My husband and have eaten there for years and always enjoyed everything we ordered, however, when we ate there last week we noticed that the whole staff had changed, since we ate there prox. 1 month go, and the pineapple fried rice, with chicken & extra veggies, didn't taste the same, as was too oily and the broccoli was watery. We were met with a pleasant greeting to select our table preference and immediately served beverages. My wife let me go first and I selected the Mango Curry lunch. She ordered the same. It was exquisitely delicious. Creamy sauce texture with mango flavor with a hint of mint and pepper taste in the background, followed by a very satisfying pepper after taste on the palate. This place is a hidden gem. Decided to switch it up from our usual spot and this place was great! Started off with fresh spring rolls.. their peanut sauce is one of the best I've had! We ordered pot stickers, pad Thai, and crispy pineapple chicken. Everything tasted sssooo good. The chicken had the best flavor and the spiciness of the pad Thai was on point! The staff was really friendly-- they made sure we had everything we needed but not over bearing. Very minimal Thai food options in Reno/Sparks and Sawasdee is usually one of our go-tos. We got spring rolls with shrimp, pad prik khing, and pla goong. Food is tasty, service was great, but only downfall is that they raised their prices and the portion sizes have gotten smaller. The pla goong was supposed to have grilled prawns but was given a scoop of sliced shrimp instead. Spring rolls were fresh and the dipping sauce is great. This restaurant is close to my house so I frequent here pretty often. I've dived in before and I've also taken food home. I've never had a bad meal from here and the food is always top notch for Thai food in the area. They're Tom kah soup is absolutely great and would highly recommend. We grab takeout from Sawasdee Thai pretty regularly, usually for dinner, and it's become a full-on tradition before D&D night with friends. We've ordered it so many times before games that now we basically crave it every session. The spring rolls are always fresh and tasty, but the real star for me is the pineapple curry. I tried it once and now I can't bring myself to order anything else... it's that good. Friends have ordered other dishes and there is never any complaint. The Thai iced tea is also great, especially if you want something cold and creamy to go with your food. Orders are always ready right on time when we go to pick up, and the staff is friendly and efficient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's usually not too busy inside, and the space has a cozy, traditional feel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We haven't eaten in yet, but it seems like a great spot to dine if we ever felt like sitting down instead of rushing off. I've eaten Thai food enough to know balance matters, and tonight that balance just wasn't there. A few people in my group actually commented on the same thing: some Thai restaurants have gone way too sweet lately (Siam Lotus came up as an example), but this was the opposite problem. The food here tonight lacked sweetness almost entirely, which left the dishes tasting flat and muted instead of rounded and balanced. Thai food shouldn't be dessert-sweet, but it also shouldn't feel stripped of that essential sweet-salty-spicy harmony. Nothing was inedible, but it felt under-seasoned and missing depth. This review is back from 3/27/26. I was invited to an Asian (host from Laos) themed potluck and was asked to bring a dessert. I was clueless. I checked dessert reviews of Asian restaurants in the greater Reno/Sparks area for ideas and decided that I wanted to bring Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango. Sawasdee Thai had the best reviews for this so I went there the day before the pot luck to discuss my order. I was met by Jay who was informative and very welcoming. He introduced me to Bim in the kitchen (owner I believe) who was very helpful and pleasant. Since I needed to feed a group, she offered to prepare the desserts in a large aluminum serving tray and gave me a price break on the larger order. The next evening the dessert tray was ready for pick up on time. I could tell that Jay and Bim take pride in their work. Everyone at the potluck was happy with my dessert choice and most importantly, they said that it was among the best Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango that they've had. The quality and tenderness of the mango made the dessert in the eyes of many. It was the first time I had eaten it and I enjoyed the dessert. I look forward to returning to Sawasdee Thai for a full meal at their restaurant... with Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango for dessert of course. read more

I ordered chicken veggie pad thai at a 4 heat and an order of veggie spring rolls. The pad thai came in a card board container with a foil insert. I transferred to a salad bowl since I don't like eating off foil. The dish was not spicey/hot enough even though it was 4 out of 5. It tasted good, could have used more chicken but the veggies were crispy. The 2 egg rolls were not worth the $6.95 I paid. I was looking for something unusual so I decided to try Sawasdee. Like most Thai restaurants, they have a spice rating system to help unsuspecting customers avoid over-spicing. I asked for a 4/5 expecting some heat and was really underwhelmed. Maybe the waiter misheard me or maybe he was trying to help me out of a bad choice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The TL;DR is the food is great, the decor is typical Asian mom n' pop, and the service is attentive to your needs while leaving you alone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was in the Raley's shopping center when I decided to stop for a bite. Sawasdee's sign tempted me with the promise of spicy Thai curry, and who am I to refuse the call to adventure? It was my first time eating at Sawasdee and I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in. The Ambiance. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The colors were dark and earthy, with reds, dark browns, and tans filling the space. A few Thai portraits and floral paintings adorned the walls, with a few display cases and tables pushed to the side to hold random boxes of restaurant supplies (that's how you know it's a mom n' pop Asian restaurant). Light piano instrumentals played in the background, signaling this place was for quiet dinner conversation, not a night out with the boys.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Service. I was seated by my server who left me to peruse the menu until I was ready. I gave him the nod, he came over and took my order. That was more or less the entire service experience. Servers left you alone but were watchful for when you needed something. To be honest, that's how I prefer service, although there's something to be said for conversational servers who feel natural and genuine. The Food. I ordered a Thai Tea (in lieu of Thai beer which they did not have in stock), the Panang Curry with pork, and the Spicy Catfish. The Thai tea was very sweet, but very good. I ordered both entrees with level 5 heat (the hottest), but I was warned by my server it would not be especially hot for a fire-eater like me. Both dishes were served with sufficient amounts of jasmine rice and both tasted amazing. The curry was rich and creamy with a wide range of vegetables to accompany the thinly sliced pork. The veggie to meat ratio was well balanced, as was the curry to rice ratio. The catfish was absolutely delicious, with the fish being well sauced and very crispy along all the edges. The fish fell apart relatively easy under a fork, so I do recommend chopsticks when eating it. It also had a nice arrangement of veggies that all tasted excellent and provided nice textural contrast to the fish, but the fried basil was really standout; it was like eating crispy thin potato chips. True to the server's word, the heat wasn't anything special for people who like really hot food. At the end of it all, two entrees and a drink cost $49.50. You could see that they increased the price of nearly every dish on the menu, which I suppose is to be expected in 2025. That said, I think it's totally worth the price and I'm very much looking forward to trying everything else on Sawasdee's menu. read more

I tend to grab my orders to go but I'll stay occasionally because it's got such a warm ambiance. The food is great and they have vegan options. Just let them know ahead of time. Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. Next to the Raley's supermarket. Plenty of mall parking. Indoor table seating. Open 6 days a week from 11am to 8pm, closed Sundays. Service - The owner is such a hard worker, a one woman army. Answering phones, waiting on all the tables herself. Busing all the tables herself. Taking care of the phones and to-go orders, etc! This is my favorite Thai spot in town. I've never eaten in here, only takeout, but I always receive friendly and fast service. My go to dishes are pad Thai and yellow curry and they are both fantastic! The flavors are so good and well rounded, it's always a very filling and comforting meal. I appreciate the portion sizes, often times it's enough for me to spread across two meals. The only minor issue I've encountered here is that the spice level can be inconsistent. I prefer level 2, and usually that is perfect, but on occasion it is WAY too spicy, whereas other times it's not even a hint of spice. Aside from that, and the high prices--but what isn't expensive now, this is a nearly perfect spot and every time I come in it's a treat! read more

We have been recommended this place multiple times and wanted to try it for years. (We love Thai food) Last night we finally had the chance try and were severely disappointed. We ordered shrimp ragoons, red curry, pad Thai and spicy catfish. The shrimp ragoons were delicious. The red curry was some of the worst I have ever had. It was very watery and had almost no taste or color at all, just coconut milk. This dish is a Thai staple so we were surprised. The pad Thai was good, but too sweet for our liking. Mid at best. We were happy to see spicy catfish on the menu because not many Reno restaurants have it, but it wasn't available. After the other dishes came out we were happy another didn't come. Staple Thai options with attentive service. I love fried eggplant and other Thai restaurants have taken it off their menu so was delighted to see them still have it. Ordered that as an appetizer with curry as my meal and both were delicious. They have increased their prices recently along with every restaurant in town but each menu just has handwritten pen writing over it and it was really difficult to read. I'm sure reprinting menus is costly but it makes the menu hard to understand. read more

I am giving a 3 star rating because I thought the food was ok and the service was sub par. My first impression was that the tables, furniture, and decor were nothing special and a little run down. Our food took a long time even though there were only a total of 4 customers besides us during dinner hours. Our food did not all come out together, and one of the dishes came out 5-10 minutes later. I don't know if they had some staffing issues that night, but I would have thought they would be more on top of things with only 3 parties in the restaurant. The food itself was good, but not as good as some other thai restaurants in town imo. If you like your Thai food spicy then you should probably order it at least one star higher than you think. Even the peanut sauce was epic after the standard Sriratch injection I do. Sweet and spice do things nice. The Pad Kee Mao (drunken wide noodles) with chicken was incredible at a two of five spice level. Lots of tender meat and veggies. Staff was gracious and service was great. They also have gluten free options if you have a friend with dietary restrictions. The sweet rice with black bean dessert was also a new sensation. Gone in 60 seconds, complex flavors and just enough sweet without going overboard. This is another restaurant I should have explored long ago. Everything was excellent!!! I had the Pad Prik Khing Tofu lunch special at a level 3 (out of five) spice. The price is great for the amount of food you get. This tofu is bangin. Perfectly crisp, well seasoned, cubes of joy. I might go with a level 4 on the heat next time but I thought the aromatics were stellar and at a 3 you did get a sense of warmth, but by no means spicy. The green beans and carrots were also cooked nicely. The lunch special also comes with a side salad and a curry puff, yum! A great spot for a well priced working lunch! This is my husband's favorite Thai restaurant and it's closer to the house than mine so we come here fairly frequently. The inside is large with plenty of seating, looks very well kept and clean. They have a wide menu with lots of options. I generally go with their curry or pad thai, both very good. Wash it all down with their Thai tea (I know I sound basic :)). The staff are always very nice and usually very quick to respond. They do get busy with to go orders so sometimes it's a longer wait for the food. read more
