The food....well, that's where the mixed results begin. We ordered 4 dishes - Thai Lotus chicken, yellow curry, pad see ew, and papaya salad. Yellow Curry was the best of the 4 dishes, probably a 6/10. The pad see ew was second at a 5/10. Came for lunch with a party of 8. There's construction going on, so beware of how loud it will be in here, it's also a smaller space so the sound is echoing throughout. Staff is friendly and accommodating. I got the pad see ew with beef and spice level 2. It was a little too sweet and it didn't have any spice in it at all. I ordered Pad Thai with thick noodles made in house. Spice level not mixed in, provided on the side - I'd rather have it mixed in the kitchen. I met some fellow yelpers at this restaurant. I never was a huge fan of Thai food but I'm always willing to give it a chance. What I like most is their cooking method for rice, a good Thai restaurant cooks their by steaming, this yields a wonderful product. I ordered the red curry with beef and vegetables. The meal came with a small salad. The rice they made was okay but I didn't think they cooked the rice using the steam method at this restaurant. I had a great dining experience for dinner. We were seated quickly and our friendly waitress took our order right way. The food was absolutely delicious, savory, hot, and comforting on a cold rainy day. We had tom yum soup to start which warmed us up nicely. Can't speak for the service, but personally the food did not land for us. We got the Pad Thai, and the Shrimp Rangoons with peanut sauce. We were surprised by the tiny shrimp in the rangoons, would have preferred to have just cream cheese. And we usually prefer a more creamy texture of the peanut sauce. Me, my son and my brothers were craving Thai food. There were a few Thai places for us to choose from so we decided to go to this Thai restaurant because of the positive yelp reviews. The restaurant was pretty much packed, but our party of six was able to get seated and table ready within five minutes. A lot of customers were coming in and out for the Boba and smoothie drinks. When we got seated on the restaurant side. We seen the other peoples food and the portions were good enough for two people. My son ordered Thai street noodle dish which had pork, shrimp, and tofu. The meat was very flavorful and the noodles were al dente and had some bounce to it which translates to good texture. I ordered Panang curry, which was peanut butter based with chicken.This dish was flavorful, rich, and creamy. The chicken broke down like butter and the green beans and baby corn still had some crunch to it. Love this dish. I also ordered pad Thai and this dish definitely was authentic. The noodles again was cooked to perfection and the sauce didn't lack in flavor whatsoever. Tofu and peanuts made the dish irresistible. Our waitress was very nice and always came back to check on us. The environment was very Thai driven with Buddha and paintings showing the Thai culture all around. I just spent $10 on portion size of a little more than half a dollar. The food is good here but the size to cost ratio is not. I ordered the fresh spring rolls and this is what I got. I can't recommend this Thai restaurant, when every other Thai/asian restaurant fresh rolls are regular size for the same price. I guess Bangkok cuisine is now my permanent goto for Thai food. The food was easily top 5 nationwide, if not top 2. You can tell when you walk in because it's always busy. The staff is knowledgeable, and they bend over backwards to take care of you. We had a minor issue with our order (a computer glitch or something caused our order to get lost in the kitchen). I came in to get boba next door before picking my kids up and heading back to Sparks. I realized that I have not been in Thai Lotus since my youngest was born. It's my old man's favorite Thai restaurant in town, but our last visit here service fell short. I decided to order to-go and sat on their bench by the counter. I wanted to go straight home after picking my kids up from school. I ordered two lunch specials today; a chicken basil and a chicken pad thai. I'm happy to report that my food was deliciously packed with flavor and hot. The girl working at the counter was patient and friendly while ordering and my food was up within 10 minutes. The Pad see ew was order with no heat but it was very sweet to eat. We're used to it being savory without being spicy. The fried rice also didn't have the usual "sauce" that Thai basil rice is cooked with and came out very dry. I was tempted to order a curry to go with it. Let me start with being Asian, we LOVE Thai food. Unfortunately Thai Lotus is not the place I would start, necessarily. To be fair, not all restaurants make all dishes perfectly but you do have to do the basics well. We visited Thai Lotus on the recommendation of friends after our weekly Pickleball play. The restaurant has a nice ambiance to it and they were able to accomodate our larger party (12) quite willingly. The staff were helpful and friendly. Always a challenge when serving a busy restaurant. Pad Thai, a true staple of Thai Cuisine. Our dish was overly saucey and just too sweet. We ordered our meal with Tofu. The Tofu was a bit tough and quite tasteless. I ordered the Yellow Curry. Perhaps one of my favorite Thai dishes. This had to be the most bland tasting, watery instances I have ever tried. It was just bad. It did have a generous portion of protein (Chicken) but was completly devoid of flavor. I'm sure they have other dishes that may better suit your pallet but on this evening, these two dishes did not suit ours. read more

We came back after a great experience 9 years ago, and I really wanted to love it again. The reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 is because the staff and service were excellent--they were well-staffed, attentive, and genuinely kind. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the memory. We ordered two lunch specials: Pad Thai with chicken and Pumpkin Curry with chicken. The specials came with a broth-and-veggie soup, an iceberg salad with peanut dressing, a fried appetizer with sweet Thai chili sauce, and rice. The issue was that nearly everything--except the soup and rice--was overwhelmingly sweet. It tasted as if sugar had been added generously, without the usual balancing notes of lime, fish sauce, tamarind, or acidity. The Pad Thai in particular lacked the classic tamarind flavor and instead resembled the sweetness of a sweet-and-sour sauce. It was almost inedible. The chicken in both dishes also tasted old and reheated, and didn't seem integrated into the sauces--almost like it was cooked separately and tossed in at the end, leaving it bland and dry. Maybe this is a lunch-batch issue, but at $40 for two lunch specials, it's hard to justify trying again. I'm disappointed because we had such a wonderful experience years ago, but this visit just didn't deliver on flavor or freshness. So now I have to find good Thai in Reno. read more

I could give the dude at the Enterprise counter at the Reno-Tahoe airport a huge hug for recommending Thai Lotus! It makes sense why him and his wife come here all the time as the food is nothing short of amazing! I decided to do an online order the day before I left as due to the time that they open I wouldn't have made my flight. I got the vegetable with oyster sauce and added chicken. It came with white rice and I decided to also order a bottled chai tea. Unfortunately due to work I wasn't able to enjoy my food right away. But, even after a few hours the food was still so good. The rice was super fluffy and light, not crunchy or hard at all. There was a great balance of vegetables and chicken. Overall it wasn't too salty, or heavy, and full of flavor! I went with the medium spice and it was just enough! I so wish I lived in this area as good Thai food is difficult to come by and Thai Lotus checks all the flavor buttons for me. This was a great stop, and found by perusing local Reno Yelp reviews to locate a good Thai lunch spot. Although busy with a lunch rush, I was seated and given water right away. The excellent service continued throughout the meal and I was impressed by the excellent flavor profiles of the dish I ordered. They used fresh and flavorful ingredients, and added just the right amount of seasoning to make my Khao Kra Prao Moo Saap (pictured) a memorable and delicious meal. Many other places go light on the sauce, Thai Lotus gave me plenty of sauce to mix in with my jasmine rice and Prik Nam Pla topper. The booth I had was in a peaceful rear corner of the room, giving me a good people watching vantage point where I could see, friends, co-workers, couples both young and old enjoying a memorable meal together. It was nice to see the prevailing happiness and positive vibe. I will definitely be eating here again and am glad I found it! I had the Beef stew- very rich, slightly sweet broth with vegetables, the tender meat falls tight off the bone. I grabbed a meal to go during my Oddcha Experience and I was quite pleased with the food! The salad and peanut sauce was the perfect size. The curry was hot and perfectly spiced. The rice was cooked beautifully. And the appetizer was crunchy and good! The only reason we had a star knocked off was the wait. For my one meal it took nearly 20 minutes past the 20 minutes they originally asked for when I called and placed my order in. I understand they are busy but there's not much space to wait and most people swing by on their lunch break.
