One of the best spots in town! Seating is limited, so make reservations way ahead of time. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable. Great wine and beer list. Food was all incredible, in addition to what's pictured, we had the five spice pork, pork gyoza, general chicken, and duck rice noodles. Everything hit the mark. They also have chef specials, one was a whole branzino- definitely will be back to try that. For Reno, the prices were pretty good. For 7 of us with drinks, it was about $50 a person before gratuity.
We brought our friends who were visiting from out of town, and oh we had an extraordinary dinner. We unknowingly ordered every protein for our collection of amazing entree dishes: crab fried rice, roasted duck with lotus buns, honey glazed shrimp, pork and cabbage wontons, clay pot Szechuan eggplant with ground pork, beef and broccoli, and lastly the very special chicken with asparagus and mushroom. Everything was beyond outstanding tonight! Every bite delicious. Our friends were so impressed, that they would travel back to go to Kwok's again. It's always a pleasure to bring friends here who have never been because they always end up loving Kwok's as much as we do. Service from the whole staff including Chef, Danny and Wendy was wonderful. We love them all. As always, the place was filled with happy diners. It was a great dinner outing! Important to note that reservations are required.
I Think I Need to Move Here Just So I Can Eat at This Restaurant! Kwok's Bistro was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. Every single dish was outstanding. The potstickers were absolutely unbelievable, the General Chicken was delicious, the crispy noodles were addictive, the fried rice was perfectly prepared, the egg rolls were fresh and crunchy, and the Mongolian beef was tender and packed with flavor. Danny's wine recommendation was fantastic and paired perfectly with our meal. Our waitress, Winnie, was simply amazing--friendly, attentive, and she made us feel so welcome from start to finish. If you're anywhere near Reno, Kwok's Bistro is a must-visit. The food, the service, and the entire experience were exceptional. I honestly think I need to move here just so I can keep coming back!
What a hidden gem! This was the best Chinese food I've ever had! A small bistro in the downtown area and it's only known by the locals and visiting stars. It's small and only available by reservation because it's so popular. It's as if the Chef decided that he would recreate every Chinese favorite using only the best ingredients. The result is spectacular! We started with pot stickers. They were huge and the pork melted in your mouth. It came with a spicy vinegar sauce. Then we had the honey prawns. Crispy perfectly bouncy with a sweet sauce. Incredible! Also we had the Mongolian Beef. This was a ribeye steak in a delicious savory sauce that was so fresh. Every detail had been well thought out. Nothing was left to chance. This place was fabulous! Best food in town. Not to be missed!
After 3 visits... still 5 Stars! What a treat! This cozy restaurant seats about 40 guests and is booked most days, so I highly recommend making a reservation. They're open Tuesday-Sunday from 4-8pm. The menu is robust, and every dish is packed with flavor. My family has owned Chinese restaurants, so I know good Chinese food--and this place absolutely delivers. We visited the day after Christmas with a party of 12 and were lucky enough to try nearly everything on the menu. There honestly wasn't a single dish I wouldn't order again. Standouts for me included the Salt & Pepper Tofu (perfectly light and crispy), Pork Belly Sliders, Spicy Pork Tenderloin, Szechuan Lamb, Honey-Glazed Prawns, House Fried Rice, and Singapore Noodles. The service was exceptional--everyone was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely happy to be there, which really added to the experience. And did I mention they've won a James Beard Award? Well deserved. Highly recommend.
I found Kwoks to be a small cozy space and a hidden gem. in downtown Reno. I was craving Chinese food and luckily they had an opening at 5:30pm for dine in. It's reservations only but they have take out options and you might be able to snag a spot early (right when they open at 4pm or near closing). I got seated quickly, service was great and didn't feel rushed and server answered questions about the items (my first time). I ordered some sake to go with my food and the pork belly sliders as an appetizer. I had their Mongolian Beef (super tender), chow mein, fried rice and general chicken. Perfect for a date night, night with gal pals/friends or just because. Prices were reasonable considering the plates are shareable for 3 people or in my case 1 (with plenty of leftovers the next day). Only suggestion is I wish they had an online reservation system! Will be back again
My husband and I came here to celebrate his birthday and had a wonderful experience like always. Our waitress gave us a blend of two different sakes that she thought we might like!! we always get potstickers to start and ended with three great entrées. This is one of our favorite Chinese places in Reno and it never disappoints.
Kwok's Bistro appears to be a very popular Chinese restaurant in Reno I tried to have dinner there during my stay as a walk-in and was told there was no room at the inn for me that night. I then called and made a reservation for the next evening and got one shortly before their closing time. When I arrived and was promptly seated, the inside of the restaurant was full and the outdoor patio in front looked that way too. Business is good! I ordered the pork belly sliders appetizer for $15 and then the beef and vegetables entree for another $24. The sliders arrived about 10 minutes later. 2 were on the plate and the lotus bun wasn't crispy but firmly dense in texture with delicious braised pork inside. Very nice! The entree arrived a little later and had stir-fried sliced beef bathed in oyster sauce and with veggies like broccoli, onions, scallions, celery and red and green bell peppers for some color. It was a generous serving of food and delicious. The beef was tender and flavorful and I am so glad I ordered it. When the inside is full it can get noisy in this small restaurant that seats about 30 people. My table service from Winnie was warm and friendly. Also, other employees checked on me too. Customer service is important here. Come eat here but make a reservation before you do.

Went with a group of 6 for a business dinner. This was my first time being able to enjoy Kwok's dining experience. We all ordered an entree and shared. Appetizers: chicken wings and shu-mai-both phenomenal. Entrees: Chicken w fresh shiitake mushroom Generals chicken Beef and broccoli Ginger noodles with shrimp Stir fried Eggplant Honey shrimp Stir fried asparagus. Combination fried rice The service is phenomenal. It's a small restaurant and is by reservation only. While the Chinese food scene in Reno is greatly lacking, taking that into consideration, this is the best Chinese food I've had since moving here 3.5 years ago. All of the above food we ordered was amazing. I have zero complaints from this establishment. Grab your girl and take her to Kwok's! You won't regret it!!
The restaurant is cute and small and food is made quick. The service because it's so small is nice and they have dinner specials of the day we got the clams. Taste like real Chinese. We didn't have a reservation. Make a reservation in advance. The waiting area is outside and it gets cold and rainy in Reno. I really like the menu and the place was affordable and good as well as takes card. This place is near downtown and was on top Chinese restaurants in USA and is family owned you can tell. I loved the crispy noodles
Came in on a Friday at 4:00 PM. I called about 20 minutes before they opened to see if they had any spots open since it is reservation only. They also offer takeout if you don't have reservations. The space is very small, with about 9 indoor tables and a couple covered ones outside, which makes for a cozy atmosphere, though it can get a little noisy as you can hear other diners' conversations pretty easily. The service was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. Our water glasses were never empty. We started with the special of the day, Pacific Oysters, which were absolutely the highlight of the meal. Most oysters in the Reno area are straight up disgusting but these were the best I've had here. The Five Spice Chicken Wings were also excellent. They were super crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor. Though they came out piping hot, so be ready to wait a minute before digging in. The Five Spice Pork was very tasty and flavorful. Contrary to the name though it wasn't spicy at all. The Honey Glazed Prawns were good but something was off about the flavor that's difficult to describe. Perhaps it was the mayo or the lack of breading. Overall it's a great restaurant if you're looking for an Asian meal with a gourmet touch. The space is small, so it can feel a little tight, but that's also part of what makes it feel special.
National Recognition of Kwok's Bistro Kwok's has been my favorite Chinese restaurant in this area since my first visit in 2019. There has to be a lot of truth to my previous reviews because I am one voice of many that believe the same. A quote from the Edible Reno Tahoe Magazine/Periodical: 'Kwok's Bistro was ranked Number 12 by Food and Wine in a 2024 list of Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in America." If you have not been to Kwok's, make a reservation. Limited tables, great cuisine. My kind of place.
From start to finish, it was an outstanding epicurean delight. Our group of five fierce women completely and absolutely enjoyed every moment and every bite of the beautifully presented dishes. The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. My favorite three were the ahi tuna, the black cod and the brilliant asian/french mash up of red Bean Creme Brulee. I also need to mention, I loved the lamb tenderloin. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The space is very small, but even with and almost full house, it didn't feel cramped. I try to never miss a Chinese New Year or Fall Harvest Moon dinner here. They never disappoint. Both require a reservation made at least a month in advance, they are always a sell out. To start, you can't go wrong with the enthusiastic welcome we always receive. Then quickly seated and wine poured. The 2026 CNY menu was fabulous, with some great surprises. The ahi tartare portion anywhere else would have been a shareable appetizer. But each person was served a large portion of delicious fresh ahi. Mmmm this course and a glass of wine could be dinner alone any other evening. The soft creamy rich egg custard was hidden under a thick seafood gravy. I really enjoyed this unique dish. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. The dinner wrapped up with a crème brûlée that only Kwok's could pull off - red bean. Creamy smooth. Not overwhelming. The perfect burnt sugar layer on top. The regular menu is just as delicious. Small inside seating area, so recommend always make a reservation. In the summer there's a fabulous patio area out front. Limited street parking. read more
Skeptical of a Chinese place being amazing in Reno especially since we're visiting from the Bay Area... but it legitimately has decent food! Surprisingly they require reservations so make sure to call in ahead before coming as there is not a lot of seating. The waiters are fairly nice and come check every so often and make recommendations. We liked the chicken wings and the honey walnut shrimp... even though there were no walnuts lol. But good for us to avoid nut allergies. read more

We turned up around 4.15pm on a Friday and did not have a reservation. The host still was able to accommodate us. Had we read the comments from other reviewers, we would've made a reservation in advance. The food and service was amazing and definitely worth it. We had the crab rangoons, beef and vegetables, mapo tofu and salted fish chicken fried rice. Each dish had its own unique flavor and the food was definitely worth it. The restaurant is more of an intimate setting with seating for a few parties and parking is in the alley right next to the restaurant. I'd highly recommend to check out the menu and make a reservation to make sure you get a chance to try their amazing menu! read more
This is one the highest rated Asian restaurants in Reno and I gotta say I was underwhelmed. The calamari wasn't properly flash fried and was the most chewy calamari I have ever eaten . The rice was cold when I got home which was a bummer . The general chicken however was absolutely AMAZING !! Yaaa I went 1 for 3 . Maybe they were a little off and also for the record I did order takeout with 30 min left before closing read more

Well I finally had the opportunity to dine at Kwoks Bistro during Chinese New Year of the Fire Horse! What fun, although I had an inkling that it would be. Went with a group and we had fun dissecting the menu prior to any dishes arriving. I saw two dishes that I was prepared to not care for. I was SO wrong. They both were in the favorite column! The egg custard I had simply invisioned an entirely different dish, so to my surprise, I was so impressed. If I could critique one aspect of the dish, I'd have thought a generous grind of Szechuan pepper would have popped this dish over the moon. The red bean creme brulee was the other sleeper dish I was not prepared to love. But of course it was incredibly delicious. The service is kinda Michelin star if you ask me and I can honestly say I look forward to that friendly/professional staff and perfectly synced dining service. Dishes were perfectly paced and each dish was presented beautifully and steaming hot. This place was packed and service never floundered. Apparently Kwoks Chinese New Year set menu dinner has takin off. They apparently doubled their reservations this year. I had booked our reservation on the last day of their original schedule but with overwhelming demand they have extended Chinese new year dinner reservations! Go if you can!!! read more

Mongolian Beef was slimy and undercooked (never experienced that before tonight), and the flavor overall for Mongolian Beef and General Tso's Chicken was minimal at best. I've had real General Tso's, and this one tasted nothing like it, more like Panda Express's Honey Sesame Chicken but drier. The only thing that was good was the chow mein and even that wasn't impressive. For 3 dishes and one side, I paid $73. You can do much better flavor and money-wise elsewhere. Will definitely never return and cannot recommend it to anyone else. See attached photo for undercooked beef. read more
A perrenial favorite amongst our friends, we were eager to try Kwoks. Its a small restaurant, with only 7 tables (by my count) so be sure to make a reservation. I believe reservations are required on weekends. We went to Kwoks before catching a show at the Pioneer, so leftovers wasn't going to a great option, which forced us to order only a few plates. The consensus of the table, the prize dish was the Honey Walnut Prawns. Crunchy with a hint of sweetness, the prawns were cooked to perfection. Often Honey Walnut Prawns are just too sweet, not at Kwoks. Perfection. The second favorite dish, out our table was the Braised Tofu with Vegetables. The tofu was flavorful, simmered in a delicious sauce. Served with mushrooms and accompanied with baby bok choi. A delicious and healthy dish. Next came the 5 spice Pork. Fried Pork slices tossed with 5 Spice Salt, Jalapeños, Garlic and Scallions. The pork was served boneless, a small but welcome detail. The pork was flavorful, tender and moist. The last dish was the Beef Chow Fun with Gravy. Stir-fried Ho Fun Noodles with House Gravy, Bok Choy and choice of Chicken, Beef or Pork. Also served with baby Bok Choi. The Chow Fun noodles were delicious but tended to stick together so a bit of work to separate them. A small detail in an otherwise delightful dish. The service was prompt, welcoming and professional, especially for such an intimate restaurant. A great first visit, we look forward to planning our next. read more
Just happened to be here before heading back to the airport to catch my flight! If I can give a restaurant a 20/10 rating I will give it to Kwok's anytime any day! I am not kidding in saying this.....THE BEST CHINESE CANTONESE FOOD I've ever had in America!! This may sound outrageous to anyone reading my review but I invite you to check this place out when you visit Reno. They are only open for dinner at time from 4-9 pm and make sure to make a reservation. It's only a tiny place and a few tables so they only take reservations. But they said that during summer when the weather is pleasant, they have an outdoor seating. I ordered from their chef's special menu and got the rice paper roll with pork and shrimp and their black pepper beef and shrimp claypot. Both were just unbelievably gastronomically delicious. The rice paper roll was very delicate but bursting with flavor and you did it in this soy seasoning. Ask for some chili oil on the side if you like it spicy. The claypot was just overflowing with goodness! The beef was so tender and the shrimp was cooked to perfection. It was served in a small cast iron pot and you can taste the medley of flavors of a hint of sweetness, the pepper flavor, the hint of ginger added so much depth to the dish with onion and bell peppers. After you read this review, and if you happen to be in Reno or Tahoe area, pls do yourself a favor and drop every thing you're doing and give them a call and make a reservation ASAP. The service is quick and friendly. The interior is very clean. The seating is limited but not claustrophobic. We started with the salt and pepper tofu, which was quite good. We then had the salt & pepper lamb and General's chicken, which were excellent. We plan to return. read more

I got a reservation on the same day. They were very timely and upon arrival the table had been set up. The service is absolutely tremendous, I enjoyed their enthusiasm! The food was delicious, and it arrived in a timely manner. In Chinese saying, it is high praise if the food has 'wok hei' and this food did! A highlight was the lamb special, it was delicious. Definitely come here, you won't be disappointed! read more
The fact that we came here for a pre fixe Chinese new year menu pretty much shows how amazing kwoks is. Loved everything on the menu! Cod was flaky and moist. Green tea creme brulée was amazing! Not too sweet and just the right amount of "crack" It was very busy when we went, but not chaotic. Everyone was very attentive. Setting was very relaxed and restaurant was decorated ever so slightly for the new year. read more

Called and a man who was polite and clear took my order with the total and expected wait. The inside of the bistro is intimate, clean and decorated in a modern fashion. There is a patio area for dining when it's not 29 degrees ;). Food was ready a minute after arrival and paying. I love that they asked if utensils were needed. Everything was packaged beautifully and they let us know that they left the lid off the tofu so it would not get soggy. Their hours are 4-8pm with reservations required for dine in. Beautiful little gem in Reno! Make sure you call ahead for reservation. They fill up quickly and for good reason. Some of the best Chinese cuisines in North America, comparable to SF, LA, and even HK. We had so many good dishes, the roast pork and chicken wings being my personal favorite. We went on a Saturday evening after hearing recommendation from a friend. This restaurant is kinda unique for an Asian restaurant in Reno, as it is reservation only via phone call. Part of the reason is that the restaurant is surprisingly small. It is not a fine dining establishment. You order your food like any other Asian restaurants. The pricing is indeed higher than the city norm but not absurd. We ordered a number of items. 1/4 Roasted duck over rice. 3.5/5. Roasted duck is a hard find in Reno. It was good but nothing special. Was not served with the typical dipping sauce Pork Porridge with century egg. 5/5. We loved this one. Make sure to put generous amount of optional white pepper and green onion into it. It was really good. Singapore noodles. 4/5. Good House fried rice. 4.5/5. Quite good! Simple dish but done well Five Spice Pork. 4/5. I actually really liked it while my wife wasnt a fan. My only criticism was how small the amount of pork there was for the paid pricing. All in all, we enjoyed the experience. The service was prompt and responsive. However we are not likely to revisit in foreseeable future. Yes, it is more expensive than its competitors but Kwok does serve some harder to find dishes. The main problem for us is that it is not easily accessible. It requires reservation for a otherwise quite ordinary Asian dining experience. Nestled in the heart of downtown Reno with the views of the casinos and the new J Festival Event Grounds, this golden gem sits. Hitting Yelp's top 100 and we see why! Reservations are preferred, but only because the restaurant space is quite small, but the patio is open during nice evenings for walk-ins! Let's get to the food: my husband ordered the Mongolian Beef and I opted for the Szechuan Beef. Both were astounding and surpassed our expectations. The spice was beautifully executed and the associated vegetables were fresh, crisp, and it took on the flavors of the seasoning and sauces. We definitely will be ordering again, and we can't wait to try out the other fares too! Service was top notch and attentive to us, and they were always prompt with checking in and delivering our food. Very conversational and nice service, which adds to the charm! Best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to, hands down. Every time I visit, I have never been disappointed. A must order item is the fried rice. It's moist, it's flavorful, it's the best fried rice I've ever had. I also order the wings, kwok's shrimp, and spinach and garlic to offset all the meat. Each dish is amazing. The staff are very welcoming and recognize many of their customers. Inside, it feels like such a close-knit environment not found in many restaurants. Store hours are limited, and so are the seating options, so be prepared to wait or make a reservation. read more
