We've tried many "Hawaiian BBQ" , most from the Bay Area. When we moved here, we tried about half a dozen and so glad we discovered Loco Ono! Is it as good as the other ones? I would enthusiastically say, YES! Why? The food of course! The chicken curry is my favorite there, but the mochiko chicken is a close second if I want so extra heat. The Poki is good but all sushi fish here in Reno is trucked in, so regardless of where you get raw fish, it's pretty much the same IMO. The selection of cooked dishes are great and if you can, don't miss the fish tacos but don't take them to go, the tortilla will be mushy if you wait. I recently tried the poke at loco ono. I enjoyed how fresh the ingredients are. The rice was really delicious. I usually get salmon and shrimp only in my bowl. I mixed it with spicy mayo and miso sauce . I liked it. The only thing is I wished it had corn as a topping Its one of my favorites to put in it. But other than that they had varies of toppings to put on it and shakers. I also was hopping to find the ice cream the south Virginia location has to top it off. But unfortunately they didn't have the freezer on. The parking is small in front but they are in a shopping area where u can find parking close by if they for any reasonyou don't find something out in front. The customer service was great she was very helpful. Overall will get it again . Even their hot foods are good like the garlic chicken, garlic shrimp, and even the musubi. I tried the S. Virginia St. location before and I am trying this Sparks location this time. The quality of food is as good as another location. I ordered the mochiko chicken with brown rice, a mixed plate with Kalbi, garlic chicken and garlic rice, 1/2 lb of loco ono ahi and 1/2 lb of Cali style salmon poke. The food are all superb with great portion. Mochiko chicken is crispy outside and tender inside and garlic chicken has flavorful garlicky coating. But I was given the brown rice instead of the garlic rice for the mixed plate that I originally ordered with extra $1.5 dollars. So I am a bit disappointed of it. Of course poke here can't be compared to the one in Hawaii but at least it satisfies my craving for poke once a while. Service is prompt and friendly. Came here for lunch with my friend. We were craving Hawaiian food. The service was slow during lunch time. They are in the middle of changing the menu so they were out of a few things. I got the mochiko chicken. It was very flavorful. My friend got a poke bowl. The mango did not look good in her bowl, it was brown in some spots and super mushy. I'd like to try think we came on an off day. I'll give them another try in about a month to see the new menu. read more

Great local style restaurant. Its nice to see Hawaiian island style food in Reno/Sparks. Hits they spot when you craving some poke or island style grinds. Love the chicken katsu here. Good portion. Nice to be able to get garlic rice for a small upcharge. But not great that you have to pay extra for mac salad. Normally, it comes standard. But it's all good. Service was friendly. Loco One is a great quick little lunch meal. Chicken is always super crispy on the outside and super tender and juice on the inside. My go to is the Mochiko Chicken, it's the bees knees.... Came in for lunch and I asked for the most popular item on the menu and it turned out to mochiko chicken and garlic shrimp. The chicken was fried to perfection with it being crispy golden on the outside while tender and juicy on the inside. The sauce on it was deliciously addicting. The shrimps for the garlic shrimp were a lot bigger than I expected. Very crispy but I wasn't a fan of it compared to the chicken. All food comes with macaroni salad. The service was friendly. To be fair, we usually just order the Mochiko Chicken for take out, so I can't speak to the rest of the menu. The dining area is usually clean, but space is limited (half a dozen tables). We usually only deal with the one person, up front. Each time the person that we have dealt with has been friendly and efficient in taking and expediting our order to completion. The pasta salad that comes with the order is pretty tasty, but I am not an expert in pasta salad, so take it how you will. There are two scoops of white rice included. I would like a brown rice option, but one is not on their menu. The chicken itself is breaded and tends to be juicy. The toppings, sauce, and etc on the chicken give it a very nice flavor combination. The portions are pretty big. My wife and I discovered the location in midtown first, because it was adjacent to another place we like. Once we found the Sparks location was on the way home from work, we try to make it a weekly stop. Very impressed with the seafood, always fresh (Sierra Gold?). Their other ingredients also and great sauces. I've never felt the need to order the "large", since the medium is always a good meal. It reminds me of some places on Kauai. The staff are very friendly and will give you a sample if you haven't tried something yet (mango I wasn't sure of, but went nicely). They also have a great selection of drinks. The service was order at the counter. The server was friendly and did her best to be helpful to the customers. The problem was the food--no real problems. My partner and I dropped by Loco Ono for our final meal together since it was an easy grab-and-go poke and their pricing was fair. For $13, I was able to get a delicious tofu plant-based poke bowl with so many fixings. They offer all the usual toppings from edamame to seaweed salad, and all different kinds of sauces to amp up your bowl. I appreciated being able to select brown rice and mixed greens as my base for no additional charge. The regular size bowl was a large portion and was perfect for 1.5 meals, but of course I ended up eating it all at once. Our server was also super friendly and helpful. The moment I told her that everything would need to be vegan, she made sure to read out which sauces were vegan friendly without me asking, and even loaded up my bowl with so many veg toppings that it was bursting. This place blew me away. I visited for the first time and tried the garlic chicken, spam musubi, and created a poke bowl. All of it was fantastic but the garlic chicken was the star. It was incredibly juicy and flavorful and wasn't overly fried. The poke bowl was one of the best I've ever had, with fresh tasting ingredients. Highly recommend this place. We always come here when in Reno. A very casual Hawaiian poke place with counter service and find a table Type of place. I opted for a large poke bowl. It was huge! I got mostly everything on it. I got half salad and half wonton chips. There was so much that I took half and had it for breakfast a couple of days after. The wonton chips were still crispy. I just crunched some over the top of my poke bowl and drizzled some soy sauce. It was yummy! I hubby opted for the mixed plate at $17. He got chicken kaarage and curry chicken katsu. There was so much food. Everything was crispy and the curry sauce was excellent. I just wasn't that impressed with the Mac salad. Maybe need more Mayo and shredded carrots. First stop into loco Ono. The signage is discreet, so it never stands out when driving past and can easily be missed. The interrior was OK, wasn't the cleanest or best presentation, but not the worst either. We dined in, and I was not a fan of the chairs. They are a heavy-duty plastic chair that was cold to sit on the entire time we were there. They also don't slide on that floor, so it seemed awkward. If there was one thing I'd wish was changed, it'd be the chairs. People there were nice and friendly. We ordered lunch plates.... fried chicken and garlic shrimp. The fried chicken is dosed in a sushi roll like sauce but maintains its crunch. The shrimp were huge and came out hot. Both dishes came with 2 scoops of rice and some mac salad. The rice on the garlic shrimp also had garlic on top. Both dishes were solid, and they didn't skimp on the portions. If this review was just on food alone, I'd say 4/5 They also received a ton of traffic for poke while we were there. So I'll definitely swing by to try that as well. read more

The front of the house guy is very happy, welcoming, totally embodying the Hawaiian spirit. The food was awesome as well! Normally my wife NEEDS her 30 servings of fruits/veggies a day. So when I asked if I could substitute the Mac Salad for mixed greens instead, he smiled and said "Of course!" We were both expecting a small container of salad, similar to the small tub of mac. Instead, we were treated to an entire bed of greens, on which her garlic chicken sat on top! Now THAT is awesome service! The garlic chicken itself was crispy and juicy. Very flavorful. She liked it very much. I had the Chicken Katsu Curry, which came with BOTH the curry and the katsu sauces, all in separate containers. I love that because then the katsu won't be soggy. I could dip the super-crunchy katsu into the curry. The curry tastes great. Not spicy, a little sweet, a little tangy... and chunky. Not sure what the chunks were, but it made it taste good. Honestly, the katsu sauce wasn't needed at all. The only nitpick is the macaroni salad. Not that it doesn't taste good, but actually I prefer the mac salad from Ono's... call me a mainlander, I guess...hehe. Just for the excellent service, I would give this place 4 stars, but the tasty food on top firmly plants it in the 5 star category. Loco Ono, previously Poke King, is usually my go-to for my poke fix. I frequent it more often during the warmer months, and when it cools down, you'll catch me on my lunch, warming up with a plate lunch and my lunch date if hubbs and I are able to grab a bite together. Service is always great, and the restaurant is always clean. I can even say that about their restroom. Hubby brought me a Poke Bowl with 3 meats today for an early dinner 7/01/23. Never disappoints for when I'm craving something savory for lunch. My favorites are the mochiko fried chicken and teri beef. So juicy and flavorful. Staff is very friendly and the seating inside is good for a meal by yourself or with a friend. I can't speak for their poke bowls, but I'm sure they are also delicious!
