As I sit at the bar with salmon eggs popping in my mouth, I think: life is good, but not perfect, same for Tokyo Sushi. Most times I come alone an hour before closing and get a seat at the bar almost immediately even with groups on the waiting list. This visit, I was astonished to find 36 people on the waitlist with only an hour left so had to wait a bit. At that late point they hand out order sheets while you're waiting, which for diehard groups seated shortly before closing means placing a MEGA order as soon as you sit down, followed by a rushed scarfing-down session as the staff begins closing up shop. The menu is quite large with heavy overlap with the menus at most other AYCE places. Roll selection is good and popular, as I look to either side, I'm appreciative of most patrons filling up on rolls commonly made with fake Krab (same stuff in frozen fish sticks), deep-fried ingredients, and generous applications of mayo and eel or teriyaki sauce. These cost the restaurant far less than a steady stream of nigiri, effectively subsidizing the roughly $120 worth of assorted nigiri I'm about to consume for about a third of that price. To each their own. The rice was perfectly seasoned and properly cooked, the most important part of sushi, though on one previous visit it leaned a bit too sweet. The fish tasted good, I wouldn't call it 'fresh' as most sushi fish comes frozen (except the Salmon and shellfish) so 'well thawed and not old' might be better description. The fish-to-rice ratio is better than at most competing spots. Service is usually decent but attentiveness can vary and lag when busy if you aren't assertive and use the call button or flag someone down. Also double check your credit card bill that a higher tip that you designated wasn't charged which happened to me once. The combination of a packed dining room, skewing on the young midtown crowd side, and upbeat music, makes the place LOUD and festive, with sports on two large-screen TVs. The downside is that carrying on a conversation in a larger group can be challenging. The bar refrigerator sits high enough that you can't really watch the chefs work, and when combined with the noise and possibly a language barrier, forget about chatting with the sushi chef. Food-wise, it's easy to place Tokyo Sushi in Reno's top three AYCE options, though you'll pay a few dollars more than average at roughly $45 per person with tax and tip as of June 2026. However its extreme popularity fills the parking lot and creates wait times capable of testing almost anyone's patience. Waiting over an hour during peak dinner service is not uncommon, and the crowded waiting area may leave you standing outside or sitting in your car. Hungry couples and groups may want to consider less busy alternatives, especially on a 90+ degree summer day or when winter "rolls" around.

I love sushi and it so happened I was nearby. Sushi is decent and I can't really say much about service. They asked what I want to drink, they brought it( asked if I'm ready to order, I was; they brought my food; I snuffed my meal and asked for a check and paid for it. Ambience is casual and the same as every sushi place in Reno.

Tokyo Sushi has always been one of my go to spots for sushi. One thing I really love is that their rolls aren't overloaded with rice, which lets the fish and other ingredients shine. The fish is always fresh, and the flavors are consistently on point every time I visit. It's a reliable spot that never disappoints when I'm craving sushi.

Busy busy busy....means always fresh!! Best selection so far that we have discovered with regards to nigiri selections in Reno. They have a buzzer system at the bar when you need to order. Press it and a waitstaff appears. Check the special of the day board to get a new taste. Mussels are limited to 2 orders per person. You can order rolls without all the sauce on them to get the real flavor of the fish. So my chooses and they were all great!!

The food is one of the best sushi spots around. The outside of the building doesn't represent how nice it is inside with great atmosphere. Lunch is packed, so get there early. Service was super responsive early on.... But we may have gotten lost after the first round. However it was all worth the wait.

Tokyo Sushi is one of my go-to sushi spots in town. I always enjoy their nigiri, especially the peppered tuna, they're the only place I know around here that serves it, and it's usually really good depending on which sushi chef is making it. They also have a few solid hand roll options that I like. Service is good and pretty fast, depending on how busy they are. One thing I do wish was better is the sushi rice. It tends to fall apart, and the flavor doesn't really taste like traditional sushi rice. I've also noticed that on the 2nd and 3rd orders, they tend to add more rice. Some of our favorite rolls are the Black Angel, Carson City, Tokyo, and Chao rolls. For sure top 5 sushi spots in Reno for us.

We came here to celebrate my cousin's graduation and had such a great experience! Even though the restaurant was really busy, we were seated surprisingly fast and the service was excellent the entire time. The food was amazing, but the mussels were definitely my favorite -- I even had to take a picture of them because they were that good. I think we ordered like 50 of them Everything we tried was fresh, flavorful, and came out quickly. Overall it was a really great experience and I would highly recommend Tokyo Sushi to anyone in the Reno area!

Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, I don't know what the pieces at the top do the plate were, everything was delicious.

Tokyo sushi is our go to for sushi. The hand rolls, long rolls everything is fresh and delicious. Service was fantastic, sat at the sushi bar which is where I love to sit if there is only 2 of us, tables are great as well if you have a larger group. The bar seating now has service buttons at your seat if you need water, drinks or anything that the sushi chef can't provide. This restaurant is always packed, but they do get you in quickly. Atmosphere is clean and inviting. We went home stuffed and into a food coma . If you haven't been here for sushi you must put Tokyo sushi on the top of your list.

This is my favorite Sushi spot when in Reno. The Sushi is always so good and fresh. Service is always on point. They serve nice size rolls and generous portions. I also love the crab roll appetizer. Yum! Great prices Ala Carte or All you can eat. This place is always packed no matter what time of the day you come so it's best to make reservations. Fun and lively atmosphere! Cozy Japanese inspired decor. Accommodating small and large groups.

Went to Tokyo Sushi for my cousin's graduation dinner and had a really great experience. Even though they were extremely busy, they were still able to get our party of 8 seated in a reasonable amount of time, which we really appreciated. The food came out surprisingly quick and definitely didn't disappoint. Everything we ordered was good, but the baked mussels were easily my favorite -- we must have ordered at least 50 of them throughout the night because they were that addictive. The staff was great the entire evening, stayed attentive, and handled the busy atmosphere really well. Overall, it was a fun dinner with good food, good service, and a great spot for celebrating special occasions.

We decided to give Tokyo Sushi a try and, unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience from start to finish. Upon being seated, we were told to fill out the all-you-can-eat order form as many times as we wanted, which sounded great. I personally don't eat sushi, but I appreciated that they offered protein options like chicken and beef. I ordered a Bento box--simple enough. That's where things started to go downhill. My meal didn't arrive for over 30 minutes, and when it finally did, it was cold. The chicken tasted like pressed meat and was extremely chewy--definitely not what you'd expect from a basic entrée. I wasn't planning to complain, but it became clear the issue wasn't just my order. The other four people in my group were barely being served at all. Meanwhile, tables that were seated after us were receiving multiple rounds of food while we continued waiting. We asked several servers for updates, and each time we were told they'd check on it--only for them to disappear for 10-15 minutes with no follow-up. After spending over two hours there, many of us left hungry and frustrated. I understand places like this may rely on high turnover or tourist traffic, but customer service and basic food quality should still matter. If you're taking the time to read reviews before choosing where to eat, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. And just to top it off--the ice cream was so frozen solid in its pre-staged cup that the spoon couldn't even break through it.

It has been years since we had been to this place for sushi. It has been redone on the inside and attracts a different kind of clientele these days. When we walked in I was impressed. It was 4pm and almost every table in the house was taken up, and so was the bar. I saw the prices, and they are a little higher than most places in town, but we are willing to pay to try the place. We ordered a huge variety of items from jalapeño poppers to Donald ducks, to quail egg shooters to a variety of rolls. Everything was tasty and fresh. My kid liked one of the baked rolls so much he ordered 3 of them. I liked the hand rolls but found it a little strange that you couldn't order most rolls in a hand roll version they have a hand roll section with about 8 rolls. The place stayed busy till we left and had even started a waiting list. One thing we were excited for was they offered a salmon kama order for each AYCE sushi. We only ordered one and shared it, but it was delicious. We have only had a hamachi kama before so this was a treat. Not sure how ofter we will eat tbere cause it is more expensive, but so glad we went and tried it. Nice for a treat. Oh,and they have huckleberry ice cream for dessert, and they let me have the deep fried banana with huckleberry ice cream instead of vanilla. .

Tokyo Sushi is easily the best sushi spot in Reno absolutely no question about it! From the moment you walk in, the staff makes you feel welcome, and the service is consistently fast, friendly, and attentive. The sushi itself is unbeatable: fresh, flavorful, and perfectly bite-sized so you can enjoy every roll without feeling overstuffed. My personal favorites are the Tokyo Roll and the M3 Roll as both are packed with flavor and balance beautifully between texture and taste. Every roll feels carefully crafted, and it's clear the chefs here know what they're doing. What sets Tokyo Sushi apart is the consistency you always know you're going to get high-quality sushi and a great experience every time. Whether you're a sushi regular or bringing friends who are new to it, Tokyo Sushi is the place I always recommend. Between the unbeatable rolls, great service, and lively atmosphere, it's the kind of spot you'll keep coming back to again and again. Truly the best sushi in town!

Ask the Community - Tokyo Sushi

Is pricing the same for weekends and holidays?

    Yes

If I went with a group, can some people get AYCE and others order items a la carte? Thanks!

either the whole group must get AYCE or none: with the exception only if the non-AYCE eaters order bento boxes. (I'm not sure why, but this same situation happened to me this past weekend)

Does all you can eat run until close? Probably getting there around 7 in a couple of days and want to make sure we'll be ok :)

Yes! AYCE is always in effect. Plus, they also offer unlimited sake Monday-Thursday.

How much is all you can eat?

lunch $26.95. dinner $31.95 (accdg to one of the photos posted) 🙃

Is this place still all you can eat and is it good for big groups ( 7 ppl ) ? What are the ayce rules?

Yes and yes. Always busy. If you go for lunch I recommend you get there at 11.

    Do they take reservations?

they do not take reservations. I would recommend calling before you arrive to check the wait times. Once you arrive they take your name & number down & they will notify you when a table becomes available.

What COVID precautions is the place following?

Mask on, and social distancing between tables

Is this an all you can eat place?

    Yes.

Does anyone know if they are open for walk in? Phone goes straight to voicemail.

They are! No appointment needed now :)

Do they have any eel rolls? I didn't see any on the menu but didn't want to assume.

    Yes

Will they do separate checks for a group?

I believe they do, within reason.

    How is the parking?

The parking is ok, not a lot, but you can always find a spot either at the parking lot or along the street.

I don't see vegan option on the menu, what rolls do you have to offer?

There are several veggie options. Look at the menu

The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. It was cooler inside but once service started, it started to get hot and didn't feel much AC. Ordered the duck noodle soup, shrimp and beef clay pot, and tofu with vegetables. Everything was cooked properly (veggies cooked perfectly, shrimp & protein were on point and not overdone) BUT the flavors are subtle. Seasoning could've been increased just a bit on everything - lacked salt. Overall, would come here again for another round.

One thing we noticed right away was that the bonchon was already set on the tables before guests arrived. It wasn't a large spread--just a small tin of cheese corn and a divided tray with kimchi, bean sprouts, and fish cake--not sure how long they were left out and did look and taste dry. The servers seemed to work well together. Different team members checked on us, cleared dishes, served food, and helped other's tables. Once it got busier, they also used robot servers to help deliver food. We started with the salad with house dressing and the popcorn chicken. Both were good, and the chicken was nice and moist. For the BBQ, we ordered the Chardol, Ju Mul Luck, Hawaiian Steak, Tri-Tip Bulgogi, and Galbi (short ribs). Having eaten at quite a few Korean BBQ restaurants in Las Vegas, we noticed the portions here were a bit smaller. They also limit each round to three appetizers and four meat selections. Overall, the service was good, and we especially appreciated Eurie for being friendly and attentive. The only thing that concerned us was when another server changed our grill. Instead of lightly drizzling oil onto the grill, she forcefully squeezed the bottle, causing the oil to shoot out onto grill. It seemed like an unnecessary safety risk for both guests and employees. Our favorites were definitely the Tri-Tip Bulgogi and the Galbi. Both were flavorful and tender. The Chardol was good, but the slices were very thin and the portion felt a little small. The restaurant filled up quickly between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m., so it's clearly a popular spot. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and would come back for the Tri-Tip Bulgogi, Galbi, and the teamwork displayed by the staff.

We always go for the shared plates, it's more expensive but worth it. Some things to consider before you visit: -No reservations, first come first serve. Most nights it's a 30-45 minute wait if you don't get there right when they open. We always put our name down and walk to Chapel for a cocktail while we wait. - Like many of the reviews state, it does get pretty loud. It is part of the experience. The later the night gets, the louder the music and the dimmer the lights. Don't be the annoying person that asks them to adjust either of those things. If that's not your vibe, you should dine elsewhere. - Seating is limited, not the place to have people just trickle in/ come and go. If you are dining here, everyone should show up on time. - They do have gluten free mods, but they are not available on the weekends. - I would not recommend for vegans We have tried basically the entire menu. Our favorites are the duck fried rice, Caesar, mushroom croquettes, soba noodles, ten layers of pork, pork gyoza, shrimp fritter, Tokyo fried chicken, chicken meatballs, rice tots, and mushroom jar. Everything we've tried is outstanding, even the beef tongue! Drinks are all really good, only note I have is that the wine pours are pretty small. Parking is fairly easy, with plenty of street spaces nearby, and an easy walk if you're already hanging around the neighborhood. The service was friendly and fairly prompt, and even for a weekday night the place was bustling, leading to a bit of a backup. Cool vibes all around, and it's neat to sit at the bar and watch the chefs do their thing. Though it does mean this is a little bit on the noisy side. Look at the menu, and there are tons of tempting options. As the name suggests, their specialty here is small plate off the grill or out fo the fryer. But they do serve really good-looking ramen, too, which I will make not to try next time I swing by. I at first went with a quick bite of grilled chicken thighs, which were just amazing! They were juicy, eprfectly seared, with some grilled green onions and an amazing sweet soy sauce. I also went with the yakionigiri, which are balls of rice that are grilled, brushed with sauce, and topped with a sort of mango slaw. A bit uncommon, but wow, these were also just so delicious! Also had a glass of sake, though they have a full bar should you want some other sort of beverage. Prices here are, I feel, a little on the higher end for small plates. However, I think it is definitely worth coming and trying this place out at least once or twice, just to expereince some of the good food. I'm sorry it took me so long to finally step through the doors, but I am certain I will be back again to try more of what's on the menu.
