Jalapeños 2 is a local favorite for quick, flavorful Mexican food. It's in a shopping center in Northwest Reno with plenty of parking, which makes it easy to stop by whether you're eating in or picking up to go. The service is always fast and friendly. You order at the counter, and they bring out your food when it's ready. We usually call ahead for takeout, but the small dining area has about a dozen clean, comfortable tables that make it a nice spot to eat there too. Everything on the menu is solid. My usual order is the crispy chicken tacos. They're full of flavor with a perfectly crunchy, warm shell. I am a fan of easy and reliable Mexican food. The dining room here is quiet, clean and there is plenty of seating for any sized party. The decor is appropriate but there is nothing terribly fancy or noteworthy. To-Go orders seem to keep them busy. The food is good 8 out of 10. It is authentic for Reno, meaning that there is more authentic available in Reno, but the food here has not been completely Americanized. This is one of my friend's favorite Mexican places in town. I know, I don't have the heart to tell him, I think it has to do with nostalgia for being one of the first places he ate at in Reno. Not the say the food, service or ambiance is bad, I just find it very average and chain-ey. From the strip mall large windows, basic paint and seating to the mid food. Carne Asada fries are decent but many places do it better, same with most of their menu. A few days ago we decided to try out a little hole in the wall restaurant right off Robb Dr. We had hoped it would be a new little secret find and go to spot for us but, unfortunately, we won't be back. It had too many misses. We ordered a variety of items including a chicken tamale/chicken enchilada combo (rice and beans), and camarones momias (bacon wrapped shrimp) with fries. The fries were luke warm and tasted like fish. We peeked over the order counter and only saw one deep fryer. We figured they fried their fish in the same fryer as the fries. The chicken tamale was just ok with a mild green sauce but the enchilada tasted off. We were told that the bacon wrapped shrimp was grilled but there's no way the bacon could have been so evenly cooked over a grille. The shrimp was dried out and rubbery, not fresh. It took awhile to get the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa tasted and looked watered down. When the food was delivered we were handed one rolled napkin bundle with 2 forks, one knife, and no spoons. When we paid upfront at the counter we were presented with a tip screen. We chose 15% and later learned that the 15% was on top of the tax. In reality, we paid closer to 18%. When we asked for a paper menu we were told to take a picture of the menu screen on the wall. Our server was nice enough she just never came back to check on us at the table. read more

I've lived here In Somerset for four years and never knew this place existed. Finally, I had business in the area and there it was, Jalapeño 2. I placed an order for my partner and I for a carnitas burrito, and a chicken enchiladas with rice and beans. I wasn't really impressed with the final product. The chips tasted like old old, the burrito and park was bland and greasy. I know carnitas by nature is fatty, but this was in tiny pieces. The rice was good. A tiny bit of guacamole which was a bit spicy. All in all it was nothing special. I probably would not come back to eat here. There are better and tastier places around Reno. read more

The service at Jalapeños2 is better than the Sparks location on Los Altos, but glad they have this one in Reno. Their taquitos are my favorite! My little sister got me hooked on these and if she orders them, I will steal one or two. Shhh... We ordered a few things to share for dinner between 4 of us. I was okay with the ceviche tostadas, but I had a bite of everything. What makes everyone else's food tastes better? One ground beef chimichanga combo plate, a carne asada fries, an asada wet burrito with salsa verde, ceviche tostadas and chicken taquitos. The handful of times I've been into this location, the dining room and shopping center have both been very quiet. I see their to-go orders flying out the door though. Never even knew this place was here despite it being about 5 mins from our house! It's tucked away in a place where you don't really drive unless you're specifically looking for a business in this area. We ordered takeout and I came here to pick it up. The inside is small but does have some tables for dining in. It feels like a mix between a hole-in-the-wall taqueria and a small dine-in Mexican restaurant, the best of both worlds! I got the quesabirria taco combo, my husband got a carnitas burrito smothered in green salsa, and we split an order of carne asada fries. We thought everything was really good! Big portion sizes, all the right toppings, flavorful meats, affordable prices. They also have a salsa bar inside where you can pick what salsas you want and how many of each. We asked for a side of chips and I was disappointed to get home and realize they didn't give us any, but luckily we had some chips at home to use with all the salsa. The spiciest salsa was my favorite! My husband really liked their green salsa. This was a solid spot for some takeout and we will plan to come back! read more

My husband and I were in the neighborhood and we ended up here for lunch. No other customers were inside when we walked in, which would normally be concerning, but we arrived on the early side and several other customers came in after we ordered. My husband ordered Huevos Rancheros and I had Shrimp Enchiladas. While placing my order, I asked if their beans were vegetarian or if they offered other types of beans and was told "no" on both. I don't eat lard so it mattered to me. No problem, though, as they doubled the amount of rice for me instead. The place itself is low-key casual with somewhat of a fast-food feel. But the food is not a reflection of the ambience! I tasted my husband's dish and we both agreed that his huevos were better than those served at another place in town where we usually get them. More fresh tasting and much less greasy. As to my shrimp enchiladas, they were pretty tasty and priced fairly for a seafood dish. Overall, between the food and good service we were happy with our experience and plan to come back again some day. read more

We called to place our order and the staff was really nice and the service was quick - our order would be ready in ~15 minutes after placing our order. We picked up our order that came with chips and we selected the verde and red salsas to go with our meal. Our carne asada burritos were good and pretty simple. We didn't love the verde salsa (usually our go-to with Mexican) but the hot red salsa was super good! I'd definitely recommend the red salsa with your meal. Overall, we had a good experience and the food was good but just not our favorite based on other carne asada burritos we have had in the area. I think next time I would try one of their plate meals instead - those look good! read more

So sorry to the employees here. I got here at 9am to order $50 worth of to go breakfast burritos for the boys at the sleep over at my house. I even tipped. But clearly I was bugging them for coming in so early. It was like eye rolls that I came in. They had no hot red salsa made, no fresh chips and tried to pass off stale old chips when I ordered a side of chips, zero apologies or sorry we aren't quite ready this morning. It was actually very rude to me. I guess their 9am opening hours aren't real it will not happen again because I won't be back. And then I got home and realized they made the breakfast burritos with Carnitas instead of Carne Asada like I ordered. So now I have three boys that will not eat their burritos. What a total bummer. And it's not even worth a call to them to tell them my order was wrong because of the experience I already had there. And the machaca is a disgrace. No sauteed onion or green pepper and it's crunchy and hard carnitas. Clearly yesterday's and just dumped in the stovetop with eggs. I have been here around four times within the past five years. Twice this year. Every time has been a call-in carryout order. They always give me a time of 10-15 minutes. When I arrive in 10-15 minutes the food is hot and ready and waiting for me. Past two experiences, the host has been polite and quick, both over the phone and in-person. They gave me napkins and a fork in my to-go bag. They've always asked if I needed salsa. They've always had a smile. It seems like a lot of places have been giving poor customer service around town; Jalapeno's Dos is not one of those places. The food at Jalapeños 2 is legit and well priced. Unfortunately the flavor is mid. Sometimes the taco meat is reheated from the day before. The location is not bad and they seem to keep it clean. Definitely a 4.5! I can't give it 5 stars just because it's not my all time favorite Mexican food place. But... for Reno, it's pretty good. We have gone twice right after school in the middle of the afternoon, and it wasn't busy at all. Service was friendly and efficient, and they made the food fresh. We ordered the three tacos combo plate, fish tacos, and crunchy chicken taco plate. My kids love the Jarritos, of course. The food was fresh, hot, and yummy. We loved that we could serve ourselves chips and salsa while we waited. The salsa is also good drizzled on top of the tacos. So, the fish tacos are not what I'm used to being from So Cal (shredded cabbage, creamy sauce)... but my daughter said she liked them. Overall, it's definitely a nice place to have in our neighborhood, and it's located right past the Burger Me. As far as price is concerned, I think it's very reasonable ($3 for fish tacos, $1.50 for street tacos). Their food really does taste homemade, and I hope they do well! read more
