Came with a group for a birthday for my first time here, and was a bit nervous since I am allergic to shellfish and sharing sushi can be risky. I didn't have to worry though, the staff answered all my questions about ingredients and announced each roll as they were delivered to the table. The quality of the rolls were great, particularly for AYCE, and the crispy rice tuna appetizers were the star of the meal for most of our party, we couldn't stop ordering them! The jalapeno poppers were also delicious and a repeat order for the night. Overall great sushi spot: my personal constructive feedback would be to make the online menu they have you scan at the table clearer with which rolls contain shellfish for those with allergies. read more

Either these beloveds sushi restaurants are begging to fade into ubiquity or they all tasted the same from go because this is now the third or fourth spot I've recently revisited and found myself wondering what exactly makes any of these different from each other. I spotted some new specials on the social media handles for this restaurant which put it right on my radar. We tried to pop in at Valentine's Day, but they were slammed and we found our way back there a week or so ago to give it a try. We arrived and found there were no actual references to the new specials on the menu so after showing the social media post, the head chef behind the bar quickly said yes, we can make those and that we put in our order for the crispy sushi rice with spicy tuna. Four fairly thick slabs of sushi rice that was crisp on one side, came out, topped with cool chopped spicy tuna, and a sliver of jalapeño. It was a nice way to start the meal but very starch heavy and certainly not something I could revisit. We then ordered some Nigiri and it was as you expect. Ratio of fish to rice was fair but the fish quality was average and the rice really didn't have any flavor. Do you know they serve was pretty tasty and the muscles were decent too, but I found the salmon to be pretty lean and the Cajun version of a bit on the salty side. I ordered up some rolls as well, but really couldn't tell you which ones I enjoyed or didn't enjoy because they all tasted pretty much the same, best described as raw focused with spicy sauces. It was kind of a bummer because the descriptions made each rule sound so unique but it just didn't deliver on arrival. Sitting at the bar, the service was fast and everything was made fresh. I do love watching the Sushi chefs make work their magic and feel it's a big part of the overall experience. Unfortunately, Chef didn't really interact with us across the bar and we had to ask for their attention when we wanted it and I do hope for a little bit more participation when seated at these places. All in all, this is a good local sushi spot. I just remembered it being a bit more novel and unique which at this point is what I'm looking for in a new Sushi favorite. read more

Relatively new to Reno and have been checking out sushi restaurants. I will confess to being from LA, and my sushi expectations are pretty high. However, I am happy to report that 2 Tha Joint was a very good experience with tasty, fresh sushi. The menu was large, with plenty of options. The restaurant was large, with many tables and bar seating. Pretty twinkling lights added to the ambiance, too. Plenty of free parking, easy entrance with no wait time. The food was served quickly and was professionally prepared. The wait staff was efficient, and the food was good, too! This will be my go-to sushi place, and I'm pretty happy to have found a good spot. My only suggestion for improvement is to broaden the food selection, for example, by adding crab and other fish besides tuna. See you next time! read more

Great price for very fresh sushi. $34 for all you can eat the yellowtail was amazingly fresh. The rolls were yummy and inventive. My husband was able to find quail egg for his tabico which he loves and this is the first place we have found it in Reno. All you can eat, comes with appetizers and things like edamame and Goza. The rules were delicious and I really loved the popper which is pictured below. The only reason I don't give a five is because of ambience but honestly why pay for ambience at this great price for sushi? read more

This was my 3rd and probably last visit for a long time. Sadly I've not reviewed Tha Joint previously because my earlier experiences were better than the last. The location is great for me, close to home and even when it's busy you can usually find parking. The inside isn't really decorated in any specific theme from what I can tell, looks like your typical strip mall sushi place. For this meal, we came for my daughters birthday for a late lunch. It wasn't very crowded but everything took forever. Ordering, getting drinks, getting the appetizers, the Sushi, it all took much longer than normal. There were lot's of employees so not sure what the issue was, but it almost felt as if we were inconveniencing everyone just being there. One thing that really annoys me at any sushi place is when they don't tell you what they have brought to the table. They just throw down a plate and let you guess which roll or Nigiri it is. I also don't really like the roll options, they are all very similar, most of them are spicy or have cream cheese, etc. vs. fresh fish rolls. The nigiri has always been pretty good here so that is what I will typically stick with. After a 2+ hour dining experience (not because we wanted to be there that long) we wrapped up and headed out. One of the servers did apologize to us for the long wait which was nice bit a little too late to redeem this place in my eyes, will move on to one of the many other great sushi spots in Reno. read more

First time here and loved it! The "prison theme" is a cute concept, but glad that other than the naming of Sushi rolls, nothing else is prison-like! We went for the All You Can Eat Sushi, and I can say everything we ordered was excellent. For appetizers we had the Mussels and Miso Soup and then sampled a variety of Maki Sushi, Hand Rolls and Nigiri and even had room for a Quail Egg and Tobiko Shooter. This is the first sushi place that I have been too that is not in a casino. I am not a huge sushi person , but I saw they had vegetarian option so I decided to try their tempura veggie. Easiest review I've ever written. I've loved this place since I was in high school. Took a break for several years because my girlfriend didn't really care for it (but to be fair, when we first got together, she was super loyal to her usual spot and refused to branch out lol), but I recently convinced her to give it another shot since we've been on a mission to try all of the local sushi restaurants. Since then, I've lost count of how many times we've come back. We even convinced an extremely picky friend of ours to come try the food here and now she begs to come with us. Tha Joint offers an overall delicious sushi dining experience. Very clean and inviting staff makes you feel welcome right off the bat. Some of the good, The Escape and One in the Million rolls truly shine with their flavors, presentation and taste. Now some of the bad the mussels and potstickers didn't impress, the Mussels were dry, and potstickers had no sauce other then soy sauce and was rather dry as well. I'm not quite sure what happened in the past year but my most recent experience was decidedly mid. As with my first visit the miso soup was devoid of flavor. What was new was that everything was unimpressive and somethings were unappetizing. The mussels on my most recent visit were tough and tasted bad. If it wasn't for the hardy douse of sriracha I wouldn't have finished the bite. As we continue to seek the best AYCE sushi in Reno we find our expectations to be higher than what we experienced. The sushi is all fine and edible but there are better options. Maybe it was just an off night! read more

Tha Joint hostess was pleasant. The food was good. The sushi chefs were unfriendly, almost smug. They asked if we were all you can eat customers and that's about it. Servers are friendly and helpful so you don't wait much time for your items. The inside of the restaurant really needs a refresh though as it has always felt like it was not completely finished. Im going to share a little undercover secret with you. Reno, NV is the sushi capital of the U.S.A. You will never find as many All You Can Eat sushi restaurants representing in one area than in Reno, NV across this great nation. From Seattle to San Francisco and up the eastern sea board I have yet to find A.Y.C.E sushi outside of Reno, NV. And word on tha streez is that many folks from the Sacramento area roll over the hill to enjoy this wonderful sushi paradise. So on my last sushi outing I was brought by a buddy 2 Tha Joint...and no they don't have complimentary blunts after dinner... but they do got mochi for you! So one of my all-time favorite new sushi rolls to date is Tha Epic High. It contains habanero mayo!!! It's so legit and the spicy just has me craving more. If I was locked up in Tha Joint my last meal would include Tha Epic High long or hand roll. Service was excellent, the sushi was excellent...don't let the other phony Yelpstars fool you this is one amazing sushi joint! read more

I think I've eaten here once in person, but I've taken out several times. We are vegetarians so I'm happy they have veggie roll options here! They even have a couple of fun and unique veggie rolls, which is a nice change from other places that only have a cucumber or avocado roll. Sometimes the sweet potatoes in the roll are a little under cooked, but we overall we've had a good experience. Take out is very easy as the table is right when you walk in. This all-you-can-eat Sushi joint is legit. I've been coming here for quite some time now. This time it was a girls night out and we indulged. During the weekends, it can get a bit busy, so I suggest making reservations like we did. We only waited for about 5-10 mins while they cleared and cleaned a table for us. This restaurant is one of the bigger sushi spots in town and they also have a private dining room for larger parties. The vibe here is pretty chill and they play music in the background. It's a fun atmosphere. This is a very reasonable spot for AYCE. The service here is great, our server was friendly and attentive. She kept our beers and sake full throughout dinner. We started with some appetizers: edamame, mussels, and yakitori. All very delicious! Then we moved on to Nigiri: the hamachi here is delicious, tasted fresh and melted in your mouth. But the Cajun Salmon, this is fire. I could literally eat those all day. The flavor is absolutely delicious. A must try if you've never had it before. You'll be hooked. They come with fish eggs, but you can always omit. The upside down shrimp is so good too. The Mickey and Minnie were bomb. And then there were quail egg shooters, if you're into that. My best friend loves these and she really likes the ones at this spot. We ordered a handful of rolls, but Tha Joint and Tha Five-O are my favorites. The rolls here are very flavorful, big, and filling. AYCE is the best so you try different rolls and share. The hot sake here is delicious, but if you're into cold flavored sake, their mango and strawberry sake is super tasty too. Overall, it was a great dinner with delicious food, and wonderful service. I wanted AYCE sushi for my birthday, and a buddy recommended this place. I had intended on going to a place down the street, but I trusted his judgement and went here. Glad I did. This is now my favorite AYCE sushi place in Reno/Sparks...lemme tell you why. Location - it's in South Reno, close to my home. The building - an unassuming exterior hides a spacious, well decorated space with cool music. (ie rock tunes from my high school and early 20s) seriously, every other sushi place makes me practically elbow to elbow with strangers, so having a little breathing room is nice! I can stretch out and enjoy my space without being intruded on. THE WAIT STAFF - All caps because these folks were amazing, attentive, polite, perfectly chatty, and made us feel welcome. The food - clearly what made me most happy here. Now I will say it wasn't perfect, which always concerns me because most of these places say they'll charge you for whatever you don't finish. And while this place has the same policy, the wait staff told me "don't force yourself to eat something you don't like. If you try it and make an effort, we totally understand if you don't want to eat it." Yet another reason I dig the wait staff. They're awesome! That being said, the only two things I didn't like was the ceviche appetizer, because it had no acid, no spice, no kick. Tasting like mostly cucumber and water, it left me wanting the real thing. Also, the deep fried cooked roll I had tasted STRONGLY of fish. Like pungently so. The wait staff told me "don't worry, we don't like that one either. And word of advice, don't order the cooked rolls late in the day, because they're prepped early, and sit in the fridge all day until eaten." They told me ordering them for lunch would be a better bet. Everything else I tried here was amazing. Crazy chicken appetizer, basically a better version of sweet and sour chicken. Gyoza, soft and pillowy, but ALSO crispy and delicious, with flavorful filling. Miso soup was perfectly seasoned. Yakiton had a bit too much sauce on it for my liking, but was cooked perfectly and had a good tasting filling. Nagiri had nice big slices of fish on it. My two favorite rolls are definitely tha BLC and tha Highway. Oh, and they have a green habanero mayo sauce you HAVE to try. Spicy, creamy, tangy, rich, and a perfect addition to the typical Sriracha, wasabi, and soy people normally use for a accoutrement. I found myself craving the spicy creamy tang more than soy sauce, more than Sriracha. I definitely want to go back to this place. For the space, for the polite and friendly wait staff, and for the amazing food experience. 5 out of 5. read more

We came in for a late lunch and there was a small crowd. We were seated pretty quickly and our server arrived within a minute. We did AYCE and each ordered at least two rolls. I ordered Spider, Tha Shiznit, and The Cookster. The spider was OK and I enjoyed The Shiznit a lot! I would say that was my favorite of all the rolls I ordered. The Cookster was my least favorite and probably will not be ordering again. I've had deep fried sushi before and The Cookster was just on the extra crispy side LOL! It was almost painful on the roof of my mouth to chew LOL! I ate about three off the plate and I was done with it. The tempura banana ice cream dessert was DE-LISH!!! 3/4 Reno locals recommended this place but it was super underwhelming. Fun flavor combos but sometimes you just want a crispy tempura roll not a slice of lemon or a bunch of hot sauce. Ice cream was bland. Rolls were different combos but still tasted the same. Good appetizers and nigiri and raw stuff. Disliked every roll we got. Atmosphere was not good and we wanted to leave asap. Our rolls didn't arrive for 15 mins but once they did, yum! My daughter got a Spicy Tuna and a Twister whilst I got a BLC and an Escape.
