We came here, by request of our son for his birthday. Although I didn't enjoy the quality of the food or service, I kept it internally during the meal so as not to put a damper on our celebration. Upon comparing notes with my wife on our way home, the following was the general takeaways: Honestly this is probably some of the worst sushi I've ever had in my life. Coupled with rude, careless service. The servers "handle the room" as a team but act inconvenienced by simple "can I get more water please?" or "we never got our miso soup we ordered 30 minutes ago; can you check on that?" or "Do you suppose I can get a little more wasabi?" Forgets. I ask again. Condescending eye roll ensues. Etc. What lures you in: The online menu and photos look amazing. The food in-person does not closely resemble what's represented online. The lighting in the room may be part of the problem, but what looked bright, colorful, fresh & tasty both on Yelp and on their online menu, was not in person, nor the consumption, anything more than marginal. The sushi rice was missing the sugar and vinegar taste, and each roll was dry with little to no sauce. The food did not scream fresh, sushi-grade seafood and the typical accompanying flavors. It was on par with day old grocery store or airport kiosk sushi. Perhaps it was an off-night for them; perhaps it's gone downhill from factors we won't ever know. Our son and girlfriend have eaten here before and commented on how degraded their experience and food was comparatively. Caution if ordering one of the rolls with lemon slices inside: they are not delicate razor thin slices of lemon. They are closer to what you'd cram into a Corona at a bar. Waaaayyyyy overpowering large wedges of lemon rind. That's literally all you could taste. All in all, I would not recommend nor would I currently consider giving this spot a second shot. I really, really wanted to like this place. I LOVE sushi. I don't need 5-star sushi, but I do need at least decent quality fish. This spot has gone from Sushi Lovers (the BEST), to Biggest Little Sushi (mediocre), and now to Itsavy. Small, cozy spot. The decor is now... absent. No problem. The guys behind the sushi bar were very nice and service was good. Unfortunately, the saba/mackerel I recieved was inedible. A piece of sake/salmon I received had a crunchy edge. Is this the best sushi in Reno? Maybe. I heard they had a new sushi chef on the team and wanted to check it out. Wow! Glad I did. Tried several of the rolls including the Netflix and Chill and the Itzavy roll. All really great and fresh. It's a small place but really great staff and amazing sushi. We all know there are a lot of sushi choices in Reno so I like to try new ones periodically. Really glad I gave this one a try. Probably my new favorite. Food was subpar. For being a sushi place with a beautiful menu, it was extremely disappointing. It is a local spot with limited parking. The place is small and simple. The food took awhile to get to our table. The waiter was forgetting our drinks all the time. As in, we'd ask and after 5 minutes we would ask someone else again. Yes he would apologize each time but it happened often with our table of 4. They put out rolls first and then nigiri. The rolls were normal sized and packed with a lot of rice. After ordering via delivery apps a few times I finally got my timing right and was able to dine in a bit ago. We sat at the bar a bit before the dinner rush. The chefs were responsive to requests and got the rolls and pieces made promptly and accurately. Trying a few rolls I had not previously ordered online was nice. The restroom was clean, which is always a nice sign in a restaurant. Overall, nice to have them close and hope I can drop in more often to enjoy! Don't walk...Run to this sushi spot ! I stumbled by this sushi restaurant as I was driving around choosing a lunch spot, I noticed the location had a new name from biggest little sushi, so I figured... let's give it a try! As soon as I walked in, I was immediately greeted by the sushi chefs and chose a chair at the bar. Thankfully it wasnt very busy inside but they were poppin in takeout orders. I always start with nigiri to see how fresh the fish is and also to see how much rice they are going to pack in it...the hamachi was incredibly fresh, buttery with just the right amount of rice. I tried a few hand rolls and long rolls, they were again super fresh and wonderful flavors. My favorite was called the Netflix and chill (one of their new rolls) it has chili oil on it and it was such a good kick of spice with crispies and hamachi! The server was very attentive and checked in consistently as I was there, my sushi chef was also very attentive and quick! My partner and I sat at the bar and the chef were great in making recommendations and making fire sushi. My first taste of high quality sushi was at Iron Chef Morimoto's flagship restaurant in Philadelphia in the late 90s and I dove full steam ahead into the Reno world of sushi after my return from that trip. Since then, I've become a bit of a sushi "snob". I've been to almost every sushi joint around the area and always make it a point to try the newest while still supporting my go-to, as well as the other places that I enjoy visiting when my favorite local sushi chef is unavailable at my go-to. I really like this place! Located just outside of downtown in the location of the former Biggest Little Sushi Bar, the owners have made it their own since taking over. Not much has changed in décor, but plenty has changed in the food. The sushi chefs, Chris and Miguel, are very talented and efficient...as well as extremely courteous...they also are very open to suggestions, as I have a diverse palate for sushi that a lot of places don't appease. I know...I know...everyone has a diverse palate for sushi and we all enjoy it in our own way...different appetizers, rolls, nigiri, etc...that's the beauty of it. Their menu is very diverse...lots of offerings that you won't see anywhere else...that's what led me to give them 5 stars, even though they're not my go-to...but, they now rank right near the top! Some of their standouts for me? Jalapeno Poppers It's a different approach than the usual "stuffed jalapeno"...very tasty. Baked Mussels As good as it gets in the area. Roger long roll The flavor combination POPS! Lemon Drop long roll The lemon flavor jumps out at you, yet complements the rest of the flavors perfectly. Spider long roll My benchmark roll...if a place can do a good Spider Roll, then usually everything else is great. This one is exemplary! As I said, they're open to suggestions... A few items that they customized for me: Hamachi Kama First time I went in, I had it fried, which was their only option on the menu...dry, bland, not to my liking. The 2nd time though? I asked them if they would bake it...they did...without hesitation...and man, what a change! Drop dead delicious, moist, flaky...the dipping sauce is really good. Quail Egg Shooters Had them make them extra spicy and they did it with a deft hand and lots of flavor. Scallop Nigiri I asked them to give them a quick flash fry...which I love because it caramelizes the exterior while still leaving the interior moist and succulent. I hate the standard "seared" preparations everywhere else...the smell of the butane torch when they're prepared that way kills the delicate taste of scallops. Lots of other compliments I could heap on them, but I've already made this review long winded enough...LOL... As always, I suggest that you drop by to see what YOU think... read more

I was really in the mood to try a new sushi place and Itzavy seemed promising. We did not get all you can eat, just a few items, but really not impressed. The presentation of the rolls was very nice, which is probably one of the main reasons that made me choose to come here in the first place, but nothing tasted fresh and everything was just slightly room temperature instead of cold which is a no go for me. I went here specifically craving a quail egg shooter and it was not great. The ambiance is ok, very clean but kinda dull inside. As far as Reno sushi goes, Itzavy is right on par with 98% of the other spots, ok quality all you can eat sushi. Just don't come looking in Reno for great sushi, we have our own little all you can eat niche and most places here stand on that. We came in about 30 minutes before close for a quick bite and did not opt for all you can eat. Service was quite good, everything came fast, but the sushi was just not awesome. First off everything came slightly warm, nothing I can't stand more than sushi that isn't cold enough like it should be. We didn't order a lot as we just wanted a snack before heading home for the night, but the real letdown was the imitation crab mix that was on everything we ordered, it was just a bit funky, warm, and overly wet. The quail egg shooters, absolutely need some work, it tasted like a quail egg, some Tobiko, and a shot glass full of nothing but soy sauce. Big miss on these, there is other things that are supposed to go into it to bring the depth. Our favorite thing we had that night was the carpaccio just because the sauce it came sitting in made it more properly cold. read more

I'm pretty disappointed about this place, I've ordered in and ordered takeout and was not satisfied with the sushi. When my husband and I first walked in, we were seated right away which was great. We were going to the UNR football game so, we were in a time crunch. We ordered our appetizers right away and maybe 3 min later orders our rolls. 20 min passed and I realized, other people that came in later than us started getting their food. They finally gave us our rolls but, no appetizers and when I asked for the apps they told us they lost our sheet. After we finished our food, they never offered us another sheet but, asked us if we wanted our dessert and check. Overall, not impressed. read more

Our first time here and it was all around great! The first thing I want to talk about is the incredibly fast and attentive service. Everyone was working hard, did an excellent job, and were so nice. The design was simple but beautiful, although a few of the light fixtures might get in the way for tall people. For a small space I think they do a good job with seating as many people as comfortably as they can. I didn't feel cramped during our visit, but it was very busy. And I can't wait to come back and try more menu items. There was so much to choose from and I loved the variety. The hot items came out to our table still hot enough that we needed time for them to cool down and the sushi was perfectly bite sized and fresh. I'm so excited for our next visit. TLDR: little to no flavor in each roll, bad sushi rice. Impressively bland. Everyone was relatively friendly but could have been more helpful with menu items and such. Our sushi came out before the appetizers, and the Yakiton and Tempura shrimp were SOGGY. The chicken katzu and edamame were good. The sushi was just bad. We tried Diablo, Tsunami, Tundra, Mango Crunch, Lulu, and Sexy. The only one that tasted different than the others was the Sexy, due to the lemon. The sushi rice was missing the sugar and vinegar taste, and each roll was dry with little to no sauce. While not inedible, it just wasn't good. High quality sushi in Reno!! Stopped here for all you can eat lunch ($27/person) with 6 friends after hiking around Tahoe... we killed it. They lost $$$ on us. Rolls were beautiful and fresh. Unagi and sashimi were on point. Meat was high quality. I was surprised for freshness considering being far from the coast.
