Curry noodles
Chelsey L.

Me and my husband were taking our son to a park nearby and spotted this place while driving by so decided to stop in for lunch. I think they were a little taken back at first because they open at 12 and we literally walked in at 12 on the dot (a weird coincidence lol), but the server was amazing, got to work right away and interacted with my son. It was pretty much 1:1 service and she was so so nice. The food was great, we had some egg rolls and chicken satay for an appetizer and my son's main dish and both dishes were very good. The star for me was my entree though, I had the curry noodles which were somewhere between a soup and a regular noodle dish as there was a lot of the curry sauce. Absolutely delicious. I went with a spicy level of 2 and I'm glad I didn't go any higher because the 2 still packed a punch! Thankfully I do like a little heat. My husband had a level 3 for his noodles and he said they were pretty spicy so if you're not a spicy person I would go low! If we are ever in the area again we will definitely be back!

Side - Cucumber Salad So fresh, sweet & vibrant.

Wow. I ordered from DoorDash. Food arrived very hot and packaged nicely. The cucumber salad smelled fresh and vibrant the moment I ordered it. It had a fresh, and sweet, yummy taste. The Tom Kha was packed with veggies, more than I've ever experienced with delivered Thai. It is wildly flavorful, a bit tangy, sweet, and bold. The tofu soup is a flavor blast. Heck, add noodles and I would have the perfect ramen. Again, packed with veggies and tofu. Additionally, the variety of veggies is much broader than I'm used to seeing. I will absolutely order from here again. Yummmmmmo!!

While I am giving this review 3 stars, it is not mosly based on the food. I had chosen this restaurant as my favorite Thai restaurant in Reno. However, yesterday was a huge disappointment based on the service we received. We were seated by the window, but obviously too far from the server. We waited nearly ten minutes for him to return to take our beverage order, at which time we ordered our food. We ordered lunch specials - I ordered the Spicy Thai Basil with added beef and my husband ordered a cashew dish with added shrimp. I also ordered rice (75 cents) to share. I specified to the server we would share the rice. When our soup arrived, we asked for soy sauce and hot sauce as well as salt and pepper. We waited and waited. The choice - eat your soup the way it was or wait until it was cold and we could season it appropriately. My husband started to walk up to the server to get the items himself. The server said he would bring them to our table, which he did. The pepper tray (three different choices) looked nasty. I hesitantly added dried chili flakes to my soup. When our entree arrived, the rice was on my plate and I received half the amount of salad that my husband did. The salad was delicious and I truly wished I had more. The server did not come back and check on us. When he did I told him my spicy basil dish was not spicy at all. I told him the name of the dish was "spicy" and his reply was that "that is just the name." He then told me that I did not specify if I wanted it spicy, at a 1 through 5 level of heatness. I told hm that he did not ask how spicy I wanted it. His reply was, "Oh sorry." I was further irritated when we received the bill because it said "Not spicy." We could not eat our food easily because the vegetables were cut in huge pieces. I chose to eat part of my entree and take the rest home so I could eat it easier. I also took the DRY rice home. I asked for boxes and he did bring them quicker. I had to ask for a bag for the containers. My husband had iced tea and wanted a refill. This was never offered, and when he took his glass and walked up to the server he finally got a refill. I put our card on the try to pay and that was picked up quickly. The server, at the same time, took my husband's plate while he was still eating. When my husband said something, the server offered to give it back to him. No thanks! I mentioned to the server that the condiment tray looked nasty. He said it was just from the hot sauces. I told him it needed to be cleaned as it was dirty on the outside. He told me that it was cleaned once a week!!!!!!! I told him it should be cleaned after every guest. He looked surprised and thanked me for my input. I told him this was the worst service we had ever received at Siam Thai. He gave me permission to not leave a tip. Granted!

40. Khao Soi
Jordan B.

I came to this restaurant as I've been searching for Khao Soi in Reno and I found it!!! This massive bowl w/ level 3 spice was amazing! Best part, it is enough for 2 dinners for me. Kids got Tom Kha (a bit sour in my opinion) and tempura shrimp curry, both huge portions but the tempura shrimp was just fried shrimp. The only disappointment was the avocado rolls, tasted good but very small portions. I'll be back for the Khao Soi again!

Pad Thai - Native Thai Spicy
Breanna S.

We decided to check out a new (to us) Thai restaurant! The service was kind of slow for us, but we were patient. The overall restaurant was clean and well put together, which was a plus. The food was amazing! The native Thai spicy on my pad Thai could have been more, but the flavors were great, and I added some chili oil to get it to my liking. The Thai basil fried rice was good, however, we ordered a level 3 spicy and it came out with no spice (we checked the receipt and the server misheard us). The intentional order was for the Thai basil noodles, no biggie. The Thai iced tea was delicious and tasted great! Overall, good experience, good food, just a slower pace in service.

Avacado egg roll

The ambiance in this small restaurant is neat, clean and comfortable. And the service was good as well. But they have no concept of the idea that appetizers come out first and all entrees should be served at the same time. My sisters dinner came out when we just started our appetizer. My dinner came out 10 minutes later My sister's Pad Thai was very good .. although the shrimp was slightly over done I decided to try something different.. I almost always order pork pad Thai. So I decided to try the Crazy Duck.... Crispy duck with Spinach and peanut sauce. I assumed the spinach would be cooked .. it was not .. and I didn't ask so I couldn't complain. So it was warm peanut sauce over raw spinach .. kind of a strange combo, but it was actually tasty. The waitress apologized my dinner taking so long. Said there was a new cook in the kitchen. Perhaps that's why my crispy duck was like chunky jerky ... overcooked and dry. Yet the center pieces which I was able to eat was quite tasty. Perhaps this is the way it's supposed to be. I do plan on going back. However I'll probably stick to what I know unless I have someone with me who knows what's really good. Avocado egg roll .. sounds strange, but it was really good. Definitely order this again. Located on Caughlin Parkway, next to Raley's.

This place really stands out for both the quality of the food and the authenticity of the flavors. The dishes taste fresh and homemade, with the kind of balance of spice, sweetness, and flavor you expect from real Thai cooking, not watered-down versions. The curries are rich and flavorful, the noodle dishes are excellent, and the spice levels are done right if you like authentic heat. Our waitress Nid was great, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, and the service is friendly and welcoming. I then had to fight to flag a waitress to ask for chili paste to get any heat in my entire dish. I like that there are veggies with it and the noodles have a good chew, but I've found zero dishes with anything near Thai spices here My partner got the pad thai, which was sickly sweet yet didn't taste like tamarind, fish sauce nor contain pickled veg. The wood ear in it was excellent, but I've never seen it in pad thai. The thai ice tea was good, maybe a bit heavy on sweetener. I don't understand the high ratings here, based pireh on food. Thai Chili has far better flavors, and is rated lower. The wait staff/food runners lacked politeness, and never checked if we enjoyed our food or needed anyone. Sans the person filling everyone's water, we were never checked on in any other capacity. The restaurant was a cacophony of noise and conversation, I had to lean across the booth to have any chance of hearing my companion. The noise level is overwhelming if you have sensory issues at all. The decor is pretty cool.

Thai Chili is a sleeper for sure, as it looks pretty Ho hum from the outside. Once inside, however, it's really homey. It's a little overcrowded with mismatched stuff, but it WORKS! Everything we had was top notch, with a couple of things being absolutely outstanding. Best of the night were the Curry Puffs, dipped in there insanely excellent peanut sauce (not too sweet and almost like a hint of chili oil) The Springs Rolls were a close second and my Mango Curry dish sparkled. Great Yellow Curry!! My son had a noodle dish that was also incredibly tasty. Have to say it may take me some time, but exploring their very extensive menu will be a pleasure. The portions were generous with plenty of leftovers to pack up in takeout boxes for enjoying for another day. I am not a big lamb fan, but this New Zealand lamb was tender and non-gamey. The owners did an outstanding job of timing the dishes and engaging with our group while also taking care of other diners including non event patrons getting getting take-out and inhouse menu dining. The miso black cod is always flaky and delicious. And the crab fried rice it's nestled on also never disappoints. The rich New Zealand stir fried lamb and shiitake mushrooms over pea shoots was a fabulous hearty dish on this chilly March evening. The braised short ribs were so tender no knife was needed, they flaked apart with the fork. And the e mein noodles were perfectly al dente. As for the satay, they accidentally brought out chicken satay at first, which our server immediately noticed and rectified the issue. When the tofu satay came out, it ended up being skewers of fried tofu puffs that you'd dip into their peanut sauce. While delicious, I was hoping there would be more creativity in layering or marinating the tofu with the sauce like the chicken satay would have been. It's been about 4 years since the last time, I tried the food here and since I was hosting about 10 people at my home, I wanted to serve something simple and cost effective. My goto for this is Chinese food. I ordered chicken chow mein and stir fried mixed vegetables. It came in two trays and enough from probably closer to 15 people. So portions were good but the total bill was between $120-$130 about what I've come to expect here in Reno. Let's just say, I've traveled to several countries in Asia and lived most of my life in Northern CA eating quite a bit of Chinese food. This doesn't make my an expert but it would be fair to say, I am quite familiar with what is considered mainstream traditional Chinese cooking. But let's get to the food, with the caveat that I realize that everyone's preferences can vary widely when it comes to food. So my opinion is based on what one would find in Hong Kong and San Francisco. The chicken chow mein had all the correct ingredients, long noodles that were slightly thicker than say spaghetti, had the correct amount of softness without being mushy. Chicken was presented in slices and appeared to be white meat, there was some white onions thrown in there for some texture and flavor. Normally when I order chow mein, it isn't served with a brown "gravy". Not that this dish was swimming in it, but think of spaghetti with tomato sauce. Replace the red with medium dark brown and you get the picture. Now my guests who are Reno locals, thought it was great and flavorful. I would agree with the flavor part but it was much too saucy for my tastes. Would I try Chin Chin again for noodles? I'm not sure but the owner did state, they can make dishes any way I like, so perhaps I'll order off menu next time. The stir fried mixed vegetables is where I was most disappointed. Let's start with the ingredients. All were sliced in 2-3 inch pieces, which included button mushrooms, zuchinni, bamboo shoots, brocolli, carrots, and onions. This dish could have passed for a savory vegetable stew. There was a lot of gravy, so much so, that it colored all the vegetables brown, except for the carrots. The sauce had a slight "twang" to it, almost vinegar or worchester-like. Not my thing, I could not taste the individual flavors of the vegetables because of how heavy the sauce was. The brocolli was over cooked where the flowerette parts were pale. I prefer my vegetables to be just cooked, almost snappy. I would not order this dish again. No comments on the restaurant itself as both times I tried it, was for take out. So bottomline, would I try Chin Chin again? Yes but I will be very specific on how I would like my order prepared. Maybe for their lunch special.
