This place, fantastic! Love that its busy on a tuesday mid day, and still they are pumping out perfect rolls. My biggest sushi pet peeve is too much rice, Sushi Rose has the perfect ratio. Love the Mountain roll, Jasons Handroll, and Donald Duck. Muscles are 6/10 and you only get 3 orders a person which is enough. If your a fan of quail egg shooters this is the place to go, that tang and spice is wonderfuly pleasant. The place is decorated at a minimum but the food comes out so fast its hard to even look around. Great service and happy workers all around.

Inattentive service. 4 of us in the restaurant. Servers standing at the sushi bar visiting. We have had to ask for help 3 times. Selection is okay. Nothing exciting. I would not go out of my way to come here again. Ambience = 0 Music is good.

I've been here maybe 3 times in my life. It's a nice setting. Nothing wrong with it or service. I appreciate that you can eat sushi free on your bday with a friend. I just don't get much joy from their sushi. Which is strange because I like sushi. I've ordered so many different rolls and none of them really seem to do it for me. It's all just okay. I'm not sure if it's the combinations they have or just the specific ingredients they are sourcing. It's really showed me there is an art and creativity and uniqueness to sushi. All sushi is not created equally. I'll choose somewhere else for my bday next year.

I'm not going to lie, I was very skeptical when I stepped in and tried this place. This was the go to spot back in college because it was cheap and I was not a huge fan of sushi. They have upgraded the place and their price is definitely no longer cheap. I was seated right away when I came in. The sushi were pretty dang good, the nigiri tasted fresh and the rolls were delicious. I would say the rice ratio could be lessen a little bit but, overall still pretty good. The service was friendly and quick. They did add some new rolls and I'm not going to lie the oyster roll was not the greatest but, everything else was good. Overall a great visit and will come back.

A favorite sushi spot! They have great deals during the week and everything comes out nice and fast. The waitresses were attentive and made sure to grab our papers for all you can eat sushi promptly. All of the rolls were really good but I would skip the calamari and fried vegetable appetizers. The calamari was overcooked and the vegetables just didn't have flavor to me. The resultant itself is small, bright and clean! They also have a bar you can sit at and order sushi.

It has become a ritual for my wife and our friends to celebrate at Sushi Rose for birthdays because you get all you can eat sushi for free on your birthday. Ironically, I do not like sushi, but I do what to shout-out the Chinese food menu available to those like me which is actually really good and their lunch combos are great value.

Sushi Rose is still my absolute favorite sushi restaurant in Reno! The service is always fantastic and the fish is always fresh!!

Late lunch at Sushi Rose. Lunch prices run til 3 pm. Had the all you can eat sushi for $30 plus one of our group received a free lunch as it was her birthday. Show ID and come in on your birthday for free meal. Also ordered the cashew chicken lunch plate $11.50. The sushi kept coming and is always good. Menu is expensive. For Chinese selections, ask for separate menu. Appetizers and dessert included with all you can eat. Standard sushi location in NW Reno.

Craving sushi in NW Reno? We stopped in randomly - glad we did! The rolls were fresh, great options and flavor combinations. I love the Sake, the lemon wedges are the perfect size! Good selection of appetizers, my husband enjoys the hand rolls and mussels. My favorite roll was Titanic, love the jalepeno! Our service was excellent, they did forget a couple of our rolls but it was probably a good thing as we were stuffed. And finished it off with some green tea icecream.

Salmon with a special request of lemon and jalapeno. Hats off to the chef.

Decided to try a new (to me)sushi spot today. The server we had sat us quickly but took a while to get our drink order, when she finally did she forgot about us(she seemed to be the only server so it was understandable). The sushi chef was polite and made the service quick and efficient. The sushi was yummy, all you can eat included appetizers and we did enjoy them. Overall It was good, not my new favorite sushi spot but I would have it again. The place looks very clean and well kept , decor doesn't match but looks aren't as important as taste.

I love that they do free birthday sushi! This has become a tradition for our friend group. They have other great deals or specials that they run as well. The service was helpful and kind.

Ask the Community - Sushi Rose

Is it possible to get AYCE takeout on your birthday if you have one other person pay full price?

Probably best to call to see if you can do takeout for the birthday deal. Their menu only states that you have to come in on the exact day of your birthday and you must have one other individual with you that's purchasing a meal.

Can you use the free birthday sushi on any day of your birthday month or does it have to be on your actual birthday?

    Only on your actual birthday

If I brought someone with me for my AYCE birthday meal would they have to pay?

Yes they would. Only the birthday person with their ID get a free meal.

Is the free birthday meal all you can eat?

Yes, it is. Just make sure you have your ID which indicates a date of birth, cuz they will check it.

The service was 10/10. We sat at the bar, and it was really enjoyable chatting with the staff there. The atmosphere is a bit noisy, but that's because it's always busy. One thing to keep in mind the wait can be long. However, if you don't mind sitting at the bar and there's space available, take it! Instead of waiting 45 minutes, you might get seated right away. Without a doubt, this has become one of my favorite spots for sushi. Thank you!

The time it was just my husband and I was so slow. We also sat down as the second table. They had a full staff and it took the longest. The food is good. I rate the roles at a 3, but note. I like simple sushi. So I tried the rolls just to try and see what they taste like. Its good if you like likes of flavor. It removes what people say is the fishy taste. I love the taste of fish. So I typically lean towards nigiri. I will amdit their sashimi salad as a 5/5. I loved it. I thought we could order 1 per round, but thats not the case. Look at the menu and its once per visit. The salmon hand roll is a 1 for me. It was not very crispy and hard to power through. So I dont recommend that, but they do a roll of it. So if you share with friends it might be worth while. The Niger I rate a 3.5/5. There was a lot of rice, but they also give a good size slice of fish. What got me was it didn't have that crisp taste when I ate it. Its hard to explain. The food quality is good. Don't get me wrong. Just the service and my simple taste buds. Its very popular and many locals love it. The lady was very sweet, when we got to speak with her. So don't let my rating and my taste buds hinder you from eating here. So give them a try.

As far as AYCE goes, the sushi is 5 stars, (not the same as 5 stars at a high-end sushi spot.)…read moreOverall experience is closer to a four. This long-time Reno favorite is especially popular with the younger crowd due to the South Midtown location. Popularity is its main weakness though as it makes parking a headache, (not an area to leave valuables), and there is almost always a wait, often nearing or exceeding an hour during prime weekend dinners. No reservations. Don't be surprised if you have to wait outside or in your car. Once seated, place fewer large orders instead of many small ones since staff are stretched thin. Conversation can be tough with the loud packed room and music. Sports usually on big screens. Even at the sushi bar, it is not the usual experience. You still order on paper. High bar fridges block the view, and with 6 to 8 chefs working fast, conversation is unlikely. You are there to eat, not watch the craft or make a new friend behind the bar. Fish quality is about as good as AYCE gets in Reno, and the rice is less sugary than most. Nigiri often has the best fish-to-rice ratio in town. Good roll selection, including a Salmon Skin Handroll. Like many spots, some rolls are heavy on eel sauce or mayo, making the fish secondary unless you skip sauce or choose simpler options. The baked mussel appetizer was drenched in sweet sauce and tasted like candy. Surprised there was no mayo on those too. Price is a couple dollars above average local AYCE but worth it if you tolerate the wait, still cheaper than casinos. Monday through Thursday, sake is included. Arguably the best spot in Reno right now, though on a busy night I might pick one of the close seconds if I want to eat quickly. NOTE: It appeared they charged a higher tip than I left, so check your credit card charge a few days later

Upon being seated, we were told to fill out the all-you-can-eat order form as many times as we wanted, which sounded great. I personally don't eat sushi, but I appreciated that they offered protein options like chicken and beef. I ordered a Bento box--simple enough. That's where things started to go downhill. My meal didn't arrive for over 30 minutes, and when it finally did, it was cold. The chicken tasted like pressed meat and was extremely chewy--definitely not what you'd expect from a basic entrée. I wasn't planning to complain, but it became clear the issue wasn't just my order. The other four people in my group were barely being served at all. Meanwhile, tables that were seated after us were receiving multiple rounds of food while we continued waiting. We asked several servers for updates, and each time we were told they'd check on it--only for them to disappear for 10-15 minutes with no follow-up. After spending over two hours there, many of us left hungry and frustrated. I understand places like this may rely on high turnover or tourist traffic, but customer service and basic food quality should still matter. If you're taking the time to read reviews before choosing where to eat, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. And just to top it off--the ice cream was so frozen solid in its pre-staged cup that the spoon couldn't even break through it.

They did an amazing job with the interiors and it has a high-end dining vibe. However, there are several things in the customer service department that needs improvement. First, it's impossible to get a table without a reservation, unless you're willing to wait 20+ minutes. One reason is the chaotic triage process at the front. There isn't enough dedicated space for the waiting area, and as soon as there is more than 1 group, the system implodes. This means that, even if you walk in with a reservation, you get lost in the crowd until the host can effectively sort out who's who. Second, while your order might come out at a reasonable speed, it's impossible to get anything else. The servers are always busy, and every time we have asked for a refill, another roll, a box, etc, we eventually just give up and hope that we aren't charged for something we didn't get. I still find myself coming back since this is the only sushi restaurant that seems to have high quality food and well-balanced flavors. Most places seem to prioritize quantity over quality now. Just be prepared for some glitches in customer service, adjust your expectations, and you can still walk away having eaten a great meal.
