I walked in to the super clean and welcoming environment. We were instantly greeted and seated at a comfy booth. (There were tables and booths here.) the service was very god as the waitress was super attentive and even gave great suggestions as we asked what some of their popular dishes were. One of the owners even chatted with us for a moment and that was nice to see the face behind the beautiful establishment. We got a little rundown on how they make their super flavorful Vietnamese coffee! It's all in the beans for sure which she said they get directly from Vietnam! I wished they sold the beans there! We tried the garlic shrimp noodles and oxtail pho. Both were so delish! We couldn't even finish them so we asked for them to go and the service was simply great! The oxtail pho came with 5 or 6 "meaty" oxtails and the soup was so good! The garlic shrimp noodles were also so flavorful and the shrimp was huge and plentiful. I wish I tried more dishes but I simply couldn't as I was so full! I hope people visit this establishment as there is great parking, good service, and fresh and tasty food (and drinks)! I did see the bar menu and they have some fun looking tasty drinks so I'd love to try that as well! I highly recommend trying this establishment! I'll be headed back really soon! We had kept seeing the sign for Silk and finally gave it a try. The restaurant was bigger than expected, very clean and presentable. Everyone was very friendly and provided excellent service. The old fashioned was great, I was a bit worried when it came out much lighter in appearance than expected but the flavor was perfect. The calamari is different from most in the area, it has an excellent cook on it and was very tender. The seasoning was delicate. I would definitely get theses again. Silk is a new restaurant in town, and I'm really hoping it stays around. I can see myself becoming a regular. We've had the pleasure of dining here a few times, but each visit has been wonderful. From the moment we walked in, the staff greeted us warmly. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The restaurant is spotless and doesn't have any unpleasant odors. The food is fresh, flavorful, and served hot. Also, priced very fairly. The staff is attentive, always ready to answer any questions a person might have about the dishes. We had a bahn mi (includes a bowl of broth- choose BEEF) and garlic noodles with shrimp. The app was the veggie Vietnamese wraps with various root veggies and shrooms; delicious! Grand opening/soft opening day at Silk cafe and bar. We've been watching this newer locally owned Vietnamese restaurant and anticipated it's opening. We were excited to come in today for our lunch date. All staff was friendly and welcoming upon arrival. Simple menu, but it offers something for everyone and is vegetarian friendly. If it wasn't Summer warm today I would have ordered their beef short rib pho, but I know what I'm going to have next time. We started off with the popcorn chicken, a jasmine tea, taro milk tea with fresh tapioca pearls. We ordered the popcorn chicken medium heat and our palates appreciated what the basil brought to the dish. The chicken was not dry nor was it overcooked. I would definitely order this again. We ordered fried chicken rice plate and a grilled pork and shrimp vermicelli bowl for entrées. The fried chicken was cooked to perfection! The crunchy skin and perfectly seasoned, I could have had that by itself. (Their food was that good that I didn't notice my photos were blurry). I enjoyed the pickled vegetables and the fish sauce served on the side. I stole a bite of the hubb's vermicelli bowl; it was deliciously refreshing. This place has the best spring rolls I've had in a long time. I would go back just for them, and I'm rarely over in the area. The wrapper was fresh and not at all dried out, the shrimp was perfectly cooked and very fresh, the veggies where crispy, and you guessed it... fresh. The peanut sauce was a delightful addition to every bite, but they also stood so well on their own I didn't need that much. The Pho was also delightful, my only complaint was that I like a more aromatic broth, but the noodles and meat were both excellent (the hunt for my perfect pho in Reno continues). We ordered the Beef Ribs Pho and the Oxtails Pho. Both of them were excellent! The soup had a refined flavor, and the beef was tender and plentiful. I forgot to take a picture, but the Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls was also amazing. This is definitely the best Pho Restaurant I've ever had in Reno. Must try Hidden Gem in East Sparks!!!! I stumbled upon Silk Cafe and Bar in Sparks off Prater way and Sparks Blvd in the Hacienda Plaza Shopping Center behind Reno Combat Academy and several doors down from Flowing Tide. It's a small restaurant in the back corner of the Hacienda Plaza that, unfortunately, is often missed because of street visibility. I only spotted it because I drove in on the backside through the neighborhood because of all the construction. The inside is small but open with a partially open kitchen behind the counter. It's very clean, has simple decor and on the quiet side. They have a full bar, Boba drinks, and Vietnamese coffee. cocktails are a bit pricey but the beers are very reasonable at $6. The service is excellent, super friendly and extremely attentive. This is not common with Vietnamese restaurants and so welcomed. Our server was engaging, funny and checked on us more than ANY OTHER Vietnamese restaurant in Reno/Sparks and trust me, we go often and have tried them all. Kudos to them for breaking the below average service habit by offering an exceptional service and exceptionally higher quality of food. Silk team, please do not stop what you're doing because it's working . We ordered spring rolls as an appetizer, which we gobbled up so fast and forgot to take pics. Initially, I was unsure because I could tell it looked a little different. After one bite, I figured out the twist was sweet green onion oil which is a traditional Vietnamese accoutrement but not common in a Spring Roll. This was such a pleasant surprise, not overpowering, just elevated but still very fresh tasting. The julienned cucumbers were a nice touch that made each bite balanced. The peanut dipping sauce was a little watery but still decent; we added sriracha for a spicy kick. My husband ordered popcorn chicken, medium spice and it was good just nothing special but cooked perfectly. The outside was very crispy with creeping spice and the chicken inside was super tender and moist ( you are able to choose your spice level). It's served with sweet Thai chili dipping sauce and crispy basil leaves and I think they missed an opportunity to get creative with a good house-made sauce that could kick this up a level or two. Definitely not something we would normally order but my husband randomly wanted to try it. For our entrees, my husband got chicken fried rice Again, this is unusual pick for him but it was Father's day so I didn't harass him, lol. The fried rice didn't look like it had much flavor when it came out but looks are deceiving! It was very flavorful and did not need any soy sauce to dress it up. Chicken was juicy and seasoned well, even though it didn't look like it. We were indifferent to fresh veggies on top, could definitely do without but wasn't bad either, just not expected. This was a pricy for the portion but fantastic flavor and had a pleasant, slightly crispy texture and executed very well. I ordered the Vietnamese Beef stew with baguette. Again, visually different looking from traditional home style versions, with a lighter color and added veggies that are not usually in this dish but it was Soooo yummy! The beef and tendons were slow cooked and melt in your mouth tender. I loved the addition of daikon and tomatoes in the broth . This dish felt elevated, beefy but light and fresh at the same time and was more like a broth with less ofa heavy stew texture. Chef's kiss with the warm crusty baguette to dip; I prefer this option over rice or noodles as it's makes this feel less heavy. 10/10 for me and I'm very picky with my Vietnamese comfort food. My daughter ordered the grilled pork rice plate and this was the most traditional item we ordered. It was excellent and exactly what you would expect. Thin grilled to perfection pork with the sweet and savory umami flavor, fresh white rice, tangy Nuoc Mam "sweet & sour fish sauce" and a pickled and fresh vegetable assortment. 10/10/10!! This restaurant far exceeded our expectations! There is definitely an elevated take and Asian fusion happening here and I'm not mad about it as long as the flavor and quality delivers. I will 1000% be back to try more menu items. Many Sparks residents complain about our lack of good restaurant options and having to travel to south Reno and Midtown but this makes me hopeful that we will get more good places like this. I didn't get peanuts at all. The Pad Thai was sweet. I asked for medium spice and it was bland. The Popcorn Chicken was blah - and I asked for medium spice again. Everyone looks for the rich and heavy handed heat and seasoning but Vietnamese food for me has always been clean, fresh, and absolutely flavorful. I tasted the fish sauce on the chicken wings without it overpowering the other flavors. Chicken skin was crisp, not hard, and it was not drenched in sauce. Perfect. Calamari strips really wowed me. If flavor had a headquarters in Sparks, it might just be hiding inside Silk. I'll say it straight: this is the most delicious Vietnamese food I've had in Sparks, and it's making a very convincing argument for being top-tier in the greater Reno area too. Vietnamese cuisine already sits at the top of my personal food pyramid, and Silk somehow climbs even higher. We kicked things off with the Fresh Shrimp Spring Rolls, and right out of the gate, BOOM, these things set the tone. The veggie mix is dialed in perfectly, and the dipping sauce? It's like your favorite version went off on vacation and came back with better stories. Familiar flavors, but layered with something extra you didn't know you needed. Then came the Pan-Fried Pot Stickers. These tasted like they were crafted in-house with actual care, not pulled from a freezer somewhere. I'm no dumpling detective, but they felt unique, in a "where have you been all my life?" kind of way. The Popcorn Chicken deserves its own spotlight. Light, crispy, and paired with fried basil that somehow elevates the whole experience. Add the spicy seasoning and suddenly you're in flavor overdrive. Crunchy, aromatic, just plain fun to eat. For the main event, I went with the Beef Stew with rice noodles. Imagine pho's heartier, slightly thicker cousin who still knows how to keep things balanced. The beef was tender, the veggies held their ground, tender, but not overcooked. The whole bowl just worked. Throw in the fresh basil, a squeeze of lemon, and some jalapeños, and it brightens up like a Truckee Meadows sunrise after a storm. My wife and daughter both went with the Rice Plate and chose the grilled pork. Easily some of the best I've had. Personally, I'd probably lean toward the Grilled Meat Vermicelli (Bún) next time. That's just my lane, but there's no wrong turn here. Even the marinated veggies, which are often just plate decoration elsewhere, were actually worth eating. Imagine that. They've also got an updated takeout menu with even more options than what's floating around online, so there's still a whole lineup left to explore. Bottom line: go to Silk. Be adventurous. Order something you wouldn't normally pick. Their subtle twists on classic dishes make you want to come back and try everything on the menu like it's a personal quest. We drove through town on vacay and loved this place so much after eating the first time we stopped by again on the way home. The portions are good and food was delish. We didn't take pics of everything but loved all the things we tried. The popcorn chicken was good, juicy and crispy. We got it mild and it was good spice for the adults but a bit much for the kiddos. The rice plate with fried chicken was fantastic and both kids loved it. The owner is super nice and even asked for feedback about our visit. Service was great and we never had to wait for water refills. Ambiance is nice with everything being clean and well maintained. 100% would stop here again if we're going through town in the future. My mom and the mango popping boba with the mango tea and also was a fan. I'd go back just for the delicious tea. Food: Yummy. The springs rolls were delicious and fresh. Big fan. It was empty when we walked in (it's a shame because it was so good). The menu is not huge but has a good variety of choices. The waitress was so nice and answered all of our questions. We got the fried dumplings with the medium heat option. I think the heat was from a red powder that was on top. They were crispy and had good flavor. I ordered the popcorn chicken appetizer as my main meal. The popcorn chicken was crispy and had good flavor. I asked for the mild heat option which was again the red powder on top. My husband ordered a noodle dish with steak. He said it was the most tender steak he has ever had. He really loved the meal. I also got fried rice it had a unique flavor. Coming from San Jose, where there's no shortage of great Vietnamese restaurants, this place really impressed us. Honestly, it reminded us of home, if not better. Upon entering, we were immediately met by our server who directed us to a table. The ambience is open, modern with an Asian feel. The restaurant is extremely clean with booths on either wall and two or four person tables throughout the middle area. We decided to order the Thai coffee and a Tiger milk tea along with our appetizers, the green papaya salad, and pan fried potstickers. Our food came quickly, the salad was extremely fresh, full of flavor and very good, the potstickers were also full of flavor and very good. Our entrées arrive shortly thereafter, the Shaken Beef which is made with filet mignon was perfectly prepared, the steak was medium-rare, the vegetables were crisp, the flavor was amazing. The chicken Pad Thai was also prepared perfectly, the chicken was tender and full of flavor, she said it was one of the best she has ever eaten. We went for the beef phở (phở bò), Vietnamese beef stew (bò kho), and vegetarian phở (phở chay). The beef phở was a mix of hits and misses. The broth had a nice color but leaned salty. The rare steak was thin, tender, and on point, but the meatballs were oversized and oddly shaped, and the brisket was tough. The egg noodle option felt unnecessary it did not add anything and pulled the dish away from authenticity. The bò kho was heavier than expected. Traditional beef stew is usually lighter and aromatic, but this version was thick and fatty. Potatoes were undercooked, though carrots were fine. The beef itself was tender but lean, likely chuck instead of shank, so it missed that rich, melt in your mouth texture. The vegetarian phở also arrived with egg noodles for some reason. The broth was fine, but some toppings felt out of place. Celery in particular stood out as odd, and the herbs were sparse and not particularly fresh, like they had been prepped in advance. Service had a few hiccups. Ordering in Vietnamese caused minor miscommunications, and the in restaurant menu differs from what is online. The décor is clean, modern, and recently updated, but nothing extraordinary. Even a slightly crooked wall painting hints at small oversights. One modern twist that might bother purists is the lack of self serve sriracha, hoisin, and chili sauce. You get them on the side, but you cannot control the amount yourself. The team clearly wants to bring a contemporary Vietnamese experience rather than a straight up replication. Silk shows promise. There are highlights, like the rare steak in the beef phở, but inconsistencies in broth, meat, noodles, and garnishes mean I would not rush back regularly. Food was amazing , the pho with the huge beef ribs was top tier, the korean short ribs was also great, shrimp fried rice also bomb. The servers were very attentive and were filling our drinks and water right away. The place was clean and had nice decor. The chef owner came out to speak to us too, very nice man.
