On this visit my best friend ordered the nachos which come with avocado and she wondered if you can have guacamole instead which they wouldn't sub out... so that's kind of disappointing. I was very disappointed with the Carne Asada Tacos that I ordered for takeout. The meat was obviously a low-grade beef cut because it was loaded with meat tenderizer, a lot of black pepper and spices and it was chopped up into small pieces. The cilantro was not fresh and the small piece of lime was yellowish instead of green. I did call several times to inform the manager that I was not able to eat their tacos and I finally was able to speak with someone who was nice and offered to refund me for the $8.60 purchase. This was my experience and I felt that I should share it with other Yelpers. I hope that they improve their taste quality and wish them well. read more

The veggie tacos are cauliflower and pickled onion. Good flavor but I do advise that you get a side of avocado and grilled peppers to enhance the flavor. Note the grilled peppers are grilled whole jalapeños. I had a bite of jalapeño and a bite of taco back and forth and loved it. Al Pastor Tacos: The Al pastor tacos have enough spice to make your mouth sing with sensation, but not so much spice that you want to drown it out with slices of bread. The pieces of pineapple inside were a welcome flavor balance and appropriately portioned. Still I wanted more pineapple. Taco quality: Tacos were very full but not completely overflowing. I will say that these tacos aren't the best I've ever had but they are absolutely the best for the price point. Tacos better than this are double the price and in a swanky place. Don't skip this place! You will love your meal. Service: Order at a counter and they will bring your food out to you. I stopped by the Taco Shop around 5:30 PM on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised by the short wait. Our food was ready within 10 minutes of ordering. I went with the veggie tacos, which are made with a unique cauliflower and green apple combo. I really enjoyed the flavor. The green salsa on the side was a nice touch: medium spicy and tangy, probably thanks to the tomatillos. Each taco came on a single tortilla, which held up well but didn't quite fill me up the way three double-tortilla tacos usually do. Still, the quality and creativity of the filling made up for it. I used to enjoy this place but the only thing they have done lately is raise the prices and lower their service and standards. It is remarkable that a local small business would let their employee treat customers so poorly. I ordered and paid for my food and left a tip in the bowl. This is where anything resembling "service" ended. The cashier rudely asked me not to wait near the fenced off area between the bar in front of them and their patio. It was before 2 pm and the Curse of Cane not only had NO customers, but NO employees were there since the bar doesn't open until 5 pm. I later went to the front and looked in all of the windows just to ensure the building was empty. What does appear to block the pathway between the businesses? Well, the Taco Shop's lights and door that blocked about half of the walkway. 9see pictures) The two sets of customers that stood there reading the menu until it was their turn to order and a couple that sat on the retaining wall waiting for their food to come out. (see photos) It was just me that had the potential to block the make-believe staff of Curse of Cane. Of interest, I am familiar with the staff of Curse and when I went in the same night, they told me they did not come to work until after 4:30 that day and used the front door to enter the bar. After such an abrasive interaction with the cashier I no longer want anything to do with this place. I am not sure if the food was good or not because I threw it away without eating a single bite. I did notice that they served an order of fish tacos without any lime or lemon so I wouldn't have enjoyed them anyways. read more

I finally found this little hole in the wall taco shop that my brother told me about. It's tucked down an alley and not directly on Wells as the address indicates. I had the cheeseburger tacos since it was a unique concept and they were excellent. My only issue is, I wanted 2 tacos of different varieties and that's not allowed. You can only order 2-3 of the same taco. I can only eat two and wanted to try 2 varieties and they would not allow that. Overall, it was a good experience. I work 3 minutes from the Taco Shop and it did not disappoint. It's located in the alley next to Death & Taxes. Outside seating only. Adorable set up in a white building with pink French doors. I ordered 3 carne asada tacos with both the red and green salas and a tamarind Jarritos to go. The tacos were super flavorful, with a ton of meat topped with white onion, cilantro and accompanied by a lime. Both the salsas were tasty and had a nice kick. I find the food here, fresh, tasty, and have you coming back for more. I ordered the chicken burrito, a chicken, quesadilla, and the three Asada tacos. A note of caution on their green or red sauce they tend to have a bit of a kick, but they're great! This place is on my regular spots to stop each time after I get a pedicure up the street. You order at the counter and can either get it to-go or sit in their patio area on a sunny day. The service is always stellar. The only issue might be parking. It's Midtown, so street parking is limited to mostly nonexistent anytime of the day. Signage tells you that you're not supposed to park in the alley, but I do anyway for the 10 minutes it takes for me to get my to-go order. Honestly speaking though, I have parked in the alley when eating there with friends, because it seems everybody else does it and I've never had any issues with anyone challenging my parking in the alley. You order at the counter and it was overall very quick with just a few people ahead of us. The food came out in about 15 minutes and was very fresh and delicious.
