I've only been to Macho T's once, but since the basics were done so well I'm confident dropping a 5 star. Even their table salsa and chips were excellent, which is always a great sign. The green salsa is particularly not to be missed. My fish tacos were fresh tasting. Jenny P order a chile rilleno which was also excellent. Plenty of cheese packed in a flavorful chili pepper. This place is a hidden gem. I can't believe it took me this long to find them and they're so close by! So far we've had the tacos, burritos, taco salad, quesadilla, Chili relleno and enchiladas. We've come here a lot since we found them. If I had to pick ONE favorite item, it'd have to be the carnitas crispy tacos. So dang good. The meat is crispy and all of the ingredients are fresh and delicious. Crisp lettuce, ripe red tomatoes, freshly grated cheese. It's evident a lot of love goes into their dishes. I was very disappointed with the quality of this restaurant. The reviews and pictures did not match the food we received. I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that served white rice? The ambiance/restaurant needs updating and a good cleaning as well. The stuffed bird at the bar was ridiculous for a restaurant. Windows and coverings were filthy. To get your food takes forever. We waited 25 mins from ordering to getting food on our table and there were 2 patrons in the restaurant in addition to my party of 2. Not sure what took so long. Food was good! But I didn't like the sautéed onions on the tacos. And too much sauce on the flautas made it a lil soggy in the middle. Service was ok. Not a wow. Taco Tuesday Lunch! After a couple of my foodie friends posted great things about Macho Tequila's... a friend and I decided to try it for the first time. And it was fantastic! We had tacos... it is Taco Tuesday after all :-)!! I had a delicious soft shrimp taco and a crispy chicken taco and refried beans. My friend had asada crispy tacos, rice and beans. We were not disappointed at all! We had a nice chat with owner, Danny. Great fella! Thought it's a bit away from South Reno, but we will definitely be back... I want to try the Diablo Burrito next! Spicy! I'm not sure what each item cost, as we had 1 bill and we split down the middle ($14 and some change each), but it was well worth it! If you haven't tried it yet, go! I've seen a few of you post about Macho Tequila's which inspired me to try their food over the weekend. I was surprised to see the room as vacant as it was on a Saturday night. After talking with the owner, Danny, he said that he's never 'packed' but he is always steady. Looking at their menu, it reminded me of a number of #delicious Mexican restaurants I've dined at in the past. The tri-fold menu offered everything from breakfast to dinner entrées and so much more. I wasn't sure how hungry I was not to mention I didn't want to buy more food than I was prepared in case I didn't enjoy everything and there was the potential for leftovers. The last thing, or things, I'd want a restaurant owner to see is food that wasn't completed and/or going to waste. The salsa (both red and green) that came with the chips was out of sight! The chips were hot and fresh, which is always a good sign. After perusing the choices, I ordered two shrimp tacos, a la carte. When my food arrived, I couldn't wait to squeeze fresh lime over the tacos and dive in. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, The fresh ingredients that accompanied the meat inside of the corn tortillas were equally pleasing. I told the owner when he came by to check on how things were, "excuse my mouth (thankfully no one was in the room) but this food is f_cking FANTASTIC." He smiled big and thanked me. After chatting with him for about 20 minutes, he said that he almost gave up on everything after 4-6 months. Something finally clicked and now he's owned the restaurant for 8 years. I don't mean to ramble about everything but I will strongly advise you to stop in and eat their food. Danny said the Burning Man crowd always dines with him every year, which says something seeing his restaurant is (kind of) off the beaten path. Thanks for taking a moment to indulge me. This is the BEST Mexican food I've ever had! The ingredients are fresh, and they make a great Margherita . The guacamole was delicious, as was the salsa. The standout for me was the shrimp in a mango sauce...pure perfection! It was so good that I asked if they sold the sauce, which they did not, but the owner was kind enough to sell me some. I came here for lunch with a friend. I'm glad that I was able to try it. On multiple occasions I have driven pass this place and never stepped inside. The food was delicious the server spoke both English and Spanish. There were a lot of cocktails to choose from. I chose a non alcoholic piña colada. For the amount of food they give you, the price was reasonable. I'm sure the night scene here is much different because they do have a bar. Doesn't look like much when you drive into the plaza. Our coworker and the drummer of Anima Stereo invited us to their show on location! Check the Macho T's Facebook for future shows and updates!! Service was nice at 8:30 pm. The waitress was apologetic when plates were running slow or when we had to make last kitchen requests for the chef. The tables are a bit close, but I love how big they are. Also like the western feel to the place. We started with chips and a Grande margarita. This Cadillac was refreshingly strong! We ended up ordering another two later. We ordered three plates, and were upcharged for any meat change requests. Plates were tasty, and our party of three made it more than halfway through our plates until we hit a wall..slowed down to finish the rest. For dessert we were determined to share one fried ice cream, but decided on two since we were indecisive at the same time. can I say yum and grand with the plating! Cinnamon sugar tortilla bowl with Bailey's like ice cream with chocolate shavings. The only odd thing was the jelly candy toping that got too hard to chew. The waitress was upselling since we already had a hard time finishing our plates!! The music was awesome, acoustic rock songs tonight. It would be better knowing Spanish and moreso if you are familiar with dancing cumbia variations. Night scenery is great due to the red lighting at the bar. Thank you to Danny Boy for being an amazing host! I'm very and I mean VERY particular with Mexican rice, to the point where I will refuse to go back just based off of that. If I lived here, I'd be a regular for sure! Everything from the salsa to the meats were delicious! My friends ordered a bunch of ala carte items from the Chile Relleno to Taquitos, and my husband and I opted for the Wet Burrito. Can't get enough of this place! My only wish is that I had a bigger stomach so I could finish everything, because I got so full off just the chips and salsa provided. My bad on the terrible photo, because I was so excited to eat that I forgot to take a pic upfront. Pictures don't do it justice anyways. Found this place as we were driving back to California. It was pretty empty as we got in (maybe due to COVID), but it still took a little time to get us seated and served. Service: The server didn't seem very interested in serving us. He was professional nonetheless. Shortly after our order, we were served some yummy chips and salsa! Food: Chips and Salsa - I thought these were the real star of the meal. The had a couple different types of salsa, which I loved both. Can't go wrong with these! Burrito - I thought this was too mushy. The meat and rice and bean ratio was off. I didn't see too much meat and the rice/beans just overpowered everything. Fish tacos - I honestly thought the fish was overcooked as it was a little tough to chew. But the toppings and sauces were pretty good. Overall: I would probably try this place again, but not on the top of my list to come back to anytime soon. read more
