This time we had teriyaki chicken and chicken fried rice. Both were delicious. The teriyaki chicken was covered with the tasty teriyaki sauce while the chicken was tender and moist. The fried rice was a giant serving of both rice and chicken. Again the chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The rice was very flavorful and one of the better I've ever eaten. I was pretty content with my AYCE experience here. To my surprise, there were absolutely other guests inside except for one party which had a pickup order. Overall, $33 before tax and tip for AYCE sushi isn't a bad deal. I only had the specialty tempura rolls, but everything was prepared well. We dropped by for lunch at King Sushi the other day and when we entered the restaurant, they were devoid of customers, so our 4-person party had our pick from any table in the restaurant. We chose a table near the window so we can people watch as we waited for our meal; the host immediately dropped off menu and drinks to our table, and picked up order sheets. Our appetizers soon appeared, pipping hot and fresh from the kitchen: fried calamari rings, baked mussels, Yakiton and fried potstickers. After a few minutes a few of our sushi orders starts arriving at our table. Everything looked delectable; all the sushi rolls and nigiris were expertly prepared and tasted delicious. A last minute decision was made after our first two choices were closed. My lunch buddy, Angela F made the brilliant suggestion that we try the new place on Lake street. It was a good choice. We ordered a variety of rolls under the AYCE plan. What was a definite thumbs up is most of the menu items were included in the AYCE. All of the rolls were good and it was an excellent balance of fish to rice - the fish portions were generous. Service was good and our waitress checked on our satisfaction. Been meaning to try this place for awhile. We were going to try the new Reno bar & Grill for my monthly luncheon with Nancy V. But they were closed. Then we thought we go to the Depot, and they were closed. So I remembered the site but forgot the name and even type of restaurant it was. Pleasantly surprised that it was sushi. And glad we went. We opted for AYCE. Their rolls were on the small side, but didn't matter as we were AYCE. The rice to fish ratio was great. Just enough rice to create a single mouth full per piece. Based on the reviews, my wife and I decided to try King Sushi. This is definitely one of those times that you shouldn't believe everything you read. Here's why: - The seating area is in a big cavernous room that's not comfy at all. The music is loud and beats right through your skull. - The sushi was OK, but the pictures make all the portions look way bigger than they are. I'd have to say that the sushi is slightly above supermarket, sushi grade. - There is no sushi bar and you don't get to see them making anything... It's all hidden away. - You might as well get the all you can eat sushi deal, because we almost spent that much with just al a carte. - Service was adequate. Strange that they do not serve regular black iced tea. Tea is pretty good indicator of how authentic a place is and this spot only had sweetened raspberry. My conclusion: Knock off spot. Trying really hard to be like Toy - Kia sushi Sushi is the kind of cuisine I really dig to get down on. I especially like AYCE places. But this spot is definitely lacking in a few areas. Freshness The spicy tuna was peppery and even quite smoky. Interesting, but it also had a distinct fishy finish. The salmon was alright, the yellowtail was a bit discolored and kinda scared me off. The crazy tuna roll was good, Oddity I ordered on a sheet of paper. Like I've done a thousand times before. Yet somehow my orders seemed to keep being wrong. I ordered miso soup, and potstickers came out. I ordered a Bahia roll and a rainbow roll came out. I was perplexed. I asked if they could double check my order. They said it was what I ordered. Then I asked to see my paper on which I placed my order, the server said it had been disposed of. With only two other patrons in the place. I thought they were messing with me. My experience couldnt have gone worse. Visiting here for a day while staying a block away at the Renaissance hotel, we decided to give this place a try. Upon entering the place was relatively empty. After being seated it took a while for someone to take our order. As we sat, we began over hearing a conversation in the kitchen from what we later learned seemed to be the local health inspector. The health inspector was going saying that gloves were not being used, and they had no place to wash their hands. Hoping that things couldn't get worse while the health inspector is there, we decided to stay. We ordered udon and 2 sushi rolls. I love having a sushi place in downtown Reno. I have been here 3 times now and every time I leave satisfied. I get the all you can eat and I feel like it's a good value. The miso soup is delicious. Edamame is perfect. They are quick with your order and I appreciate that! I see comments on here that you can't watch them but I've been to other restaurants where I don't watch them prepare the food so that's not high on my list. I have been to highly recommended sushi places in Reno and it took a good hour to get my order so I love that King Sushi is fast and tasty! The rolls are smaller but the flavor is very good and in the long run that's what counts. We are in the desert so I am realistic about what to expect for sushi. I've really enjoyed being able to try all the rolls. The presentation is wonderful. They have a sweet dessert roll with strawberries and cream and it was so good! As far as the building, yes it's right downtown. There are parking meters that are free after 6pm I believe. Walking distance to the ballpark. The bridge behind it overlooks the Truckee River and is a great picture spot. But, there are the typical downtown issues. Inside it looks good but It would be nice to have some ambiance added like a fake fireplace or something like that. Either way I plan to go again soon! I've been here 3 times. This is going to be an honest, objective review about a fledgling startup business in Downtown Reno during hard times. In short, the food is good, and I think this business has potential. The venue: The Delucchi Building, built 1948, was once a drug store, maternity shop, a cocktail lounge, and then several restaurants including home-style Italian, manly hot wings and BBQ, overpriced Chicago owned by a drunkard, a burger joint which required you to register an online account to buy food, and now a fledgling minority-owned sushi place. I came for dinner the first two times, and lunch the third time. Stepping into the restaurant the first time on opening weekend, I knew to expect little in its decor. It is a quickly-cobbled startup that sprung up within a month to get revenue flowing. I was either expecting a sudden Gordon Ramsay-budgeted overnight remodel (unlikely), or absolutely no remodel. The latter turned out true: The paint job, the lights, the seating, it's all leftover from the prior business. For approximately 3 seconds, I was surprised there was no sushi bar. It's all table service. Then the reality quickly sunk in: Economically, this makes more sense for AYCE in a small 20x20' room. Hear me out: Reno's AYCE sushi ecosystem is unique. We're sushi-spoiled in this small desert town, with a network of Latinos who pump out rolls harder than a drifter in an intersection. The owner of King Sushi was previously at Tha Joint, so he knows his trade, and he's good. If you pay attention closely, you'll notice chefs behind bars spend most of their time preparing food for tables, not yours. This means if a place is packed, you can end up waiting 10 mins for a single roll at the bar. It's infuriating af. But not here. I never waited more than 5 minutes for several plates of nigiri and rolls, even when packed on a Saturday night. If you can get over the awkwardness of not seeing a bar, you'll realize your dining experience will be better this way. Service was great. But how was the food? The first two nights there, I noticed the sushi rice was stale/firm. Are they not making a new batch of rice for the evenings perhaps? If so, this needs to change. It wasn't crunchy, it was just... firm. No bueno. But the third time, for lunch, it was fresh. I like nigiri. I always start out with a bunch of those before heading to the rolls. The first night, the salmon roe was sour. I informed the owner, and the next two visits the roe was great, so that's handled. The hamachi, tuna, salmon, all great. No slime, no signs of old fish. The rolls were good as well. My favorite is The Latino and Crazy Tuna. For appetizers, the Jalapeño Poppers are phenomenal. Tempura, crab, avocado. So good. So, the food is good. That's first priority for a food place. What needs to be worked on is the ambience. The lighting above one of the tables has no filtering, so it shone too brightly on the table and make it hard to eat. The menu was done well, but the order sheets need to be made better. It says "QTY" instead of "LONG ROLL," next to "HAND," so it's confusing. The second two times I went, there was music playing. The first night though, the Spanish channel was on TV, with a kids show for the youngster being taken care of in the dining area. I mean... y'know... I understand, family issues with a startup business... but I couldn't help but laugh to myself... not a good look for opening weekend. It's got to be more professionalized. I'll give this time. Whoever did the website and food photography did an awesome job. I don't know who's tables they used because they sure aren't the basic ones in-store. So, in conclusion, come here for a solid, decent meal. Don't come here expecting luxurious surroundings. If the look and feel can be worked on, I think this place will have a good future, especially if The Freight House District ever finalizes its development. It's in a great location. I'm actually about to get dressed and head there for dinner. Give this place a chance. Edit: Just had my fourth meal there and the rice was fine. read more

The venue still presents as a haunting of the old ghost kitchen. In other words, no ambience. The restaurant blasts 2 MTV channels which interrupts any conversation. The portions are small and I'm always weary of a sushi restaurant without a sushi bar and chefs nowhere to be found. All prep done behind the curtain. First time in this location. I've seen it be a few different businesses. Food: I came here with a few friends and we had multiple rolls. I enjoyed everything other than my hamachi nigiri. It tasted a little fishy to me. I also tried the Cajun tuna. It was very good. I tried to vegetarian rolls and enjoyed both. I really enjoyed the Latino and the vegan roll. The edamame and chicken appetizers were great. Ambiance: A bit cold, light is fluorescent but not bad. There is great music in the back ground and a tv that was playing sports. This place is a solid 3-star joint. Not sure how or why anyone would give 4 or 5 stars. You walk in and it feels like walking into a sushi place in TJ- already concerning. But the sushi was surprisingly tasty! Where it falls short is that there are a million different rolls and only like 3 total have more than shrimp and imitation crab in them. The ginger is pink and tastes like dirt, totally inedible. And there is only 1 baked roll that has actual fish in it (CR7) and salmon was overcooked. My boyfriend and I decided to try King Sushi for valentines dinner. We set a reservation two days in advance. When we went, no one greeted us or asked us anything (which I noticed them do to everyone else that walked in after us). When I said we had a reservation, the lady at the front counter asked "you want to make a reservation?" i said "no, we have one" and instead of asking for a name or even looking in the system, just asks me if we want a table for 2. we just say yes and sit down but then it takes like 15 minutes for anyone to come ask for our drinks. P.s., the water tastes like it's fresh from the tap. then, it takes another 20 minutes for them to even take our order papers, meanwhile they're serving other tables and seating new people coming in. The only times they came to our table or even spoke to us was to drop off our food and then leave immediately. We asked for the check after eating (and missing an entire roll) which took another 15 minutes to bring us. When restaurants say teenagers don't tip, it's because we get treated like we're barely at a restaurant. Do better please. read more
