Cafe De Thai is in the heart of Midtown and has a lot of vegan friendly options that made it a great spot to have lunch. Our server was very knowledgable on their vegan items so it helped in our decision making. We ordered the Mushroom Salad, a Tofu Pad Kee Mow, and their Tofu Satay. The mushroom salad was a refreshing standout filled with a variety of grilled mushrooms on a bed of greens. Our noodles with tofu and veggies was also great - large portions and plenty of protein. As for the satay, they accidentally brought out chicken satay at first, which our server immediately noticed and rectified the issue. When the tofu satay came out, it ended up being skewers of fried tofu puffs that you'd dip into their peanut sauce. While delicious, I was hoping there would be more creativity in layering or marinating the tofu with the sauce like the chicken satay would have been. As a Californian, I appreciated the lower pricing for their menu items and found it fairly inexpensive given the times. After some shopping it was time to nurse that tummy. You know after some shopping its exhausting. . Came here and had a taste for some mushroom dumpling. So the mushrooms is seasoned right and wrapped in a wonton wrap and deep fried in soy oil. The dumpling was fresh and tasted very pure and clean in the oil it was fried from. They fry it in a separate oil they say. The mushroom dumpling comes on a bed of salad with fresh cucumber and comes with some thai chili dipping sauce. . The mango with sticky rice. For 5.95 it could have come with a little more mango. It looked very little like a third of a mango. Usually there's more mango for that price. The taste is fresh and good. . I ordered through ubereats. The food was hot, as they are not far from my house, and the delivery time and fee was low. Apparently I'm their best customer, Ubereats said so! I've ordered from there 5 times! Anyway, the chicken coconut soup was great as usual. I ordered the fisherman's spring roll(not fried) 11.95, but I received the pork egg rolls (fried) 8.95. Instead. I see quite a bit of negative reviews primarily from delivery orders. Everything here was very good and the service was excellent. The veggies are organic, the food was flavorful and not oily. I'd definitely recommend this place, maybe try dining in if it's your first time. Aside from food and service, the inside was very clean and well organized. Late Friday afternoon we had the place to ourselves. I had a plan. Saturday morning fried rice breakfast. So with that in mind we ordered big. Crispy mushroom dumplings, chicken coconut soup, house green salad, Penang chicken curry and Thai fried rice. Ah the best laid plans. The dumplings were delicious. Crispy with a sweet pepper sauce was a large appetizer for us. Brought two home. Coconut soup was the best. She loves coconut soup and this cup not bowl was large and wonderful. The salad had crispy noodles on it plus oranges, cucumbers, mango and greens. Don't know what the noodles were but they really add to a salad. Penang chicken curry with a side of rice is my go to Thai dish. Must branch out but why!! Thai fried rice could have used soy sauce but I'll add that tomorrow morning! After eating at Two Chicks and seeing this place, we made a note to sometime come back. Cafe De Thai is a pretty small cafe. They however have a pretty large menu. Hours can be weird, and we had to come back yet again when they weren't open at lunch. You should try to get here whenever they open to check it out. I noticed a few other reviewers said the hours they're open are screwy, so I know how it feels. One late morning they were finally open. They apparently close in the afternoon now but that's not stated anywhere on the door or its website. Looking over the menu we noticed the food was on the expensive side, but that seems typical of a lot of Thai restaurants around here. The lunch menu is a little cheaper so we picked the right time. It was time for a kind of light lunch. We decided to share an entree to save stomach room, and money. It has a lot of vegetarian items. We got the Pak Pad Kapow. It's $11.50 and is a pretty good amount. This comes with basil, chili peppers, garlic, tofu, and other vegetables. It's pretty spicy but not crazy. The rest of the flavor was good with lots of basil, and it had an amount of sweetness that accompanied the spiciness and made the flavor interesting. Check it out but call ahead. This place is really not good. I have had food before that I didn't like and was disappointed with, but this is by far the worst. I don't like to leave bad reviews but this was the worst food I have ordered and am so disappointed that we paid $40 for a meal we couldn't even eat. Our experience started off bad right off the bat. I don't really like meat or tofu in my curry. They have a vegetable curry for 9.95. My boyfriend ordered and asked if they could replace the tofu with some more vegetables and they said yes. After we paid we realized that they charged us $13.95 for my dish because of that??? The MEAT curry that comes with a choice of PROTEIN is 12.95. How is my "extra vegetable" curry more expensive that that? Especially when considering I didn't get tofu? That was whack. My boyfriend got the basil chicken and literally could not eat it because it was so salty. I'm not kidding you this dish was literally inedible. If you think top ramen has a lot of sodium, it's no where near the amount as the basil chicken. Rice does NOT come included with the meal so we ordered it on the side. When our meals came out, the rice was already in the curry. We get Thai a lot and never have I gotten my curry with rice in it. I like to add how much I want to, and I like to be able to take it home for leftovers (not that we wanted to take this home anyway). My "extra vegetable" curry came with a basic amount of vegetables so I don't know what I paid an extra $4 but on top of that, the vegetables are SO WEIRD. My curry came with full mushrooms, they weren't even sliced. And full on cherry tomatoes. Who puts a cherry tomato into a curry. It was a cold tomato in hot curry. What? Wanted to like this place but just couldn't. The server was funny and friendly. We mostly picked this place out for the patio. However, the food was just not good at all. Everything came out quickly, but I think that may have been a big part of the problem. The noodles were all stuck together. My level 4 spicy dish had no spice to it. Everything seemed doused in the fish sauce which is a normal ingredient in Asian foods but it's normally carefully mixed and balanced with other flavors. After ordering some green curry, shrimp lettuce wraps, and a boba iced drink from Cafe de Thai one night on a food delivery app, I browsed their Yelp reviews to see what others had thought of their offerings. Loving that they were a local Thai restaurant with later-than-typical hours, I was kinda excited to be satisfying a Thai craving so late in the evening. Combing through many of the reviews, I started second-guessing my decision, as so many people seemed to have mediocre or less-than-appealing dining experiences. However, it was too late to turn back, and I was still curious to try them for the first time. When my food arrived, I was happy as usual to take those first delicious sips of my bubble tea - still cold and quite flavorful when it arrived. Then I dug into the shrimp lettuce wrap appetizer, which was tasty. I was a little confused at some of the ingredients, since there were chopped pieces of lemon in my wraps (including the rind?!), but enjoyed the creativity of the dish overall. The vegetarian green curry was yummy, laden with fresh veggies and LOTS (almost too much) cubed tofu. I ate it with the steamed rice provided, and the serving size easily provided me with two meals. Was it my favorite Thai food ever? No. Favorite Thai food in Reno? No, that title has already been won over by Thai Lotus. I was kind of hoping for more substance to chew (meaning there weren't too many veggies in mine) but it was a lot of broth. It was very good flavor ! We also ordered the spring rolls (vegetarian). They are so different than any spring rolls I've had in the past. They had greens and egg plants and apples. I really loved how they presented them on a fancy dish with 3 different sauces to try with them. One sauce was peanut sauce, one was a plum sauce and one was a sweet and sour sauce. I'm a fan of a bit of a dryer Pad Thai, and not so much a saucy one. This was perfect. I asked for " extra extra extra limes" and they delivered!!! They gave me so many limes I was in lime heaven!! The Thai iced tea was everything I needed it to be in that moment. Now, the website does say that they deliver it to you with ice on the side...but this came all together. Either way it was delivered very fast so it wasn't melted. My least favorite thing was the soup. Now don't get me wrong, I love crab...and the crab in the soup was amazing. But I don't know about that broth. It was described as chowder but it didn't taste like chowder. it kind of just tasted like milk. There were big chunks of onion I believe in there which I don't like... and there was a very very small amount of cilantro. Just needed more, more herbs, more spices, more something. Although I have a feeling that's how it is supposed to be...a very minimalist soup. I've had other Thai milk-based soups and wasn't a fan of those either so maybe it's just me. Both had vegetables there were old and dis colored and we called a head and asked about the rice the man on the phone said you had to order the rice separately, so we ordered sticky rice and white rice came in the same container as the curry and all the sauce was dried up from the rice. Every Thai dish I've tried are flavourful and delicious. I wish their is a little more variety on their lunch menu. I ordered Pad Thai, few varieties of curries, and boba drinks, and extra limes and they delivered. Cai was such a great help. She was our server and it was our first time here. Super helpful and friendly. We started with a bunch of appetizers and soups. Everything was so fresh and delicious. Very light and healthy. The fisherman spring rolls were amazing. Easy bite, 3 different sauces chili, sesame and cilantro. The cilantro sauce was by far my favorite. I also tried two different soups the chicken coconut and the crab chowder. They were totally different. The chicken coconut soup was very good but a little sweet. If you like coconut milk you will love it though. The crab chowder was rich and creamy. It was good too but nothing like clam and chowder. The mushroom dumplings were a real treat. Light and delicious. The WORST RESTAURANT I've ever been in my life!!!!! This restaurant doesn't even deserve one star. When we entered, we were told that we should wait around 45 mins which was completely fine, but the owner's attitude was totally not acceptable. Eventually, we waited more than an hour to get the food. I was VERY DISPLEASED by his attitude, when I told him he could have treated his customer better, he said if we don't want his food then get out. He then just put the orders on the side table even though I was standing in front of him and said I am very rude. I completely wasted $35 to order basil chicken, fisherman spring rolls, and tigerwood tea and threw all of them away in the garbage can ( as well as my friends'). I even paid 2 extra dollars to order white rice and the rice was completely undercooked. We ordered a total of 3 Basil Chickens and it was sour and disgusting, the vegetables in the fisherman spring rolls were not thoroughly washed, which made me scared to even try. Hopefully, the couple bites I took do not give me food poisoning. The two same boba teas my friends ordered were even different in taste and color, the one has lighter color tasted like water mixed with a lot of sugar. He seemed like using the same cup to make with other boba teas. When my friend asked about the tea, he (the owner) even insulted my friend's parents and said he should have received better education from his parents. Yes, it really made me doubtful whether he is mentally ill. Again, WE ALL THREW OUR ORDERS INTO A TRASH CAN! One of the employees followed us and apologized, and said that his boss is VERY RUDE. This was the most DISGUSTING food I've ever had. I ordered the pad Thai and Thai tea from GrubHub. I ordered the pad Thai as medium spicy as well. When the food arrived, I immediately noticed the pad Thai looked pale and smelled off. There was no sauce at all on the pad Thai. It looked as if they just cooked the noodles, added the shrimp and chicken with a sort of chili paste on top and called it a day. The smell was nauseating as well. However, I hate wasting food so I tried to salvage it as much as I could by adding oyster sauce and Sriracha. Needless to say, no amount of salvaging helped. I took a bite of the shrimp and it tasted rubbery as if it were reused or gone bad. I knew at that point there was no way I could risk eating this without possibly getting sick so I threw the entire meal out. I wish I had better news for the Thai tea. The boba was literally inedible. You could tell it wasn't fresh and very difficult to chew. The tea itself did not taste like normal Thai tea but a watered down mess. I've ordered here a few times over the last couple years and didn't order anything for almost 2 years until today. I eventually stopped going as I preferred the Deluxe over cafe de Thai since it had more vegetarian options when it was open and was close. I always thought the portion sizes from here were small but was sadly reminded when I got my food. I ordered the potato and mushroom dumplings which are both appetizers. They were both really yummy but the mushroom dumplings seemed like they sat out too long before being fried as they were chewy. The potato dumplings I could count on one hand how many there were, which didn't make up for the $7 price tag. I also got the green papaya salad which is my go to from every Thai place. When I ordered this salad many years ago from here it did not have any meat, and I didn't see that it had shrimp on the menu. If I'm going to eat meat I prefer it to be fish but I try not to, however, there was only one small shrimp in the dish lol. Every Thai place I've gone to in California and Nevada has never served meat with this salad so I don't understand why they do here. And most disappointing were the fresh spring rolls I ordered. Previously, you ordered this and they gave you 4 rolls that were not cut up and individually wrapped in plastic wrap. Now for the same price, you get half the amount of rolls and they are chopped up into thirds making them much more difficult to eat and not fall apart. Although most of the food was okay, I am pretty disappointed with my experience and will not be back. I would give today 2 stars and I'm giving another star from my previous positive experiences back in 2018. I much prefer Moo Dang in South Reno by plumb lane as you can rate how spicy you want your food and you get free fried fish balls when you check in on Yelp. I was so looking forward to the blue crab chowder but it was a complete and total "miss". There was no detacatable flavor of crab or crab meat. This menu item needs to be improved immediately or removed...it totally detracts from the meal. This group of women practically ordered 1 each of each dessert. How could we go wrong? The rice pudding and berries was good as was the coconut ice cream, but everything else was....well....just not particularly good. The server was very proud of the King's Cake and its heritage. Definitely light and refreshing but meh. Portions are great so you won't be left feeling hungry. Oh also you HAVE to try the caramelized boba. Some of the BEST boba I've ever had. This was my first time eating here and I am always excited to try Thai food. The new thai soy tea boba is really good and worth trying. We ordered shrimp fried rice as well which was tasty and the serving size for all of the food was so much! The spice levels are very intense and we like spicy food. Level 2 was just enough because if you go to level 3 you will be sweating (in my opinion). Only downside is we ordered 2 yellow curries and got 2 different ones. The door dash order took a long time so we didn't want to make it a hassle as the curry was still delicious. Just double check with the restaurant before door dash picks it up or if you are doing to go. read more

This restaurant has always been fantastic, The BEST Pad Thai. We were able to enjoy dinner as a family with mild Pad Thai for the kids and something to suit everyone. The service was great and the full bar accommodates a fantastic cocktail selection. The service was good and the food was served quickly. read more
