Came for lunch with a party of 8. There's construction going on, so beware of how loud it will be in here, it's also a smaller space so the sound is echoing throughout. I just spent $10 on portion size of a little more than half a dollar. The food is good here but the size to cost ratio is not. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and this is what I got. I came in to get boba next door before picking my kids up and heading back to Sparks. I realized that I have not been in Thai Lotus since my youngest was born. It's my old man's favorite Thai restaurant in town, but our last visit here service fell short. I decided to order to-go and sat on their bench by the counter. I wanted to go straight home after picking my kids up from school. I ordered two lunch specials today; a chicken basil and a chicken pad thai. I'm happy to report that my food was deliciously packed with flavor and hot. The girl working at the counter was patient and friendly while ordering and my food was up within 10 minutes. Can't speak for the service, but personally the food did not land for us. We got the Pad Thai, and the Shrimp Rangoons with peanut sauce. We were surprised by the tiny shrimp in the rangoons, would have preferred to have just cream cheese. And we usually prefer a more creamy texture of the peanut sauce. The Pad see ew was order with no heat but it was very sweet to eat. We're used to it being savory without being spicy. The fried rice also didn't have the usual "sauce" that Thai basil rice is cooked with and came out very dry. I was tempted to order a curry to go with it. Let me start with being Asian, we LOVE Thai food. Unfortunately Thai Lotus is not the place I would start, necessarily. To be fair, not all restaurants make all dishes perfectly but you do have to do the basics well. We visited Thai Lotus on the recommendation of friends after our weekly Pickleball play. The restaurant has a nice ambiance to it and they were able to accomodate our larger party (12) quite willingly. The staff were helpful and friendly. Always a challenge when serving a busy restaurant. Pad Thai, a true staple of Thai Cuisine. Our dish was overly saucey and just too sweet. We ordered our meal with Tofu. The Tofu was a bit tough and quite tasteless. I ordered the Yellow Curry. Perhaps one of my favorite Thai dishes. This had to be the most bland tasting, watery instances I have ever tried. It was just bad. It did have a generous portion of protein (Chicken) but was completly devoid of flavor. We came back after a great experience 9 years ago, and I really wanted to love it again. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 is because the staff and service were excellent--they were well-staffed, attentive, and genuinely kind. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the memory. We ordered two lunch specials: Pad Thai with chicken and Pumpkin Curry with chicken. The specials came with a broth-and-veggie soup, an iceberg salad with peanut dressing, a fried appetizer with sweet Thai chili sauce, and rice. The issue was that nearly everything--except the soup and rice--was overwhelmingly sweet. It tasted as if sugar had been added generously, without the usual balancing notes of lime, fish sauce, tamarind, or acidity. The Pad Thai in particular lacked the classic tamarind flavor and instead resembled the sweetness of a sweet-and-sour sauce. It was almost inedible. The chicken in both dishes also tasted old and reheated, and didn't seem integrated into the sauces--almost like it was cooked separately and tossed in at the end, leaving it bland and dry. Maybe this is a lunch-batch issue, but at $40 for two lunch specials, it's hard to justify trying again. I'm disappointed because we had such a wonderful experience years ago, but this visit just didn't deliver on flavor or freshness. So now I have to find good Thai in Reno. read more

This was a great stop, and found by perusing local Reno Yelp reviews to locate a good Thai lunch spot. Although busy with a lunch rush, I was seated and given water right away. The excellent service continued throughout the meal and I was impressed by the excellent flavor profiles of the dish I ordered. They used fresh and flavorful ingredients, and added just the right amount of seasoning to make my Khao Kra Prao Moo Saap (pictured) a memorable and delicious meal. Many other places go light on the sauce, Thai Lotus gave me plenty of sauce to mix in with my jasmine rice and Prik Nam Pla topper. The booth I had was in a peaceful rear corner of the room, giving me a good people watching vantage point where I could see, friends, co-workers, couples both young and old enjoying a memorable meal together. It was nice to see the prevailing happiness and positive vibe. I will definitely be eating here again and am glad I found it! It came with white rice and I decided to also order a bottled chai tea. Unfortunately due to work I wasn't able to enjoy my food right away. But, even after a few hours the food was still so good. The rice was super fluffy and light, not crunchy or hard at all. There was a great balance of vegetables and chicken. Overall it wasn't too salty, or heavy, and full of flavor! I went with the medium spice and it was just enough! I so wish I lived in this area as good Thai food is difficult to come by and Thai Lotus checks all the flavor buttons for me. I grabbed a meal to go during my Oddcha Experience and I was quite pleased with the food! The salad and peanut sauce was the perfect size. The curry was hot and perfectly spiced. The rice was cooked beautifully. And the appetizer was crunchy and good! The only reason we had a star knocked off was the wait. For my one meal it took nearly 20 minutes past the 20 minutes they originally asked for when I called and placed my order in. I understand they are busy but there's not much space to wait and most people swing by on their lunch break. We ordered the Basil Eggplant and Panang Curry. There were some sides accompanying the main dish: a healthy serving of rice, a salad with peanut sauce dressing, and a spring roll.
