Tonight our server (male is glasses). Came and questioned me about my big order. "I'll charge you for the rolls you don't eat".. Ok no problem! (8 rolls). Then he mentioned "you don't get to eat half off because it's only you doing all you can eat". Ok that's fine!! But the manner in which he spoke to me bothered me. We LOVE going to Sushi Rose every year on our birthday for AYCE sushi. It's great for the birthday person because they get their meal and all-you-can-drink hot sake for free (regardless of group size). We always have good service and we thoroughly enjoy our experience. We typically order a variety of nigiri, handrolls, and long rolls to enjoy when we go so it's hard to pick out our favorite options but I'll try. For nigiri, we love the smoked salmon, salmon, and the Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. For the handrolls and rolls we always switch it up but typically order something spicy. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I've ever had but it's really good and can't beat the birthday AYCE offer! Ambiance is noisy as staff lets dirty dishes slam into the bussing tubs. You communicate with the staff through their Yelp check-in stand, and by filling out your paper order form. Questions on the menu? As kindly as I can say it, the staff simply did not speak English well enough to interact about their menu, sake types, nothing. It appears they are using tech to get around the language barrier but there are issues. It is a small restaurant and there were 8 of us (different parties) waiting up front to be seated. Unless you checked in on the Yelp stand, you were ignored. I ended up inadvertently signing in ahead of someone who was already there because they did not understand how it worked. I wouldn't say this is the best sushi in Reno, but for the price and the service I will say it's one of the best sushi places in Reno! Mondays are key, all you can eat sushi paired with all you can drink beer and sake. Dangerous combination, but an offer I can't refuse. I'm a fan of nigiri over rolls, and they have all the usual suspects. The Yellowtail and Tuna are both good. I did try a couple rolls and nothing to brag about, but also not bad. It's a smaller place, as most sushi spots are, so make sure you get in early on Mondays as no one wants to leave. Looking forward to my next visit, huge bonus to go during Football season! read more

This, once again, is our go-to place for the quality and variety of sushi. Not much from the outside (in a strip center next to the funky old Bully's), but inside is bright and lively (remodeled not to long ago). Plenty of tables and a decent size bar. Chefs and staff are friendly, orders come up quick (faster at the bar). Again, super fresh offerings and a number of unique rolls (long and hand). A new favorite is the Chao long roll...Tempura Shrimp, Spicy Crab, Cucumber, Tuna, Salmon, Lemon, Avocado, Cilantro. Great flavor combination. If you're not familiar with Sushi Rose, put it on your dining rotation, especially if you live in the Northwest. Even so, worth the drive, especially on your birthday! read more

We were looking for a Japanese/sushi restaurant in the area, and we decided to try Sushi Rose based on the location and Yelp reviews. It is a clean smaller place in a local strip mall with plenty of parking. No comment on the Service since we ordered online and picked it up to go. We ordered a several items and unfortunately we were disappointed with most of what we received so we will probably not go back. To provide some context, I included a summary of what we got since they have many other options. - Tempura Shrimp and Veggie: good sized portion with 5-6 shrimp, 2 slices each of zucchini and sweet potato, rice and miso soup. The miso soup and rice were good, but the batter was thick and chewy, not a light or crispy tempura batter and no panko. - Tempura Calamari were large rings of chewy squid with the same thick and chewy batter as the shrimp and veggie tempura. - Potstickers were also chewy and the filling seemed like it was just some type of ground pork/meat, no veggies. - Tiger sushi roll had the same tempura shrimp, but was otherwise good - Donald Duck sushi was the one item that we really enjoyed with fresh salmon, spicy imitation crab, avocado and lemon. read more

Even though they had lots of servers, it took awhile for things to get going for us. They use small paper togo menus, I had to ask for water refills. It was pretty fast getting food though. Got the rose salad and tempura calamari to start. Tempura batter was really dense, calamari was chewy and thin. Rose salad was a rice wine vinegar based salad with tons of cracked pepper in it for some reason. Not the biggest fan. Prices are cheap for sushi in Reno though. Nigiri was $3.99. Long rolls $9. Quality of sushi was pretty average. Not bad but not great. Quantity of a roll was good size but cut into small pieces. Didn't use an exorbitant amount of rice in their rolls which was nice. Their rolls weren't anything fancy. Lots of rolls with cream cheese, Mayo, shrimp tempura, spicy crab and spicy tuna. Several years ago, we happened upon Sushi Rose quite by accident and scored my hubby's bday dinner on the house! AND gratis sake, too! Now, on my daughter's 11th bday last week, we were thrilled to learn that the complimentary bday sushi offer still stands! (On your ACTUAL bday, btw, and with appropriate ID) We got a table with no delay, which was great! The dining room was pretty full, too, at almost 6pm on a Thursday! Our order was taken promptly for drinks, apps, and our first sushi order. It always *seems* like a while before the sushi starts rolling out - especially when you're hungry - but it was pretty speedy! Sushi was great! Like, beyond good - great! We have had less than stellar AYCE around Reno lately, so we had set the bar pretty low, but our party of 5 were all impressed by the quality, variety and presentation of each order. It was honestly a bonus that baby girl's meal was on the house, but we'd come back again just for regular AYCE when we;re in the NW. We were driving in from Truckee and I wanted some sushi. It was 7:45 PM and my wife found this place. Really not off to a good start, as soon as we walked in an old lady told us they were closing soon. I told them that their business hours at 9 PM, the lady said they wanted to close early. This is not a good business model. There's about six people at the bar, 2 tables when walked in. Since we are not doing all you can eat sushi, it's not an issue for us for only having 30 minutes, However other people came in behind us at 8:00 clock and they said closing early. Then even more came in. They were turned away at 8:07. Nothing more disappointing coming in an hour before closing and told that they are closing early. Lucky we ordered alacart not all you can eat (AYCE is $26.95 dinner, $20.95) Plenty of people in here, plenty of workers, no reason to turn people away. What we ordered: Large hot sake Mountain roll Crystal shrimp hand roll Large sashimi plate The Mountain Roll and hand roll came out pretty fast. Unfortunately, the fish on the roll was really thin. I do think that ordering alacart, should reflect the price, not giving the same as AYCE where they try to fill you with rice. Also, the hand roll had very little fish. The sashimi on the other hand was nice large pieces, though it came with no rice or salad. This is the first time ordering a sashimi dinner that was only fish. But I did enjoy the fish. So we've gone to this place a couple of times and so far they have been really good. The ambiance is alright, the place is well lit that you don't need your phone flash to see the menu. The servers are nice and friendly, as well as attentive to your needs. The fish has always been fresh for those times we went there. All the chefs there have always been friendly and accommodating. The upside down shrimp is so good it's got like this crab mayonnaise seasoned stuff that's on a sliced open piece of shrimp and it is just so good I wish they came in more than orders of two because I would eat way more than orders of two LOL and the San Francisco is the tempura shrimp onion and avocado long roll it is so good especially dipped in wasabi and soy sauce. The chefs are amazing there they also have the Chinese restaurant that is connected to it so someone in your group doesn't eat sushi they can always just order the Chinese food it's family owned and it is just delicious and the next time I go out there I will definitely get pictures read more

We are so happy to have this fun sushi spot in our 'hood! We've been here a long time ago for dine-in AYCE. At that time, they not only had free sake, but also a free meal for your birthday! I remember the staff being very friendly and service quite efficient. Most recently, we didn't feel like leaving the house so we took advantage of their to-go special: 4 long rolls and 5 nigiri/appetizers for $26. What a steal! Our favorite rolls were the 2012 and Flower, though the Mae Anne was great too! The mussels were delicious and the potstickers had a lot of flavor. Their order online function is so easy to use too! This place is close to our house and I found out they have a great deal, the Sushi Rose Dinner! You get 4 rolls and 5 appetizers. What a deal right?!? I was excited to try this place for the first time, placed my order online for pickup, waited 45 minutes and went to go get my order... when I walked in I stood there for 10 minutes before an employee even acknowledged me. And when they did they were not friendly and almost acted like I was an inconvenience. On top of that... the website stated said it would be ready in 45 minutes when my order was placed... it didn't come out for nearly 1 hour and 15 minutes! Thennnn when the food came out it was missing items in my order. And when I asked staff for the items, they walked away without saying anything and I didn't know if I was going to be helped.. nearly 10 minutes later the rest of the items came out. I was so frustrated at all this in itself that I already considered not going back but was going to give it another shot if the sushi was good.... Worst sushi I've ever had. The sushi you get at the grocery store is better than the rolls I got. The rice was hard, the seaweed was soggy and there was barely any filling inside the roll. Whether you're sitting at the sushi bar or at the tables, service has been excellent each time I've gone in. The first time I came in was for a birthday dinner, to which they offer a FREE AYCE if you purchase one other dinner, which is fantastic for the quality and relatively similar price of this spot versus others in town. They do free beer and sake on Mondays with AYCE, and free Sake Monday through Thursday with AYCE - easily saving you $16 even if you only get a couple drinks, considering the prices of alcohol at other sushi spots. I love that their rolls were smaller so you had a chance to try an arrangement of different rolls and nigiri. The nigiri had good rice to fish ratio. I didn't feel like I was eating a rock size of rice like some other places. It was Friday night and super busy and yet we never had to wait long for any rolls or to put in our orders. 100% will be back, and soon!!
