Well, well, well... thanks to my son I took a chance on a place I have driven past a hundred times. And what a fantastic surprise!!! Thai Chili is a sleeper for sure, as it looks pretty Ho hum from the outside. Once inside, however, it's really homey. It's a little overcrowded with mismatched stuff, but it WORKS! I loved the ambiance for its non traditional, non sterile atmosphere. Now for the food! While maybe not 5 stars, it's a solid 4.5. Everything we had was top notch, with a couple of things being absolutely outstanding. Best of the night were the Curry Puffs, dipped in there insanely excellent peanut sauce (not too sweet and almost like a hint of chili oil) The Springs Rolls were a close second and my Mango Curry dish sparkled. Great Yellow Curry!! My son had a noodle dish that was also incredibly tasty. Have to say it may take me some time, but exploring their very extensive menu will be a pleasure. The chicken was super tough and chewy and the almost complete lack of basil (2 small pieces in the whole order) and other important ingredients left me feeling like l had the money stolen out of my wallet. The waitress should have been ashamed to even put that on the table. I asked for some more basil and she brought me a dish of sauce and garlic with a little basil underneath. I almost forgot to touch the subject of flavor or the lack there of , this was basically just spicy rice with a few mediocre ingredients. This is my 4th time having Thai Chili and it never disappoints! When you walk in, it just feels naturally comforting - totally Thai vibes. The service was amazing, friendly and quick. Now let's talk about food! When me and family orders, we usually pick a dish from each category (not everything of course) and do family style. Because this was a couple weeks ago, I remember ordering basil with eggplant choosing beef as my meat and it was so good. The other dish my husband had ordered that I remember loving more than my pick was the panang salmon, absolute perfection. The only thing that was a tid-bit downside when I had asked my husband and mother-in-law what they thought of their food was that one, the soup which I don't recall what it was but it was one of the tom yum soup, it was more on the sweeter side and their Thai drink and coffee was very light, you couldn't really get the depth of taste from it which I agreed on because I tasted it myself. We originally wanted moo dang or lotus Thai but everything was closed on Sundays and we were craving Thai so we gave this one a try. Their prices are at least $2-4 dollars more than the other places and they don't include rice. The pad Thai was so bland and tasteless, noodles were not that great. This is a favorite lunch spot for some co workers of mine and they brought me along one day to try it. It's a cozy and nicely decorated dining room, dark and quiet vibe. The service was very friendly as the server knew my co workers. I had tea, we shared some appetizers and I ordered the pad Thai. Really liked the dumplings with sweet potato, almost thought I was eating pumpkin. Probably my favorite part of the meal. This is such a quaint place! Had a craving for spring rolls before my performance at Good Luck McBeth theater. They were huge! And their peanut sauce is to die for! We went here on a Sunday after lunch. You know most of the Thai restaurants are closed on Sunday to rest and for religion reasons. It was a delight coming back here in years. It was quiet afternoon, there was only one waitress doing everything. Pretty impressive! We ordered a thail eggplant (beef) basil, Chicken curry, beef larb, sticky rice, tofu for the appetizer. Unfortunately, they are out of their roti that day and we all ordered Thai iced teas. My only complain was the plate was still a little greasy but that is fixable. Everything was delicious, I forgot about this place that they have the best curries I ever had. The larb is a great surprise, I'm glad my friend ordered it. The place is clean, the furniture has a cute touch of Thai Culture, the music is not too loud great to hear my friends conversations . The waitress is so sweet and efficient and attentive to details. It has been a hot minute since I have had Thai Chili but just as good as always! We came in for lunch and they sat us instantly and very quickly had our order. I've been to Thai Chili for lunch twice now and the lunch specials cannot be beat. For $13-$15 dollars, you get either a soup or salad of the day, an appetizer of the day, and an entree. In my opinion, it's the best lunch deal in town! I've tried the Drunken Noodles and Yellow Curry so far. Neither of them are going to blow you away, but the food is good and satisfies any Thai food cravings you have at a reasonable price. The first time I went, the server seemed confused when I mentioned a spice level. She wrote down the spice level I asked for but my dish was not spicy at all. The second time, I was asked about the spice level and there were additional red pepper flakes in my dish. Both times I went, there was only one server so service was a bit slow, but that is to be expected when there is only one server. Regardless, the server was very nice and very friendly. A small salad with lettuce, and cumber was very refreshing. The steamed rice was average, on the dry side and it appeared to me it was leftover from the day before. The red curry had a nice heat level. I probably would ask for it to be spicier if I return. Pad Thai was spot on although it was missing eggs. Drunken noodles were tasty, panang curry was perfect, garlic chicken was enjoyed by most and thai ice tea was ok. More milk than the usual sweetened condensed milk style. The portions were generous and the food quickly delivered. We were served an order of tofu fresh rolls that we didn't order and were charged for it; wrong all the way around. If you serve something to a table incorrectly, it was the restaurant's mistake. The young lady who delivers the food is not the friendliest. The woman who took our order and checked in us was warmer and friendlier. By the time we left all the tables were full. I've been meaning to try this little spot in the heart of Midtown for so long, we finally got the opportunity to stop in for an early dinner. We love Thai food and eat it fairly often, so I feel like I always order the same staple dishes, but in this case works out well for comparison sake to other Thai restaurants. Service was quick and friendly, our food all came out relatively quickly. We were there at 5 o'clock on Wednesday, so there was not a full house, but still nice to have everything delivered quickly to the table. The Thai iced tea were sweet and yummy, the red tea did not taste like it was freshly brewed, but they come in large glasses and were yummy anyway. Pad Thai was delicious and nice and fresh. I love that they sprinkle the peanut to one side and have the fresh crisp and cold bean sprouts on the other side. Even if you came during a busier time you would be able to tell that this did not sit under a heat lamp for a while by the crispiness of those sprouts. The Tom ka soup was good, but the broth did not have a ton of flavor. Also, they leave the Lemon grass and ginger in the broth once it is plated. Well both of these ingredients add a ton of amazing flavor, they are too tough to actually eat so you end up picking around them or fishing at all out of the big bowl. There are two kinds of mushrooms, two kinds of onion, and shrimp with the tail on. I loved the mushrooms, onion was a bit overkill, and I hate fishing around in soup to peel tails. Next, the spicy summer. This was my favorite dish hands-down. It was served with rice and had a delicious spicy green sauce and tons of veggies! Another dish that you can tell is very fresh because the veggies are not soggy, most of them still have a nice crispy bite to them. The spice level was perfect and the dish was delicious. The golden chicken is basically a Thai version of orange chicken. The pieces were cut small enough and fried in the orange sauce very well, so they were nice and crispy on the outside, not a thick breading like you would find with Chinese food. While a bit oily, this was also a delicious one that I would come back for. And of course, you cannot have Thai food without spring rolls. These ones were gigantic! They are stuffed with lots of crisp fresh veggies and two shrimp per roll. The peanut sauce is mixed with some red chili and served warm (my favorite way!) I hate writing negative feedback on reviews, so I will just say that while we did bring something to their attention, the way they responded is how I judge a restaurant. No restaurant is perfect, and mistakes happen, but the way you solve a problem says a lot about you and your business. The dish was replaced immediately and apologies were made. I appreciate the sincerity and quick action to remedy the situation. read more
