I enjoy getting poke bowls from Loco Ono. They have a variety of sizes that you can get, and for me the smallest one with one protein works great. I also like that you can get rice and the wonton chips versus picking only one as your base. It is the counter style where you choose different things that you want on your Poke bowl. There are a few ingredients like avocado that has the upcharge, but in general, it has less than other places. I personally like the crab and seaweed salad on mine, which isn't everywhere. Ingredients have tasted fresh the times I have ordered bowls. Staff is helpful at asking specific things you want and circling back if you may have missed one of the categories. I usually take mine to go but there is a fair amount of seating to have the food there. read more

Each bite was crispy, savory and delicious. On this visit there was something off about their dipping sauce they served with the Katsu. It didn't have that usual smooth flavor. It was slightly more acidic. The curry made better for dipping. The service was quick and despite Fritzie W. changing her mind on a few items, they were still patient and courteous. The restaurant is laid back, and a few patrons eating inside appeared content enjoying their meals. I normally visit the Sparks location since it's closer to my home but this time, we wanted to sit outside and the tables aren't set up for the Sparks location yet. So here we are at the Reno Midtown location. The same owner, same supplier for their ingredients, so I'd expect no less a similar experience. And they did not disappoint! Came back to Loco Ono and had to switch it up this time. I usually get their kalbi and garlic chicken with garlic rice (which is and still my favorite), but I decided to try the mochiko fried chicken. It was good, crispy and flavorful, but honestly I still prefer the garlic chicken way more. That one just hits different. Their poke was solid too, and they give a great serving size. Fresh, flavorful, and definitely worth ordering. I also tried the salmon belly taco and that was really good as well, nice balance and didn't feel too heavy. This is secretly (or not so secretly) one of my favorite places to eat in town. I love the big flavors, friendly service and the fresh food they serve here, and it's a big bonus that it's also fast, casual and reasonably priced too. I almost always go for the two item mixed plate. My favorite is the Teri beef, but I've been dialing back beef and also love their Teri chicken, mochiko chicken, and so many of the other options too. You really can't go wrong with anything. One plate is almost enough for two meals in my world also, which makes this a real value. Their poke is also super delicious. Their sauces are excellent, toppings and fish super fresh, and overall, a fantastic poke option. But if you're not feeling a BYO Bowl, they'll also fix up a straight pound of that poke goodness in a few styles too! We usually add one of these to our order every time. The tacos are excellent. Honest take out review: 4/5 amazing flavors! Inconsistency with the oil and no katsu sauce! But that kalbi taco?!? Yes!!! Hear me out... had I gotten the katsu sauce. I think this would have been a 4.5, but the missing sauce allowed for the used oil to come through with the garlic chicken and katsu chicken... I'll drop my thoughts below, give them credit though... they have a "now hiring sign" on the window. Business's without the right support at times struggle with consistency so here's to hoping the notes below come through! Mixed plates: -Grilled teri beef and chicken: 4.5/5 Smokey, and large portions give this meat a strong rating with the dish as it's a delicious combination for the combination of cabbage, rice, and green onion. The sauce however was delicious but missing in the meal... it needed a little more sauce throughout the meal to be able to say that it had that 5/5 we're looking for! Otherwise! Rice cooked deliciously, and a good potato/mac salad! Katsu & garlic chicken: 2.5/5 2.5 is for the flavor as the garlic chicken has so much flavor!! The first bite I took had me wanting to come back for more! Mixed it with the rice and it was absolutely delicious! As I went in for more bites... I noticed that the chicken was over cooked due to the inner chicken being dry and while flavorful. Notes of old oil coming through strongly. For the katsu, we were missing the sauce so we were able to see that the breading was over fried as it was brown and had a strong flavor or burnt oil. Then as we went for more bites of the garlic chicken, the sauce masked a lot of the chicken which was crispy and over cooked. Giving this a 4/5 as the kalbi taco saves the experience! We all did a build-your-own situation and I was only able to eat half of it. I was trying to force myself to eat more but there was so much! My bowl had a base of white rice, topped with spicy tuna, crab salad, seaweed salad, edamame, cucumber, and spicy sauce. The tuna had a great kick to it and I actually liked that it was ground rather than cubed because it helped mix it all in. Spicy sauce had great flavor. The parking lot was full when I drove up but I was fortunate to find a spot near the restaurant. When I walked in the restaurant was packed with diners, there was a huge group enjoying their food seated by the window and individuals at the other tables. A couple was ahead of me in line plus another customer behind me. I ordered a keiki (smallest or kid's) bowl of krab salad atop a bed of salad greens (I'm trying to consume less carbs), with creamy miso dressing and a dollop of unagi sauce, then garnished with yellow and green onions, and topped with the fried garlic & the fried onion shakers. Heard good things about this place and I love Hawaiian food so I took a co worker here for lunch. This shop sits in the Sports West complex by the cigar store. It's a strip mall type setup with the long window, a few tables and one longer table for big groups/ communal service. I got the garlic chicken and my partner got the poke bowl. The service from the lady behind the counter was simply unfriendly. Not sure what her issue was but she seemed to not want to be there. She snatched money out of my hand, was giving eye rolls at simple questions and got mad when she had to repeat herself to my co worker when he didn't hear her. The food itself was fine, chicken was crispy and well cooked, though seated on a pond of soy sauce. 2 scoops of rice were decent but I was disappointed in the Mac salad. I can usually eat 2 or 3 scoops of the Hawaiian version but I could even finish the tiny 3 oz cup of it they gave me. I ordered some lunch for a company meeting. One large pan of chicken Katsu (crispy and juicy fried chicken served with a tangy sauce) and beef teriyaki (tender slices of beef in a soy based sauce). A large pan of Mac Salad and 1/2 pan of rice. The Mac salad was yummy and the rice was freshly cooked and yummy. The food was very tasty! Everyone seemed to like it a lot! I came in for lunch and ordered Chicken Katsu (dry) I Hate macaroni salad - and the rice is just plain white rice. I don't love the sauce it came with and they charged me extra for spicy mayo, which in my opinion was the star of the show. Loco Ono is our go-to place for a great Hawaiian BBQ. They have multiple locations in the Reno-Sparks area. Our go-to location, the midtown location, is in a shopping center with plenty of parking. The restaurant is clean, and there's plenty of seating. The service is excellent. Every time we go, the staff is very attentive and friendly. Once you place your order at the counter, the food quickly arrives. Our food, my favorite being the Garlic Shrimp and Mochiko Chicken, always hits the spot. They are nice, flavorful, and crispy. I stopped at the FedEx office nearby, and when I saw this place on the other side of the parking lot, I decided to stop for dinner. When I first walked in, it looked like it was just a poke bar. I wasn't going to stay, because I had had poke the previous day. However, I'm Glad I stopped to take a second look, because they also have a good Hawaiian food menu. You order at the counter, and then you also pick up at the counter when your food is ready. I was helped by Rico. Very friendly, very helpful, and very knowledgeable about the food. I decided to go with the three item combo plate lunch. I chose the Korean Mochiko, fried chicken, the kalbi ribs, and the teriyaki beef. I asked Rico if the Mochiko sauce was spicy, and he said it was a bit. He offered to leave it off, but instead, I asked for it on the side. The food came, and there was a lot! The teriyaki beef was tender and had lots of flavor, as were the ribs. The ribs were just literally fall off the bone. The chicken had an amazing crunch, and had a very good flavor as well. The sauce wasn't too spicy. I thought it was Sriracha, but when I asked Rico, he said that it was gochujang mixed with miso, to tone down the spice a little bit. It was amazingly good. I was continuously dipping my chicken in that sauce. Like any good plate lunch, it also came with two scoops of rice, and a decent portion of Mac salad, both which were also very good. Somehow, I finished the entire meal. It was a fantastic meal. For all I got, the price was very reasonable, and they even offer a military/veterans discount. I want to come back and try more things. Loco oh no.... Sorry, but we were not impressed. The garlic shrimp was extremely disappointing as the only garlic flavor came from a few chopped pieces of seemingly raw garlic sprinkled on top of the fried shrimp. Hawaiians are know for some fantasticly potent garlic shrimp (such as Giovanni's Shrimp Truck) so this was a major letdown. Also, some other reviews mentioned lots of meat but our portions felt skimpy, and at $16+ a plate we were hoping to get some value. The chicken was good but I have to admit I was hoping for more of that fatty thickly sliced chicken thigh meat. The katsu was crispy but the curry tasted just like the mild boxed curry (S&B brand). The macaroni salad was also very soggy in texture. The service was friendly at least. As for the ambiance, I feel like having a Hawaiian themed restaurant would be so easy. Make the walls inside the restaurant colorful and/or hang large Hawaiian prints (surfers, plumeria flowers, rainbows... something!). I'm glad I gave this place another chance after previously visiting another location in Sparks a while back. I ordered the mochiko chicken to go and omg! Huge portion; I was able to easily share with my husband. I'm also a fan of the Mac salad here- not too mushy like some places in town. I also had a regular poke bowl ( not pictured ) which came with 3 proteins - salmon tuna and shrimp with all the amazing toppings you can think of . The service is always quick even if you don't call in an order . My food took 10 minutes which means they made my chicken fresh. My very first time in the Reno area, let alone Reno itself, so after landing at the Reno Airport we decided to grab quick bite before heading to South Lake Tahoe. Loco Ono was just a few miles away from the airport, about 10 minutes, and is located in small mini shopping plaza. Lots of parking which was great. The serve Poke bowls and other specialties associated with cuisine from Hawaii. The mochiko chicken (fried chicken with sticky sweet rice mixture) was crispy and very tasty. We had that in the sandwich and plate choices, both were very good. The spam musubi with furikake, and the musubi with katsu was also very good. I ordered the Hawaiian breakfast two eggs, spam and Portuguese sausage, to my surprise the Portuguese sausage links were excellent. All in all the Hawaiian food was excellent, the Poke bowls needs some work. The girl working the cash register was nice and patient with us, being it was our first time there. I discovered over the summer what a colossal Poke fan I am. Most of our stops were in Ohio. Finally, we get our shot at LOCO ONO. Salmon Belly Fish Taco. Tasty, filling and a tad pricey. Well worth it! Portion size is pretty good, so it justifies. I love to build my own bowl, too. I start with brown rice then tuna, octopus, or salmon. The sesame shoyu sauce and top it off with either cucumber, edamame or ginger. Everything tasted fresh to me and a vast improvement over comparable sites back east. It looks like a decent sized restaurant where you can relax and feel no pressure. Unfortunately, we have to order to go and sit in the park with the pooches.
