Salsa, and Guac. The Guac was very tasty and creamy and the chips were good quality for dipping. The salsa did leave something to be desired as it wasn't very spicy. We also ordered the Queso Fundido which was one best I have had because it was not just a greasy pan with some minced chorizo, it was a full pan with chunky chorizo and plenty of peppers and onions, topped with a generous amount of cheese that was so good made into tacos with the flour tortillas. We also ordered the Blackened Ahi Tuna Tostada which had a yummy Habanero Mayo and a delicious Mango Habanero habanero on the side. I think I have definitely found my go to place when we are craving so great mezcal cocktails and masterfully made mexican inspired dishes. read more

A beautiful relaxing night hanging with my boys. Was able to get seated right away for a table for 4 originally and we added another seat for a last-minute guest in our group and was able to be accommodated right away. There seemed to only be maybe 3 folks working on a Saturday night so our group tried to be as helpful giving our order right away. The menu offered a good amount of delicious Hispanic food from chips and salsa to molcajete to tacos and burritos. I ordered the fried calamari that were so deliciously made each piece melted in your mouth. It was not fishy at all neither overly breaded, just the perfect amount. My main course was the tacos trio from the sea with refried beans topped with cotija cheese. I got one of each of mahi mahi, tuna and salmon. Each delivering its own flavor profile and was generously filled in each tortilla. The decor inside seemed like a piece of Mexico was placed in the middle of Reno and a lively vibe. What a fun place! The ambience is perfect for a romantic night out or a night out with friends. The service was decent. Although they weren't very busy, it took them a while to come check in on us. They also charged us full price for all of our margaritas, even though they were on happy hour. The gentleman fixed the issue with the bill, but it was a bummer the bill was incorrect when we received it. The margaritas and food were amazing! We took advantage of the happy hour and tried a few different margaritas. The apple and tamarindo margarita was so good. It was a nice, sweet margarita. For Taco Tuesday - The taco options were small but mighty: chicken, beef, or pork. They're buy 1, get 1! I really loved the carne asada, the meat was so flavorful and hit the spot! Pretty good portions too! For Happy Hour (3pm-6pm) - margaritas are buy 1, get 1 and they are so delicious!! I highly suggest a spicy Margarita or a watermelon Margarita, sooo good!! They also have Modelo or Corona (Bottles ONLY), Tequila Shot, Chips & Salsa for $10 during happy hour. Always take a tequila shot with an orange slice and cinnamon, it's way better than salt & lime. Their chips and salsa are bomb, the salsa wasn't too spicy and chips were perfectly crunchy and salty. The ambiance is on-point! Very inviting! I love how they decorated, it feels like you're on vacation. They have Tequila everywhere! So many options, the selection of Tequila & Mezcal is quite overwhelming! They only have street parking. Customer service was excellent! The bartenders were very friendly and welcoming! I would recommend this spot for delicious margaritas and tacos. Tequila has amazing ambiance, however the experience we had was just so-so. My family stopped in for a round of margaritas. I ordered the coconut marg and was very satisfied, it was delicious! I'm a sucker for coconut. The rest of my family ordered Cadillac margaritas and were very disappointed. The Cadillacs tasted like watered down tequila. There was no lime or agave flavor. We informed the waitress of this and she just told us that this was strange. I am hoping that they were just having an off night, or we're trying out a new bartender, Because this is a cool spot and has a very cool vibe, but I am not sure if we will be back, after our very mixed experience. Came in with the hubby on a date to check out the new tequila bar in midtown! Super cute spot with a cool, laid back vibe. They have tons and tons and awesome tequilas and a full menu of food to choose from. I can see that this will be a fun spot and great addition to midtown. Why only 3 stars? They have some new restaurant kinks to work out still. Sadly, the bar tenders are undertrained meaning they have no education about the tequilas they are serving and the menu provides no guidance either, making it tough to choose from the vast selection. We ordered one tequila and one mezcal randomly - 2 we hadn't tried before - and they were both good. High prices for the value, however. We looked up the tequila online and it was a $48 bottle and $24 for one shot - felt a little steep. We also ordered the chips and salsa and sadly they were kind of stale (like they had been sitting around a while) and lacked salt and the salsa was also very bland. And the server handed us the salsa with his finger tip pressed inside the bowl Anyway, like I said, some new business kinks need to be worked out but in time I have faith that this will be a fun spot to hang at. Stopped in on a Sunday night and enjoyed a low-key vibe. Loved the colorful, on-theme decor. We sat at the bar but they also have table seating. My husband started by trying a mezcal off their extensive tequila and mezcal list. I got a Margarita--and it was excellent. With their selection of mezcal's and tequilas, I hope they will add flights to their menu so I can come in and taste a few. We also ordered dinner-- tacos and calamari. The calamari was my favorite dish. So crispy and tasty and great dipping sauce. The tacos are we're good. There are some better taco spots in town but these certainly didn't disappoint! This is your place if you're a connoisseur of tequila. Hundreds, if not thousands of options. The venue is fairly small, but typical of the establishments in Mid-Town Reno. We would definitely go back for drinks sometime, but probably.eat elsewhere first. The food was fine, but not nearly as interesting as the drink menu and overall environment. We split the Queso Fundido and a Chicken Burrito. The Fundido was rich, but a bit thick and pasty. The cheese melted on top hardened like a shell that didn't eat well. The burrito was your standard creation, lacking much flavor or anything particularly interesting about it. The service, however, was very good. The staff were friendly, quick to get us rated, take out order, and the food was out surprisingly quick as well. Overall, the venue is worth your time if you're interested in a bright, energetic spot to sample a ton of unique tequilas and margaritas. But the food menu can't keep up with everything else going on in this fun little spot. read more

Bombtastic I'm a non-drinker, my lady grows tequila. So this is her spot. Friendly staff, very knowledgeable about the different styles and blends. A good menu, and just an overall fun place to spend an afternoon watching your date imbibe a few choice beverages. If your curious about tequila but don't want to spend thousands of dollars of a few choice bottles, then I highly recommend coming in here and going bananas. Our wonderful hostess was named Susie (hope I spelled it properly) and she gave us a remarkable tour of the libations available. Unfortunately there were some flavors she was dying to show us but had already run out but promised they would be back in supply soon. We hope to come back and try all her recommendations as we know she knows what she is talking about. They have flights which are very affordable and let you try lots of tequilas without going broke. If you aren't able to hold your tequila like a champ, assume for your own safety that this place is dangerous. If you have strong pride in Mexico's top selling export and want to howl at the moon at the top of your lungs while your blood swells with brown pride, I most highly suggest coming in. Stopped by on a whim while wandering midtown and was excited to try something new! The space itself is beautiful. Vibrant with colors and plants while the bar makes a statement by putting on many (many) bottles of tequila on display. We were instantly greeted, sat, and had a chance to take it all in. Exploring the menu there seems to be an option for every taste and I know I will be back to try the food, however, this evening in particular, we decided on drinks only. I ordered the jalapeño passion fruit margarita and while I was impressed by the display, the flavor and amount was lacking for the price. My party had a similar experience. I visited this spot for a friend's birthday party this weekend, and it was pretty good! The restaurant itself is small, but the decor is so fun and "very LA" my friends all pointed out. We had a table for about 15 and the staff was super accomodating and sweet to us, we never felt ignored. We were placed right next to the kitchen so we heard the kitchen bell dinging quite a bit, but that's expected. The tequila menu is HUGE, about 3x the size of the food menu. I'm not a big drinker, but it was impressive! They had a few unique margarita combos like a raspberry hibiscus one my boyfriend liked, and a jalapeno passionfruit several of my friends got and enjoyed. The menu itself is just the right size in my opinion, just enough options without being overwhelming. I prdered the land trio of tacos - steak, chicken, and pulled pork, served with a side of beans and chips and salsa. I didn't get any salsa served with mine, but my boyfriend did. We both had about 5 full chips on our plate, which was really disappointing since none were served as a starter. Either don't include chips at all, or put enough, you know? They tasted a bit stale, not sure if it's because they were thick or what. The tacos themselves were really yummy! My favorite was the steak, it had an excellent flavor. The chicken was so flavorful and was great with the tangy tomatillo salsa. The pulled pork was really good too, but surprisingly had a bit of a kick! The tacos themselves were quite full of meat, pickled onions, and spring mix, but a little on the small side overall. For the 2 taco trios and one small margarita, we paid about $60 including the large party gratuity. The service was great, the tacos were tasty, but I can't say I'd return. read more

I went back to ask the service whether she knew we were seated, and she rudely told me that I should "wait my turn". After a while, she came by the table, not saying a single word. Or with it. The burritos are so dry and flavorless. The two missing ingredients may have helped. When we mention this to the waiter his reply was he could bring some to us and that they are short staffed and sorry. And took our half eaten plate rudely. By that time the food was half eaten and it was a little. He took one $18 burrito off the bill. The right thing would have been to take both wrong orders off the bill. As a person who also works in the service industry, this is pretty standard protocol. Especially if you want a customer to come back. DEFINITELY do not recommend. Plenty of other places in Reno. The inside of this restaurant has such a cute vibe and we just so happened to visit on the night of their one year anniversary party so they had a view extra decorations up and we're running a few drink specials. The drinks themselves were very good, made from super fresh ingredients and presented nicely. But for $16/margarita I would expect to be in a different city or be recurving a much larger drink. The food portions on the other hand were decent sized and priced accordingly to other comparable restaurants in town. But everything was just a little bit bland. I think a little adjustment on some flavors and the food could bring really excellent. The service was great though and the wait staff checked on us consistently and were very friendly throughout our meal. Truly absolutely amazing!!! I'm pretty picky about my Mexican food, and this is one of the few Mexican places in town that I genuinely enjoy and keep coming back to. The decor is super cute and they have a massive tequila and mezcal selection. I specifically love their chicken burrito and coconut and lime margarita. The flan is also good for dessert.
