Don't forget the Cheesecake (Passion Fruit shown)

Tried this place last night and, oh my, we may have found our new favorite restaurant in Reno. Getting there is part of the experience. You enter the back of an unassuming building and head down a few flights of stairs into "The Basement," which immediately adds to the charm. You choose your protein and the portion size you want, while everything else is included. There are also a few add-ons available if you'd like to customize your meal further. We went with the 4-ounce Prime Beef and the 7-ounce Center Cut Pork Loin. The staff taught us how to properly "swish swish" the meat in the broth and pair it with the vegetables. The flavors were outstanding. What really impressed us was what happened at the end of the meal. Instead of simply clearing the table, they combined the remaining broth, vegetables, noodles, and sauces into a take-home soup. We enjoyed it the next evening, and it was absolutely delicious. We also decided to share the Passion Fruit Cheesecake for dessert, which was the great way to end the meal. The restaurant is run by mom and dad, with their daughters helping out, creating a warm and welcoming family atmosphere. Everyone was incredibly friendly and accommodating. If you plan to visit, reservations are highly recommended since seating is very limited. We would absolutely return and highly recommend this hidden gem.

Tadaima offers a unique dining experience in Reno! You order your protein and it comes with rice, 2 sauces, assorted vegetables, tofu, and udon noodles. They will give you a tutorial of how to enjoy your first bite before you dig in. The sauces are the star of the show and you can really taste the quality of the beef! After you are finished, they create a to go soup out of your leftovers. Cheesecake is delicious, not too sweet!

This is a newer Japanese hot pot restaurant to the 775. Tadaima Shabu Shabu is located in the former historical Post office building's basement in downtown Reno. I took the hubbs out to celebrate his Father's day and decided to make a reservation here before our show. Thank you to one of my out of town besties that messaged me about this restaurant; I found it sooner. :) Their seating is limited and it's a reservation only, so do call ahead to ensure they have a spot for you. We were welcomed and seated right away. I was pleasantly surprised to sit and see my name on a placard. This little detail made a memorable meal that much more special. I loved the vibe and that the smaller counter facing in made it more intimate. The party next to us was finishing up, so we felt like we had the place to ourselves although the larger bar facing out was full behind us. I'm horrible that I didn't ask for the two young ladies names that took care of us. They were both fantastic and attentive yet let us explore and just be. We both ordered from their Prime beef platter I did the 7oz. and the hubby ordered the 20 oz. and we both added two eggs. Next time, I'll try the wagyu or the beef belly. I just would have felt guilty after my hot Pilates class to indulge in Wagyu and dessert. We mixed and experimented with their ponzu and sesame sauces; they were both delicious and I loved being able to adjust the heat level. My favorite part was watching the making of my soup with my leftover steak, veggies and sauces. The owner's daughter was chatting with us and shared with us their journey there. She told us, "Tadaima" in Japanese translates to you're home. I felt this and their mission was delivered in every detail here. We ended our meal with a heavenly slice of their guava drizzled passionfruit Japanese "dreamy cheesecake". Our server sold me on the light, 10 grams of protein and no additional sugar. It was just as she described. We loved our interactive meal and that this beautiful restaurant. I was shocked to find out it was a year old. It was the hubby's first interactive hot pot experience. That's my fault that I hadn't taken him sooner. In my 20's hot pot was one of the things my friends and I would drive to Ca for the day. I loved everything about this meal especially my soup that I had as my post-workout meal today. It was more flavor packed then when I first tried it. If you're looking for a cool dining experience and are in the mood for hot pot with a mom and pop's kitchen feeling; this is your spot. I look forward to coming back in the very near future. Thank you for a lovely meal and I can't wait to bring our kids so they can love it here too.

Tips: Make reservations ahead, you might be able to get a reservation day of but there is limited seating and go to the east side of the Basement next to the dock and call after 6pm where they'll come up and unlock the door for you- it's wheelchair accessible. Great selection of drinks including sake, wine and I had the unfiltered pilsner. They had my name on a place card which was a really nice touch. We had the choice meat (lean) 10 oz, Prime beef ninja 7oz (my favorite) and decided to add on Pork Belly and Chicken meat balls for dinner. I really enjoyed the meatballs they had a ginger garlic taste super good. It came with plenty of veggies and noodles but you can order more (this was a lot). They had tons of extra add ons so your not limited on choices. They had two sauces a peanut (meats) plus casin drops to add some spice and ponzu sauce (veggies) so make sure you talk to them ahead if you have allergies like wheat, gluten, soy etc. great service and everything was fresh. To finish off I had the peach and ginger cheesecake, it was so good! Can't wait to be back, perfect for date night, friends and family, it was fun and interactive and overall great atmosphere.

My wife and I found a Gem in Reno today below the restored Old P.O. Building in Reno NV. Not only was the restaurant itself a gem with absolutely delicious food but the owners are Gems themselves. My wife and I sat after our delicious meal and had a great conversation with the owner Yumi. Such a beautiful soul she is. This was an amazing day!! Thank you, Yumi!! Russ and Audrey Grijalva

Another amazing evening with Yumi and Sean. I can't get over how amazing the taste of the food is! Again only one other couple besides the four of us so a nice quiet evening. We will be back soon as we tried new meats and love them.

Absolutely amazing! It was such good food and a great experience. Even though I "made" everything, their ingredients are fresh and super tasty. The staff and owner were so sweet and went out of their way to make sure our experience was unforgettable. Ambiance is cozy and can be intimate if desired. We enjoyed speaking with those around us. Lastly, don't sleep on their dessert!

What a delicious surprise! We've had plenty of Japanese hotpots domestically and in Japan but none compare to this place! Do yourself a favor and stop here, will not disappoint!

One of the best dining experiences in Reno. Extremely fresh meat and a very high-quality vegetables. Very reasonable pricing based on the amount of food you get. A fairly large beer, wine, and sake selection. Their official hours are noon to 6 PM but they say they do take reservations beyond 6 PM for dinner. Reservations are required as far as I know especially after 6 PM as they need to let you into the building.

Omg what a hidden gem So glad my boyfriend and I found this place! The family is beyond sweet and caring, and you can tell they love what they do. The passion is pouring out of this place and we will definitely be back!

So fun & so delicious! Our party of 5 enjoyed every minute & every bite at Tadaima. The 1st time trying Shaba Shaba for all of us. We're all fans now! Located in the basement of the old post office (a beautiful building) adds to the unique experience. Tadaima is family owned & operated. Daughter Kenzie was our awesome guide through the process. Give yourself plenty of time to enjoy everything. We were there for over wonderful 90 minutes before catching a show at Bruka theatre. Enjoy a delicious & fun meal at Tadaima.

Wow.... first if all the atmosphere is fire.... every person in this establishment is beyond amazing... Micaiah was the star of the evening... offering us first timers some tips and tricks! Are you in a gluten free or on a whole foods diet? Guess what? They cater to you! Be smart and make a reservation, when you call to make one, be sure to add your food preference of allergy the mochi cheesecake is a 10/10. You also get a meal for tomorrow we will be back. Thank you Micaiah and family for everything.

Amazing food, a little twist on traditional hot pot, service was off the hook good. They walk you through your first bite and always ensure you're not confused. Great place to go for date night or any special occasion. Can't wait to come back for another meal.

The Wok is one of those places, and Sichuan/Chongqing food is one of those things that I'm jealous of people who get to experience it for the first time. Here's how to have an epic time at The Wok: Step 1. Get 4 to 8 people total that aren't afraid to try something a little different and maybe slightly spicy (seriously though it's not actually that spicy). If you need help with this step message me, I'd share a meal with some random people if it's at The Wok. Step 2. Flip to the back page of the menu, and order a few things that sound good to the group. Don't waste your time with the American Chinese menu (even though what I've had off of that menu is actually really good too). Make sure to get a decent mix of stuff like appetizers, veggies, noodle, soup, and meat dishes. Also don't be afraid to order multiple times. This gives you more time with the menu, and you can judge what sounds good in the moment. Step 3. Share the food family style with everyone until you are all full. I think at this point I've eaten everything on the Sichuan menu, and can say that if it sounds good to you, it is! Some of my favorite dishes are: Wontons in Chili oil, Bone in chicken wings, Spicy boiled fish fillet, Beef noodle soup, Green beans, Salt and Pepper tofu, Dan dan noodles, and Mapo Tofu. Today we got the following: Garlic Pork & Rice - My dish. Deep fried pork with garlic, what is there NOT to like?!?! I did not expect it to be bite size pieces, which made it easy to eat. The sauce was on the side, which was not really needed. My rice might have been slightly undercooked...? Very firm/hard, or was it the last of the pot? Still good, but I would preferred it softer. Wonton Noodle Soup - A classic dish, another dish that is very hard to do wrong. Both dishes were perfect quantities for us, both light eaters. No left overs. Of the two, the Thai Boat Noodles was the standout it woudl be something I'd order again. The Garlic Pork dish including the rice, though, was a letdown. It tasted okay, nothing memorable. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. Unfortunately, the Dry Fried Beef Chow Fun lacked that signature smoky flavor, and the texture was closer to lo fun than traditional chow fun. The Gai Lan with Beef also lacked wok hei. The outer layer of the gai lan stems had been peeled away, so the stems lost the crisp texture that makes gai lan so enjoyable. The Vermicelli with Grilled Chicken was overly tender and quite salty.
