Mussels
John H.

The sushi was tasty, the service was amicable and the ambiance although a bit drab for my taste was alright. We had some all you can eat of course since this is Reno! I will say I am not a person who enjoys tuna in any case the texture is always weird to me regardless of its spicy or not I can deal with the whole piece of tuna but not when it's chopped. With that disclaimer out of the way the sushi was delicious different from other spots for sure, and even tho I believe this sushi place has been around for a while it does not feel that they have really found what sushi they wish to be defined by... other than that I did appreciate that the mussels were not in their shells when served a different take on the usual appetizers. All in all a good experience would come back but not necessarily my first choice.

The sushi was fresh and the service friendly. All you can eat sushi was slow to get to table at first, but then came quick. The ala cart ca. roll was not as fresh...the waitress said there are different chefs.

Smoked Salmon, Tamago Nigiri, Crab stick

Service was mediocre; waitress unfriendly and not welcoming. Rolled her eyes a couple of times as I seen her do it to several paying customers. Sushi quality was on the lower end. Crab sticks tasted old and dried out. Their sushi had more rice compared to others. Limited appetizers to choose from for AYCE. Small scoop of ice cream for dessert.0

Awesome sushi in northwest Reno, that was a bit further out of my normal south Reno bubble. I'm so glad that friends wanted to meet up here because it was delicious!! The service was top notch and the sushi was amazing! I would definitely recommend this place as a solid sushi experience and will absolutely be back!

A solid AYCE choice for NW Reno Right next to squeeze in. Great staff, a little dark inside Might be good for date night! Yum

Rice less sushi with cucumber wrap--yum yum!

I had my meal delivered by grub hub, so I can't speak on ambience, but the to go containers were sturdy styrofoam, and chopsticks, napkins, and soy sauce provided. The most incredible dish on the menu, the "rice less sushi"!! I eat mostly keto, so this was music to my ears. It was heaven with a cucumber wrapper! Thank you sushi 7 for a yummy rice free dinner.

Philly and macho long rolls

Decided to hit up one of our favorite and most consistent all you can eat sushi spots in Reno. The salmon here is quality, buttery soft. I typically start with some salmon nigiri. The rolls are well balanced, i went with the philly and macho. The employees are great and the restaurant is always clean. Other items i recommend.. LuLu long roll, Wayne's hand roll, calamari rings, mussels

Terrible dining experience. Hair in food, water splashed all over freshly delivered food, rude owner, okay food. Won't be going there again.

We sat at the bar, and it was really enjoyable chatting with the staff there. The atmosphere is a bit noisy, but that's because it's always busy. One thing to keep in mind the wait can be long. However, if you don't mind sitting at the bar and there's space available, take it! Instead of waiting 45 minutes, you might get seated right away. Without a doubt, this has become one of my favorite spots for sushi. Thank you!

The time it was just my husband and I was so slow. We also sat down as the second table. They had a full staff and it took the longest. The food is good. I rate the roles at a 3, but note. I like simple sushi. So I tried the rolls just to try and see what they taste like. Its good if you like likes of flavor. It removes what people say is the fishy taste. I love the taste of fish. So I typically lean towards nigiri. I will amdit their sashimi salad as a 5/5. I loved it. I thought we could order 1 per round, but thats not the case. Look at the menu and its once per visit. The salmon hand roll is a 1 for me. It was not very crispy and hard to power through. So I dont recommend that, but they do a roll of it. So if you share with friends it might be worth while. The Niger I rate a 3.5/5. There was a lot of rice, but they also give a good size slice of fish. What got me was it didn't have that crisp taste when I ate it. Its hard to explain. The food quality is good. Don't get me wrong. Just the service and my simple taste buds. Its very popular and many locals love it. The lady was very sweet, when we got to speak with her. So don't let my rating and my taste buds hinder you from eating here. So give them a try.

As far as AYCE goes, the sushi is 5 stars, (not the same as 5 stars at a high-end sushi spot.)…read moreOverall experience is closer to a four. This long-time Reno favorite is especially popular with the younger crowd due to the South Midtown location. Popularity is its main weakness though as it makes parking a headache, (not an area to leave valuables), and there is almost always a wait, often nearing or exceeding an hour during prime weekend dinners. No reservations. Don't be surprised if you have to wait outside or in your car. Once seated, place fewer large orders instead of many small ones since staff are stretched thin. Conversation can be tough with the loud packed room and music. Sports usually on big screens. Even at the sushi bar, it is not the usual experience. You still order on paper. High bar fridges block the view, and with 6 to 8 chefs working fast, conversation is unlikely. You are there to eat, not watch the craft or make a new friend behind the bar. Fish quality is about as good as AYCE gets in Reno, and the rice is less sugary than most. Nigiri often has the best fish-to-rice ratio in town. Good roll selection, including a Salmon Skin Handroll. Like many spots, some rolls are heavy on eel sauce or mayo, making the fish secondary unless you skip sauce or choose simpler options. The baked mussel appetizer was drenched in sweet sauce and tasted like candy. Surprised there was no mayo on those too. Price is a couple dollars above average local AYCE but worth it if you tolerate the wait, still cheaper than casinos. Monday through Thursday, sake is included. Arguably the best spot in Reno right now, though on a busy night I might pick one of the close seconds if I want to eat quickly. NOTE: It appeared they charged a higher tip than I left, so check your credit card charge a few days later

Upon being seated, we were told to fill out the all-you-can-eat order form as many times as we wanted, which sounded great. I personally don't eat sushi, but I appreciated that they offered protein options like chicken and beef. I ordered a Bento box--simple enough. That's where things started to go downhill. My meal didn't arrive for over 30 minutes, and when it finally did, it was cold. The chicken tasted like pressed meat and was extremely chewy--definitely not what you'd expect from a basic entrée. I wasn't planning to complain, but it became clear the issue wasn't just my order. The other four people in my group were barely being served at all. Meanwhile, tables that were seated after us were receiving multiple rounds of food while we continued waiting. We asked several servers for updates, and each time we were told they'd check on it--only for them to disappear for 10-15 minutes with no follow-up. After spending over two hours there, many of us left hungry and frustrated. I understand places like this may rely on high turnover or tourist traffic, but customer service and basic food quality should still matter. If you're taking the time to read reviews before choosing where to eat, I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere. And just to top it off--the ice cream was so frozen solid in its pre-staged cup that the spoon couldn't even break through it.

We had a late lunch so decided to just go for ala carte but wished we had done their all you can eat. We started with the calamari appetizer, cucumber salad and two orders of their potstickers. Their potstickers were the star of the show and I would go back here just to order these. Some of the best in town in my opinion! They were doughy and flavorful, still tender not too crispy and just the right size with a great potsticker slightly spicy sauce. We then ordered the Snow mountain roll, the caterpillar and rainbow. We loved the size of the rolls, not too much rice, flavorful, fresh and good. Before our order came out we were offered a sample of a new dumpling pork bun that was so good we wished we could order it; but the owner informed us it would be coming to a store next door soon - so stay tuned for a new O'A dumpling dim sum shop to open soon in the same shopping center. The service was attentive and charming and the restaurant seems very authentic - we can't wait to go back and try all you can eat and get their punch card.

All the raw seafood there was good. - Hiro Sashimi: I did not like fish eggs so I was able to tell the waiter what I did not want. After that, there is a chef's choice of what they will put. It was very pretty and I got full after half through all the seafood. I was not a fan of octopus or scallop. Otherwise, the fish was fresh. - Miso soup: I added this as a side and it was good. It is unlimited which is a plus. I would come back to try other things on the menu. The service was quick. They were busy, but there were folding walls to separate yourself from the other customers. They did an amazing job with the interiors and it has a high-end dining vibe. However, there are several things in the customer service department that needs improvement. First, it's impossible to get a table without a reservation, unless you're willing to wait 20+ minutes. One reason is the chaotic triage process at the front. There isn't enough dedicated space for the waiting area, and as soon as there is more than 1 group, the system implodes. This means that, even if you walk in with a reservation, you get lost in the crowd until the host can effectively sort out who's who. Second, while your order might come out at a reasonable speed, it's impossible to get anything else. The servers are always busy, and every time we have asked for a refill, another roll, a box, etc, we eventually just give up and hope that we aren't charged for something we didn't get. I still find myself coming back since this is the only sushi restaurant that seems to have high quality food and well-balanced flavors. Most places seem to prioritize quantity over quality now. Just be prepared for some glitches in customer service, adjust your expectations, and you can still walk away having eaten a great meal.

I think what set this place apart from other spots was the well portioned rolls, nigiri, and the variation of fillings inside the rolls. I feel some places go heavy and hard on the fried shrimp but Umi had a wonderful mix of fish and shrimp and other roll fillings. My favorite hands down was the Vegas roll with the savory tuna, followed by the crown shrimp roll with a mayo topping the really brought out the umami flavor. While this spot is a little out of the way for us I definitely plan on revisiting soon and recommend this as a go to spot for both locals and those who are traveling from outside the area.

While it was nice having things come out at different times, we did have a pause and forgot about some rolls we ordered and were stuffed by the end. Next time, I think we would order rolls in 1 roll increments versus 2 of the same flavor for 4 people.
