My boyfriend and i discovered this place about 3 years ago when we were new to the area. The sushi is so fresh and the rolls are unique, they are not too big so you can order many. However, the food is the only reason we continue to come back. The past few times we have gone the service isn't great. Our waters run empty and they only come around to bring the check. The chefs are always nice and on top of it! I recommend sitting at the bar if you're doing AYCE

Aury have us really great service! He started letting us know about the menu since it was our first visit. He offered a favorite sushi roll suggestion as well. The restaurant was open and spacious with seats for groups and individuals. And we tried everything from the dragon, to the Gemini to the caterpillar, and uni "shooters". We ate great food. We also had edemami and miso soup. There were a lot of people in the restaurant but it didn't allow them down, they were really quick and thoughtful and the food was made to order. I'm very pleased. I'll recommend and return. This is a good place to stop and eat, we did lunch AYCE. Even the parking was easy to find and park close.

Reluctant to go with the family but I am glad I did! Great place and wonderful nigiri sushi with escolar and butterfish! I liked that it was a lot of fish and very little rice on the nigiri. I didn't feel sick after eating and the quality was fresh. The only thing is the rice needs to be cooked a little less. Will definitely go again.

The sushi here is fantastic... fast, sushi had very little rice and tasty. There were three servers, but only one had partial command of the English language. Not being a spoiler, but could not communicate effectively and efficiently. Asked for a glass of ice and received a chilled glass. Asked for more ordering menus and none came (asked 4 times).

Came back for more sushi. If I am decided where to sushi, this is the place. I brought my date here for his bday and he knew nothing about Umi sushi's small size approach to rolls. He thought they were super cute and a genius idea. Less carbs, more of the good stuff, and smaller rolls=more variety to try. I can't remember names of things well so I actually have taken notes on the rolls I like in my phone. See photo for my list. The two lemon ones have my heart. We order three of them. We came in around 4:30 and had all you can eat and we're out in about an hour. I didn't love their potstickers. Too wheaty or something. I like them more chewy and translucent.

Good service, trendy decor, disappointing food. Cucumber salad was terrible. It still had the skin on it. The Yakiton, Gyoza, Egg Roll, and Mussels were not a good temperature at all. They were all borderline cold, like it wasn't heated up all the way. The egg rolls, gyoza and miso soup tasted store bought. The yakiton was weirdly shaped and lacked filling but it was probably the best out of all the appetizers. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were store bought too. Nothing here tasted authentic. The sushi pieces were really small which could be considered a plus if you want to try a lot of different ones. The sushi was decent. Not great but not bad. I did enjoy the nigiri though. If I were ever forced to come here again I would just get that. This place is like if someone with money and no knowledge of good sushi said "People in Reno like AYCE sushi, I'm going to open an AYCE sushi restaurant" and did it.

I have a preference for smaller rolls and less rice. This place met that desire. I was kind of surprised at how small even the long rolls are. Most places serve large rolls that can feel sloppy. This place had smaller portions that I appreciate. They were attentive, quick, professional and responsive. I ate at lunch on a Friday and they weren't overly busy. All staff seemed to help each other out. I will be back.

Went a little over a month ago for my birthday. Happened to be a Sunday and went to my usual spot on Longley and McCarran but found out that they were closed on Sundays. Never knew since we've never gone to sushi on Sundays so off to Umi Sushi! We've eaten here a couple times before but it's been awhile. We were seated to the right as soon as you walked in the door. First thing I noticed (more like felt) was that every time the door opened, I felt a cold draft on my legs. My whole party (there were 6 of us) felt it too. *Mental note to not seat so close to the door next time I eat here. They have a decent sized menu but not as big as others. Nevertheless, we ordered until we were full (reaching sushi coma). They did have mochi which was great since I haven't had that in over 6 months. Didn't know about their free birthday sushi until I got there so that was also a PLUS. Overall, great value and great time with family.

This actually is hands down the best sushi I have had in Reno. Now if I'm honest, I've had some amazing sushi around the country and of course Reno AYCE doesn't even come close to that. But for Reno AYCE, this place is 5 stars for sure. Every single thing was fresh tasting, no warm sushi (my pet peeve), and there was definitely some real creative options here. Service was great, they kept every dirty plate clear the second you took the last roll off, love that. Ambiance was pretty good too, soo many sushi places in Reno just have no decorations at all and just give mall vibes, this place had a bit of a personality to it. We will be back for sure, this is our new go to spot.

Came here for a birthday celebration and it was such a good choice. The biggest win for me was the roll size, they're smaller, which means you get to try more without feeling overly stuffed. Perfect if you like variety or are doing all-you-can-eat. The vibe really adds to the experience too. High ceilings, open space, and a lively but comfortable energy that works great for groups and celebrations. If you're someone who loves tasting a little bit of everything and wants a spot that feels fun without being overwhelming, this place is worth checking out. Great service, very nice and fast.

I've been here a couple of times when we're on this side of town and I've always had a good visit. One of my favorite part about this restaurant is the portion size of the sushi. The AYCE deal is great because rolls are smaller which gives you more room to try out different rolls. I would say if I got those rolls on a la carte I would be disappointed. The servers were nice and catered to what we needed. The restaurant was open and big enough for groups. I don't love that they charge like kids under 5. My daughter just turned 3 and had half a bowl of rice and 3 pieces of calamari rings and was charged $10.99. Overall, it was a good visit and will come back.

We tried Umi sushi for the first time based on reviews of family and since it is close to our house, we couldn't resist for a late day lunch/dinner. We entered this lively sushi restaurant on a Sunday and was seated immediately, but the restaurant was packed and the service took a bit to get caught up. We weren't seated initially with menus, so we were a bit confused on the process and what to do next . Once we got menus after flagging down a server, we went for the AYCE and just began filling out our forms as other restaurants do with appetizers and sushi rolls. Not being familiar with the rolls and their expansive menu we found several that fit our taste buds but they offer a good variety of spicier options if that is your taste. We tried both raw and cooked rolls and the nigiri. I couldn't find the menu online to try to add more details of the rolls we liked (but there wasn't one that we didn't like ).. the Big Bend. That was a baked roll that was our favorite as well as the Golden Gate. I love that these are smaller rolls, thinner cut with less rice that let you really taste the fish and lets you explore more rolls.. The calamari rings for the appetizer were a bit chewy and larger rings, but everything else the mussels to the rolls to the the nigiri was great! The food was fresh, the atmosphere was good but lively and quite loud so if you're looking for a quiet dinner, this is not your place. The service just seemed a little lacking and not able to quite keep up, and we also were missing a few appetizer items, but we just let it go.. as I got the impression every time we asked for something they were truly exhausted, and the service therefore just didn't seem as friendly or welcoming. Maybe they were just short staffed this day.. We will definitely be back and try it again as we felt they are one of the up-and-coming sushi restaurants that is top in the area.

Such a fantastic hidden gem! AYCE sushi for ~$27 pp for weekday lunch before 5pm with complimentary mini sake. The portions were perfect to try a great variety and not loaded with rice. We had a great time and the sushi was delicious!

The time it was just my husband and I was so slow. We also sat down as the second table. They had a full staff and it took the longest. The food is good. I rate the roles at a 3, but note. I like simple sushi. So I tried the rolls just to try and see what they taste like. Its good if you like likes of flavor. It removes what people say is the fishy taste. I love the taste of fish. So I typically lean towards nigiri. I will amdit their sashimi salad as a 5/5. I loved it. I thought we could order 1 per round, but thats not the case. Look at the menu and its once per visit. The salmon hand roll is a 1 for me. It was not very crispy and hard to power through. So I dont recommend that, but they do a roll of it. So if you share with friends it might be worth while. The Niger I rate a 3.5/5. There was a lot of rice, but they also give a good size slice of fish. What got me was it didn't have that crisp taste when I ate it. Its hard to explain. The food quality is good. Don't get me wrong. Just the service and my simple taste buds. Its very popular and many locals love it. The lady was very sweet, when we got to speak with her. So don't let my rating and my taste buds hinder you from eating here. So give them a try.

This long-time Reno favorite is especially popular with the younger crowd due to the South Midtown location. Popularity is its main weakness though as it makes parking a headache, (not an area to leave valuables), and there is almost always a wait, often nearing or exceeding an hour during prime weekend dinners. No reservations. Don't be surprised if you have to wait outside or in your car. Once seated, place fewer large orders instead of many small ones since staff are stretched thin. Conversation can be tough with the loud packed room and music. Sports usually on big screens. Even at the sushi bar, it is not the usual experience. You still order on paper. High bar fridges block the view, and with 6 to 8 chefs working fast, conversation is unlikely. You are there to eat, not watch the craft or make a new friend behind the bar. Fish quality is about as good as AYCE gets in Reno, and the rice is less sugary than most. Nigiri often has the best fish-to-rice ratio in town. Good roll selection, including a Salmon Skin Handroll. Like many spots, some rolls are heavy on eel sauce or mayo, making the fish secondary unless you skip sauce or choose simpler options. The baked mussel appetizer was drenched in sweet sauce and tasted like candy. Surprised there was no mayo on those too. Price is a couple dollars above average local AYCE but worth it if you tolerate the wait, still cheaper than casinos. Monday through Thursday, sake is included. Arguably the best spot in Reno right now, though on a busy night I might pick one of the close seconds if I want to eat quickly. NOTE: It appeared they charged a higher tip than I left, so check your credit card charge a few days later

Upon being seated, we were told to fill out the all-you-can-eat order form as many times as we wanted, which sounded great. I personally don't eat sushi, but I appreciated that they offered protein options like chicken and beef. I ordered a Bento box--simple enough. That's where things started to go downhill. My meal didn't arrive for over 30 minutes, and when it finally did, it was cold. The chicken tasted like pressed meat and was extremely chewy--definitely not what you'd expect from a basic entrée. I wasn't planning to complain, but it became clear the issue wasn't just my order. The other four people in my group were barely being served at all. Meanwhile, tables that were seated after us were receiving multiple rounds of food while we continued waiting. We asked several servers for updates, and each time we were told they'd check on it--only for them to disappear for 10-15 minutes with no follow-up. After spending over two hours there, many of us left hungry and frustrated. I understand places like this may rely on high turnover or tourist traffic, but customer service and basic food quality should still matter. If you're taking the time to read reviews before choosing where to eat, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. And just to top it off--the ice cream was so frozen solid in its pre-staged cup that the spoon couldn't even break through it.

They did an amazing job with the interiors and it has a high-end dining vibe. However, there are several things in the customer service department that needs improvement. First, it's impossible to get a table without a reservation, unless you're willing to wait 20+ minutes. One reason is the chaotic triage process at the front. There isn't enough dedicated space for the waiting area, and as soon as there is more than 1 group, the system implodes. This means that, even if you walk in with a reservation, you get lost in the crowd until the host can effectively sort out who's who. Second, while your order might come out at a reasonable speed, it's impossible to get anything else. The servers are always busy, and every time we have asked for a refill, another roll, a box, etc, we eventually just give up and hope that we aren't charged for something we didn't get. I still find myself coming back since this is the only sushi restaurant that seems to have high quality food and well-balanced flavors. Most places seem to prioritize quantity over quality now. Just be prepared for some glitches in customer service, adjust your expectations, and you can still walk away having eaten a great meal.
