Had to take a point away because almost 20 minutes for 2 hand rolls is a bit much. Food was delicious though. Had an unagi hand roll and Toro hand roll. Toro was my fave, but good Toro will always be my favorite. Simple and clean and tasty. Good portion of fish to rice. Would love to try more.

I went to Reno public market and I had to try out their newest sushi place. This was my first time ordering and my favorite was the California roll. It took about thirty minutes to receive my two rolls. They were both good and had quality ingredients but I don't think I've found my favorite yet. The buzzer was helpful to know when I could come and pick up my food. This is a great place to eat with friends.

I was so excited that we got a sushi spot here at the Reno Public Market! Love the menu and the selection they had. We ordered the Biggest Little, Dragon, and Philadelphia roll. Came out to about $43, and we waited over 30 mins for the rolls. There was only one other person in front of me and no one else ordered after me. The person in front ordered 1 roll. So it took them about 40 mins for 2 chefs to make a total of 4 rolls. The flavor was good, the Philadelphia was huge, lots of rice and big chunk of fish. Very hard to chew. It's a newer place so I hope they can overcome their minor obstacles!

This was my first time at The Nori Bar and the food took about a half hour to receive, which is quite long for food court style food. The chef was pretty friendly although the lady cashier was not. Their sushi was descent, but nothing spectacular. Unagi and spicy scallop were better than their salmon, which was diced up instead of a whole slice of fish. They also have fresh oysters here, but I didn't try them.

The hamachi crudo is the best Ive had in Reno. So fresh and a very satisfying portion. The spicy scallops hand roll was delicious too. Very quick service, waited 5 minutes. I will definitely be back.

Spicy scallop and spicy tuna handrolls. Jackpot long roll

One of my foodie coworkers recommended Kauboi Izakaya and I was intrigued. I much prefer izakaya…read morerestaurants to sushi restaurants. I love the tapas style dishes with flavor-packed bites. We came in around 7:00 and the place was packed. The hostess told us that it would be a 20 minute wait, so we stopped in next door to Sierra Nevada Chocolates for gelato. We didn't have the chance to finish our scoops before I got a phone call letting me know our table was ready. I love myself a good cold soba noodle dish and this one did not disappoint. Cold veggies and savory sauce tossed with nutty buckwheat noodles. I could have eaten an entire serving of this, but my bf was in town and we split our dishes. The rice tots were unique. Crispy rice and a sweet slightly spicy dragon sauce. I love tater tots, I love spicy tuna on crispy rice, so I knew the rice tots would be a good pick. The mushroom croquettes were my favorite of the night. The ooey gooey creamy rich filling was so flavorful and the mushrooms added a meatiness, while the panko coated crust was perfectly crisp. It was a texturally pleasing dish. The gyozas were tender little pockets with a flavorful shrimp filling and I'm a sucker for chili crisp. Another great dish. Our server was just okay. I couldn't tell if he was awkward or a pretentious hipster. Dishes came out one at a time, but with good timing. Basically, as soon as we were done another would arrive. Inside was dark, loud and crowded with a 90s playlist. We normally hate crowds and waiting for tables, but we both agreed to come back.

Came back with some friends from Vegas and we ordered the following:…read more Ordered: - Tokyo Fried Chicken Thigh and Spicy Mayo: This is so good! It's perfectly crisp 5/5 - Hamachi and Asian Pear and Aji Amarillo: fish is fresh, pear is good, and the cubed soy sauce all work surprisingly well together 5/5 - Ten layer Pork Tonkatsu and Black garlic: I love the hint of wasabi flavor, but you don't actually feel the spiciness of it. 5/5 - Chicken Skin Skewers: very crispy and thin on the outside and soft on the inside. 5/5 - Chicken Thigh Skewers: the chicken is not dry at all and the green onions helps bring out the flavor more 5/5 - Bone Broth ramen: pork is great, but the noodles, and broth tastes like a wonton soup . The egg yolk tasted different 3/5 - Battleship: the fries are thin and crispy which I love. The cheese balls and meat are good. The curry is good and it should come with a bowl of rice 5/5 - Gyoza: it's more a dumpling, a little too acidic but the meat is very flavorful 4/5 There was no wait this time on a Friday evening. I feel like the music is still too loud, but I enjoy the environment. The staff are always attentive and quick. This was a much better experience, than the first time I came here. However, the prices are still high for the amount of food served.

It's just SO good, and if you prefer AYCE you may not like this place. I lived in Southern California for over a decade and this reminds me so much of the many amazing sushi spots there. My girlfriend was visiting out of town this past weekend and we popped in. I don't remember our servers name but he was friendly, and surprisingly it wasn't crowded for a Sunday afternoon. We shared: Hamachi Jalapeno Carpaccio - 5/5, so SO good. Miso - my girlfriend said she could clearly taste it was fresh and not some boxed junk. Crunchy Shrimp HR - 5/5 Fire Ocean (LONG ROLL) 5/5 I'd high recommend and am thankful we have this place.

Haha I have been eating all-you-can-eat (AYCE) sushi in Reno…read morefor over 10 years now and this is the first place I've been able to actually taste how good the fish actually is. To be clear, this is not an AYCE sushi restaurant, and there's other offerings besides sushi including ramen, salad, steaks, and various teriyaki plates. Apparently the food is hand selected by the owner, and helped prepared by the Japanese wife in the kitchen. From what I understand, the line cooks follow traditional Japanese ways including only being able to make a sushi roll after being a line cook for 5 years. As for the food itself, these are the things I've tried: -Maguro (tuna) sashimi: absolutely delightful -Sake (salmon) nigri: really good -Unagi (Eel) sashimi: my favorite nigri, the unagi was so tender it was falling apart. Best I've ever had. -Kazo sake: the combination of all the textures and flavors made this one of my top choices. Think of eating it like a deviled egg, if you're able to fit the whole thing in your mouth, you can taste all the flavors at once. If not, it's still tasty and you can taste the pieces individually! -Mt Rose roll: the textures and flavors were really good! -Fire Ocean roll: Absolutely delicious, and spicy! -Spicy garlic edamame: I wasn't impressed. No crisp on the garlic. The garlic, sweet chili sauce, and edamame felt like they were all cooked separately and combined on the serving plate. The garlic seemed like it was from a jar, and the sauce from the bottle. -Tempura banana with strawberry mochi: we devoured this, the chocolate sauce made the combination of flavors pleasant. I wish the tempura banana had a bit more going on - more crisp and less batter. -Wasabi: the wasabi actually tastes real and not like horseradish!!! It blends into the soy sauce beautifully and it's creamy. Drinks -Sapporo with the Junmai Ginjo sake: light and crisp, really yummy -Honey Citron tea- delightful Service While our service was generally pleasant, we did end up going at least 20 mins at one point without any word from our server while waiting on food. We didn't mind, and it was nice to not be rushed, but some others may want to feel more taken care of. My only slight complaint is that I didn't keep my chopsticks after dinner for our dessert, but we just ended up sharing the one pair we had. It would have been nice to be reminded to keep my chopsticks or to be offered another pair. Ambiance The space is relatively large and Miyabi expanded years ago to accommodate a larger dining area. The only slightly confusing part - I wish it was more clear which door you enter from. The only indicator is the Open sign on the left hand set of doors. All in all, I really enjoy and appreciate good quality food, and while you are paying the price for it here, it's justified. I'm looking forward to my next visit!

You have to make reservations because they prepare your ingredients with love and care. For night time reservations, it's like a speak easy kind of entrance, because the basement was already close, Sean, one of the owners, will pick you up and lead you to a secret elevator that descend to the basement. They aim for a zero-waste food, so all your orders will not go into waste (I will explain later). Each person has its own pot. For now, since they just opened recently, they have seven induction stoves --- that meant they can only take 7 person at a time. You will choose your protein and size of the pot, they have the smallest one, which they call chubi, then ninja, sho time, king kong and gorilla. I chose beef belly (a must try) and fish balls (this is not just a regular fish balls because it has a roe/fish eggs inside!) -- then they will teach you how to eat in a way you will experience the best shabu shabu experience. If you have left overs, don't worry, you can take it home -- they will prepare it for you so you can just reheat it and eat. (The soup was still so so good the next day!) The sake (rice wine) that they have had different flavors. It was my first time to taste one with flavors. I also tried its unfiltered sake, and oh boy, it brought me back the times when I had a dinner with Japanese consul (one of my perks as a former journalist) and my travel in China. Their cheesecake is also a must try! It was a guiltless cheesecake because it was low carbs and low calories. The owners, Yuki and Sean are very friendly, accommodating, and very mindful of the food -- they don't want the food to go into waste! I love the ambiance -- I had my birthday party there, and felt like we have the restaurant all to ourselves! It was intimate, clean with simple but functional interior. The last we dined in there (which was the third time) they are expanding and adding more inductions to accommodate the demand, 'cause people are coming back and referring this restaurant to friends. Update: My mom and I dined in there (few weeks before I deliver my baby) in April and they expanded their stoves. They can accommodate more than 20,I think, of diners.

We were seated quickly. Now that can be attributed to the fact that we were early for dinner. We opted for a tabled, but there were plenty of seats available at the sushi bar. We only waited for a few minutes before the first wave of fish was delivered. Throughout dinner, we never had to wait long for the sushi to be delivered. The atmosphere was decent. It felt like it was more of a storefront than a traditional restaurant. But, it was a storefront and I don't care about that. I base my rating on freshness, service and cleanliness of the store. One thing that surprised me was the Kani (crab). I ordered it wondering if it would be real crab or imitation. It was real! I was happy and surprised. I ate my fill. Actually, I ate more than my fill. Enjoyed it completely. My sushi coma was justified. Soooo, I'm starting off with four stars. I may add another, after dining here for dinner as opposed…read moreto lunch. That being said, I am an Ohana regular, so I cheated on them today with O'A. So let's get the cons out of the way first. My son and I sat at the bar, and on the big screen against the wall, CNN FAKE NEWS was playing. Personally irritating, and I don't think they should be showing news shows from any side at a restaurant. We were in during lunch hours, and towards the end of our visit we were the last party there. That being said, clearing out our empty plates and getting refills wasn't very expeditious. I sat probably for about 15 minutes with an empty soda cup. I would understand if it was busy and at night. Disappointingly, lunch has its own separate menu, and you can't order dinner rolls for the lunch price, like you can at Ohana, Hinoki and other places I've been to and frequented. Now that, that's out of the way let's get to the rest of the review. I'm guessing the owners, we're super nice. We were greeted right as we walked in the door and chose our seats. Victor was our sushi chef. Great guy, and turns out some great sushi. The next time I go I will be sure to sit with him, but the other two Cooks were nice also. The entire restaurant, especially the bar area was spotless! I can tell they all take pride in what they do. My sin and I ordered probably 65% of the lunch menu. The quail egg shooters, whcih we ordered about a dozen total were SUPER good, and served in a modified Oriental soup "spoon" instead of a shot glass. Sort of awkward to eat, but doable and tasty. My personal favorite (lunch) roll was the "Crazy Dream" roll. SO many different flavor profiles. They had unique takes on some of the nigiri and appetizers, like the 'butterfly' and the tempura Jalapeno opposed to other sushi joints. So all in all, it was good enough for me to go back and give the dinner menu a try.
